    H1Z1 has some cool modes that give it some extra oomph, but the field of battle royales already has some excellent choices. H1Z1 has a solid foundation of scavenging, shooting, and surviving, but it needs a little more vim and vigor to really compete in the battle royale free-for-all.

    H1Z1 may well have been inspired by the original version of PUBG, and it shows, but in Auto Royale it provides one of the most fun battle royale modes out there.

    H1Z1 checks all of the boxes needed to be a competent battle royale game, but in its main mode it lacks a distinctive sense of character. Without the realistic depth and modular weaponry of PUBG or the wacky base-building antics of Fortnite, its streamlined design rushes toward straightforward, fast-paced action instead and ends up being dull as often as it is exciting. The more interesting thing about H1Z1 is its innovative Auto Royale mode, which translates battle royale mechanics to vehicular combat in a way we haven’t seen done better elsewhere.

    With the advent of its final release, H1Z1 demonstrates a level of thoughtfulness in its design that reflects how closely its developers have listened to players. Whether it’s enough to draw those crowds back to Daybreak and the progenitor of battle royale games is a different story, but H1Z1 deserves a lot of credit for the strides it’s taken towards polishing an inherently rough and ready genre.

    This is a good way to get into battle royale games. It's fun, fast-paced and accessible, and enjoyable in short sessions.

    H1Z1 might not have the personality, nor the same production level of as some of its competitors, the game still balances arcade and simulation well to feature all the tension required in the genre.

    H1Z1 may have been the king of the battle royale market back in its days of inception, but with Battlegrounds and Fortnite both evolving the genre in distinctive ways, it no longer feels as relevant. For H1Z1 to regain its audience, it needs to take more creative risks as demonstrated by Auto Royale.

    H1Z1 predicates itself on eliminating the more random factors seen in other battle royale games, and it remains a competent execution of the genre. The game has its intense moments and exhilarating firefights; the thrill of besting 100+ players is very much present. However, the incoherent gameplay elements overshadow the better moments, and the lack of variety in both map design and weapon selection makes H1Z1 lose its appeal rather quick, especially in the genre it spearheaded.

    The game is very fun and can be played alone or in a team of 2 or 5 members. The goal is to survive until the end. After certain time intervals the map is made smaller and wrapped with lethal gas. All over the map are for example houses and campsites you can loot.

    Pro:
    - There are enough players so it will be exciting.
    - Animations and player controls work fine and smooth.
    - The map is well designed and provides almost everywhere loot places. Even if you end up somewhere away from cities you can find good equipment.

    Cons:
    - There are not enough weapons. Every round you try to loot an AR or AK and a shotgun. There is no greater selection.
    - The rewards are not valuable and worth barely. The most valuable thing you win at the first places are two different bags. These bags contain 1 of only 5 skins. After a few conquer you unlocked everything.
    - While playing you get randomly crates which can be opened by a key. But these keys are only available in H1Z1 Store and costs around 2.50 Euros.

    Conclusion: Its really a funny game with normal graphics. If you are looking for fun alone or with friends, this game is perfect for in between. But if you're looking for a game where you want to achieve something (like a level), you are definitely wrong. I'm wondering what next updates would bring, because this game is still expandable.    … Full Review »

    H1Z1 is for me the father of the Battle Royale, but unfortunately the game has lost its way in so many ways.

    A game that I bought and played in early access but, when the final product came, it became part free, is something that obviously annoyed me, and the feeling is the same throughout the community.
    Of course the game split into two, H1Z1 free, PVP Battle Royal only, and Just Survive was cancelled and the servers were closed past October.

    I cannot in good faith recommend the game because I do not feel valued as a player who blindly invested in early access and had no real reward. But I cannot recommend it either because of the game itself. There are already much better alternatives in the battle royale genre, and this was a "father" that never understand how to adapt.

    Anyway it is free and for anyone who has the opportunity and willingness to test, go for it. The servers are not always full but the experience is acceptable.    … Full Review »
