"Driven to Glory", the game's four hour campaign mode, is a lifeless and uninspired affair. The plot is no more detailed than a Saturday morning cartoon, in which you drive for a backmarker team that suddenly has the season of a lifetime! Yawn. The characters are one-dimensional and show no emotion, which results in a really grating experience as each FMV sequence has the intense emotional resonance of a Star Wars jedi council scene. The story itself also sometimes doesn't make sense - you're randomly told the rival team are "impossible to catch" and cheating, despite you winning every race up to that point. The world isn't fleshed out, you're never even introduced to the other teams beyond the main rival, and the forced diversity is just... weird. It's strange seeing an abundance of Chinese AI drivers in the game's equivalent to the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

For the amount of money, time, and other resources they put into creating this story (if this was filmed during Covid - imagine the logistics), what they came up with could be eclipsed by middle school children told to write a racing story as a homework assignment.

And it's a shame, because the underlying game is pretty good as a generic realistic arcade racer. The AI are tough but fair - a rarity in all types of racing games. Hell, they even have random events such as accidents or engine explosions which is really cool in longer races. There's a ton of cars & tracks to pick from - albeit most are asset flips from other Codies/SMS games - and the race creator UI is extremely user-friendly and probably the best I've ever used in a racing game.

But they REALLY want you to care about the story. It dominates the box, the menus, and the characters continue to appear in races outside of "Driven to Glory." And I just can't. Stick with Grid 2019.

Boring game with beautiful graphics. Nothing new compared to previous games. Story? What story? :) Great to play when there's nothing else to play.

    - terrible/grindy career with DLC to speed it up
    - driving model while not as drifty as on older games, it's also very feel-less, no feedback whatsoever, very average and stiff
    - some unlucky people won't be able to finish career due to late stage bug

    Bottom Line:
"Meeehh" - fun for an hour at a time, mentioned cons really get in the way. Replay Grid/Grid 2/Grid Autosport - you'll have more fun

Gameplay-wise: It is slightly better than previous entries in the series. There are more cars and the gameplay doesn't feel that the game wants to force you to drift in every single turn. It still happens, though, but now even with 'grippier' cars.

The story mode: it just doesn't make sense at all. You are from an upcoming team and, despite winning every single race, the story goes: "Oh look, he still has to prove himself!" or "Oh, they didn't win a race yet", or later on where there is a team cheating and the story says they're "uncatchable" despite you still... winning every race. It's even worse later on when you're the only driver on the team and, winning, the story goes "look how great the effort he's been making but it isn't enough". wth?

I'd say the story mode is an "entry point" for most people and it also has a lack of tracks being shown (the game had the same Grid-made tracks 2 times, and some tracks in-game aren't present in the campaign), just making the game feel shallow overall.

The AI isn't hard at all. Played the game at max difficulty and, again, won every single campaign race.

The menus are ugly, the teammate system isn't properly shown (along with stuff like the nemesis ones), and I believe there are some upgrades you can make but I didn't do any and they didn't matter in the end.

It looks good, but it is shallow.

    Great graphics.
    Nice with a story mode.
Great atmosphere Runs great on PC Feels super arcade to me. Not at all like a simcade as in example Forza Horizon Whats up with the jerky car? Shifting gear and the car jerks forward. Feels bad,and looks horrible. Very weird graphic animation. Very easy, even on high difficulty levels. Too many assists on by default. Storymode is a bit dull

I kinda lost all hope about Codemasters after the EA buyout, even so I wanted to give this game a chance.

I went in with 0 assists (except ABS, no hate) on the highest difficulty, with a controller. The story was promising at first but... afterwards it just feels like half of the cutscenes were cut from the game. Driver 22 (you) is only seen... twice, in the first and last cutscenes of

I went in with 0 assists (except ABS, no hate) on the highest difficulty, with a controller. The story was promising at first but... afterwards it just feels like half of the cutscenes were cut from the game. Driver 22 (you) is only seen... twice, in the first and last cutscenes of the story. Really? They could've included them in more places, I felt like a ghost during the entire game. Story is kinda lackluster anyway, evil rival team with evil rival guy. Everything keeps happening so out of context, like there is a big race, then afterwards there is a cutscene where a big accident happens and my teammate LOSES HER LEGS. When did that happen? She came right after me in 4th place, hello? There are also numerous bugs, at a time attack race I kept getting pushed back to 10th place even thought i was in 1st at the finish, turns out you have to stop before the finish line and wait for the AI to actually finish, or the game will generate so unrealistic times for them that you'll just lose the race instantly.
And oh boy the AI. The AI is just plain ruthless, they don't mess around. I had races where I had to retry like 15 times as I kept constantly being destroyed in turns by PIT manuevers and T-bones. The AI meanwhile goes on rails so good luck knocking them out.
For the final race, it took 10 mins of my life but I came in first... then I failed the objective of being 1st. I have no idea how it happened, I retried it but I was furious, came in first again and won. No idea.
Controls are kinda good for a realistic arcade, but some cars snap-oversteer like crazy, and some cars have insane amounts of grip. Dodge challenger in the rain, flat out throttle, barely slides. Koenigsegg on brands hatch, welp goodbye in the first turn you'll fly out on the slightest tap of the throttle.
And GOD the 4x4 truck races (ON TARMAC FOR SOME REASON) made me want to beat my head into the wall, the body roll on them is so great that you can flip over in turns very easily.
The game also runs pretty **** there is no DLSS or RTX either, and the game doesn't even look that good.
Overall a pretty forgettable experience for me, thankfully it was cheap with the game pass, I wouldn't ever paid full price for this.

    Pros:
    + a nice car list
    + story is kinda good
+ they finally fixed the Career Mode progress reset bug

    Cons:
    - still doesn't give me the nostalgia of the original one
    - you can't have a different team-mate
    - same kind of customization as GRID 2019

Short summary: Feels like GRID 2019 but better

I don't like racing games that have the pit closed.
I don't like racing games that when you play from inside the car,the driver's hand does not use the paddle shiffter on the steering wheel.
Affff and the story is ridiculous.

Grid Legends achieves a great deal at nailing down the fundamentals of a modern racer, but not much else. While the roster of cars is fine, the upgrade system and process of obtaining new vehicles leaves something to be desired. Codemasters provides handling of most vehicles on the track and stable performance and visuals on PC to make up for the awkward feeling story mode and lacklustre AI in offline modes. In the end, Grid Legends doesn't quite match up to the competition but may be worth a look as a more straightforward title.

GRID Legends is a good game that can keep entertaining fans of arcade circuit races for a decent number of hours. Although the story mode is not very successful.

There are times when I want to play a racing game that requires a wheel and incredibly nuanced changes to my car's setup. GRID Legends provides a counterpoint to that style, and it's a ball of fun that never feels like it loses focus on being a competitive racing game. It's a racing game that isn't afraid to become a spectacle, while at the same time managing to take itself seriously in the areas that matter. The story mode is the flashiest, but the game remains just as compelling in any other mode. GRID Legends is a great excuse to have some automotive fun.
