LEVEL (Czech Republic)Jan 4, 2021Godfall is an astonishing next-gen tech demo. Which is, honestly, the only positive trait of the game. Apart from that, it just delivers 10 hours of repetitive hack and slash gameplay and a tedious story worth a third grader. [Issue#308]
-
Dec 14, 2020A visually stunning game, Godfall suffers from repetitive combat and a lackluster story that is forgettable after the first hour. In an industry with so many Dark Souls-style games, this is not one to spend time on.
-
Dec 4, 2020Godfall only succeeds in creating interesting combat systems without giving any thought to the world and story around it.
-
Dec 1, 2020Godfall is arguably the most conformist looter of all. Perhaps fearing to fail where its predecessors failed, it passes by as a nay-sayer: ‘no’ to big cinematic stories, ‘no’ to huge sandbox environments, ‘no’ to… matchmaking? No visual customization? Why? That’s right, this one appeals to dedicated players, holding just about the bare minimum amount of features. Fancy graphics, deep progression, challenging combat. It’s fun, sure, but we’d wish Aperion was a much meatier world.
-
Dec 1, 2020Godfall combines common sword-fighting gameplay with typical hack-and-slash elements, but controls and enemy animations lack polish and don’t feel well balanced. There’s not enough of it either. Godfall also does not come optimized for PC: The UI is cumbersome to navigate through, and while in the end there’s still some good hack-and-slash fun to be had, there’s nothing unique here you won’t find elsewhere.
-
Nov 30, 2020While some of Godfall's systems are polished and well-designed (e.g. combat) the title fails to bring everything together. The result, although visually spectacular, is quite underwhelming, imposed by the demanding grinding which feels like a chore rather than motivation. A missed chance.
-
Nov 30, 2020At least for now, unless you’re really itching to play a brand new looter game, you can probably give this one a pass.
-
Nov 27, 2020Godfall is not only fun to play, it has also a beautiful looking graphic. On top of that the combat system works amazing and is long term satisfying. Even after 15 hours of gameplay it’s still great to jump into a fight. Also technically Godfall is more than a solid game. Despite the lots of reflections and particle effects it runs very smoothly with over 100fps. The main problem of the action rpg is definitely the weak story and the generic level design. At the end also good features wear out, if the variety is missing completely.
-
Nov 20, 2020Regardless of how satisfying the combat may be, it’s only somewhat of a redeeming component to prevent the game from being a total letdown. Godfall has looting and it has slashing, to be sure, but you end up wading through so much to enjoy those parts. Perhaps loot fiends will get hooked on the endgame loop enough to stick around for a while, but what waits at the end is hardly worth the time it takes to get there.
-
Nov 19, 2020Godfall is another Anthem, although, due to its intense combat system it could have been so much more.
-
Nov 18, 2020Godfall is a typical game that make you scream when you watching its trailers, but make you sleepy when you actually playing. Its gorgeous art design and outstanding graphics are indeed commendable. But in other parts, it's very boring.
-
Nov 18, 2020A pleasant, samey slasher that may bore your digits while making your GPU sweat.
-
Nov 18, 2020Godfall currently feels very familiar: it unashamedly borrows the loot system that made Destiny and Borderlands great, attempting to mix it with hardcore Souls-like melee combat. In the first few hours, this makes the game feel a little dull. But the core mechanics feel well built and could act as a stable base for the game’s more interesting character building and co-op dynamics, of which I’ve currently only scratched the surface. [Review in Progress]
-
Nov 17, 2020Godfall is not the first “Next Gen” slap, but turns out to be fun to go, the first few hours at least, before suffering from a repetitiveness which significantly deteriorates the gaming experience.
-
Nov 16, 2020Even if you can play with others, Godfall's meaty combat eventually begins to wear thin after the umpteenth version of the same fight. This is a shallow game bolstered by decent combat that struggles to bear the weight of an entire game. Uninteresting loot mixed with a monotonous and grindy structure is not a good combination, and for as satisfying and fun as it can often be to hack your way through one battle after another, there's not enough here to sustain that enjoyment for more than a few hours.
-
Nov 16, 2020The combat feels good, but that doesn't stop it from being an aggressively mediocre game that lifted most of its gameplay ideas from better titles. Play those instead.
-
Nov 14, 2020Godfall's tried and trusted combat feels pleasant from moment-to-moment, but doesn't do enough to distract from an otherwise hollow experience.
-
Nov 14, 2020Godfall is a visual success, and it has good fights, as well as countless options to create a knight of your own to meet the high level challenges. Unfortunately, it also did way too much in some areas, overloading the controls and equipment options, while completely forgetting to offer differences between armor classes. The content is lacking, with a limited universe and activities that are excessively repetitive. In the end, we always find ourselves doing the same thing over and over again.
-
Nov 13, 2020Godfall can be an enjoyable and lovely gear-based action game while it lasts, but the repetition of its missions wears thin before the end of its campaign, and even thinner in the endgame afterward. Its combat is packed full of decisions to make and a healthy mix of familiar and genuinely novel mechanics, but its Valorplate suits aren’t as mechanically diverse as they initially seem on their gorgeous exteriors. With neither an interesting story nor a deep pool of varied content, all the choice Godfall offers doesn’t amount to much more than a bit of brief and shallow fun.
-
Nov 12, 2020It's derivative, only has three zones, and doesn't have much to offer besides its combat, but Godfall will be enjoyable to anyone who just wants a well-tuned, good-looking action RPG to slash their way through.
-
Nov 12, 2020Godfall is an ambitious action RPG with gorgeous graphics and great combat mechanics that jump off the screen. Unfortunately, its repetitive locations and missions, lack of strong narrative, and uncompelling characters may fail to impress players and those factors prevent Godfall from living up to its potential.
-
Nov 11, 2020Unfortunately, what might have looked like a fine jewel in the glint from your flashlight is really just a shiny piece of glass that leaves a lot to be desired. If you want a fairly mindless RPG experience that offers some different weapons and gear to mess around with, then Godfall will give you at least a few hours of fun.

Nov 17, 2020I can see all the things Godfall wants to do, and at times, these desires complement each other. But they clash much more often, leading to a cluttered mess that strains under the pressure to turn all its disparate ambitions into something greater.
