    I would have enjoyed this game if it wasn't so buggy and broken. Got to the point where it won't load my save anymore in the final act. Very annoying. Your mileage may vary but for me, not being able to finish it means I can't give it any score, let alone a good one.

    Months in and still a train wreck of glitches and crashes. The shift from a great game into some micro-transaction nonsense really took away from the whole point of the series. I can not, in good conscienceless, suggest this game if you enjoyed the previous versions. Just remember the good games and leave this mosquito of a wallet drainer out in the cold where it can die an ingloriousMonths in and still a train wreck of glitches and crashes.     Awfully optimized, there's a lot of performance issues which include fps drops and stuttering. Wallbounce is ruined since bullet magnetism is so notable which makes this game look noob-friendly ruining competitive. Gnasher consistency is nasty and unreliable, Campaign is boring (I didn´t even finish it) and characters are boring too. Gears used to be gold, but the Coalition killed it.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Fanboyism aside go and look on STEAM to see what people that actually own the game think. Spoiler alert, its not good. Makes me also really wonder why the critics gave it such high scores...Something fishy is going on.

    My review: Its better than Gears 4 and the graphics is really top notch. However, the characters are extremely shallow and sometimes it feels like I am watching a bunch of teenagers stuck in big adult bodies.

    The story is immature when it needs to be mature. Sometimes a little maturity comes through, but as you enjoy the fresh air, it gets poisoned by some idiotic line or action a few seconds later. Its a lot of up and down weirdness that just makes you go. "Really?". Example: One scene Dave the robot receives love and care from a fellow team mate and then the next scene he is replaced by another robot and then suddenly nobody gives a **** about Dave. Sometimes it tried too hard to be deep, but instead, came off as pretentious.

    Levels look great, but its basically just that. Invisible walls, doors that can only be opened by a robot, and then suddenly the same door, just around the corner can be opened by the player makes you just go, "wtf?". It seemed they tried to combine some action types of sequences like we have seen with other major titles like Uncharted and God of War for example, but it feels half baked.

    I enjoyed the cutscenes, the explosions and all that. But boy, I hated the characters, the story in general and the annoying little things in the level design as mentioned above. One would think with all the money that goes into making the game look beautiful, at least some decent amount would be put aside for a proper writer...but that is clearly not the case.

    It has made some improvements and I think the idea was right. However, the execution is poor and I do not recommend paying full retail price. Get it on game pass or with a 50%+ discount.    … Expand

    El juego es muy bueno pero lamentablemente en pc funciona horrible. Si lo jugas solo es pasable. Se ve hermoso pero los bugs son insoportables en ciertos momentos. EL gran problema lo tiene en coop, prácticamente se vuelve injugable, los bugs no te dejan avanzar, teniendo que repetir varias veces algunas misiones hasta que se desbuguee. En resumidas cuentas, si lo juegan en pc esperenEl juego es muy bueno pero lamentablemente en pc funciona horrible. Si lo jugas solo es pasable.     The game looks good, but nothing groundbreaking or up to the standards some have been advertising. Truth be told I find the material authoring and asset definition around the environment quite average, if not below expectation. Gameplay is pretty much the same as it has always been. There is really not much to say here unfortunately. Get it on game pass, play it and move on. Collapse

    La razón, el motivo por el que le doy un 4 es por una "cosita insignificante". Tras pasarme la campaña en locura, coger TODOS los colecionables, armas especiales, mejoras para Jack, y puntos de mejora (lleva tiempo, ademas de ser tedioso, y en las partes de mundo abierto, aburrido), el juego me dice    El juego tendría un 8 (mas no, por que el mundo abierto le ha hecho mas mal que bien).

    No hay manera humana de saber que me falta, por que como ya dije, ya lo completé TODO, así que me toca volver a pasarlo ENTERO en locura, cosa difícil, para obtener el logro, y recoger TODOS las mejoras de nuevo, por que el juego no me ha marcado algunas.

    Me da igual que el juego sea de hace 4 días, es un fallo ENORME, que hace que tengas que repetirlo TODO.

    Como ya he dicho el juego se merecería un 8, pero la han cagado, y no se que pinta un mundo abierto en un shooter frenético, te saca de la tensión y el momento.

    LO BUENO:
    En los modos online no he encontrado problemas. Enfrentamiento esta muy bien, el modo horda.... es el modo horda, ¿que mas necesitas?, y el modo escape no es que me agrade personalmente, pero no esta mal, es distinto, y es una mecánica cuanto menos interesante.    … Expand

    Oh and they try really hard to make you hate JD. You know, the ''white male bad guy''.

    I'm pretty much done with the franchise. Maybe I'm just getting too old for this. So is Marcus by the way, even though he and delta squad are about the only enjoyable part of this game.    … Expand

    Great graphics, good game..if it would work! Too many frustrating bugs and a ridiculous AI what causes only problems: in some levels I needed to revive all team members every 2 seconds! Gears 5 would be the best episode in the franchise. But with missing quality control this game is only frustrating. Also: the woman Kait is talking by far too much!! Why I cannot choose a male character,Great graphics, good game..if it would work! Too many frustrating bugs and a ridiculous AI what causes only problems: in some levels I needed to revive all team members every 2 seconds! Gears 5 would be the best episode in the franchise.     The Game is awesome, runs smooth, but has GPU crashes, error GW502 all the time, the new NVIDIA driver made it worse, for me now its not playable...what a waste.
    While you were reading this review, the GPU crashed again...
    What a waste, the game is awesome, but its broken right now on PC.

    «Gears 5» в целом ОК.

    Сюжетная кампания куда веселее и увлекательнее, чем в «Gears of War 4», которую прошел год тому назад. В целом всё куда разнообразнее в плане локаций, ситуаций и прочего. Есть пара-тройка новых механик, которые неплохо смотрятся, но реализованы довольно слабо, что стелс, что опенворлд. Остается надеяться, что условная 6-рка продвинется в этом аспекте куда дальше и    «Gears 5» в целом ОК.

    Сюжетная кампания куда веселее и увлекательнее, чем в «Gears of War 4», которую прошел год тому назад. В целом всё куда разнообразнее в плане локаций, ситуаций и прочего. Есть пара-тройка новых механик, которые неплохо смотрятся, но реализованы довольно слабо, что стелс, что опенворлд. Остается надеяться, что условная 6-рка продвинется в этом аспекте куда дальше и лучше. Ну и да, финал типичной трилогии или чего такого оставляет смешанные впечатления от оборванного клиффхэнгера и условного “to be continued”, которое придется ждать года 3. Ну и дизайн новой трилогии всё так же не цепляет.

    Неплохо освежили мультиплеер. Никогда не любил «Horde», к нему же отправляется «Escape», вроде любопытный новый режим, но не для меня. А вот классический «Versus» за счет повышенной скорости и TTK прям заиграл новыми красками, дико протащился с этого режима, хотя раньше не особо ценил мультиплеер серии.

    Спорная техническая составляющая ПК-версии периодически портила впечатления.    … Expand

    Unfortunately a host of technical issues, gameplay bugs and poor design choices hold it back from being a great game. The PC version suffers exceptionally with instability, lackluster HDR implementation and broken vibration when playing split screen to name just a few issues. PC    Gears 5 is nice to look at and features the same tried and true cover shooting mechanics as its predecessors.

    Unfortunately a host of technical issues, gameplay bugs and poor design choices hold it back from being a great game. The PC version suffers exceptionally with instability, lackluster HDR implementation and broken vibration when playing split screen to name just a few issues. PC players are also treated as second class citizens yet again with no ability to play Horde, Escape or Versus modes in split-screen. These features are available on Xbox and it's unacceptable that the PC versions has such limited replay value by comparison (especially when the price is identical).

    As a game, Gears 5 tries to do a couple new things with limited success. Jack's abilities are a welcome addition, however the UI makes them a nightmare to use in the heat of combat. Long, boring vehicle sections ruin the flow of the game and become frustrating after a few hours. Instead of sticking to what it does well (3rd person shooting) the game tries to do too many things that just don't end up adding to the experience (open world).

    Play this game with a cheap subscription to Xbox game pass on PC, it's not worth your 60-80 dollars.    … Expand

Jamais vocês deveriam de terem saído deste inestimável jogo. Perderam a noção do que ser é ser uma empresa/criador criativa/criativo se inspirando em jogo da corrente que ganhou de melhor jogo do ano anterior. Porém não tem aVolta Cliff Bleszinski e a Epic Games por favor, para salvar esta magnífica franquia de uma vez por todas, a Dona deste magnifico jogo, está destruindo a mesma...     Puntos negativos:
    -De los primeros 40min de juego, 15min, son cinemáticas, aburridas y tediosas cinemáticas. -El gameplay está constantemente interrumpido por secciones de dar paseitos, charlas, o secciones largas aburridas, precedidas por una cinemática, o después de una de ellas. Pero es de forma tan constante, que se hace muy tedioso,    SÓLO TENIENDO EN CUENTA EL MODO CAMPAÑA:

Pero es de forma tan constante, que se hace muy tedioso, destroza por completo la experiencia de juego... (tal vez si lo que quieres es ver videos sobre el gears, queda chulísimo, pero en cuanto coges el control es sencillamente aburrido).

    -No puedes moverte libremente por el mapeado. Se hace absolutamente frustrante. Todo son paredes invisibles, todo.
    ¿Ves que nada te retiene de seguir adelante? Pared invisible.
    Oye por aquí no hay ninguna pared, nada, ¿Por qué no puedo bajar del segundo piso a la calle simplemente saltando o dejándome caer? Pared invisible...

    -Para recargar hay una mecánica por la cual se crea una barrita debajo del arma, que si le vuelves a dar a la r en un buen momento recarga más rápido, si no, más lento. No sé en qué mundo en medio de un combate a tiros, tienes que estar apartando tu mirada de la partida para ver la barrita de recarga y darle. Recargamos todo el rato en un juego de estas características, y esto no es nada agradable tener que hacerlo constantemente...

    -Por último, me han derribado, y mientras espameaba el espacio para que me levantasen, el compañero decía: ya voy!, estoy yendo!, así todo el rato. Cuando él estaba a un metro, así hasta que morí (obviamente se había bugueado). Y aquí decidí parar el juego.

    Puntos positivos:
    Gráficamente el juego es una barbaridad, juego a todo en ultra, lo capo a 144fps y de ahí no baja (no tengo mal pc además, pero el rendimiento es bárbaro para lo bien que se ve).

    Conclusión:
    Para el que le guste todo el rollo gráfico con cinemáticas, películas de acción y demás. Seguramente lo disfrutareis mucho.
    Para los que os guste jugar, y si queréis ir a veros una película vais a ver una, no queréis que os interrumpan constantemente en la partida. Iros a otra parte, se hace demasiado aburrido.

    Nada de tonterías de hater, llevo pagando el game pass un tiempo y así seguiré, pero no para jugar al gears, al menos no el modo campaña (que era en verdad lo que me interesaba, me gusta más ese rollo). Seguramente pruebe el multijugador, que seguramente sea bastante mejor que la campaña... Y de ahí editaré la review con lo que vea.    … Expand

    Fights are hellishly boring.
    Too many one-shots out of nowhere and too little enemy variety. There are a lot of enemies who are almost not dangerous, but require a long and tedious shooting at one point on their ass or somewhere else.
    Constant babysitting with ai companions, plus one-shots, plus checkpoints, plus boring shooting at large enemies at one point and you get at times the most incredibly hellishly boring repetitive gameplay.
    Open arenas are pointless timewasters.
    And oh god, hire good writers please.
     What is this miserable cliched “Luke I'm Your Father” plot? You destroy plot potentials for locusts! They could have had a centuries-old history, and now they have nothing.
    And, I laughed to the pain in my stomach over the choice that you suddenly give me. I see what you did here. You collect statistics and try to understand whether it is possible to bury old gears or fans are not yet ready to swallow your pathetic new gears. I'm not on your side on this    … Expand

    Terrible. Filled with bugs and glitches on top of HORRIBLE, anti-consumer, predatory micro-transactions. How far Gears of War franchise has fallen, no wonder they changed the name to Gears 5, this isn't true Gears of War and it doesn't deserve that name, this is just another terrible product from Xbox Games Studios.

    Bought on Steam. And it simply wont work. I got CTD with GW502. They completely ignore to add latest Win10 build in system requirements! Don't buy this yet, if you have Win 10 build, early then 1903.

    Very , extremely, put me to sleep story.... Seriously this is not Gears. .... it is a fun game for about 20 min and then its on to something else. such a damn shame.
    The maps are seriously the biggest joke ... they suck ass and are small and crappy.

    Having only played the single player I can say that from a technical and visual standpoint the game is fantastic, but that's where the positives end.

    Who thought it was a good idea to make the game semi-open world? Was it really the best they were able to come up with? It genuinely adds nothing to the experience other than to be an annoying, exhausting time sink. The dialogue...     The dialogue... Oh god... Whoever was responsible for the dialogue: You're not funny. Your jokes are not funny and your writing is cringe-inducing. The protagonists act like characters out of a teen drama novel. God forbid there would have been a single line of dialogue where they don't apologize for something, act insulted, or attempt to show their gratitude in the most exaggerated manner imaginable.
    I got Mass Effect Andromeda flashbacks while playing this game; that should tell you something about the quality of the writing.

    It's time to bring Marcus Fenix out of retirement. I'm genuinely sick of the new protagonists.    … Expand

    I’ve been a playstation guy my whole life, Ive never owned an xbox, but thanks to Microsofts decision to make their exclusives available on pc, im able to experience this side of the tracks, and I was so excited to do so, I never played a Gears of War Game, so I sat down on youtube, got a story recap and hopped in… This is a 3rd person shooter that takes    Gears 5

    This is a 3rd person shooter that takes places after the events of gears of war 3 and 4.. you get part of the story at the beginning of this game…
    I wasn’t too attached or interested after the intial run down, but still hyped for the gameplay, the tutroal starts, the game is having me look up to determine my input preferences, that alone had me excited for how neat this game was going to be…
    But I just never was blown away…
    The story telling and level design is just so bland.. nothing took my breath away or made me feel like wow, this is what ive been missing all of these years… I do love the weapon variety.. but when it comes down to combat, controls here are so unintuitive that it just constantly pulls you out of the game…
    its okay to have the same control scheme as call of duty… they have it down… I don’t want to hold a buttown down to run, let me just click my stick… the fast reload mechanic makes you take your eye off of the action.. all of the mechanic decisions just makes me feel like Im juggling as Im shooting.
    Throughout this 12 hour campaign yo udo have a little squad with you that changes as the story progresses.. and these members can be controlled by real people locally and online…which is what I highly advise…
    As the ai here is completely useless…
    Dels the type of guy to yell “nows our chance shoot his back!” And not do ****
    Amking these drawnout unfun boss battles even more unfun and frustrating at times as you die over and over…

    That’s probably because im the only one of use shooting any bullets.
    Who isn’t useless though is your robot companion jack…
    He sticks with you through the end as youre searching the world to upgrade his abilities that are unlocked as the story progresses…
    back to the mechanics issues though.. shuffling through jacks abilities mid combat or even post or pre combat is unintuitive and feels like a jumbled jumbled mess
    but jack is easily my favorite part of this game…
    Its just a shame that jack is the only incentive to explore though…
    The world and level design here in Gears 5 again is just so bland, so uninteresting and boring…
    there are a couple open world sections of the game where you can go explore a little if youd like.. but again.. nothing about this world made me care to do so…
    another giant issue I had with this games campaign is its awful progression indicators in story…
    don’t dare pause the game and com back to it later, because youl lhave no idea what youre supposed to be doing… Gears 5 does put little markers on the map for you to go to… but I would much prefer they put them on items im supposed to be interacting with instead of running around in circles looking for a switch or door with a footprint or hand print on it… it breaks the flow, takes me out of the world.. its just bad game design…
    And when it comes to performance, Gears 5 is awful on PC..
    I ran into constant crashes and Act 2 made the game completely unplayable.. literally… after searching the internet, ive discovered that this is not an uncommon issue.. updating all of my drivers did fix the crashing issue for me, but the game still stutters when too much is going on on screen.. I missed half of the final cutscene because it was stuck… I had to go to youtube to rewatch the ending.. and wouldn’t you know their cutscene video was lagging too.
    Online here is pretty typical fun third person shooter competitive stuff…
    Entertaining, nothing really wrong with it but nothing here to keep me hooked.. I felt no urge to play after playing for review purposes.. again like the campaign really bland.
    Gears 5 is a good game… But as a flagship exclusive from microsoft… I feel that xbox loyalists deserve better
    Theres nothing here to incentivize a purchase other than the continuation of a beloved franchise…
    And If you are buying to continue the story, I would recommend the xbox version over the pc so you can actually see it all.

The combat has been tweaked a lot better this time around compared to Gears 4. You no longer have to spend half an hour on a miniboss(that's what it felt like). Minibosses have health bars and take far less to kill than before. It's not all good, though. Jumpers can totally waste you with barrages unless you hide behind tall cover to gradually whittle their health. They weren't AS aggressive in Gears 4, here it's barrage after barrage with no delay between.

    So yeah, I was thoroughly enjoying just about everything, the gameplay, the graphics, the story, when the game went FULL WOKE. We had a character assassination moment, because men bad, then you start Act II with the girl and this REALLY bothered me. Del never shuts up about how great she is, constantly kissing her ♥♥♥ and praising her, the Great Feminist Savior.

    Also, tell me if you've heard this woke story before: she is the ONE, she is the KEY to EVERYTHING. The retcon in Gears 5 is mighty strong, they're insinuating the Locust were just a science experiment created by Men. Men BAD, do you get it? Oh and JD returns in Act 3 and starts kissing her ♥♥♥ as well. ALL PRAISE THE WOMAN.

    The first act is classic gears, but Act 2 and 3 are open world Ubisoft crap filled with.....filler side missions. Yes, side missions in a Gears game.     It was Characters and story were really lacking. I didn't care about the characters and the story was disappointing with poor writing.

    Your allies AI was really frustrating at times - I failed missions due to the AI running into enemies and such. I had the objective get stuck a couple of times so I couldn't proceed and had to start back at checkpoint.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This review is 90% campaign (on INSANE mode), and 10% multiplayer. Gears 5 is a good game.

    Easy stuff first. Soundtrack is okay. Sound design is very good (you never get tired of the meaty CRUNCH of headshot kills; guns sound good). Graphics are really really good - optimization is surprisingly good, too (ran at +80 FPS on my GTX1070 and i7-8700k). On top of graphics, world design is really really good - every place you visit is screenshot-worthy; there is so much detail to look at in the world around you. The bases, offices, and rooms you visit all look like they actually were functioning once. Gameplay is great - it never gets tiring to run, hide behind cover, and pop some monster heads. The story is...very meh. I'll talk more about the story below. All in all, this is a very fun single-player experience. The gameplay and the beautifully realized world the devs built keep you coming back for more...even if the story sucks. The multiplayer is icing on the cake, in case you want more Gears of War gaming even after you've finished the campaign.

    So the story. It's...not very good. There are many, many moments that really break your immersion. For example, why does Kait and her gang have so much freedom? They're part of a military organization! I'm not a military employee or something; but even as a civilian, I look at the things that Kait and co. are free to do and I'm like "WTF? Don't they need clearance to do that? Can't they get court-martial-ed for disobeying orders?". Additionally, the things Kait and company are doing are actually EXTREMELY important for the survival of mankind, so...where is the rest of COG? Why don't they help? Why doesn't the chain of command bother to know or even care about what's happening?
    More story issues. In chapter 2, Kait decides to go AWOL and they just...let her? Don't get me wrong, Kait clearly has telepathic links to the Swarm, so yes, THE AUDIENCE knows that she has a good reason...but in the game, she literally does NOT explain this to JD and the gang. She effectively just says "I'm going and that's THAT! Because reasons!!!" and JD kinda just goes..."But!...okay, I guess.". It's really, really, dumb writing. And then there's this weird decision to make you play chapter 1 as JD...only to shift the story to Kait at chapter 2. The narrative disconnect between chapter 1 and 2 is MASSIVE. The only meaningful thing that happened in chapter 1 is that JD took a tactical risk that got Carmine killed, which made him a stone-cold, by-the-books kind of soldier. This stuff about JD's character development sounds good, until we see him again in chapter 3 and...he's pretty much the same? Throughout chapter 2, Kait and Del are saying stuff like "man, will JD ever be the same again?...", "JD took Carmine's death really hard..."; but when you see him again he is LITERALLY the same again. He is the exact same JD from chapter 1. The only thing different about him now is his arm is burnt and he's bald, which is cool, I guess? Basically once you hit chapter 3, you realize chapter 1 was a wasted narrative.
    And then!!! You hit chapter 4. You have to make a terrible choice - save Del or JD? But...why? Literally, why??? This choice scene starts with an earthquake which robs Del, JD, and Kait of all NINE OF THEIR MAG-LOCKED WEAPONS. After all the tumbling, rolling, and falling you have done for THREE CHAPTERS, YOUR WEAPONS HAVE NEVER EVER FALLEN OFF YOUR BACK OR HIP. So now the audience is just supposed to accept that "oh no! all are magnetically-locked weapons on our armor were shaken of by an earthquake! we are weaponless now! the tension is SO HIGH!"...stupid stupid writing. So yeah, defenseless, the Swarm Queen (using Kait's mom's body) or something approaches Kait. Swarm Queen attacks Del, JD, and Kait. She has her deadly tentacles around their necks, and she has them cornered. She can kill them now, easily, if she wanted. But for some reason, when she sees you have a knife, she gives you a choice? Save JD or Del? And then after you make your choice, she says "you made your choice! NOW DIE WITH IT!". Huh??? She made you choose who to save, then will kill you BOTH anyway? So many questions! Why did she give us a choice in the first place, only to leave us to die anyway? Why approach Kait without making her intentions clear? What was the point of all of this? This whole scene was so abruptly stupid that I scoffed when I watched it happen. It almost feels like some executive sat-in one day and had "this really cool idea for the story" and the devs were forced to implement it last-minute. It's so freaking dumb. To add insult to narrative injury, once you are buried by the earthquake, YOU AND JD/DEL HAVE PISTOLS AGAIN. My goodness!

    Anyway, yeah. The gameplay is SO GOOD that the game gets a hard pass for it's atrociously bad story. Play it. Turn off your brain, alt-tab when there are cutscenes, and just enjoy the gameplay.    … Expand

Fora bugs onde não conseguimos prosseguir de uma etapa pra outra pq o jogo não percebeu que eu tinha matado todos os inimigos, ou aliados travados em partes do mapa.

    Enfim, assim fica dificil. Jogar numa dificldade elevada é frustrante pelo fato de que seus aliados são inuteis e os inimigos possuem muitas armas hitkill e 129081 de HP, se tornando muito entediante visto que você não tem o sentimento de que melhorou para passar de tal parte, só teve mais sorte. E a jogabilidade padrão gears - jogador pesado, armas que atiram nerf, tiros na cabeça ineficientes e mobilidade desengonçada - se mostra defasada cada vez mais, evitando a modernização como o proprio HALO 5 fez, tendo a melhor gameplay da franquia. Qual é, galera. Mesmo botão ser responsavel por rolar, correr e pegar cover é, no minimo, deprimente.

    Os graficos são bonitos, mas nada que realmente impressione - joguei no ultra, numa resolução acima de 2.5k -, a falta de detalhes num jogo deste orçamento incomoda. Jogos como Gears 2 eram mais destrutivos e mais intensos.

    A historia é bacana. Não há plots ou demais aprofundamento nos personagens, e desanima um pouco pro final, prolongando muito os atos, mas ainda sim prende um pouquinho.

    O jogo tentou ser mais dinamico, mas falha. O robo é legal e ajuda mais que seus aliados. Ademais, os combates ainda são repetitivos, onde ordas e ordas vem te atacar.    … Expand

    Easily the worst game in the franchise. The open wolrd elements just drag out what's already a pretty dull and uninspired effort that more than outstays it's welcome. New mechanics don't really add much to the game and most boss fights are more tedious than ever.

    I remember in the xbox/ps2 era, i always wanted to play gears of war. i loved my ps2 and i wouldnt trade it for anything, but there always were some games from other consoles i'd like to play, right?
    well, like 15 years(?) have passed and i finally played a GoWar game.
    unfortunately i started with the worst one, according to reviews everywhere.
    still i can only imagine what the first one may have been, if it was anything like this one, i can totally understand the hype (then), and i can also understand the hate (now).
    just an okay game, for me. nothing memorable (except maybe the cruelty they throw at the player, making us choose, literally, who of our friends would die. thats a bold move.

Графика красивая, левел дизайн еще сильнее все украсил. Персонажи интересные, не для галочки. When a progression system pushes you hard to not enjoy the game or not make the best play but instead try to achieve a certain tasks in each multiplayer session you have f*cked the multiplayer. Also instead of Gears 4s grindy lootbox microtrasaction system they've replaced it with a convoluted microtransaction mess with nothing of value to unlock and with no reasonable or fun way to progress toward unlocking anything. The only way to unlock anything of value will cost you at least an extremely excessive extra $40. They clearly marketed this game and redesigned the microtrasaction system to confuse customers and make it difficult for reviewers to warn players all with the main goal to limit outrage during launch. This is unfriendly and unethical behavior. Like with Gears 4 this games player base will die massively as players are left with again a trash progression system that is not centered around fun and the multiplayer gameplay itself. Under no circumstance should you trust TC and Rod again and buy Gears 6 in the future. Gears of War is now a dead franchise that lies and manipulates you. Its not surprising at all that they made Gears 5 crossplatform with PC since they basically killed the franchises playerbase with 4s grindy lootbox microtransactions system. But after this I don't know what TC will do to trick players to buy 6. I believe this game just spent the last bit of trust players had with TC and Rod. For me this game was going to decide if I switched to PlayStation for next gen and this game has decided it for me Microsoft is not serious about creating Fun AAA games they are not PlayStation and they are certainly not a Nintendo. Microsoft has taken yet again another stupid pointless approach to gaming and blowing player trust. but for many this was Microsofts last chance.     This is my first Gears game. The game looks stunning and runs great (RX580). Story seems OK, shooting mechanics are also OK. Don't think this game is worth $60 but I got it with gamepass so it's a fantastic deal.

    Coop is unplayable. It`s either a refund or you just have to wait hopin` for comin` fixes.

    Windows 10 last version. I7 4790s. DDR3 8gb. AMD RX 480 4gb last driver. Samsung Evo 860 SSD.

    Campaign is amazing. Otherwise this would be a 0/10. Multiplayer is too broken to even go on a rant about it, because the game doesn't deserve the words. Also the game crashes periodically and doesn't keep accurate track of stats.

    The PC game only adds to what would be one of 2019's best games. This game looked amazing on the base XB1 and the PC version takes this game and runs 1000miles forward with it. Great game, The campaign is a masterpiece and is up there with the very best. Must play for Gears fans and a great entry to new Gears fans. Looking forward to Gears 6.

    Gears 5 sports an interesting and engaging campaign with acting and cinematography worthy of its triple-A title. It is also made with impressive levels of optimisation while still being visual appealing. Gears 5 is fun, chaotic, and engaging; I don't see why anyone who likes to play third person cover shooters wouldn't buy this, franchise newcomers and veterans alike.

    If you haven't figured it out yet Kait is Gears new lead. Not just Gears 5 but seemingly Gears of War itself. The Coalition decided that Kait, not JD Fenix or his best friend Dell, is the successor to the Lancer wielding, curb stomping, Marcus Fenix legacy. For reasons that are not too hard to imagine in a western world obsessed with politically correct sentiment.

    It's not hard to envision development teams and even executive boardrooms filled with castrated males trying not to offend the women around them when it comes to the creation of a narrative like this. It is obvious that female inclusion and visibility, no matter how masculine the premise, is all that matters and it's brotherhood be damned from here on out.

    In fact, they are so serious about this, they force you the player to be complicit in killing off brotherhood in Gears 5 by literally having you choose... Spoiler Incoming

    which bro's neck to break so that a woman has a place on the two man squad forever. Making the overwhelmingly male player base (especially the young ones) an accomplice to the death of brotherhood is psychologically masterful. Showing how serious modern developers are in their activism.

The new mechanics, and combat are leagues above its predecessors. Overall this is a MUST PLAY if u have xgp.     The single player is good , however I can't say the same for mp as it crashes way too frequent on my gtx 1060 card while playing ranked game, costed me a win on last round as it crashed right before the game score screen and didnt count my win.... Coalition please fix this asap!! untill then just stick to single player and endure its crashes...

    Secondly, the scrap system that unlocks certain things in the game is also pushing players to pay money by being very convoluted. You can play for two and a half hours in multiplayer and you might get 5 scrap. The cheapest unlocks are about 40 scrap. And the good basic unlocks are about 100. Also, fairly shady, Microsoft!

    Thirdly, long time Gears players could find themselves annoyed by the number of minor changes and subtle differences in gameplay in this installment until they become used to them.

You will almost never teleport into a vehicle or through a door because dedication has been made to create an immersive experience and there are animations for basically everything you do.

    Audio is another hit with stellar sound effects that hit all the right notes. Explosions feel impactful and weighty which is exactly what you want in a game with many explosions and chainsaws ripping through flesh. I won't be searching up the sound track because the score itself isn't all that memorable but the intense action scenes and emotional beats are all supported by appropriate music which serve the game well. Voice acting is also top notch here,

    The story isn't the highlight and this definitely won't replace your narrative driven games but it wasn't really trying to. It's an excuse to bring you to some cool locations and fight some bad guys with big guns, and to that extent it does its job. The plot moves along at a good pace though I personally didn't care all that much for the overall objective. What kept me interested were the characters as they do genuinely bring a smile to your face with the cheesy squad dialogue and they were all unique enough to not instantly forget who they were if they were gone for a few scenes. There were a few emotional moments and choices which didn't fully land but weren't far off. Maybe it's because I haven't played Gears 4 and so i'm not hugely invested in the characters? Either way at the very least it kept me entertained and interested all the way through.

    Gameplay is absolutely at the top of the class. Almost every shooter mechanic or trope is included here and yet it doesn't feel bloated at all. From powerful, fun guns to environmental hazards. Turret sections to manning your vehicle . Quicktime events to executions and melee combat. There is even stealth and playing as the enemy race. This might sound a bit overdone but it all works out beautifully and never feels in your face. You're not forced to utilise everything in your arsenal but you're encouraged to try them out and have fun. The way they best accomplish this is with your AI companion, Jack.

    Jack functions unlike your other standard AI squaddies, He still revives you when you go down and zaps bad guys; but has abilities which compliment how you choose to play. He has a few support and assault abilities which can be found and upgraded throughout the campaign via the main story as well as sidequests. These often have multiple uses inside and outside combat. For example is the CLOAK ability. Stealth is a pretty barebones system which basically amounts to going behind an enemy to one-shot execute them as long as they have seen you yet, however with the cloak ability you get to reposition or take out key targets like snipers. Further upgrading it will also let you remain in stealth after performing actions which can keep the stealth kill chain active and severely break down enemy defences. Along with the ability to bypass turrets outside combat, this makes upgrading Jacks abilities very beneficial and I used practically all of them while playing.

    Co-Op was extremely well done... if you're playing with just one friend. This is because the 3rd player is forced into the aforementioned Robot role. As much as I just praised Jack in the paragraph above, this does not translate well into 3 player co-op. Not only do the two other human players no longer get use any abilities themselves, playing as Jack just isn't very fun. You don't get to play with any of the big guns nor do much direct damage yourself, you are relegated to support it just isn't enough. I see what they were going for here but sadly it does not pan out. Two player co-op on the other hand is simply fantastic. Both players have different perspectives, even in some cutscenes which always kept us communicating and talking about what just happened. I won't get into spoilers here but it's well worth playing the game with a good friend over a voice call. You can share ammo, work together when taking out enemies and bosses and at times get to play out slightly different experiences, like when very early in the game one of you gets trapped in a flaming building and the other has to rescue them.

    Performance was smooth as butter and I had no frame drops or connection issues playing on co-op the entire way through. There is a suite of customisation and accessibility options here and The Coalition and Microsoft should get nothing but praise for this. Its outstanding. Without jumping into multiplayer I can easily recommend this game. What a great value! Especially since its all available on Game Pass for PC for such little cost. 10/10    … Expand

These are undoubtably paid shills probably using bots to leave huge amounts of positive reviews. It's simply impossible to trust Metacritic scores any more now that shilling has become such a big business on the internet and Metacritic is the perfect place for it.

    That said, some people will love this game. And if you want something to melt your new RTX GPU, you can't go wrong with this.    … Expand

    En cuanto al combate es muy parecido al que vimos en Gears of War 4 aunque en este se incorpora la capacidad de recargar aunque no hayamos gastado ninguna bala. En este juego se incorpora a la plantilla un robot de apoyo (al principio será Dave, pero luego se sustituye por Jack) pero no se le da mucha profundidad de mecánicas fuera del combate. Siempre que se le necesita es porque hay un conducto y una puerta bloqueada. En general le recomiendo a quien quiera empezar en la saga Gears of War ver un poco del 4 y jugar a este 5.     It's sad to say, but this has to be the worst Gears game I have played (I've played all the games but GoW Judgement). The game was released over a month ago now and the game still feels like its in beta. The lag is high in this game nearly all the time, and the game is full of bugs that hurt game play experience and waste valuable time. This game feels like Gears of War 2 where to play with low ping you would need to be host, in this case you would need to be very close to whatever random server is chosen. The movement is also very clunky especially with the current cover system which feels like it got worse from previous Gears as well. The character selection and map selection is the lowest I have ever seen, and the maps get stale quickly due to only 7 different maps to choose from. It is very hard to find good things to say about this game when I feel any other Gears of War did everything better.… Expand

    WORST checkpoints ever. Even if you have beaten huge wave of enemies or one big enemy which takes a lot of time on hard difficulty (normal is boring because you don't feel any resistance at all) and die randomly from one grenade or rocket of last enemy (it oneshotes you no matter what which is REALLY frustrating) or there's another wave coming and you died at the end of it - you gottaWORST checkpoints ever. There are many bugs when enemy just stops and does nothing and you can't go forward because he's alive and you have to search for him. I had a bug when in kraken fight it just didnt open last eye so i had to do all the fight AGAIN.
    Dumb matriarch fight. Everything what makes big enemies strong is their huge hp bar so you have to fire 300 bullets in one of them which is stupid old game design.
    People say graphics is good and most of the time it's true, but even with ultra textures its' ok but not everywhere.
    Plot is boring, relationships between characters are made SO BADLY that it makes no interest at all. And i know that we have this dumb feminism trend but playing 90% of the game as a boring girl in supposedly brutal shooter is't fun
    The only good thing in this game is optimisation, which is really good with this graphics, but game itself has so bad game design, plot, checkpoints and ancient gameplay.    … Expand

    "Gears of Opinionated Alt-Chick" is not what fans of the series want. Get woke, go broke. If you want to be successful, you have to cater to the fanbase that brought you the success you had, instead of catering to SJW's who don't even buy your games. There is nothing cringier than being forced to play some feminist savior in a game that used to be about testosterone and war.

    Incredibly clumsy controls make the most of the game difficulty. Last boss is difficult only because of terrible controls, character stuck and fail to run properly. This makes it annoying and not challenging experience.

    Favorite Thing: I like the Gears world and the sci-fi story.
    Least Favorite Thing: The Matriarch fight was a whole lot of one-hit, bullet sponge BS.
