To preface, this game is for the absent minded who just want to play something while they're waiting to do something more important.

But that doesn't mean it was a bad game, rather it was short, sweet and fun so read on to learn more about Frightened Beetles.

    What’s it about?
A beetle has been frightened by some unknown sound and as it runs across the tree branch to safety dodging razor sharp leafs on the way it causes a cascade of destruction to the other insects in the area.

    What do I do?
Take the control of one of three insects.
The first insect is the beetle which you use up, down and jump to avoid getting cut by the leaves.
The second insect is a fly which moves left and right avoiding the tree branches as it flies to the sky.
The final insect is a ladybug which has the same controls as the fly is affected by gravity and must dodge ferns.
There are also collectible pickups that each insect can pick up.

    How does it play?
The controls are decent enough for a short indie game. Each button press has a slight delay but nothing that won’t be overcome with at least five retry’s.

    Who is for?
It does not have a specific target audience but to place it somewhere it would have to be in the casual gamers and I mean the really casual gamers. The gamers who want to play something that is completely simple but absurdly short. Though it could be played as a speed run it doesn’t really have much going for it because the time doesn’t vary enough and it can be completed within two minutes.
    What is the final takeaway?
Frightened beetles is fun on the first completion, maybe the second and third depending on if you want to get better at improving your reactions. The game though is rather fun and the silly humor of razor sharp leaves is absurd, an insect playing a banjo, a drunk fly and saddened ladybug add the weirdness and indieness that makes a game fun for anyone looking to have a quick good time.

So I would recommend it when your bored but if you’re looking for something longer shelve the game until you have five minutes to spend doing something mindless.
