This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. To put it bluntly, Security Breach is certainly fun and a very promising addition to the FNAF franchise, however it often falls short of the final hurdle in alot of confusing areas.

Aside from Freddy and Gregory the lore of the games characters, and the overall story as a whole, feels slightly underwhelming. Vanny, set up in trailers to be the game's main and most threatening antagonist, is barely involved in the plot outside of a cutscene and a brief escape event. For me at least this left endings involving her unsatisfying, as I simply didn't feel she was the threat the game wants me to associate her as. It leads me to wonder if this was how she was meant to be implemented, or whether a large amount of her story had to be cut to keep a 2021 release date plausible. This also feels like the case for the inclusion of William Afton/Springtrap, the series' arching Villian. His character appears seemingly out of nowhere, is involved in a brief boss fight in which he isn't really the main threat to Gregory, and then is presumably killed in a cutscene before the game ends. Again, a little underwhelming.

This is a problem with alot of seemingly important game elements. Vanessa, hyped to be an aid to Gregory as she battles over control over her body with Afton, is really just a shoe horned in antagonist. ALOT of her trailer dialogue is missing, which implied that she would be trying to help Gregory escape. A few trailer cutscenes are also seemingly gone from the game. This may be the reason why Vanny is also missing from a large chunk of the plot. She feels like an unfinished character whom they had to practically scrap from the lore to, again, make sure the game released in 2021.

More issues with the game include a heavy amount of game breaking glicthes and bugs. Softlocks can be a frequent occurrence, which is truly frustrating when you consider the game forces you to be unable to save at certain points. Animatronics appear where they shouldn't be, backtracking can break your game entirely at times, and doing anything the way the game doesn't want you to can cause it to freak out and break. Whilst I truly understand that, especially during a pandemic, a small team would struggle to iron out all of these issues; in my opinion a game delayed for over a year really shouldn't ship with this many GAME BREAKING bugs. Small bugs are very understandable. I can't say the same for an abundance of bugs that render the game unplayable.

Other smaller nitpicks include: Maps not being labelled, the map itself being too large and clunky making it easy to get lost, sometimes it is difficult to know what exactly you are meant to do allowing for a lot of time just looking around, and you only gain the power to see Unlockables anywhere on the map AFTER the game doesn't allow you to save, making finding and collecting them useless if you die, which can be frustrating.

I'd be lying however if I stated that I didn't have a blast playing this game. Gameplay is fun and addicting (outside of that dreaded Maze Puzzle), Boss battles were always a delight, and the game always left you craving more (which hurt more considering it falls short at the end).

Environments look stunning at best and pretty good at worst. The pizza plex itself has a vibrant and colourful motif that fits its atmosphere perfectly. Framerate did tend to be an issue at times, but it was only noticeable for brief moments outside of actual lag. The FazerBlast area in particular looks so cool, I'm shocked it ran so well for me considering how bright and flashy it becomes.

A final positive is the games mechanics. It felt rewarding to collect the FazCam and blaster in order to stun animatronics, and they felt like a good progression to have as you keep playing. Hiding from animatronics is always intense and their speed is genuinely frightening at times. Freddy in particular is perfectly implemented. He essentially works as a get out of jail free card for the majority of the game, but his power runs out quite quickly (and he will attack you if it runs out), balancing him well. It, again, feels rewarding to upgrade him as the story progresses and unlock secret optional areas. The way he interacts with Gregory is also really well done, although I do wish a bigger explanation was given as to why he is the only animatronic willing to be friendly to the player.

Overall, this game has a lot of problems, but is otherwise a good time. Id definitely recommend picking it up if you are a FNAF fan, but the games lore might be confusing if not. All I can hope for is patches for the bugs, and some dlc to give the story an expansion it deserves (and needs).

The latest installment of FNAF's is something I've wanted since the 4th game, with that being said, I feel like there were some missed opportunities here, while also kind of a degrade in the fear factor.

I don't care for how articulate the animations are now, but if you HAD to do that, why didn't you add creative interactions with the other animatronics when you were playing as Freddy?
The latest installment of FNAF's is something I've wanted since the 4th game, with that being said, I feel like there were some missed opportunities here, while also kind of a degrade in the fear factor.

I don't care for how articulate the animations are now, but if you HAD to do that, why didn't you add creative interactions with the other animatronics when you were playing as Freddy? They just kind of wander around and mumble.

While I enjoy the IDEA of what they were trying to do here, it just doesn't feel right. I have always personally felt like Five Nights at Freddy's was first and foremost about horror, that and the story and lore.

I don't know if I can actually call this a survival horror game, because I don't personally feel it's all that scary or horrifying. There's something different about it where most of the time, nothing in this game feels intimidating.

Did a few jump scares "get" me once or twice? Sure, that happens when stuff jumps up in your face and screams, but after the first few times, that's it, it's just annoying.

Honestly, this feels like 90% walking simulator. They do some stuff to try and liven it up, they give you a gun you can shoot some of the enemies to stun them, you can walk around safe inside Freddy, whatever. I can appreciate that, but it isn't enough.

I mean honestly, having to constantly upgrade security badges? Boss fights involving you walking around in a maze in the dark? Really? Another thing is, why are most of the fights just mazes? Really? Come on. This is all padding because the reality is, the game itself is very, very short. I saw a YouTuber complete the game in a little over two hours.

But most importantly, it left me feeling completely unsatisfied. SteelWool had the chance here to really flesh out the story and the series given what they were working with and I personally feel like they didn't do enough. I think part of the issue for me was, they have this huge building for your to explore, but it feels like there isn't much to do, the game is mostly empty and barren.

That isn't even discussing the technical problems people have been having. There's been plenty of reports of people being unable to simply play the game, other folks are having issues with terrible frame rates, lost saves, all sorts of stuff. I personally haven't had problems with that, what I have had problems with is enemies being able to see and grab me behind walls and other objects.

Some people have said they are considering DLC. Unless there're some promises here to do some awesome stuff, I'm not buying anymore.

I really, really hope this product isn't an indicator of what we can expect from the movie if it ever comes out, if so, maybe this cash cow has finally run out of milk.

honestly, if matpat can manage an entire lore video from this, then color me impressed. idk it just feels so...empty i guess. i mean music man was cool, the sun and moon guy? totally creepy, loved him, although other from the daycare i don't get his purpose outside. didn't really even see vanny. only hint to the other games were the display cases and cardboard cutouts in the front.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. FNAF Security Breach... A game hyped up for 2 years. So how's the final product? Not bad, not spectacular however. The game provides fun, and surprisingly enough, some genuine scares, but there are a few corners of the game that certainly fall flat. As far as positives, it's really fun, with genuine challenge. The style of the building, and animatronic designs are really cool. There is amazing art throughout the whole building. You could tell alot of care was given to the look of the game. Gameplay is fun, admittedly a bit whacky, but it's fnaf so that works. It is unique and sands out. As for mixed and negative, visually the game can look really bad at parts, with pixel-y textures at times. Also the story is kind of lacking. Vanny's appearance's are brief, and could have had more background to it. The therapist tapes are a start, but still could've been more. Voice acting is mediocre for the most part (though there are certainly a few stand outs).

Alot of mixed aspects, a messy game, but pretty fun regardless.

A disappointment was the low resolution text or images which somewhat bothered me but considering this is the new era of gaming should be higher quality. The premise of the game is straightforward having to do tasks to unlock a certain areas to further unlock more story/plot though in the end was kind underwhelming. Like not having a proper boss fight for each animatronic also mentioning the AI for this game is overpowered in a way like teleporting very close to the player. As a whole the game seemed fun to play getting me to see the new generation of FNAF in a huge map filled with secrets, easter eggs, and backstory. I hope for the future game designers and developers as well the whole team to take this into consideration. Though so far, not bad for a FNAF game still not great but reasonably good. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ok Imma give my honest opinion on this game. I'm very mixed on it. First off the bat, the amount of Bugs/glitches in it is insane, but it at least isn't anywhere near as bad as the amount in Cyberpunk 2077 at it's launch. Though the amount is still absurd considering the amount of time they had to finish the game, and then polish it up. And don't get me started on the PS4 version of the game, because on PS4, it currently runs like absolute s***, with the framerate hardly getting anywhere new 20fps, areas never loading in by the time you reach them, huge lag spikes, and enemies constantly teleporting to your location.

Ok, onto the base actual game. Beyond all the technical issues, it's a samewhat good FNAF game. I think the most urgent thing they have to fix concerning enemies is the AI, because it's absolute dogs***. They easily loose track of you, constantly teleport, and when you gain the high ground, they back off. They urgently need to give all enemies in the game a complete redo of the AI. Especially the STAFF bots, because for a starter, there are WAY too many of them, and when u think you've managed to get past one, they'll teleport jumpscare you, where you go up a staircase, and a STAFF bot still at the bottom will still get you, like WTF. Also, they promised that there'd be entirely playable arcades in the game, but in total ONLY 4 ARCADE MACHINES ARE PLAYABLE. Like, they've got numerous huge arcades scattered around, with some having no playable arcade machines at all. It was such a huge missed opportunity to continue with the formula of 8-bit minigames revealing more lore.

Ok, next up, Vanny. WTF happened. She was being hyped up so much to be the main looming threat of the game, but 1. 90% OF HER VOICELINES FROM THE TRAILERS WERE SCRAPPED, LEAVING HER WITH LITERALLY ONLY LIKE 3, and 2. She hardly appears at all, only ever appearing in like 3 scripted sequences. STAFF BOTS ARE MORE THREATENING THAN HER.

Ok, story. They could've done so much more with it. It's extremely apparent that like 80% of the story that was originally going to be in the game was completely scrapped. They had so much cool ideas that they could've built on, like the plot of Vanny killing 9 kids. This only gets revealed to us in one of the endings in a newspaper and that's it. In the first trailer, we hear Vanny state that Gregory's friends are with her, but that was a scrapped line, and a long with that, THERE'S NO MENTION AT ALL OF ANY OTHER KIDS. There could've been such a cool plot line of us trying to save the other kids captured by Vanny, but they didn't do anything with it at all. Also, could've they had come up with a more unique design for Afton in his bossfight?? He's literally just a slightly redesigned Springtrap!! They could've at least taken inspiration from the trash amalgamation in the books. And none of it is given any buildup AT ALL. You just stumble upon the FNAF 6 location, Find Afton in his "new" form, burn him a couple of times while fighting a giant tentacle creature controlled by Molten Freddy that isn't given any explanation at all, and then are given a pre-rendered cutscene of Blob creature pulling Afton away, while Freddy and Gregory escape the burning Pizzaplex, like WTF. They had such important story characters, and hardly did anything with them at all.

I'm a huge FNAF fan, I really am, but it's so hard to recommend this game at all, currently. I'd at least wait 4-6 months when the game is fixed and maybe some cut content is returned with maybe some DLC to expand on the story some more, which the game desperately needs.

In all reality, instead of adding new, fun mechanics to the game, it takes away from what Five Nights at Freddy's is and winds up being not very scary. There are always shimmers of light every now and then just for it to be taken away by the back and forth tasks you do throughout the game. Not to mention the teleporting animatronics and under-used characters such as DJ Music Man. I like the overall design and the plot is intriguing, especially for long time fans of FNAF even if the other aspects don't hit quite right. Conclusively, I think that this game needed more development time and thought of what makes a Five Nights at Freddy's game while still implementing the new mechanics. Expand

FNaF security breach is an enigma of a game. It's the most normal horror game in the series, but a huge departure for the series, as you are now exploring a huge amusements facility called the "Pizzaplex", while running away from the numerous animatronics trying to hunt you down. Most of the game is linear, but there are a couple of split paths and a multitude of endings you can get.

All that sounds well and good doesn't it? A relatively linear exploration horror game with lots of endings and a good amount of alternative and end game content? Well... This is where stuff gets awkward. See, Security Breach is buggy. Very buggy. So buggy that since its release, the game has had a bug fix fixing over 200 issues, and the game is still absolutely swarmed with bugs in every single corner. So buggy that many speedrunners have challenged themselves to beat the game with ridiculous rules like no running or beating the bosses in reverse order. So buggy that in my first casual play through of the game, I managed to get softlocked not once, not twice, but EIGHT individual times through the entire run. I've rarely had a game softlock on me, but to have it happen eight times in a single run through a game is both impressive and pathetic to me.

So why am I rating this game so positively? Firstly, I find glitches and bugs both fascinating and hilarious most of the time, and this game was a treasure chest for such things. Secondly, beyond its buggy code, the actual core game was pretty fun, and had some really effective and enjoyable moments. At numerous times through the game, I felt that the atmosphere was brilliant, or that I would have loved to have a party at the Pizzaplex. While I think it's hard to argue the game is good, I had a lot of fun with it, and I still love going back and just exploring the brilliantly realised environments every now and then.

The biggest downside for me was the insane amount of bugs. I wasted a lot of time because of the bugs and glitches, but i didn't really mind.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game starts of fenomenal. I would say that I though this was my favorite game yet, untill about 1/3 in the game, where the rush is starting to shine, more and more. With loads of (near) finished features, cut from the game, a litteral hundreds of pretty simple glitches and bugs (from which some are easely done in a casual playthough, sometimes even softlocking your savefile), gameplay feeling useless, not explained well and the story having a lot of unplesant holes in it (and I am not talking about necessairy lore secrets), the main ending feeling worse than lackluster, this game is one of the worst experiences I have had in a while.
Though now you might be confused why I still give it a 5 then, the game shines brightly at some moments, it is by far one of the best looking games and most emersive games I have ever seen! In my opinion, this game should have been delayed with another 2 years, and something small inbetween. If the devs didn't announce the game this early in development, then they could just relax, sit back and make the probably bast experience I have ever seen.
There is a lot of cut content, that would have improved the game to a 7.5/8 if they would have just kept it in, there was almost nothing stopping them from keeping these features, since removing them would have taken as long as finishing them.
