while the jumpsacres are undeniably startling ,this cannot save Five Nights at Freddys 4 from its poorly executed gameplay, with a sound mechanic vital to the game completely broken because of garbelled audio, and story which is more convoluted than the matrix

Five Nights at Freddy's 4 is the final chapter in the Five Nights at Freddy's series, together with being the last game, it's also the scariest game in the series as well.

The game is COMPLETELY different in the gameplay than all of the previous games, you don't have a security camera anymore, all you have to defend yourself is a flashlight, to scare the animatronics away.
The gameplay is made in such a way, that you need to focus on the audio cues, making you to concentrate on the game carefully, making you feel like you're a part of it all.
The animations in this game are amazing, everything is now completely fluid, and doesn't feel like they're "laggy" at all.
The graphics and everything are amazing too, it looks like Scott Cawthon put all of his effort into this game.
Now, I'll explain why it is so scary, it's pretty simple. You're a kid, having to defend yourself against the Nightmare Animatronics, in order to do so, you need to move next to the doors, and listen carefully if there are breathing sounds, if there are breathing sounds, you need to shut down the door, and wait 'till you hear footsteps. But you never know if you're safe. If you succesfully defended yourself, or not. The next time you flash the light, might be the time of your death. And during the time you have to shut down the door. If you succesfully defend yourself, you still cannot think calmly. You're still worried an animatronic can come from the door, or the bed, or even the closet. You have to constatly defend yourself, while being scared of the animatronics.
The game is also very good at causing surprise attacks. Things like Foxy's "Failed Jumpscare" is something which makes the game feel a lot more lively, and great. There are also a few nights where you suddenly have to change your strategy, due to something new coming up, making you have a lot of more fright due to the fact of not knowing what to do, due to the extremely creepy looks of the animatronics.
The game also has some small things which made the first game very good, like random, creepy sounds, like Freddy's laugh, dogs barking, and such.
The game also reveals another part of the FNaF story, which is quite sad.

Five Nights at Freddy's 4 is an amazing horror game, which brings together the scariest parts of all the games, turning it into a game with brand new gameplay, creepy animatronics, and everything you need in a good horror game.
I recommend Five Nights at Freddy's 4 greatly, if you did not like the previous games, I would recommend you to pick this one up, as this one will very likely scare the heck outta you.

This game is very overrated. What makes it unique and original FNAF were the cameras, and in this game there is no trace of them. Half of the game are stupid and very low quality minigames. I can give some points for the scares, but after a while become boring and predictable. Scott had done something great, but get carried away by fame and created a waste of epic proportions.

To be brief; it doesn't feel like a FNaF game, it's literally like he got FNaF1, got rid of phone guy and the cameras, changed the settings and added some minigames.

More importantly, the entire franchise makes an attempt to have some sort of weird, deep, twisting mystery behind it. It's a horror story to be sure and as you play the games, bits and pieces of the story get revealed through a number of ways. The rest of this is left up to the game community to speculate on what is actually happening.

Many of us jumped on board with the game because we were intrested in the story, less of the actual game and we hoping that by the end of Five Nights at Freddy's 4, most of the story would be revealed. This couldn't beany further from the truth. The "final" game (and I use that term loosely) barely answers anything, while bringing up even more questions. Scott in all of his glory decided that since the community couldn't unravel the story, that he wasn't going to shed anymore light on it.

That's right, the developer of the franchise, the one that used to be a failure in game development, that used to work at a dollar store, who was lifted from the dirt and pushed into the spotlight by his fan base now refuses to actually elaborate anymore on the story. Talk about a giant middle finger to the people who have financially supported Scott.

Scott has already admitted the first game was supposed to be the only one, but it was so successful, he decided to continue pushing out more games. Given the fact he had no future plans for the franchise and he had to come up with a story, on the spot, I have a feeling Scott threw in a bunch of junk and then allowed the community to come up with theories for his game, essentially doing the writing for him.

It's my opinion that Scott had NO IDEA how to wrap up the games, he had NO IDEA what he was doing and because of that, he bascially refused to explain anything, blaming it on the fans for not being able to "find" all of his clues.

More of an insult, his latest game is simply a different game, using all of the old characters from the first four games. Scott doesn't even respect his fans enough to make an attempt to actually make anything new or unique. Scott is going to continue to milk the furry cash cow until it's all dried up and dead.

Limited gameplay, shallow game mechanics, poor writing, it's almost embarrassing how little effort Scott put into this game, he should be ashamed at how much he has not only milked this franchise, but his "fans". I'll never spend another single penny in support of Scott and none of you should either.

Dubbing this game the "scariest game ever made" is a joke. This was so poorly executed, and offered nothing to the table. The lore, although good, wasn't that special. BioShock had a better story, and games such as Amnesia and Outlast deliver more scares than this. Trust me, it's not worth it.

I'm not a fan of Fnaf. This game changed a lot than other FNAF games, now you can move door to door. I think that the way to avoid the animatronics is very original and smart, you have to hear low breathing, and it makes that you increase the volume and it scares more. but sincerely, it's that boring, same that others game.

    So, it's a 3 for me.

I'm still somewhat unsure how I feel overall about this one. As someone who played the first three and could enjoy them despite their flaws (the third being the least flawed and formulaic/repetitive to play), I just don't know if I can recommend this one.

I'll start by saying that I came out of the third game impressed with how much the creator had improved in game design. You see, one of the major flaws with the first two games was that on harder nights it threw away the mechanic of checking the cameras just to be able to survive. They weren't even necessary in the first place, and those harder nights made it so that you couldn't use them at all without likely dying. So in the third game, he made it so that the cameras were the main gameplay mechanic. Defending against a single animatronic, you had to use the cameras to lure him into different rooms using sound effects. He could also go into vents and then you'd have to close them from the cameras as well. This game and it's mechanics were hands down the best thing in the series. The scares were weak, and you know what? I'm glad they were. Because that's not what it was about. The gameplay was rewarding, tense, and it was probably the game out of the series to do subtlety best.

The fourth one completely threw away the cameras, something great and unique to the series, and replaced it all with one bland and unchanging mechanic: listening. That's basically all you do. Listen closely or screw up and be greeted with an overly loud jumpscare. In the first three, there were audio cues all the same. They helped you. Basically this game just removes everything surrounding the audio cues and leaves you with nothing but them and a couple of other time sinks. Aside from the animatronics which at one point replace the others and behave slightly differently, the core gameplay just doesn't change. Listen for the same sound over and over. If it's there close the door. Check your time sinks. Repeat.

Which game would you rather play: one where you're trapped at the end of a maze and are forced to track down the zombified murderer coming after you so you can lure him away and prolong your death.. all the while having to make sure your systems that allow you to do so stay functional, or one where you just run around in a room doing the same repetitive and uninteresting tasks over and over?

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Although admittedly the Five Nights at Freddy's series has got a reputation for being extremely repetitive, this game mixes up the formula more than any other incarnation of the franchise.

You take the role of an unnamed child in their house, facing PTSD induced nightmares after a traumatic event at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza some time prior. You must use only a torch to fight them off, by flashing the light down hallways. If they are too close, close enough that you can hear them breathing, you must hold the door shut until you hear them leave.

In this game, there is a total of 5 main nights and a bonus sixth night alongside various challenge modes and mini games. Beating the main campaign will unlock the extras menu, where you can do things such as looking at the character models, jumpscares and playing the mini games at any given time.

Overall, this game has got to be one of my favourite horror games, there's plenty to do and a perfect challenge factor, allowing it to be hard enough to make it difficult at times, even for expert players, but also be welcoming to new players, with various tips included in the game and the lack of a steep learning curve.

Five Nights at Freddy's 4 is an incredibly well crafted game, and one well worth checking out.

From the first game to now, the lore hidden behind every detail proofs game developer Scott Cawthon a mastermind at story-telling. I've heard that there is a movie version (adapted by Warner Bros, directed by Gil Kenan) coming up, and I think that this movie would finally break through the cycle of horrible game-to-movie cliche.

I hate the fact that the critics couldn't seem to grasp the detail of what Five Nights At Freddy's really is, one critic even expressed that the mini-games between each nights are unnecessary. Seriously, I think that these critics are only those people who play games for a living and they don't bother to check out the lore in games.

Overall, it is a pleasure to have gone through the wonderful journey of the FNAF franchise universe. However, I do think that the genre of this game should be interactive movie instead of point and click.

The jumpscares in previous installments got stale after the first few times and you would grow immune to them quickly. But not here. The jumpscares got me every single time, and that's because this game did not pull any punches. It revealed new and terrifying characters slowly, and once you think you've got the regular four beaten, it throws a curve ball at you with another more terrifying menace. While the game may have been stripped of the familiar camera system, I applaud its usage of subtle sound cues (They were hard to hear at first, but it's fixed now). It forces you to rely on your ears rather than your eyes, and I love that concept when used in games. The story, while purposely vague and confusing, is the best part to me. That being said, if you weren't a fan of FNAF before, odds are you won't be now unless you enjoy the new system. But I would honestly say, it's a solid entry. It's not FNAF 1, and it's better than 2 and 3. And the story will at least make you think, and wonder in amazement as to how the hell any of it makes sense. If you're not in it for the gameplay, I think you'll be satisfied with the story. Expand

FNAF has basically exploded on the Internet thanks to music videos, Montages and Not Scary videos, but does the series leave up to all the hype? Nope. It still tries the same cheap tricks to try and get a dumb scream out of you with it's dumb jumpscares even in the 4th installment. Scott, just leave this series to rot and die.

If not, you should still play it. As a standalone game, this could be called a childhood terror simulator. We all remember those times we held our breath while checking under the bed for monsters... well, this is that in video game form, without the benefit of "it was just your imagination." It's basically the childlike mind on steroids, dumped on a computer screen. Chances are, after playing it, this game will pop into your head uninvited whenever you crack open a closet door or shine a flashlight down a dark hallway.

If you're looking for some kind of epic, multilayered, three-act saga with advanced controls, sidequests and achievements galore, you came to the wrong place. All you need to control is a flashlight, and your only achievement is escaping this deathtrap (a child's bedroom) with your life.

My usual complaint with the FNAF approach to jumpscares still stands... too over-the-top to for their own good... but I give this one more of a pass because the overly nightmarish aspect fits fine from a child's point of view.

So there is Five Night's at Freddy's 4. The last episode of the franchise that promised to be the most frightening one yet. It truly did what it has promised and I won't lie. I found myself scared at my limit during every night. This is my resumed thoughts about every aspect of the game, both for the mobile and PC versions.

As usual, FNAF series has a deep personality of not telling you anything about what's happening and most of the times this will continue until you completely finish the game. This time is not different. From what we know since we start the game, is that the fourth chapter of the game is, in fact, the very first one, telling us everything that has happened before all the confusion in the Freddy Fazbear Restaurant in Five Nights at Freddy's 2 (that actually takes place before FNAF 1).

The game will tell you the story of a little child and how he almost died on the restaurant after being bite by the animatronic, that a few years later, would be worldwide recognized as the iconic date of the Bite of 87, that has ruined all the image of the restaurant as a whole. The game explains this very well through mini-games after every night survived. At the end, you are left without many questions remaining, but with the feel that it could have been better. The story is a little bit precipitated in their major details, and this compromises the game as a whole.

Five Nights at Freddy's: The Last Chapter is an attempt to remove basically all the previous mechanics that we were used to see in the previous games to make something bigger and scarier to the player. They try to call it the fear of the unknown. The surprised between every monster appearance is crucial to create the horror feeling that makes everyone freeze in their chairs, without knowing what will happen next.

This time, ears will be more used than your eyes. You can't truly know where the monsters are because there is no camera checking, but this doesn't mean that you can't know if they are or not nearby you. Of course that this will not matter after some time, but this still is a very important feature (that is indeed very well used and explored by Scott Cawthon) to survive every hour. The biggest problem about this hearing feature used in the game is that this is accidentally most used in the game to provoke jump scares, and not truly an atmosphere to keep the player deep into the game, immersed while he/she is playing it.

In resume: they are more dangerous, scarier and furious than never before, but the game tries something that has a good potential, but end up by been a jump scare festival (even more than it's predecessors).

You have to hear for when an animatronic is near, which while it is a good idea, it's not used very often during the nights. You also have to check behind you and in a closet, which gives the constant fear of being attacked from behind. The jumpscares are pretty scary this time around, because in some cases, you never know when they'll scare you, which make this game's jumpscares the best in the series. Depending on your jumpscare tolerance, you'll get scared almost every time, but if you know what to expect, you'll never get scared. It's a solid horror experience, and if you enjoy the series, you'll like this game. I can see why some people don't like this game, it can be unentertaining at times, and the fan base is a bit.. rabid to say the least, but the game by itself is still a satisfying experience, and a great conclusion to the FNaF franchise.

    Five Nights at Freddy's 4 gets a 7/10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is different from the other chapters, but that doesn't mean it's bad. Switching from video to audio is a smart decision from Scott, because looking at the cameras for three past parts was getting a bit repetitive. When now the audio has a key role in the game, there's no way you will be able to play it without headphones, or at least speakers (I would recommend headphones). The game itself is a remaster of the first part, with two doors on the left and right side of the house, oh yeah I forgot, If someone haven't figured out by now, we're in a house now and playing as a child (reminds of Among the sleep). In the gameplay you can actually move but only to the doors and back, at the door it's like playing Russian roulette where you look at the abyss of the hallway like in a muzzle of a revolver and listen for breathing sounds, in the end you flash in the hallway and if someone is stepping back in to the shadow... Congrats, you listened carefully and avoided the bullet, if not.. BAM.

The game itself has a somewhat a Boogeyman style now because you try to avoid not normal or broken animatronics but Nightmares, Nightmarish, Twisted versions of Freddy Fazzbear and his little minions with the rest of the crew, and there's also a few new ones in the team as well.

So if you've played the previous three parts and bored of the whole pizzeria and cameras theme, this last part refreshes the franchise anew.

The game is repetetive, especially since there is no camera, but at least it fits the theme of the game and makes you more helpless. The game's scaryness is ok. Despite this however, I feel that this game has the most repetitive gameplay in the series. You are no longer watching cameras but running around a room the whole night. It gets stale very quickly. Another thing I don't particularly like is how loud the jump scares are. It gets annoying because you have to listen very closely and you most likely have your volume turned way up. Yeah it's frightening, but it sacrifices an enjoyable experience as a cost. I know it sounds like I really don't like this game but I do. It is very satisfying when you do beat the game and its extra modes. It's not a bad game but the way its designed needs some work. Expand

When i first watched the trailer of it, i was super excited. It is still my favourite trailer of all of the games. But... the game... Got to say it's my least favourite. I was so curious about how you would have fended off the nightmares. Well, when i saw that you needed to listen for breathing, i was excited at first, but i never actually liked having to crank up my audio to hear the sounds... this actually brings a great fear factor. The anxiety it creates to actually mess up and get jumpscared while having that audio at 90% or more... truly terrifying. The game also gets quite challenging during later nights. You are greeted with an atari-like minigame every time you finish a night that tells the story of a crying child. If you don't know the lore of the game, they might just look like nonsense to you, which sucks.
    Well, that's it.

This game had the best designs out of all 3 of the previous games. The design of the animatronics are really well done and it looks like they had a lot more effort put into making the models more than anything else in the game. People who say this game is “not scary at all” are just hating on the franchise. I am damn sure those who gave it a zero rating haven’t even played the game.

You never know where certain sounds are coming from, the right, left or behind. This keeps your stomach churning throughout the experience. This is my first foray into FNAF and I doubt I’ll finish it because of the feeling of dread playing the game induces in me. But I think that’s what a good horror game should do to a player.

FNAF 4 is an interesting entry in that it is the only game to not be taking place in a "employee in a night shift" scenario. Instead of monitoring animatronics in a professional setting, you are a child in the classic "monsters in my room in the middle of the night" concept that is executed fairly well. All the imaginary animatronics have the most terrifying designs to them replicating very well what it feels to be afraid of monsters that your mind as a child can conjure to create fear. The gameplay has priority emphasis on paying attention to sound. You become desperate to check each location in your room to avoid getting jumpscared as a night progresses.

The jumpscare issue the last game faced is more than resolved here but the gameplay and lore has become rather lacking here with a thirst for more context.

This is not as great as the first, and it does get a bit boring at the middle, but thanks to the amazing story, the amazingly strong jump scares and the frustrating settings and the fifth night, it makes it such an amazing game that I am glad to play.

What I liked about this game was its incorporation of sound and careful listening. And the scare factor, compared to the previous titles, is turned up to eleven.

not as good as the original fnaf but that was to be expected it's a very different game than most fnaf games but still good.

solid atmosphere, but has the best concept of any fnaf game (with a solid execution) and is easily the scariest installment without feeling cheap or cheesy at the same time

FNaF4 differs from the previous games and that’s good. I had a bit more fun with it but it’s still based on jump scares and that’s the least refined technique of scaring. [10/2015, p.73]

The biggest frights of the ever-expanding series without quite the same unease and variety.

FNAF takes a step back, and relies on sound to scare you. It still works, but now your biggest fear would be going deaf because of its loud scare jumps.
