    The perfect way to end the Hydaelyn and Zodiark story. Somehow they managed to top Shadowbringers.

    Final Fantasy XIV is one of the most important franchise games in Square's history, not only in terms of income, but also because of the value that the Final Fantasy saga itself brings. EndWalker is the culmination of 11 years of hard work, of experimenting with all kinds of mechanics, all kinds of stories and characters, which ultimately deliver the best work the company has put out inFinal Fantasy XIV is one of the most important franchise games in Square's history, not only in terms of income, but also because of the value that the Final Fantasy saga itself brings. EndWalker is the culmination of 11 years of hard work, of experimenting with all kinds of mechanics, all kinds of stories and characters, which ultimately deliver the best work the company has put out in the last 20 years. All the characters have their due end, all the villains and everything that we have learned since we joined the Scions of the Seventh Dawn has concluded. Personally, the villain of this expansion was a bit of my duty, but that's mostly because I adored Emeth-Selch as a well-written antagonist in ShadowBringers. From then on, this expansion does not introduce many new things to the lore of the franchise, but rather tries to close the ends of all the subplots that we have lived through. Yes there are new things or rather things that we did not know to date, but everything is an expansion of what was already presented before. The dungeons and trials are the best in the game, with an incredible soundtrack that adds new songs and remixes of what you've heard before that leaves you tied to the chair. All the classes of the game are very well balanced and all are fun to play, there is no one that is above the other, it depends on the tastes of the player and how they decide their experience to be. The cutscenes have improved a lot compared to those static scenes with emotes that we had in A Realm Reborn. Final Fantasy XIV on a 10/10 as a J-RPG and as an MMORPG. Congratulations and I hope you enjoy the ending as much as I did.… Expand

    Epic, just epic. Endwalker MSQ is all about fan service. Thank you Yoshi and your team, your passion and love towards 'game' and its player base is really there. I cried many times during story line but final cry was because everything just got too overwhelming..

    This is my best RPG game from my perspective. I have played this game over 8 years, without any doubt, this game is part of my life. although I'm very busy sometimes, I often log in this game and visit my house and my company. Yoshida could just end the MSQ in a more ordinary way, but he didn't

    Not only one of the best MMOs I've ever played, but I think it might be my new top game of all time. A story that more than rivals traditional cinematic experiences, because you're given time to become attached to several characters. I didn't want to hope that that they could top ShB, but they somehow managed it... their whole team deserves a raise, but particularly their writers.     A true masterpiece of videogame story telling with engaging gameplay that builds on 10 years of experience.

    While the engine may now be dated and the start of the game remains slow, FFXIV is not simply the MMO to play right now but possibly the RPG most worth playing too.

Each expansion is essentially the next novel in the series, continuing not only an expansion themed story, but also an overarching metaplot that develops one step at a time.     "Shadowbringers" was highly evaluated, so I was worried that this work could be connected well and that the foreshadowing could be completed and the finale could be reached.
    After finishing to the end, the BGM and the story were all better than expected and it was the best.
    We thank all the staff of FF14 for their efforts. thank you.

    Only this i can say , Endwalker is a masterpiece of storytelling.

    Advice for new Player : Dont skip cutscenes , get yourself invested in the story. Dont buy leveling Potions or storybooks from mogstation to skip leveling or expansions, if its your first character. Endwalker will not have the same impact on you , as it did for me if you skip the expansions and its storys. If your not in to "lots of cutscenes" and storytelling , then this is probably not a game for you.    … Expand

    Starting 3 months ago, this has been an exceptional journey. After giving up MMOs two years ago, this has been a gift, being one of the best stories in gaming history and showing that even MMOs can have a wonderful story and incredible gameplay. Especially standing-out the Trial Fights, Job Mechanic and Phase-based Music!

    One of the best addons ever made. The only downside are the queue's but its normal when the game got rushed by the world of warcraft community. Its a really good game and the best MMORPG right now!

    The gameplay feels way more fluid, can't tell if it's because of the gcd changes or not.
    Graphics wise they really improved since Shadowlands, which can be felt on my fps.

    Feels like the story of some characters just either got the cut, or the devs were not really sure what to do with them anymore. To mention one, Zenos. I love that character since the first time. They gave him like 10 minutes of screen time in the whole journey? He was supposed to be one of the mayor points of the expansion..

    Hands down the best story of any game I've ever played. I did not think they could match the quality of Shadowbringers, but they actually somehow blew it away. The new jobs are super fun and the changes to current ones are excellent as well.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. In a incredible tour de force; Endwalker manages to proceed to a rather satisfactory ending. While it isn't without fault; and its' foundations may even be a little too shaky or rocky given it's newest antagonist, the introduction of Dynamis (lampshaded or not aplenty without a proper name until now), and a few questions or new questions on prior elements like Time Travel; it performs incredibly well.

    I will say that Mare Lamentorum's second-half, and Labyrinthos had weak points within them (primarily the Loporrits), and Garlemald took a smidge to set-up, but otherwise the plot proceeded with characteristic aplomb. Though a touch heavy-handed, the expansion begins immediately to build upon the core theme that will run through it's course.

    Is life meaningful?

    In this regard; I found there to be pay off for years of playtime, acknowledgement of investiture, and a fitting conclusion to all that came prior.

    Alphinaud and Alisaie obtain their own subplot and grow just a little bit more. Urianger too has a strong plot.

    G'raha Tia and Estinien both have great moments as well with their own flavorful charms.

    Thancred's arc resolved in Shadowbringers, but the threat ahead does eventually reach home with him.

    And even Y'shtola, who is by far one of the least-developed of the Scions, claims some moments to her pile of treasures.

    Krile astoundingly has a stake in the plot once more, and Tataru shines in an unforeseen way.

    Zenos will be polarizing, but I believe we've seen at the very least; a taste of what his writing led toward. Simple, but fun.

    And of the questions of Hydaelyn and Zodiark; well...

    If you believe that the story has a clear-cut ending in which you embark to slay a God of Darkness, and then put down a tyrannical Goddess of Light...

    You would be mistaken. It's an easy assumption and many would presume to be the natural path.

    Endwalker endeavors to go beyond the anticipated and expected to provide something more succinct and more fulfilling.

    Every encounter is akin to a Final Boss; and the stakes have never been higher. A hackneyed saying, true, but I believe FFXIV has reached an apex.

    From here on, the threats will need to, on some level, deescalate. Even the hinted at 'Void Expansion', that looms in the distance; while grand in scope, shouldn't surpass the grandiose endeavor we've just wrought forth.

    That said; the feeling of an ending does not eclipse the future. A rather hamfisted bit of dialogue, albeit touching, does ensure that the future of FFXIV is without a doubt, endless and boundless. That between the remaining worlds, and the untold tales within the Source, we've only scratched the surface. Let alone things like meddling in history's flow, or alternate timelines.

    And so to that end; I am excited in a new way.

    The ending was tremendous, and in a few fashions, I feel it was shackled. Shackles it wore without shame, but bound by what it built.

    Now the game is free to tell a new story, a new plot, a new overarching grand tale that can head in any avenue it so wishes.

    That said; the game's age will undoubtedly arise. And at this, the most delicate of junctures, a transition will transpire.

    14 may be in it's golden age, and time will tell if this expansion will usher in the next with applause and more players than before, or if we begin to see the the end of this MMO's grand sprawling journey.

    But what can be said, in the here and now...

    The ride took many risks. And I believe for the majority, it will pay off.

    For the road we've walked to get this far, was nothing but delightful. Worth it. And fulfilling nearly every step.    … Expand

    The story told here rivals the best shows and games out there from every possible perspective. What an incredible experience this is; one which you get to share with NPCs you care about and real life friends. This is what a MMORPG was always meant to be.

    There's plenty of laughter and tears along the way, and Endwalker manages to send off the Zodiark and Hydaelyn saga on an incredibly high note. Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker is a real crowdpleaser, and it should also leave everyone hopeful for what the future has in store for the MMORPG, even if this expansion is going to be incredibly difficult to top.

    The game cannot be played without waiting 4+ hour with chance of random disconnect during that time and you need start the queue all over again. So unless you have all day of free time AND willing to waste hours waiting, do not even consider this game.

    What a masterpiece of a finale. I went into this expansion thinking "Well, it probably won't match Shadowbringers but I'm sure it'll still be good" and by the end of it, it's completely blown Shadowbringers out of the water for me. I can't wait for New Game+ to be added so I can do this again.

    Im 37, played all the major titles. This is the best FF story ever told. I feel Final Fantasy has been asking a question all these years, and Endwalker is the first title to provide an answer.

    A wonderful and satisfying conclusion for this long lasting adventure. Touching and filled with many details and references. Starting slow this expansions story speeds up after a short time and delivers a high quality game with beautiful visuals, music and storytelling.

    early on it's more of a "best of all previous expansions mix", .. and has some pacing issues (like the lv 88 quests, besides to few action bits between some lengthy quest & story parts), but later it still delights and becomes it's own unique experience, tying up the storyline from ARR (or rather    overall, EW is a magnificent expansion and the biggest sofar (in size & story scope)! ...
    early on it's more of a "best of all previous expansions mix", .. and has some pacing issues (like the lv 88 quests, besides to few action bits between some lengthy quest & story parts), but later it still delights and becomes it's own unique experience, tying up the storyline from ARR (or rather even from 1.0) lovely and in some unexpected ways

    Imo only Shadowbringers is overall still a tick better (perfect pacing, with many fresh flavours, emotions & characters) ..., but EW is still magnificent in its own ways too, with a lot of content & story!

    Was incredibly skeptical they'd be able to top Shadowbringers but I think they somehow managed. Incredibly satisfying wrap-up to an almost decade-long story that clearly has an incredible amount of care put into it.

    Completed the MSQ and cleared all the current combat content available before raids, and I must say, what an experience I just had, not just the best end I could possibly ask for the 10 yo story arc that initiated back in 1.0 but everything, the zones are realy beautiful, the music is one of the best I ever heard, the cutscenes are well directed, and the boss fights are one of best in theCompleted the MSQ and cleared all the current combat content available before raids, and I must say, what an experience I just had, not just the best end I could possibly ask for the 10 yo story arc that initiated back in 1.0 but everything, the zones are realy beautiful, the music is one of the best I ever heard, the cutscenes are well directed, and the boss fights are one of best in the game, we can realy feel that the devs keep improving by learning from prior mistakes, and to be honest yeah the Queues are big, but sincerely its not that huge of a deal, SQEX is even offering 7 free days of sub to everyone that is currently playing and might offer more depending of how long the issues remain.… Expand

    I'm playing FFXIV since ARR. This expansion is marvelous. The story, the music, the dungeons and trials. The new jobs are fantastic. How did they manage to outdo themselves?

    I'm really thankful to SE and Yoshi P and his team, for they have given us such a great game to enjoy.

    Just started to play this game in July 5th, and here i am - having 1500+ hours already - i'm in my 3rd X - with my husband, and we got blown away by how well made this game is and why haven't we started playing this sooner.
    We had much hopes for Endwalker and after finishing it I must say that yes, it succeeded on being even better than SHB (and it was already amazing), but I haven't had    Just started to play this game in July 5th, and here i am - having 1500+ hours already - i'm in my 3rd X - with my husband, and we got blown away by how well made this game is and why haven't we started playing this sooner.
    We had much hopes for Endwalker and after finishing it I must say that yes, it succeeded on being even better than SHB (and it was already amazing), but I haven't had so many feeling over a game for many many years, then this one.

    The zones are beautiful the duty content is engaging. I'm looking forward to everything to come in future updates. The MSQ story is amazing. I've always liked the story they tell but to see so many years of stories and journeys coalesce and come together in the Endwalker 6.0 MSQ story has completely captured my heart in a way that no other had previously.    Engaging and breathtaking.

    The zones are beautiful the duty content is engaging. I'm looking forward to everything to come in future updates.

    Pretty much everything in this expansion is top notch. Excellent pacing, beautiful locales, interesting new NPCs, superb music score, wonderful cinematography and voice acting.. and best of all, a story that is unexpected and yet so captivating and satisfying. I found myself playing hours on end just to find what happens next in the story.

    As an MMO this is one of the best expansion's I've touched in the genre, with quality of life improvements that are sure to keep the hype rolling through the games future updates.

    The real meat, however, comes in the form of the games RPG side. A narrative and thematic masterpiece that the gaming world hasn't seen since Bioware's golden age.

    Seriously though, the amount of connected threads over the years and plot points is so impressive I dont think I have ever seen this amount of great execution in all my gaming years/out of all media.

    Amazing how this game keeps getting better and better. Every aspect of the game has reached its peak in Endwalker. Dungeons and trials are visually astonishing and have very solid and fun gameplay mechanics. The quality of the music is off the charts and the story is as beautiful as ever. The best MMO you can play right now.

    Endwalker is an epic ending to an epic tale. Visuals and music are on point, and somehow they managed to top shadowbringers in terms of story. It's incredible how it surprises you, when the story delivers the best moment yet they give you a moment to breathe and process just to deliver an even better moment after.     Truly this is a masterpiece of fiction. If you've played from the start, Endwalker delivers absolutely everything you could wish for from the game, and it is the best story experience I have ever had from any form of media in 37 years.

They not only surpassed my expectations, they set a ridiculously high new standard for story-telling, not just for video games, but all media beyond.     The only bad thing about this expansion is, it has some fat that need to be trimmed in the MSQ. Other than its perfect, especially the music.

    What an incredible experience. The story is so full of details and so well rounded that it takes a while to be even be able to fully appreciate.

    The trials and dungeons are incredibly fun and full of new mechanics.

    I cannot express how beautifully this expansion ties together the entire journey i've been on all these years, if you're at the point of reading Endwalker reviews and you are still considering "trying" ffxiv, I dunno what else i can tell you, its a journey you need to start for yourself, theres a lot of us here who can only say, its worth your time.

It's due to external events, the real world is in a crazy state right now due to supply chain issues for server hardware. To mitigate this, I wish Square Enix would embrace cloud technologies (such as Google Cloud Platform) to manage some of the services (not the full game servers, but some backend services subjected to high loads, such as the lobby servers). Yes, cloud is expensive, but maybe you flick it on when the load gets too high and handle the rest on-premises. I doubt it's more expensive than the negative experiences that paying customers are having, and I'm sure they could model this into their budget (when they need to pay for its use, it's because subscription sales are WAY up).    … Expand

    Honestly, just wow. It amazes me how well they're able to tell a story that's been ongoing for a decade now. If you just play FFXIV for the story alone and never did any of the other types of content, you would still be getting your money and times worth, AND THEN SOME!

    As far as MMOs go, and I've played them for over 20 years, this is the penultimate creation currently available in the genre. It is not the BEST at each part but it is excellent at all of them and the story being 10/10 letting stand alone as just a good FF game by itself is a grand feat. Absolutely awesome.

    Couldn't hope for a better end to 10 years worth of story. To have a decade of memories come rushing back throughout the story all wrapped around excellent dungeons and boss fights. My only regret is I can see it once for the first time.

Error code 2002 is the ultimate boss fight in this game, and good luck beating that unless you have something set up to keep you afk all day in game. Don't even bother paying a sub or wasting your money on this game.     Best MMO i've played in my entire life, the story is impecable and tear dropping, cinematics are on point, raids and dungeons are gorgeous and fun, glamour system is the best i've seen for character personalization and expresion, emotes too are awesome, the comunity is the best i've seen in any game and to top it off, you can play for free to level 60.

    This expansion really tied all the loose ends and completed a story many years in the making. I've been playing with my husband since 2013 and it has been a wild ride. I was extremely impressed with Shadowbringers, and Endwalker has equally met my expectations. It makes you really feel for the characters and gives your own character some importance as a friend rather than just the hero. The new classes Reaper and Sage play fantastic and feel intuitive. The music is amazing as usual and the new teleporter hud is really nice and helpful.     The story and scenery is just art! The last zone you experience is just beautiful, plain and simple. It still has all the great content people have come to love over the years as well but they still seem to improve upon what they create through adjusting to player feedback.

    WoW. While this has some gameplay issues with the new added quest archetypes it in no way detracts from the final product. The story this time around is longer but it picks up oddly faster ( around lv 83 ) and it never slows down. The dungeons and Raids are all amazing and the music, oh the music. Soken is a genius. Endwalker is a must play.

    Outside of the unfortunate queue times, when viewing the game outside of this the game is once again an easy 10. Some story elements felt somewhat rushed but not even that could blemish the game that FF14 has become.

    All the expansions in the FFXIV series further improves themselves with RPG elements, exposition, and proper story telling and content. In Shadowbringers, most would assume that was the peak in story telling and for good reason. It was a great expansion.

    Endwalker somehow manages to perfect everything that Shadowbringer did good, with a very good finale and nearly everything is on point.

Despite having finished the expansion three days ago, I can still scarcely believe that I went on such an incredible adventure. Before I played Endwalker, Shadowbringers was what I considered to be the pinnacle of not just the MMO experience, but gaming in general. No more can I hold fast to that view. Endwalker builds on what on the foundations and techniques used in previous expansions in such an ingenious way. Every cutscene invokes countless feelings within the player. The combat does not feel forced and is used in a way that makes narrative sense, none of that "We're on a journey to save the world but first, kill those 3 snakes barring our path".

    I'll refrain from commenting on the balance of the jobs, as of the time of this review I've only played Summoner to 90 and Sage to 84. While I won't say anything too explicit, I will say that Job balance is rarely a concern for FFXIV. If any large discrepancies between jobs appear, I've no doubt that they will be addressed and patched quickly. FFXIV Is well known for its soundtracks composed by the now-legendary Masayoshi Soken and once more, they do not disappoint. With a mix of re-vamped songs used previously in the game, to breath-taking new zone music. There have been several times where I've just stopped what I was doing so that I could fully immerse myself in Soken's latest masterpieces.

    While I've spoken of the many positives, as you'll learn from playing Endwalker, only through contrast can you divine true meaning. So as to stay faithful to that declaration, I shall endeavour to talk of the negatives. That said, there really is not much that comes to mind when I try to do so. In fact, the only negative I can think of at the moment is the fact that the queues, at least on my server, are constantly several thousand players large. Which in turn, means that If I want to play then I have to start getting ready 4/5 hours beforehand. I do not blame Square Enix for this queue issue as due to Covid-19, there is a Semiconductor shortage so acquiring adequate server space is simply not feasible, regardless of how much they try. These queues have been consistent since Endwalker's early access came out over a week ago. While this is a shame, especially to those that have less flexible schedules. It also goes to show just how much people are enjoying their time playing Endwalker.

    If a non-FFXIV player gets to the end of this review then I'd strongly recommend them to play this game, I can promise you that it is a decision you will not regret. I know I do not need to make the same recommendation to any current FFXIV fans, especially if they've played Shadowbringers as I've no doubt they're either playing Endwalker or preparing to embark on this brilliant final chapter to a decade long story.    … Expand

    Natsuko Ishikawa has truly transcended as a writer with these past 2 expansions, and the music by Soken is top notch as usual.
    Each expansion they prove people wrong who think that they will never outdo their previous success, I hope they can keep this trend going. The only negative I can think of for this    Somehow Endwalker made the already amazing story of Shadowbringers even more so.

    I have been playing this game for a couple of years now. Started around the start of Shadowbringers.
    When i went into the game i had low expectations as i was very new to the final fantasy genre.

    And when i reached Shadowbringers, which i thought was the studios "Magnum Opus", i was blown away by how amazing a story could be written.

    This game is perfect for me. The gameplay is fun, the story is one of the best i have experienced so far, and i have made friends for life. The music is legendary.

    Endwalker... was for me as a long time fan, and as a player who was gone through all the of story.. the perfect "ending" to the arc. The gameplay upgrades, the new abilities, the music, the new zones, the new enemies, the atmosphere, the story... Again.. The story and narrative... is godlike..

    I have never cried so hard to a game before, partially because of the story and game itself... but because of the way it made me care and invest myself.. Which is something i havent experienced before. I was so sad when i was to do the last quest.. that i sad and just... stared at it. I really didnt want to finish it.. knowingly that i was going to complete a year long journey..

    And even as i sit and cry as i write this.. The developers tell you through characters that is not the end. I have never had so much respect for a company before.

    It is perfect for me, simply perfect.

    There is a free trial of the game, for the base game and first expansion... basically months of content... completely free.

    I would always recommend doing that first. As i know that some people cant handle paying a subscription for a game, which is completely fine..

    But i would gladly pay my sub, for the rest of my life with a smile on my face. If it means that i will get as golden and perfect content like this expansion.    … Expand

    Yoshida and his team know what we like, what we want, what we do. They did the impossible yet again, doing an expansion better than the previous one.

    It only needs one thing to reach true perfection : graphical update. The engine is old (PS3 era I believe) and it brings its fair share of PS3-like issues (pixelated shadows, aliasing, blurriness etc). But everything on the side is so good it doesn't matter much, you either live with it or force SSAA to fix it. (Don't bother with MSAA forced through GPU's control panel, the game doesn't support it)    … Expand

    FFXIV is currently the best MMORPG available. The main reason is because it’s RPG first, MMO second. The story isn’t just an afterthought, but an integral part of the experience, and everything else revolves around the tale of the Warrior of Light. It’s logical, well-planned, and presented with great, voiced (or not) cut-scenes.
