    This version of FIFA 18 is the first one that I have played since FIFA 15. I sometimes play games where I barely manage like 1 shot the entire game online which made me wonder if I was trash. Then I just changed the custom tactics to 90+ everything (aggression, width, etc) and hey ho its a miracle, I start winning games and the stamina of the players never goes down. With such tactics theThis version of FIFA 18 is the first one that I have played since FIFA 15. I sometimes play games where I barely manage like 1 shot the entire game online which made me wonder if I was trash. Then I just changed the custom tactics to 90+ everything (aggression, width, etc) and hey ho its a miracle, I start winning games and the stamina of the players never goes down. With such tactics the players should be dead by HT.

    I dont even enjoy winning games like that as I prefer to play a passing type game. You just need pace and high pressure to win games on FIFA 18.

    Also another thing I am completely annoyed by is the number of times I try to play a through ball into the channel and the ball is almost always played in the direction opposite to the empty space. Even worse is the fact that the defenders are so retarded they dont even stop that through ball and my striker runs through on goal. Its ridiculous.    … Expand

    Each year we are facing with the same issue, EA sports releases a new version of FIFA which is partially or completely broken. The game comes out to release with such bugs that it is impossible to play. People pay for the game 50-100$, and receive a product that does not work. People tolerated it for years, but sooner or later it has to end.

    This year a new version of the game has surpassed all it's predesestors. And a huge part of the community received a completely broken mode Pro Clubs. Critical bugs that not allow to play friendly games between teams and stopped all the international tournaments held in every country of the world. Hundreds of thousands of players spend 2-3 hours of their time to play only one game each evening struggling with the broken mechanics.And these efforts do not always guarantee success. Almost 2 months as EA sports knows about this issue. It released 4 patches to the game, and not one of them did solve this problem. Players tested all possible reason and the occurrence of this error, reported all this information to support, but they do nothing.

    They spend their resources to repair the small problems of the game modes which bring them money for the donation. But it seems they forget that we already paid for the game, and had to get a quality product. We will do our best to make our voice heard and make executives who are responsible for what is happening respect their customers and players.     So, in 2018, you don't have a network filter in H2H mode. It doesn't care matching players from Spain with russians even though there's 300ms ping between the two players.

    Like every FIFA, when you buy it on launch, the gameplay feels great and it won't take more than 3 weeks to be screwed. The AI gets a huge boost and will do all the defending job for the players. All the matches will then look the same.

    This is basically a counter attack simulator for casual players. 9 players out of 10 play the same. They don't defend, they sprint all game long and solely rely on coward tactics (like park the bus) and button mashing in order to score.

    Now, combined with the aforementioned lack of network filter you can add the fact that there are tons of players that just can't run the game at designed speed. So, no hardware filter as well.

    Those factors result in huge stutters, freezes, players turning like trucks, passes going to the wrong players and so on and since the updates ruined the gameplay, there's no skill gap anymore. You're basically failing easy things due to the **** latency.

    People in Div. 1 play as badly as in Div. 7, just with more lag and worse hardware. They're basically cheating their way to win games by spamming the same stuff all game long, waiting for the latency to screw something up. You can light a candle every time you see a skill move. There's a learning curve but it's not needed in order to win, so people happily play hilariously bad.

    Another issue: you can play the same player at different hours and monitor latency both times. The latency won't change. Yet, the game will fill different at peak hours with disgusting latency. I assume EA is adding artificial lag so that noobs spend more in the P2W mode. Why would you try to buy Cristiano Ronaldo if you can't score a goal with a 86+ rated team against a 79 one ?

    You can use PeerBlock so as to to filter countries and game-altering cheaters you've already wasted time (Their IP use port UDP 3659 at the time of the matchmaking) with but there's no perfect solution.

    You can play actually good games where skill matters instead of this piece of crap too.

    So, if you're an unskilled casual player and don't like to defend, this game is for you. If you want to win against technical players with a brain, make sure to have bad ping and a bad computer as well and use park the bus + counter attack tactics. You'll score ****ty goals and be happy. Don't forget to let the celebrations and replays in order to frustrate them all the more.

    And don't get good at it, or you will face rage quitters 2 matches out of 3 !    … Expand

    That's basically the tactics of many players, there's no need to go through the last line of defense, just shoot, and after a few attempts you'll score.
    The advantage rule is dumb as hell, there's no logic to it besides "if the ball is still in your legs for the next 3+ seconds", the opponent can make a few passes until you take the ball away, and then suddenly the referee whistles for the foul. Or you pass a great long ball but then the referee whistles because the game thinks that you have lost the ball after getting the advantage rule, while you were about to go 1 on 1. And stuff like that happens EVERY single game.
    Then, either I don't understand something or it seems like the faster you try to pass, the slower the pass will be. Even when an opponent player is close and you need the pass to be strong. It's like those passes are made by a 5 years old kid who can't give a solid pass in a 10 meters distance, so the opponent is easily taking the ball away.
    The receiver is also dumb and will look at the ball crawling to him instead of getting closer to it.
    There are many other dumb things with passing, you can point the pass into one direction where 2 players might be standing, 1 completely free, second is behind an opponent. Who will get the pass? the opponent, because there's 0 login to the AI to help and understand obvious decisions.

The simulation part is atrocious, the gameplay doesn't feel right and FIFA 18 doesn't innovate over it's predecessor. The only improved part is the visual aspect, which still doesn't add much to the shallow experience.

    Most of the time, the most frustrating part is the AI scripting as obvious as it is. It is acceptable for a deserving loss, which can be a tactical loss such as using the wrong formation or using the wrong player for the game. But AI scripting is suppressing your overall 90 player, making all the incorrect passes and shots throughout the whole game or until the Ai scores.

    EA should stop making FIFA games and instead let our company takes over the job (obviously, this wouldn't happen because the money is too good). In the end, EA don't listen at all and clearly blinded for the need for more money for the years to come.    … Expand

    We have the ball defying the basic laws of physics...
    Goalie's simply not moving when the ball is coming towards them from a distance... I literally had a ball bounce off a goalies head and into the net as he stood there like a statue... it was hilarious!
    Goalkeepers are laughably terrible.
    Defending is near impossible.
    Maneouvering players feels like steering a boat in syrup.
    bump into another player and they go hurtling backwards.
    General control is clunky, heavy and very sluggish.

    AVOID at all costs...

    If you are silly enough to buy then then don't go via a third part (ie cdkeys)... you wont be able to get a refund!    … Expand

People tolerated it for years, but sooner or later it has to end.

    This year a new version of the game has surpassed all it's predesestors. And a huge part of the community received a completely broken mode Pro Clubs. Critical bugs that not allow to play friendly games between teams and stopped all the international tournaments held in every country of the world. Hundreds of thousands of players spend 2-3 hours of their time to play only one game each evening struggling with the broken mechanics.And these efforts do not always guarantee success. Almost 2 months as EA sports knows about this issue. It released 4 patches to the game, and not one of them did solve this problem. Players tested all possible reason and the occurrence of this error, reported all this information to support, but they do nothing.

    They spend their resources to repair the small problems of the game modes which bring them money for the donation. But it seems they forget that we already paid for the game, and had to get a quality product. We will do our best to make our voice heard and make executives who are responsible for what is happening respect their customers and players.     - Kick-off. This version has a "bonus", where your players are becoming total idiots after you have scored. So it is no problem for opposite team to score right after you.
    - UT packs. You can pay 1000$ or more, but you will get players that cost nothing (can earn this coins in one game).
    - Customer Support. They can ignore customers for months, they are not interested in your opinion, they can give only scripted answers. They can even close chat with you, just because they can.

    So, if you buy this game, be ready that you are going to play the game, where developers don't respect you at all, and your game progress doesn't depend on you - scripts decide it. But you will enjoy graphics and thousands of real players.    … Expand

    What a mess this game is, returning to Fifa 17 this year. Too many bugs and problems that make it unplayable. This will be the last Fifa I buy! EA focus too much on the multiplayer side of the game and the career mode just feels neglected.

    Fifa 18 is the best football game that we have seen in our life. Pes 2018 is a very good game but fifa 18 is super. Carreer, you also can manage a lot of national teams, the journey etc...

    This Fifa is the best fifa ever. The physic of the ball and players is fantastic. A lot of licenses, a lot of teams and events. Pes is ugly if you play fifa before.

    Slick presentation, animations are well done.

    Complaints about defending are by those that can't anticipate runs or understand positioning.

    They've done some great work with the AI this year. Your players make more intelligent runs so you can get some great moments when playing the ball through.

    Sure, there are a few oddities, but nothing that warrants a zero score review on here.

    Yeah I like, it is better than Fifa 16 (i dont play 17). After 1st update (3/10/20117), when goalkeepers, long-range shots, radar and nets have been fixed, it is balanced - finally. Graphic is awesome, sound either. Defending is weird, but it is a habit. Online cooperative mode is fun. Maybe difficult is strange. But it is shame that commenting is still the same, year after year - but IYeah I like, it is better than Fifa 16 (i dont play 17).     This year Fifa is better than other editions of the past. Carreer mode is super. During the match all things are improved. Fantastic gameplay and superb graphic. IA is clever, and if you play at champion difficulty is just pretty difficult.

    Men, do not joke! This fifa wins hands low on any other edition. It is great. If there are any negative reviews of some idiot, it depends on the fact that they are fanboy of BC, which is still a good football game, nothing more.

    The journey was a fun introduction to the series, but it got boring fast last year. This year it's even worse, I would like to see better writing, but this is a sports game and I don't mind the story being cheesy. However, it doesn't make sense this time around. It's such pandering to the US market it's sickening. In FIFA 17 I started with a small club thinking I would be able to get transferred to any big club in the world, but nope it was completely scripted, so I was stuck at Watford. This time I wouldn't get burned so as an AMC I signed for Manchester United. Real Madrid is a great club, but I don't care for them irl, so it felt awkward being forced to leave United, and I was glad the deal fell through. The game goes on and the scripted event starts being 3-0 down. My difficulty settings were set way too low and I scored 6 times after coming on. But somehow the story acted as if the poor performance was my fault even though we won 6-3 after being behind. Those are things that happen in a scripted story, and I could somewhat live with that. But then the **** starts, the game pretending a first team player of United only has LA Galaxy giving a way out? Then pretending Galaxy are some kind of super squad with overrated players, Van Damme being a monster in defence while he now has a hard time making the squad for a small team in Belgium... It just doesn't make sense. Oh and never mind that after the American adventure I was transfered to Atletico Madrid, the club of my dreams while Real being the club of my dreams 6 months earlier. (Do these devs even understand football) I did like the implementation of the womens game though, but on a whole it's a dud again. And frustrating as the entire game, it could have so much better if wasn't as scripted.

    So on to the game itself, controlling a full team, it feels the same as always, decent enough, but it never feels like a real football game. it's a game of one-two, threaded pass and speed your way to the goal. You have to force yourself to make it exciting. And this has been the case for years. I played PES 2018 a bit and the difference in playing the game is unbelievable. It's a shame PES isn't nearly as polished, has crap commentary, menus, graphics, licenses, ... so it's hard playing that game, but boy do they know how to make the gameplay fun and not nearly as grindy as fifa. This has been so frustrating for years, give me the gameplay of pes in the fifa polish and we would have the perfect football game. Fifa has copied so many controls of pes, but still unable to copy the core game, and it's a shame. And we're talking about 10+ years of the same complaints.

    There's one major complaint I have with the fifa polish, the end of the season is still infuriating. During your championship games, there's still way too little indications to know if you're going to be crowned champions or not. It can't be that hard to implement more tension in those last couple of games. Now you have to wait to the final whistle and hope the commentary and the cutscene start. Also make sure that the last games of the season are played at the same time. Last game of the season I won and was 2 points ahead of Real, but somehow real had still a game to play after that. I got an email to inform me of winning the championship... This isn't right.

    So all in all it's a decent game, but if there's one series that could benefit from taking a couple of years off, build the core gameplay from the ground up, it's fifa. EA Sports, you have a great example in PES on how the game can flow, so please use it for a change. Unfortunately reality tells me this isn't going to happen with a moneycow like this, but I'm done giving out high scores for minimal development. I can't stand it this game is horrid and i know they are scanning faces and all but how can they make game still look so bad ? Human skin has sub surface scattering and reflection this has neither and looks bland . I was amazed to see how low the score is here and I can see that most are copy paste reviews but it's deserved I took my time to write how bad it is . I am hoping PES will up their game but i doubt that as well.

    This might be a good game, if you can launch it.

    And good luck with that, I've managed to start it in 1/20 tries. Can't wait for the next 100, and all that quality time on Google that seems to come with the EA experience.

    From the small glimpses I've seen, FIFA 18 doesn't look too bad...in videos.

    FIFA did not go on the revolution path of this year, it took a perfectly thoughtful evolution. Thanks to a few small innovations game is funnier, and no one can curse it for only pulling the money out of your pocket. [Issue#280]
