Fifa 14, exactly the same as its predecessors has created an immensely powerful and perfect football game engine but then dumbed it down to appeal to the teen 'football hero'. As a result, and despite their desire to slow the game down and introduce more of a tactical and team play element, the same failings continue to appear in the game. The 'quick win' elements of using assists to place a pass or chip inch perfect to a player would be less insufferable if the defensive AI intelligence wasn't one brain cell away from a Geordie girl. Basic positioning, tracking, marking - things that a footballer learns in school seem to be lost and this is known and exploited by players who want to 'win at all costs' rather than play attractive football.

I can only hope that Konami recover their position as they appear to be the only hope for having someone create a game that appeals to real footballers and not simply kids who want to exploit a game engine to give them some bizarre sense of achievement when they chip in their 100th goal using exactly the same method they have for every other one.

Only idiots pay 50 dollars for an update. The developers want us to pay their sleeping this year. They have to show less greed next year. Yes it is the best Football game so far but it still needs more care.

Sure, the game has alot going for it, but there is no sense of fun playing this game! I don't know why. I love the fifa games! But this one just made me mad The graphics were awful, I experienced glitches and I agree with Sjago, I think they should have implemented the new engine! I seriously hope they make a better one.
    Please make a better one.

The Fact, that EA decided not to implement the new engine is pretty laughable. The graphics are nowhere near the console version, overall it feels like im playing a 2008 game. Yes i know, graphic isnt everything, but personally i enjoy a realistic looking football game rather than this piece of old technology.

Overall, this feels like a minor update compared to Fifa 2013.

I'm disappointed, the game tries to be realistic but unfortunately can not. Defenders give bicycle kick all the time, and this was what irritated me most, apart from that, try to be more realistic, just leaving the game boring and bland, if I want extreme realism in a game of soccer, I would go to a stadium, would not pay for a game that owes much.

    This isn't football.

When you look at the evolution of this game, each time they make a new one, they fix some problems and they create new ones, some of this broken mechanics are hard to understand since they were fixed in the previous game, it's like they break the game on purpose so people go buy the next one in the hope that "that thing" they hate is fixed.

FIFA 2013 was a pretty good game, but it was completely broken by one single mechanic, Strenght/Balance. In FIFA 2013 all you had to do was trample the opponent and its done, players just couldn't hold the ball, no matter how good or strong.

FIFA 2014 fixes this but breaks completely dribbling, acceleration and passing to some extent.
The AI is awful, the AI is incapable of scoring goals against the AI.
When the AI attacks, all teams feel like they are the same, no long passes, no nothing, its like watching Barcelona playing against Barcelona every game, the only difference is that this Barcelona's sometimes play better and sometimes play worse.
AI defenders will always guess what you are going to do, it's just plain annoying, difficulty through annoyance is not difficulty, its laziness by the programmers.
Half of the goals are: Player A shoots, ball hits the post, ball goes into Player B that scores a goal without opposition.

So in the end, we have a couple of problems in FIFA 2013 fixed and the rest of the game is at least partially broken.

All they had to do was to fix the "holding up the ball" in FIFA 2013 and FIFA 2014 would be the best football simulator ever made.

It's not a bad game... but it does not feel like EA seriously wanted us to enjoy it. I've played FIFA for ages and I'm not a bad player at all, I even play in tournaments (that's for those who say we hate because we don't know how to play). I can appreciate the many good things FIFA has over PES which I've recently started playing out of disgust.

I can appreciate the many good things FIFA has over PES which I've recently started playing out of disgust.

But I speak mostly of Pro Clubs : how can the AI be so stupid? How can the bots mess up so many ball receptions, passes, choices or even refuse to pass the ball and go straight to the opponent so frequently? How can the game crash so often? Be so buggy? How come dangerous plays at 45th and 90th minutes always result in a goal? Why the ridiculous deflections? Why the sick collision engine?

I remember the days when you used to have an empty/full circle under the player to let you know whether you had the ball or not... Fifa used to be so good. Now you make a tackle attempt and you realize you actually had the ball so you just lost it with a pass. Or you make a dribble but the ball went a bit far, so you change direction hoping to get away from defenders with the ball and you actually get away from them... without the ball, without having pressed any pass, or shot button.
Is this simulation? Then why so many confusions? IRL, I would know I do have the ball.

Every time you get close to another player or the referee, you get sent bouncing meters away by an invisible force even if you're actually tougher and fitter than the other person. And whenever the CPU decides you can't make a quick change of direction (don't get me wrong, the idea is good, but the implementation is horrible), you're forced to keep going the wrong way or you get stuck. Is this simulation? Then why do I feel heavier without the ball than with the ball?

Oh, and a longer range camera would be nice, just like in the old days.

There's a lot to like, as usual, especially outside of pro clubs (a great invention but messed up), but this year there's also sooooooooooooo much to hate about the game...

The only reason I haven't fully migrated to PES is the absence of an on line pro club mode. Rest assure i will if they create one.

This is the worst FIFA game released. Even the 2008 FIFA with no ball in the game was better.

The Marking is pretty low. You can score a goal pretty easy this way. Pace does not matter anymore in this game and the heading, also, it's useless. Players that are really strong like Ibrahimovici or Puyol are being thrown out of the way like rag dolls because that is FIFA logics.

The only thing that I like about this FIFA is that they changed the menus and how career works.
Online pro is still a fight to get on a spot with the pro because they have the same bad system were there is no match making by the role/position you play.
FUT is a mess and I don't even recognize what it is all about.

To sum it all up: Worst FIFA made ever. If you want to learn another game go buy it. If you liked FIFA 12 and 13 stick to them.

PS: Note for the dev's: Please go and watch Champions league matches, Liga BBVA or other relevant leagues before thinking that this is the way FIFA is meant to be played.

You cannot do a 2 yard pass because when your player is close to getting the ball and make a run,HE DOESN'T DO THAT The players just stand there when you try to do a simple pass, they don't move, they look at the ball.
    Now,the defenders.
They are idiots, doesn't matter if you use Vidic,Kompany,David Luiz,Thiago Silva, all are bad, they stumble upon eachother.

    - It feels like there is a delay between controller and the player
    - sprint button is almost useless here

    - heading is OP
-your team mates AI is bad (especially marking)
-the computer is literally cheating, his players are reacting on your controller input immediately, but because your player's action is so delayed (especially shooting), you lose the ball and your player looks like some slow motion retard
    - FUT is still same, low match or competition rewards and of course I purchased dozens of packs, for both coins and FIFA points, mostly during happy hours and usually I get 2-3 rare contracts, thank you EA!

If you play semi-pro, you might still enjoy the new gameplay, but anything above that becomes frustrating very soon.

The winner will be who they decided before the start of the game.... Just make a google check with the words "fifa 14 handcap scripting" than decide if it worth buy.

The interface is wonderful. You have so much information immediately available to you. Google Maps always has a minimap in the lower left corner, which gives you a good overview of the area. Getting information about people gives you a clear, clear window. Hacking offers a menu with easily recognizable icons, so you always know what your button presses will do.

For example Not letting you switch to certain players, hardly ever passing to the right player, when you finally, by some sort of miracle, pass to the right player the computer decides you didn't want to be that player and makes you the guy next to him, when on defense they hardly ever switch you to the player desired and who ever you do switch to likes to either freeze in place for a moment or continue running in the direction he was running regardless of what i want him to do(I've tried to change the settings for this but that somehow makes, at times, switching players somewhat impossible as it will never select the man i want to be no matter how many times i hit LB). I have tried every remedy for this passing situation, I've tried putting all passing settings on manual, on assisted on semi assisted and they all have different flaws that make passing the ball the most frustrating thing in sports game history. It is straight up impossible to ever accomplish what you see on the field and makes you want to throw your controller straight threw your monitor. Because of this the only way to score in this game is to get it to the corners and cross it, or from corner kicks which makes for the dullest version of soccer i have ever been a part of. Zero excitement and strictly header goals, which don't even make you feel good.

Other things that make this game terrible are the difficulty level settings, on professional i can school the computer 6-0(and i enjoyed scoring zero of those six goals) but on world class forget about it i can't even get a touch in. So there is no decent level of competition for me against the computer and i like to play manager mode. Which brings me to manager mode. Thank you very much for completely destroying it EA. The new scouting system is a complete waste of time. It can not find a player worthy of the first team and if you select anymore than 3-4 criteria it will find no one(5 star scouts). it is just completely broken and does not work and EA does nothing to fix it. I also have a huge issue with simulating games, I ideally like to play every game but sometimes you just want to get to the next game if its a huge game or something. When simulating my team hardly ever wins even if it is a lower division team ill pull off a 2-1 nail bitter. It just seems completely biased in the opponents favor all of the time rather than being a true simulation.

The only reason that this game gets 2 points is for the be a pro mode which isn't straight trash juice but rather lose garbage on the top of the pile. Don't get me wrong its still garbage but its the best of the garbage. Not all the switching player bugs are present because you are locked into one player sooo its got that going for it but aside from that players are constantly avoiding the ball thinking i mam passing to someone else and just buggy AI really bog it down. But it is not nearly as bad as the vs mode.

This is my first review and one of the first games that has made me so angry that i had to go tell the internet to beware of it. Please do yourself a massive favor and save yourself hours of frustration and avoid this game at all costs. Your heart and brain will thank you. That is all and again please please please don't support EA and this garbage title and never ever ever purchase this game. If you want a soccer game please go with FIFA 13 or a non EA title.

    1. UT (Ultimate team) is a wonderful idea but so badly executed due to gameplay, cheap OP players and packs of which you can buy with in game coins or your own money.
-OP players such as David Luiz, should not exist, if you watch him play for real, you'll see he is a reckless, dirty player who cannot do much other than try to take a longshot every 2 minutes (most of which fail), he's far too fast despite it claiming it's only 77 or 72 pace, he scores in every match, he wins every header, etc. Essentially he's better than Franz Beckenbauer.
-Packs, or more specifically gold packs, these tend to be a complete waste of time, you could spend £40 on packs and not get a single decent player, it's just money grabbing.
    2. Offsides, oh dear, it appears my strikers are offside for the 5th time in the first half. It's as if they can't grasp the concept of it.
    3. Referee's, get in the way far too common, don't call out flat out fouls which is incredibly aggravating.
    4. Did footballers forget how to position themselves? Your players seem to run around aimlessly on the pitch as if they were cows upon a field.
    5. Dribbling, sometimes it's great, sometimes it's bad.
    6. Players feel far too heavy

So aside from it being bad, annoying, and addictive
it has the potential to be really fun and feel like a game.
Personally I think they shouldn't aim for being a simulator, I used to love the arcadey feel the older ones gave, where I had fun playing it.

I got last years fifa when it came on sale. I suggest you do the same with this one. Esp if you own last years version. It is complete waste of your money.

Nothing special than the predecessors except minor changes in graphics Doesn't deserve even to be pirated EA just likes to rob their customers yearly releasing almost the SAME games

FIFA 14 has the same old problems as previous incarnations, but it remains the same great football game. [Dec 2013, p.84]

I’m not sure there is enough extra content to warrant a purchase from FIFA 13 unless you’re a diehard fan and want the up to date player lists, but if it’s been a couple of years since you’ve looked at a FIFA title, then there is no reason why you shouldn’t be getting FIFA 14.

FIFA 14 is the reassuring central-defensive midfielder of the series. Dependable, rather than revelatory. Physical, tenacious and tight on space. It does the job without fuss, but also lacks flair.
