    - Body armor is practically useless, gets reduced after a few hits, including animal attacks.
    - Animal attacks everywhere, can't get to a mission location without being attacked and wasting ammo and health.
    - The helicopter is great but can't remember where they are except a few places and the map only shows them if they are next to you.
    - Some towers have helicopters but they can't be fast travelled to.
    - 50% of the time, if I fast travel to an outpost and try to leave for a mission/task, the outpost gets attacked and I have to turn back to help out which wastes ammo and health.
    - High powered sniper rifles able to take down heavies come too late in the campaign, when there are less useful.
    - Performance is acceptable but hiccups due to loading happens quite a lot despite being installed on an SSD.
    - Enemies teleport sometimes, which makes picking them off from afar difficult because if the shot misses, they get alerted.
    - I don't get the weapon accuracy, especially the bow. Sometimes I need to compensate for distance and drop, other times not. Enemies tend to sway their head quite more often than in FC3.
    - Unmemorable location names; can't name any of them.
    - There are lot of collectibles and they don't show in the map if it is zoomed out to far; I wish you could jump back and forth between the locations of certain collectibles.
    - I spent the first 10 hours hunting for animals so I could get my equipment levels up. Starting out with a single weapon slot is ridiculous.

In conclusion, its a good game but doesn't go much further than FC3; if you liked FC3, collectibles, free roaming and sandbox gameplay, you should play this game.

This game is so poorly optimized Ubisoft is starting to become EA now and I hate to say it but EA is the one improving now they must first check the quality of there release before releasing it Graphics and Storyline is decent but a lot of gamer are having a hard time with all the stuttering, glitches and Graphical issues.

Too many goodies throw into 1, like half of Tomb Raider included. it's getting as good as Battlrfield 2 and Crysis, getting to the age of MS Office's massive functional flexibilities. But holding Q + left SHIFT and moving the mouse cursor to craft some syringe is nasty, as there is not cancel key included (such as keyboard key SPACEBAR) to cancel any selected grid in the circular HUD. Rather confusing to master at first.

(auto drive on main road) Guided and auto pilot route for your vehicles?! It can be turned on or off, but in the end it went buggy and went ON no matter what.

Having 2 different kind of predators chase you and try to kill you is stupid, it's a tiger and a wild boar both at the same time coming onto you, then in less than few second you got attacked by a snake (after you killed the tiger and wild boar). So let's say the eagle, hawks, vultures and wild dogs are trained by some hunters to attack you, just can't see why so many chain reacted wild creatures attacking you while bomb exploding and gunfires are all around.

They've make it so much bigger than Far Cry 3, like a fun park, but all you need is a machinegun and sticky grenades to take over all the outposts (no need to hire those Indians assist team either. See?! I never use any of them that I can't remember what the proper name is), the hardest difficulty is not hard enough. You don't want to talk about realism in PC gaming (to any of them), it just a fun park, action, action and more actions. Game of chess is a game of chess, games are mere modern day chess games. Only fools want to talk about realism in games.

From time to time those Indian assist team pulls up in their jeep, they start shooting into the sky at those eagles or hawks, driving them mad so they has the excuse to swoosh down to attack you.

I give it a score of 7 because it has "dimension" games that you get to leave for gun battles in another zone. This is Tomb Raider, GTA, Call of Duty throw into 1, and may be there is much more to it?

Again and again Ubisoft releasing remakes of old (and good games), but with higher price and tons of bugs. This is absolutely average game, which is the absolute copy-paste from FAR CRY 3, but with some very minor changes and other exterior. It's not funny, because we saw that many times. The most annoying part is the story, with absolutely illogical script, missions don't make any sense, and characters aren't interesting at all.

But if you want to burn 60$ and a couple of days, you may buy it. It's not so bad game, as it can be (sic! Unity)

Far cry 4 really is a good game but, for a few reasons, it has to be marked down.

1: It's just Far Cry 3 in a different place. 1: It's just Far Cry 3 in a different place. That's no bad thing as Far Cry 3 was a brilliant game but when you're being asked to shell out £40 for a "new" game, it's a little insulting to find that it's little more than a big expansion pack.

2: It has obviously been developed for consoles first. This means clumsy UIs and some really basic errors that shouldn't be present in a released game. See points 3 and 4.

3: Out of the box it's unplayable due to mouse acceleration that cannot be turned off without unpacking, editing and re-packing the game files. The mouse sensitivity is also painfully low, which means that you have to have it cranked up to 100% to get close to being playable.

4: The game runs at 60FPS for me but it doesn't feel like it. Due to a stuttering issue it feels as though it's running at 15FPS. It's painful to look at but it can be cured by buffering frames.

5: Point 3 means that you can't play the game on multiplayer as the edited game files make the server think you're cheating.

So, in conclusion, if you're happy to pay £40 for some DLC that either sort of works as single player only, or doesn't work at all but is single and multiplayer, then go for it. Otherwise wait until they get off their arses and patch out the problems that should have been caught in alpha testing.

This game is special for me and for all Indians. Playing a world class game with characters speaking Hindi(especially the abusive language used is so typical of Hindi) was truly a delightful experience.
Apart from that the game is fun to play, visuals of Himalayas are stunning , gameplay is flawless and the story telling in shang re la part is indeed inspiring.

So at first glance this game is pretty good, however a few hours of gameplay later and you will be telepathically screaming pure, unbridled hatred at Ubisoft for releasing an unfinished game. So to summarize...

    1. Game fails to save half way through campagne (if you're lucky).
    2. The game will crash to desktop 1/5 times you play.
    3. Game will crash if you don't complete a mission "correctly".
    4. Texture popping becomes distracting.
    5. AI is very glitchy and poorly implemented.
    6. Textures can be clipped through causing you to fall under the map.
    7. Story is terrible and predictable with some recycled audio/character models from FC3.
    8. Audio often switches off randomly.
    9. Character glitches are quite common.
    10. The "open world" is covered, and I mean COVERED in invisible walls.

The game runs extremely smooth on my PC and I have everything on Ultra so there is no performance issues. The story line and side quests are amazing and way better than the previous Far Cry games that I have played. Every side quest in Far Cry 4 have so far been a lot of fun where you want to do side quests and you want more of them!

There are a lot of comments where people are saying that Far Cry 4 is basically the same game as Far Cry 3 and some are calling it Far Cry 3.5. What a load of CRAP! Far Cry 4 is Far Cry 4 and is totally different than Far Cry 3. Hell the graphics engine used in Far Cry 4 is different than Far Cry 3 and you can see the difference in details if you have played both. the graphics in Far Cry 4 are simply sublime!

A lot of new game mechanics in Far Cry 4 like the Grapling, Gyrocopter, riding elephants, using animals to help take down outposts etc.

Far Cry 4 is by far the best game release that I have played for 2014. It is a lot of fun and I highly recommend it. Ignore the negative reviews as I doubt they really played the game.

    - Coop is basically unplayable due to all the bugs (main reason I payed $50 for the game)
    - This game is a dog performance wise. For how good the graphics are (decent), it takes a ton of GPU/CPU to drive it
    - Huge patches still coming in on the regu;ar and they don't seem to fix anything. This weeks was another 2.05 GB, this is the thrid patch I've gotten since January that was over 2GB, and there have been many other smalle rones.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've never played such a buggy mess before... Screen goes black when you start the game, crtl + tab twice fixes it, the same happens when you go from the options to the main menu. When I turn on Fullscreen, leave options (of course it goes black), its back to windowed mode...
The aiming with mouse is horrible, playing wth a 360 cntroller works, but it hasn't enough buttons for all actions.
Sometimes you take damage, when you fall down 1 Meter...

    And now to the worst...
The game sometimes doesn't notice you progressing!
Right at the beginning, at the first bell tower you get the grapple. I took the grapple, but the game somehow didn't notice this, the grapple was gone and i couldnt use it, because the game didn#t notice that i took it...
OK... start again... Took the grapple again, worked, climbed up the tower and destroyed the radio thing, nothing happened, current quest is to destroy this thing... game didnt notice, that i destroyed it...
Ok... start again... 2 times, the third time the game noticed, that i destroyed the thing!
Good quest complete. I saved the game and closed it.
After a few hours I started FC4 again. In game I was standing in front of the Grapple, bell tower mission still active!!! Didn't save my progress... I now have given up trying to play this buggy mess...

And btw you are forced to download Uplay and have an account to play FC4. Steam and Uplay must be running in the background for FC4 to "work"...

    Don't buy this!

Right, here's a review straight from frustration. I hate your wild life aspect of this game. It ruins the game experience, who did the AI on the wild life, they suck. The wild life in Far Cry 3 was much better.

Does it really take 4 grenade launchers hitting a rhino straight on to kill it? I mean realistically now, I would think one explosion of that impact would kill a rhino in real life. Trying to do a mission? Trying to reach a vital, trying to take cover and heal? Well **** that here’s a dog/wolf pack to screw you over here’s an eagle out of the blue because yeah that's what wild animals do run into people making loud noises with guns and explosions, and why is it that wild animal attacks me only, unless of course I throw baits at the enemy? Why can't they get their share of random eagle attacks?

Also get rid of the guy who thinks “blinking” to add realism is a good idea, it’s a very ****ing annoying effect. You know what’s great about blinking in real life? You don’t actually notice it.

Seriously this game is a Downgrade from Far Cry 3, you didn’t take the series up a notch and a lot things seem recycled. The new story line has been very lacklustre in comparison to FC3.

In FC3 I got a good sense of build up from a regular guy to bad ass with the intro and storyline, this new guy seems to have gone from a pissing his pants in the start/truck scene to a bad ass taking outposts in an unrealistic fashion.

Bad job by an AAA company, I expected more.

The downside is that it's exactly the same as Far Cry 3. Different location, not as cool as tropical islands, but good anyway. Different story, but in name only. I haven't played the co-op parts, and am just doing the campaign, but it sounds like an interesting idea. Multiplayer is okay. I've only played 'Outpost', which is fun, but gets old quickly.

There's only been a few missions so far, which is disappointing, and there's lots of side-missions/activities, but I'd prefer more main story missions.

Overall, it's another quite enjoyable game, but it's gotten old pretty quick. Far Cry 3 was lots of fun, but with everything being basically the same, it lacks the same entertainment value. Get it when the price goes down unless you can't wait.

I started with Very High settings and my first session with the game was 8 hours. I put in another 6-7 hours into it before writing this review. I did not experience any problems but did notice the stuttering after increasing FOV and as the I explored more areas of the map. I dialed the graphics down to High and reduce the FOV one tick from max and that helped. I did not play FC3 so my score is not at all based on its predecessor.

    Likes:
+ A shooter that's set in a large, open-world with plenty of weapons, missions, and enemies. My take on the story is it's like a Hollywood action movie. It's good enough to drive your character's actions and motivations.
+ Variety of travel options. Run, climb/rappel. Drive, swim, boat, fly, jump, zip lines, elephants. Getting around is fairly easy.
+ I though the gun play and moving around was fine using the Xbox controller. Duh, it is a console port.
+ Missions in the open world are where this game really shines.
+ Crafting, skills, and progression mechanics are easy to understand for a Farcry noob like me.
    + Nice visuals.
+ I love the settings. I've trekked in the Everest and Anapurna regions of Nepal and Kyrat is modeled after the Everest Region. Ha ha maybe a modder can turn this into a Nepal trekking simulator.

    Dislikes:
    - The save/check point system. I'm spoiled by save system of open-world Bethesda Softworks' games like Skyrim and Fallout, so this check point business can get repetitive on some mission. For an open-world game, it's not really always 'open'. What's with this you cannot leave mission area messages? I'm trying to flank the bad guys!
    - The inability to fast forward through cut scenes will make me think twice about replaying this. I hope someday a modder can fix this.
    - Driving is a bit wonky with the Xbox controller but I'm getting better at it with each session. However, if I come across the copter while driving I will always switch to it. Unfortunately, that's not an option on some driving mission. That should say something about the driving control.
    - Some of the side missions take you out of the open-world and can feel rather restrictive and repetitive if you keep failing it like me!
    - Occasional stuttering on fairly high-end gaming rig. I would like to be able to run it on Very High setting. It looked a lot better.

I was reluctant at first about getting this game especially after reading various comments/reviews about U-play, Ubisoft's PC ports history, mouse/KB control issues, comparison to FC3, etc. I have nothing to report on that front: my game was patched on first launch, u-play always worked, I used a Xbox controller, not a single crash, and my gaming rig handled it just fine on High. That's the problem with games on PC: your mileage may vary.

For those of you complaining about the lack of FOV slider, the patch added the FOV slider.

But graphics aside, there are mission bugs every where. Things happen that I know should not happen. So these are game scripting issues.

The game feels a lot like FarCry 3. Its a small evolution not a revolution like 3 was to 2 and 1. Play mechanics remain from 3. The maps and art design are beautiful if only they can fix the performance issues. If they got rid of these problems with a patch which they very well could, the game could score as high as a 9 but until then it does not deserve it.

I had learned my lesson from all the others that have said UBISOFT games are full of bugs so i purposely waited to get FAR CRY 4.
Glad i did wait because my pc port does not have a single issue. it was all patched and ready to play.

To be honest it is very repetitive once you do each thing a few times the game really does not have much to keep it super interesting.
The story is really bad, i like the story is 3 much more, the characters in FC4 just have no life to them?
even the main villain is not all the great.
and the character YOU play is so uninteresting that i still do not know who the hell he actually is! LOL!
Flat, one dimensional and dull is the words i would pick for the characters and story in this game.
I am giving it a 5 because it has decent graphics and the gameplay is smooth. it is not a overall great game though!
On a final note, i cannot believe that there was not a option to turn off the radio in the vehicles when you get into them! other than the gyro-copter every single vehicle has a LOUD radio playing really distracting, annoying hindu type music or news broadcasts. I hate that a lot in this game, cant even enjoy riding around the map because of it!

the moment that made me start looking for mistakes and stupid stuff was my first skinning of an animal
    THE SAME ANIMATION
the same movement,no visible skin however
also if it wasn't for the helicopter the game would suck ass
it's an interesting terrain with lots and lots to do but it's boring navigating at a slow rate
the flying suit was a bit clunky also, there were times where i simply wanted to jump down but the suit was opening by it self and causing me to hit on the floor dying....

i didn't like that i had to complete missions to get some skins or the fact that a sniper enemy can hit me over great distance with dead center accuracy ... every shot hits even when flying away on the helicopter? i mean who is he ? chuck norris ?

also i didn't like the "Y" missions, the drug people, also the shangrila was a bit annoying at first ,then i got a bit interesting but it ended too fast,i don't miss it though...

i will now free every north post that's left and try to find everything in the map

i didn't see any GREAT improvements on graphics or sound but they are pretty good, though it doesn't feel quite right because the frame rate is a bit weird sometimes its 90 then 30 then 100 then 20,fix it

It’s good, naturally. I recommend it 100%. Although, I will warn you of a few things before I tell you the good parts (my progress is about 30% complete so far):
You are wise to lay off while the game is at full price. This is because it isn’t much different than FC3. There are a few new additions to gameplay and enemy types, but most of it is just the same thing in a different skin.

You are wise to lay off while the game is at full price. This is because it isn’t much different than FC3. There are a few new additions to gameplay and enemy types, but most of it is just the same thing in a different skin. Instead of radio towers, there are bell towers. You still have to hunt animals in order to craft holsters, ammo packs, wallet, etc. You still gather various plants to craft syringes. The mood of the game is still some struggling native freedom fighter “tribe” or “group” against a corrupt drug trafficking tyrant and his mercenary cronies. Outposts are still plentiful and the mechanics with that is largely the same (liberate outpost, disable alarms, try not to be detected, etc.). Wildlife is extremely plentiful to a fault in my opinion. It seems like I can’t breathe without being attacked by a honey badger, pack of wild dogs, a pissed off rhino, or my absolute ultimate enemy the eagle. It sucks to be scoping out an outpost trying to be stealthy, then a tiger or pack of Tibetan wolves just comes up behind you. It seems to never fail. It’s irritating. I have been killed by animals just as often, if not more often, than human enemies. That is what I consider to be “bad”, but more in the sense of “been there, done that”.
Now for the good parts of the game:
Graphics are as stellar as ever. Story seems to be slightly rehashed from FC3, but I’ll forgive it due to a broad range of side missions and activities. You can change the direction of the campaign by choosing between the two protagonist leaders Amita and Sabal, both of which have different objectives in spite of being on the same side. I am planning on switching off between them every other mission to keep things interesting. You can learn a skill in order to ride elephants (something I recommend doing early on). It’s like riding a living, breathing tank with tusks. You can ram enemy vehicles, fortifications, and even have the elephant grab a guy with its trunk and smash him into the ground. You have the ability to climb cliffs at grappling points. This makes getting around a little easier. Hang gliders are plentiful, as well as having zip lines and a wing suit. Some cool new weapons were introduced, such as the harpoon gun and auto crossbow. You can also get meat from animals and use it as bait (considered a throwable item like grenades). This attracts nearby predators to cause mayhem among enemies. Sometimes this backfires if an enemy Hunter type is around, because they are able to charm predators into attacking you instead. The main character isn’t a **** at the beginning like Jason Brody was (he’s kind of neutral and calm). This might be a con to you if you like some realism in your character personalities, but he does mention serving in the army, so that might be why he doesn’t act like a ****.
TL;DR – This game is an improvement upon its predecessor, but only marginally so. The new environment of Kyrat in FC4 is just as vast and fun to explore as Rook Island in FC3, but it seems like the devs for the game just added a few new trinkets to the gameplay, changed the characters, tweaked the story a bit, and then transplanted the game mechanics of FC3 into the Himalayan Mountains. Get the game, but don’t pay $60 for it. I think $40 might be a fair price.

Here are the bad design decisions that caused this game to be very frustrating:

    - **** save / load system: You cannot save halfway in missions. If you are trying to be stealthy and the last guy alive saw you, you have to start all over again. Last 20 minutes gone to waste. - Cannot replay story missions. I am not even kidding. You have to start a new game if you want to replay a fun

Luckily the issues are not a game breaker like the multitude of bugs in AC Unity.

FC4 is an explorers delight. I compare it favourably with Skyrim where you are encouraged to travel off the well worn path of the main storyline. Whether climbing the beautiful vistas, exploring a dark wet cave, or working out how to approach an enemy outpost there is always something interesting to do.

Most of the characters are very interesting. The storyline is fairly mundane but not too detracting from the overall experience. But let's be honest FC is more about the gunfights and playing in the sandbox. One mechanic I absolutely love is the ability of enemy troops to assault friendly outposts. I like the random events that fire off every now and then. This version of the Far Cry world is far more alive than earlier releases.

My final comment - beware the honey badger. Honey badger don't care!

Sure they have carried over a lot of the "framework" from Far Cry 3, but there was *A LOT* of love put into the story, character creation, environment etc etc. There is a lot to do and see here and it's a REALLY fun game to play.

Well, not really, just the fantastic, beautiful scenery of the Himalayas and it's amazing flora and fauna. I've only played 15% through the game so far so i can't give a comprehensive review, but despite the apparent premature release of the game, Far Cry 4 is very polished, bringing new additions to the Far Cry game mechanics like the gyro-copter, riding elephants, climbing up the rocky terrain and other nice little elements. The Dunia 2 game engine is beautiful as ever, and the game itself is VERY big! There is no shortage of quests, and exploration to be done, including the mini/ side missions, of which there are many. Far cry 4 is quite great. It has every good feature of far cry 3 with some new one added. You won't ave any problem with far cry 4 mechanics if you have played FC3.
There is a problem, it might be a good thing for some but it is too much similar to FC3. There isn't a thing in FC4 which may come as a surprise. Everything is expected.

0/10, This game has HARDCODED MOUSE ACCELERATION. despite having settings to turn it off, you cannot actually turn it off. for a PC shooter this makes it unplayable. Don't waste $60 on this for pc. Wait until they patch this or it hits the bargain bin. If you're any kind of moderate PC shooter player this game will make you legitimately nauseous with the unfixable acceleration.

Graphics are good but in videos they seemed better. Pagan Min is cool but you don't deal with him too much.
    Controls (mouse/keyboard) are clunky.
It deserved an 8/10 IF there wasn't the annoying stuttering due to the usual Ubisoft PC crappy optimisation which I'm SURE will never be fixed.

I decided to ride one and walk around.mthrn I noticed an enemy outpost and for fun attacked it. WOW. all hell let loose. They called in reinforcements and killed the elephant I was riding THEN the OTHER ELEPHANT that was also bathing got ugly and rage killed every enemy in the base. Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! So, so impressive taking an outpost on with an angry elephant that it's mate was killed. Does this get any better? No. Never. For that one experience I'm raising this to a 10. What was so amazing was that I attacked the base with only one elephant and never called the other one in but left it downstream bathing. However when it's mate got kaiLled somehow it knew from the cry it let out and in an instant it was raging mad and just killed every enemy. It knew to kill the ones that killed it's mate as it didn't touch my guys when they moved in. I also hand grenades a bear and killed and killed some leopards but wasn't easy. Loving it more as I play more. Glad I bought it. Love the helicopter. Snipered guards at a tower using a silencer and took like taking candy from a baby. Just awesome. Far Cry 4 is a relatively fun game with good graphics but it is so repetitive within the game and compared to Far Cry 3. Ubisoft just ruins games with their game formulas and uncanny number of stupid collectibles in game.

The two points I am deducting are going away for:
    - graphic stuttering issues not properly adressed (only some forum post, no patch), despite easy fix
    - enemy AI too often is too dumb (silently shooting a guard in front of his body should make them press the alarm and search in teams)
    - wildlife is sometimes too aggressive and too hardy (packs of dogs become really annoying)
    - finding and hunting down treasures is just too easy (Ubisoft standard: buy a map, watch your minimap ... apes could do this = no real surprise or "accomplishement" in it)

Anyway, I really enjoyed it and definitely recommend it.

Far Cry is really the Final Fantasy of FPSRPGs - except without all of the emo melodramatic crap. Anyone who has played more than one of the FF series knows that each one is independent (except for the new spin-offs they have been doing). The same can be said about the FC series. FC3 was about a preppy Californian that went skydiving and landed on the wrong island. FC4 is about a man whose sole mission is to spread his mothers ashes in Asia. How the hell would that be an expansion to the preppy Californian kid?

Pagan Min is not Vaas, but he has his own personality as do many of the other NPCs throughout the game.

In the end, if you like the FC series, get this. If you are expecting a re-invention of the series and your hype levels are above 11, then go complain about something else, somewhere else.

Like so many others making these reviews, I feel like Far Cry 4 feels way too similar to Far Cry 3. A different setting does NOT, a different game make. Far Cry 4 has both it's high points and low points. Overall, the game plays pretty well, but as you really inspect it, the uglier details start to pop out. Far Cry 3 developed the glorious, butter smooth combat that makes all of the combat feel like you're starring in a movie. Far Cry 4 only developed it further with the new vehicular gun-play and take downs. The core Far Cry combat experience is all there and then some, which makes the combat even more fun than in Far Cry 3, but it's the things that occur outside of combat that are lacking. There's a couple different points that make Far Cry 4 a weaker title. First of all, the graphics are lacking. Even though the Himalayas and their surroundings look gorgeous in the game, the graphics still don't look any better than Far Cry 3. It seems as though the sense of graphical progression stopped. Far Cry 2 looked light-years better than the original Far Cry, and Far Cry 3 looked noticeably better than Far Cry 2, but Far Cry 4 looks exactly the same as 3. Why? I realize that there is a point when graphics can't really get better, and modern games are on the cusp of that. This means that game companies will have to find other ways of making a game great, like the story, which leads me into the next point. Far Cry 4's story didn't capture me in the least. Ubisoft failed to make me, and apparently a lot of other people, feel in tune with the character, Ajay. In Far Cry 3, you follow a sheltered white teen and watch him become a tribal killing machine. It's fascinating because for the whole game, you're watching your character progress turn from a totally normal 20-something into this moral-less bloodthirsty jungle BEAST. It's believable, and you, the player, help facilitate that. Far Cry 4 does NOT have that sense of character progression. It's made clear that Ajay doesn't really change in mind or body, but instead it's the leaders of the Golden Path, Amita and Sabal, who undergo this huge moral change. Unfortunately, they aren't the main protagonist, Ajay is, so what they do is not only irrelevant to the player, but they only each appear in maybe 10 cutscenes. For 99.9% of the game, you have absolutely no idea what they're doing. You don't feel that sense of character progression and empathy if you almost never see them. They also don't make the gigantic moral decisions, you, the player do, so it doesn't make a lot of sense that they undergo this huge moral change when they aren't making any of the big decisions. It's really annoying that the player is forced to pick sides in the game as well. You either eventually side with Sabal or Amita. No exceptions. That's total crap. We're talking about Ajay Ghale, a man who takes down impenetrable battle fortresses by himself with nothing but a KNIFE, who rides elephants into battle, hunts tigers with a bow, who eats bullets and craps C4 explosive. You'd think that Ajay would have the power to make a different choice, a third choice, something better than the cards the game deals you, but no. That's not what Ubisoft wants. Another huge point is that the game never explains who exactly Ajay is. It gives very little background information. It never explains how Ajay became a seasoned killer, nor does the game attempt to tell the player how Ajay feels mowing down hundreds of people. In Far Cry 3, Jason Brody first hates killing people, then revels in it, then hates the fact that he revels in it. Every step of the way, you knew what Jason was feeling. In Far Cry 4, Ajay is basically nothing more than a silent protagonist. Everything he says maintains this neutral moral ground to it, to the point that you don't know what he's feeling, and you don't care. To end things on a higher note, all of the new things that were implemented, like the driving gun-play, gyrocopters, co-op, and grappling hook, all feel especially polished. Pagan Min is also the most fascinating antagonist in any game I've ever played, and I applaud the people who thought him up. TL;DR Far Cry 4 is a game with amazing gameplay, and decent graphics that is massively hampered by a VERY limited and uninteresting story. Expand

I’ve rated this game relative to what I think of it as a stand-alone experience. But I have some rather scathing things to say when taking history into account.

There was a time when the word 'sequel' meant bigger, better, and more features, and implied innovation and a desire from both the developer and the consumer for the game to exceed the boundaries set by its predecessor.

Well, now it's the 21st century, and Ubisoft has done away with such outdated and archaic notions as 'definitions' and 'innovation'. The number '4' in the title Far Cry 4 does not denote it's place in a series, only it's place in the chronology of releases, for Far Cry 4 is, for all intents and purposes, the exact same game as Far Cry 3. Ubisoft has internally redefined 'sequel' to mean 'a minor variation of the previous iteration in order to draw the game closer to being a mass-appealing cash factory'. And it found its mark with FC3. Returning in FC4 is the same gunplay, the same game mechanics, the same unnecessary upgrade system, the same graphics engine, the same 'everyman-cum-superhero' protagonist, the same enigmatic villain, the same fetch quests - albeit with a little more polish: the visuals are marginally prettier and utilise some nice new lighting effects, the gunplay is a little tighter and more enjoyable, and the menus are filled with more 'things' to spend your cash on. But it seems that Ubisoft has forgone the opportunity for innovation in favour of seeking to address the main complaints in the laziest possible way, for example: replacing FC3's unlikable protagonist with FC4's safe, bland one. And, as is typical with this game, this is a change, not an improvement. It's as if Ubisoft heard the complaints about the FC3 protagonist and instead of understanding that the real issue was a lack of depth and congruity within the character, they simply thought that people didn't like a guy that was a dick occasionally. So instead of making a deeper character, they sucked all the personality out of the protagonist - which would be fine if they hadn’t gone out of their way to give him a distinct presence in the game, which refuses the player the chance to imagine themselves as the character. Ajay Ghale isn’t faceless, he’s just empty within. And it’s not even as if they’ve given the player the courtesy of being self-aware about how lazy they’ve been. After stealthily slaughtering a dozen soldiers, one of your character’s first lines is ‘I’m not a soldier, but I want to help’. BAM - immediate incongruity. It’s insulting to your intelligence, and straight away it triggers the same disconnect you felt in FC3.

Now, in saying all this - the game is FUN. And creating a fun, popcorn shooter that’s all-adventure all the time is a completely valid endeavour. In some ways I feel that FC4 has gone the way of Saints Row in that it seems to go out of its way to give you tonnes of vehicles and OP weapons from the very beginning, foregoing all restraint in order to maximise the raw FUN factor. But I can’t stand the fact that Ubisoft has, once again, gotten their hands on a series that I loved, assimilated it into their formulaic release equation, and once they get their hands on a money-making combination, churn out carbon copies with a successive numerical value slapped on the end.

So should you buy it? Believe it or not, I do think that there is a genuine, no **** condition under which this is a good purchase. I read a review that stated that if you liked FC3, then you should buy FC4, which I feel has it all wrong, because if you like FC3 and buy FC4, you're paying money for what is essentially the same experience in a different setting, and that is a rip-off. I liked FC3, and after playing FC4 I was bored half an hour in because I’d done it all before, and I would not recommend buying it full price. *HOWEVER* if you don’t own FC3, then I think that FC4 is potentially a better game, if only ever so slightly.

What do you like – mountains or islands? It’s basically the same experience.

Co-op is less fun than expected. You aren't allowed to take on Campaign missions with a friend, which is a bit of a disappointment. The co-op mode is very limited. To few side quests and outputs.

Overall, i'd rate this game 8-8.5. Story is a bit meh, but the side activities, open world and the game mechanics make up for it. It's just plain fun to play.

Overall the game is wonderful, with its exciting gun play and familiar elements from Far Cry 3. Its a shame the story isn't more engaging but the side quests and sheer amount of exploration alone make up for that lost aspect in some ways. It is an enjoyable game. Right from the start you are engulfed in a bloody war where a group of unlikable terrorist douchebags fights to overthrow a ruthless dictator who also happens to be your brother, father, or something such, I haven't quite figured out. Plot is stupendous as ever but gameplay makes up for it by far. There are many more ways to blow stuff up and there's much more stuff to blow up. You can ride an elephant and shoot from an RPG at the same time, you can fly a helicopter and carpet bomb your foes with grenades. You can even ride a helicopter elephant, though I haven't tried but I wouldn't be surprised if you could. Get the game. Ignore the negative votes, those are from people who buy a game from Ubisoft and expect it to work within the first few months, some people just never learn. Expand

Far cry 4 is just another far cry 3 revised.
A lot of bugs fixed, a lot of mechanics improved. The game is fun overall but the tower thingy and going around the map searching for some items to unlock skills... It is boring.
If you haven't played far cry 3, far cry 4 is a good shot. Mouse has a messed acceleration on PC version. The game could be better optimised, it has it lag spikes

The story is a horrible mess.. You come to this place and suddenly you are a professional killer and you ally with these Golden Path for no reason? And at the end... It's a mess, you're there to shoot a bunch of guys and leave. That is what this game is about.
The veichle shooting and random events are amazing. You have a lot of choices, You can stealth, or go fully open fire..

Good game overall, nice hisotry, graphics and beautiful environments, awesome soundtrack just like fc3, nice weapons on the other side the game is kind of repetitive with the same enemies always. Theres a lot of stuff to do but not everything is good, either way if you enjoyed far cry 3 you will enjoy this one as well.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I already wrote a review and that was after a few hours. A few ACTS (as there are Acts in the game, like some sort of play, which is a bit odd but nvm) in, and I'm slightly more reserved about what I think about FC4.
What I liked to begin with was the music, the general theme of the game and the aesthetics were no surprise coming from Ubisoft, seeing as they've had experience in producing trees and mountainous terrain elsewhere before (gee, wonder how!). It's a very pleasant looking game, but after a few hours, the mountainous terrain becomes boring, if not tedious - because in FC3, all a lot of people found themselves doing was trying to get up hills they couldn't because their wasn't enough grass apparently, and Ubisoft, in their infinite wisdom, instead of fixing it, and giving the main character the equipment with which to properly climb mountains and seriously steep terrain, decided to chuck in the lesser-spotted anchor points for grappling hooks, and the rest is an abundance of terrain that no man, beast or vehicle can pass, except for a buzzer, which will - PROBABLY - go over it. Probably, because the buzzer, though it's a refreshing addition to the list of oft used vehicles that had already appeared before, has one godawful flaw - and that is a very low height ceiling. You can only go so high before it starts with the alarm and the slight spiralling out of control - and that's a little bit annoying, because it kinda takes the joy out of the wingsuit - jump out of the buzzer, hit the shift key, and off you go on a batmanesque trip over the hills and valleys, but not the mountains, you'll just get splatted.
Then there's another problem with the game, and that is in the second act, you have to escape a labour camp/prison. You're unarmed, and until you can get a knife, you can't do ANYTHING to stop being shot at should you get spotted. There's none of this "let's give them some buttons to mash" mini-games about it, you just get shot to **** and that's it, you're done. That to me was a big let down, because surely you should at the very least be able to punch a chap when he's pointing something shooty at you. But no. You'll just end up dead.
The game is good, to all intents and purposes it's pretty neat, but after a few hours it becomes tiresome and cliched, because it's been done already - FC3 was it, and you'd think they'd have added some pretty important features to the player's abilities in game, like being able to climb hilly terrain sans grappling hook anchor points - at least give us some climbing gear that lets us NOT use anchor points if we don't want to.
Generally it's okay. If you absolutely love the FC franchise, there's no doubt in my mind you will probably love this game too - but even as a fan of the FC franchise (I have it all now) number 4 is good, but it feels like they've missed bits they really shouldn't have done. It's not an incomplete game in that respect, but it could well have been better. So it's gone from 10 to 8.

PC port is pretty garbage (a Ubisoft trademark). Constant stuttering and hitching on the lowest setting - even on a high speed SSD coupled with a (more than) capable GPU.

    Specs:
    GTX 1060 6GB
    Ryzen 5 2600x
    16 GB RAM

Mediocre. Has a couple of good moments, but the rest just drags on.
Combat is not fun, stealth is slightly better.
    Endings are terribly insipid.
And don't get me started on the pothead characters...

Amazing game. Enough new stuff to feel fresh compared to FC3, especially the new wildlife is amazing and a nice challenge trying to hunt things like Rhinos. Runs very well (on a good system) except for the day1 bug of having to disconnect usb controllers but that was not a problem once I googled the workaround.

If you liked FC3 you will love this, and yes it's got plenty new stuff to not make it feel like a DLC. My only gripe is they could have redone the looting animations (and fix the looting process overall, it's sometimes frustrating trying to find the loot spot and not switch weapons).

I have very much enjoyed playing Far Cry, Far Cry 2 and 3. Far Cry 4 is very much based on the gameplay of its predecessor, but it suffers from serious bugs. This is the only game to be crashing on my PC, causing very frequent loss of progress. No patches available from the publisher/developer, so I gave up.

After about an hour, I could've cared less. It's shallow as **** The characters are unpersonable, the story is totally unengaging, the new features are... gimmicks at best.
As for an upside, I'm struggling, but I guess it does look really nice, in the same way that some artists always seem to draw the same picture, again, and again, and again.
Just another modern game, same exact

Far Cry 4 takes the best bits of Far Cry 3, puts a new spin on them and drops its troubling racial politics and constrained mission design. The story and characters a bit more lightweight, but the core remains the same. Overall, this is a leaner, meaner Ubi-style open world experience and the best iteration on the franchise.

With Far Cry 4 you get what you loved in Far Cry 3 - improved and with some innovations. Playability is great, but it will force you to think of the state of the game industry and everlasting urge of producers to cannibalize their own titles. [Issue#248]
