I'm having a blast traversing through the Appalachia. I do feel that this game doesn't do much for co-op or multiplayer. I do like having the live events, however the quest like structuring of the game doesn't leave the door open for exploration and adventure when playing with friends in co-op. To say the least it is a bit boring in co-op and is not challenging enough.

However, where the game does shine is when playing as if single player or lone wanderer. Graphics and environment is beautiful. The combat and stealth mechanics are well fleshed out. The NPC interaction and quests are refreshing enough.

There are some lurking hidden dangers where the player can die rather quickly. Overall I'm going to keep playing until complete. I do wish the difficulty would scale better. I like a challenge.

Yes, this game does have microtransaction, but so does Fallout 4 creation club, and it's just optional. No point to complain about having nice and cool cosmetic stuffs from atomic shop. Atomic stuffs are carried over on each new characters on the same account are the pro. When I see all the negative reviews are laughable to me. I do understand that this game sucked from the start and i said to myself that i would never buy it or play it.
I was watching a stream of a guy playing a bit and had to try it now that it cost almost nothing.
And what can i say its amazing after so many patches. i dont think i have had this much fun in a game in 10+ years "Skyrim" im 3 weeks in and have put over 180 hours in this game

You can play it singelplayer if you want but if you play it multiplayer it only gets better.
Only thing they need to do now is remove the overpowerd legacy weapons so new players have a chans to do any damage on a boss before its dead.

But if you are new and like Skyrim/Fallout3/4 then try it. it is good now.

I never played this game at launch so can't comment on that but the game now is quite good. I have never paid a cent in micro-transactions or fallout first and still have no problems whatsoever. This game is massively complex and if you don't take the time to learn how the mechanics work, you aren't going to be very good at it. Perk cards, weapon types, legendary effects on weapons and armor, mutations, stealth, food buffs, chems, ammo type all have a massive effect on how your character will play. Understanding damage mitigation for fire, radiation, explosions, energy weapons and ballistic weapons also play a role. Different enemies have different mitigations as do your character depending on how you configure it. On top of that, you need to understand how PvP rules work if you wish to engage in it. If you don't, then just turn pacifist mode on. Don't let the review bombers rob you of a great game. Expand

This game is criminally underrated. It seems the people with the worst opinion of it are people who have never played it and developed their opinion based on the 2018 backlash, and people who have sunk thousands of hours into the game expecting it to be something it isn't.

For a casual player who will probably put a 100/200 hours, maybe a bit more, into it, if you count this game out
This game is criminally underrated. It seems the people with the worst opinion of it are people who have never played it and developed their opinion based on the 2018 backlash, and people who have sunk thousands of hours into the game expecting it to be something it isn't.

For a casual player who will probably put a 100/200 hours, maybe a bit more, into it, if you count this game out you're missing a whole new Fallout adventure. Sure, it has its quirks, but its charms more than make up for it. If you love exploring a post-apocalyptic landscape, discovering interesting locations and piecing together what happened, all while listening to some of the best classic music ever made, then you'll *love* this game.

The multi-player layer on top is well done and subtle. You can participate in it if you want, or ignore it and treat it like a single player game. I am not a multi-player gamer yet I really like the way they did it in this game and it's fun knowing other players are in the world even if I'm largely ignoring them.

Just keep your expectations realistic and ignore whatever hype made this game seem like it would be some kind of grand MMO experience, because it just won't live up to that and it's okay. And remember, it's an online game, you're going to run into lag and bugs that are actually just network issues, and that's okay.

If you do that, you'll find you were missing out on a whole new Fallout experience that you might just absolutely love, like I did.

Multiply it by, at least, 2 to get, for example, PVE (Hunter's) and PVP (Assassin's) sets. Even boosters can't help me as there is a daily limit of 300 Legendary Scrip.

Fallout 76 is my favorite post-apocalyptic game ever. And I mean even from release. The mass delusion that this game was somehow terrible was the most frustrating gaming experience of my adult life; everywhere I went the consensus was "there is nothing good about this game and Bethesda ruined everything" when I was playing 6-10 hours every day and loving it in a way I had rarely loved any game before or since. The inarguably bleakest, loneliest, most distressing entry in the series (or possibly of any non-horror game), Fallout 76 had literally everything that made the previous three entries in the series great, and far more besides--more compelling voice logs, terminal entries, interconnectivity between areas, mutated abominations, verticality and variance of locales, everything. Except, of course, for human NPCs. Would I want all my Fallout games to be devoid of human NPCs? Absolutely not, but for one game? Yes, please. It was an experience like no other. Their return with the "Wastelanders" expansion was done fairly well, and I love the game as much as ever now, but I definitely miss the early days of Fallout 76 when it truly felt like you were the first explorers/settlers of a once-pristine wilderness destroyed by the horrors of radiation. But good luck explaining that to anyone when literally everyone's response to "I am really loving Fallout 76" is "that's a joke right? I heard that's the worst game ever." I feel so sorry for everyone who believed the lies rather than trying it out. Expand

It plays perfectly on my P.C, 20 hours in and not a bug/glitch or crash.
The graphics are slightly dated and the combat similiar to older games but the introduction of N.P.C's has really made this game into a true fallout experience.

I am so happy that Bethesda didn't just bin this game and that they stayed true to their word in the end.

This game for me is about on par with F04.

I played Fallout 4 twice the reason being I started with that installment of the series and the second time around was playing it understanding all the tools and ways to achieve victory using my own creativity. Fallout 76 follows suit but though there are many similarities between the games you have to use a different gaming strategy to get the most out of it. The first 10 levels can be very tough and most are tempted to quit, not enough water, food, and decent guns and ammo. You need a strategy, a creative one and I like that about the game. When you make a camp remember to not leave it unattended because some of the players have taken on the role of a Raider. I overcome this by keeping a small camp with the bare essentials and quickly packing it in its theft proof case before I leave, so in a sense, there are still Raiders in this game but they are players like you but with a different agenda. I think that in a way this makes it more real life don't invite strangers into your home kind of common sense.

I don't wear the same clothes every day, treat this game like a new outfit and you'll enjoy it very much.

The PVP system is also great, for example, if a high level player attack you, don't reply and the damage will be very low, so you can escape, if he kill you, he's marked as "criminal" and other players could attack him ;) otherwise, you can fight as usual, the good thing is, when a lower level try to catch your "treasure" you can shoot him a bit, to keep the place ;)

And the fact the game has been **** on as much as it has, says more about the current state of the game industry than how good or bad Fallout 76 actually is. We are ignoring how much this game has to offer in exploration and immersion because of glitches, poor performance and janky gameplay.

But what if we had a game the exact opposite, no immersion, no exploration, no soul but utterly perfect performance, smooth gameplay and zero glitches? It would be rated extremely highly (see DOOM, HL:Alyx, Outer Worlds, et al.) This is a problem because we as gamers are saying we are incapable of putting up with a few engine problems and want utterly seamless experiences even if they are are empty and devoid of soul or creativity. We are saying we prefer a polished turd to a rough diamond. And that says more about our puerility as gamers than the gaming industry itself. We are the problem because they can only sell us what we are buying.

People prefer lack of friction over elevating gaming experiences because of a few small problems. Instead of putting up with a few issues to experience something that will inevitably fill us with a feeling of elevation, we want totally sterile, clinical games that more or less turn our brains to mush.

If people boycott the only even slightly good game that has been made in years because of engine problems and are now retro-actively ****ting on all of Bethesda's previous games as if 'Oh I never really liked those games anyway' then the future of gaming is very grim, and that's why I am rating game 9/10 because Bethesda to me is the only big game developer left still capable of making games full of any semblance of soul. I'm a long term player of the fallout brand.
This game is really different from the predecessor, but it is really enjoyable and fun to play.
And when first nuke explode your heart will have a gulp.
Plenty of enemies and also hard to beat, i suggest this game if you love the fallout universe,
Forgot, in the beginning the game was really full of bugs, but now they are nearly all fixed.

I have no baggage with this game. I’ve come at it fresh, once wastelanders was out. I think It’s a cracking game. But the Atom store is a disappointment, and the Bethesda clunky animations and poor character art bring the score down. Definitely worth a punt!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. In short, Fallout 76’s addon wastelanders feels like the best quest mod I’ve ever played. Let me clarify. DLCs normally take you to a completely new place, like Fallout 3’s The Pitt, that takes you to Pittsburg, and Fallout 4s Far Harbor which takes you all the way up north to Maine. But this addon, which is pretty much the first BIG DLC for Fallout 76 doesn't take you to a new place, but instead takes the world space and framework laid out in the base game and expands upon it. There were a lot of interesting locations that just felt empty in the base game, although there still are the random wastelanders and new faction wastelanders add just enough liveliness to the world that it no longer feels completely dead. I'm quite skeptical whenever Bethesda releases a game nowadays, since in my opinion they are reaching EA lows (and now Blizzard) with certain cutthroat policies. In any case, Fallout 76 was terrible, but like ESO, it's turning out to be a very good game after all the updates, with Wastelanders it's the perfect chance to give it another chance.

Biggest mistake from most people who dislike this game is that they have the wrong expectation.
It's a MMORPG game with a fallout theme, not a multiplayer fallout game. They've said this from the start. That said however, Bethesda really needs to step up it's game in testing before releasing. They're losing reputation as a company

Fallout 76 is perhaps the best video game I have ever played, and probably the best $60 USD I've ever spent.

This game isn't for everyone. It's not Call of Duty or Fortnite. For anyone not familiar with Fallout, this is a post-apocalyptic survival game. You are one of the few survivors after nuclear holocaust wiped out most of humanity. Everyone above ground who survived the blast struggled to survive, but eventually torn each other apart; one way or another. As the last survivors, you and your friends exit an underground vault to rebuild civilization from the ashes. It is a slow moving game, and no one is left alive to step up and order you around. That's precisely why I love it - no one is dictating to me how I should play the game.

Fallout 76 brings you a mutated toxic wasteland in a post-apocalyptic survival world where you can get together with friends (or make new ones) while exploring the ruins of of a near-future civilization. It's much more of a survival game than a combat game. You have to learn to build a C.A.M.P., to purify water, and to break down junk to build equipment and structures. Like other Fallout games, there is a lot of humor in the game for those who like sarcastic wit or dark humor. Your character will die if you don't eat and drink regularly. You catch and suffer diseases from eating uncooked meat, drinking dirty water, or being attacked by diseased mutant animals. Unlike other open and semi-realistic survival horror games, I can actually save my progress, and then pick it back up whenever I have time.

Below are the top comments I've heard from this games detractors, and why I personally think they're ridiculous. Hopefully this will help anyone who would actually enjoy the game, but is scared by the negative reviews. Some of the complaints were legitimate when posted, but may not be aptly applied to the game today.

    Top complaints from other reviewers:
    1. "There is no story."
    2. "The game doesn't work."
    3. "It's a cash grab scam."

    First: "There is no story."

One of the most common complaints I heard early on was "there is no story". The game has multiple quest lines that give you an inside look into the rise, life, and fall of each of the worlds major factions; Responders, Free States, Brotherhood of Steel, Raiders (and the various factions within), Enclave, etc. Each quest line introduces characters and events that often cross over with the others. The story is told slowly. As you explore the wasteland, you come across abandoned settlements, ruined bunkers, collapsed houses and buildings, booby-traps, a wide variety of mutated wildlife, demented humanoid mutants, friendly and hostile robots, and corpses. Some people don't like that the only friendly NPCs are robots, with the exception of a couple of shop keepers (a Super Mutant and a Mole Miner). Personally, I don't find the robots to be much different from "human" NPCs. Either way, they aren't actually human.

    Second: "The game doesn't work"

As far as performance and stability, I was a B.E.T.A. tester who pre-ordered. Since launch, Bethesda has released regular updates and frequent hot fix patches to address the issues their community reports to them. I have found very few companies that provide the quick response to issues like Bethesda. They even worked over the Christmas week, and most of the "news" online that reported on the inventory hack came out AFTER the exploit was already locked down. Through regular updates, Bethesda has made the game pretty stable. 76 crashes less for me than Fallout 4 and New Vegas do through Steam.

Third: "It's a cash grab scam."

I pre-ordered Fallout 76 for $60, was a B.E.T.A. tester, and have over 1000 hours on record playing Fallout 76, across 5 unique characters. I've spent less than $0.08 USD for each hour that I've enjoyed playing Fallout 76 (including a full year subscription to Fallout 1st). There is plenty to do in Fallout 76 to justify the cost, and I've seen it as low as $30 today.

There is no mandatory per month fee to keep playing (something I hate about many other MMORPGs). There is nothing in the game that you cannot unlock without spending any more money after buying. The premium currency (Atoms) can be earned by completing daily and weekly quests. The monthly subscription for Fallout 1st does guarantee you an on-demand private server, plus other in-game bonuses that offer minor conveniences. I chose to subscribe to Fallout 1st because I play enough that the ~$8.33/mo. for the annual subscription is very affordable. Even with the low cost of renting a private server on an on-demand hourly basis, Bethesda can't be making much money on me with this "cash grab".

    Closing thoughts:

It's sad that so many people post negative reviews for this game right after it came out as a beta. It's even more sad that so many people simply say they hate the game while openly admitting they haven't played it.

-nice workshoplocations and nice (but partially misleading) goodies like the verdiebot (i thought you can travel with it, but you cant)
-performanceimproovements in contrary to fallout 4 and you can look much further than before
-relatively low required performance (except processor [CPU])
-you can use the powerarmor without a fusioncore ... but it has a very annoing continous alarm sound that can not be stopped
-contrary to many people here: The landscape looks manificent even though it is limited through the engine
-The cameramode and the personal loading screens are a real highlight
-The atmospheric sound like the weather etc has quite improoved in quallity
    -improoved buildingmenu
-Big map, like really big but i personally cant imagine that it is 4x the size of fallout 4's map [this is subjective!]
-i think the nuke system is a realy cool idea that hasnt been there before.
-the implementation of the local lore is realy good and they dont overuse these enemys ingame
-nice to be able to change the character any time
-the free Beta Codes were realy kind!

    Negative Points:
-in 24 hour gameplay more than 3 hours sorting items out after i wasted and just throw away many items i was still overloadet with barely anything on me (this is nearly gamebreaking)
-I simply ignore minor graphic bugs, but questbreaking bugs are realy anoing (this is literraly gamebreaking)
-in most areas the workshop build and stash limit is way like really way to low and has to be much higher
-Weapons break too fast even with perks that should counter it
-The Pipboy needs a seperation between food and meds/chems and additionall options to better sort items like for itemweight and complete collective weight of an item e.g.: 1 stimpack ways 1kg then the collective weight of 75 collected stimpacks in my inventory way 75kg. It should be able to sort them this way
-The buildmenu for the pc needs better controls and not just z and c keys.
-has possibilty to see if you allready know a recipe or buildingplan when buing them from a vendor of wich there are only a few on the map
-the game looks good but somewhat too similiar to Fallout 4
-some seemingly interesting places like the spacestation are just plain empty from story or any kind of life what so ever. There are not even notes (beside for the one door for the space suits) or holotapes or even many new enemys
-the charactermenu has much to less options for customisation.I would prefer more like the hair etc. options like in the Sims or equivalents.
-on some points the game reminds me of No Mans Sky or Mass Effect Andromeda: They were not finnished on release
-Please dont destroy the lore. There has to be some kind of consistence over time and when i see the reason of the supermutants or the BoS this makes me thinking, if this was the right decision (even though Iam a realy big fan of the Brotherhood)

    Conclusion:
All in all this game reminds me on other big titles like GTA 5 or No Mans Sky. They booth had their flaws at the beginning and were even very empty but and this is where i think Fallout 76 will lead: Besides their flaws that can be corrected, it can and it partially is now a game that is entertaining alone or in groups and it will certainly be better.

P.S.: One part is still worring me a little bit: The private servers in the relatively far future seem only be hostable by bethesda themselves and lets see where the Atom Points are heading

    EDIT:
They **** up hard. Fallout 1st and other stuff behind a paywall after shattering the game with broken promises

I bought it because I wanted a new Fallout world to explore and I had heard the game could be done solo which was important to me because I don't usually have someone to team with. The game world itself is great. There's a huge variety of places to explore and enemies to fight. There is lore hidden everywhere. Back in November there were really only two large quests, the main quest and a side quest which was not enough. There were also a bunch of events, recurring misc quests, and daily quests (probably two dozen of all of these but they trigger randomly per server so you only ever see about 5 at any given time). It was easy to miss a lot of content if you weren't really looking for it. With the updates since November they've added a few good side quests and a lot of new events/recurring/daily quests (probably double the amount or more). They also added two other game modes other than adventure. There's now a dedicated pvp and battle royale mode which are both pretty good (or easily ignorable if they're not your thing).

The biggest improvement they've done though is update the vendor and trading systems. NPC vendors share a cap pool, so no more wasting time going from vendor to vendor because of their 200 cap limit. You can now sell 1400 caps worth to one vendor. They also added a legendary gear vendor where you can scrap and buy legendary gear.

Better than that, they added player loadable vending machines where players can sell anything they find or make. It's brought a huge amount of life to the game because you are constantly meeting other players and getting to see what great (or not great) things they built with the building system. There are also some great role players out there in the community and overall (on PC at least) the community is very friendly.

They've done pretty well keeping microtransactions from ruining the game as the only things you can buy that aren't obtainable easily in game are cosmetic stuff. They have repair kits you can buy but you can get better ones (they repair more) for free from high level enemies and overall the repair kits are fairly pointless because workbenches repair everything to a higher condition level for free.

They've also been pretty good about continually patching out bugs every week or two (but as with every previous falliout game they never get them all and always seem to add a new one for every dozen they fix).

There are still issues with some basic (not game breaking) bugs with challenges and certain random things that they haven't patched for no apparent reason. There are still some weapons notably explosives) that aren't balanced properly and are too weak. They also tend to make new content difficult to find as if it's a continual easter egg hunt. New side missions are generally on the bulletin board at a train station but they like to put a lot of other stuff (looking at you, scout badges) in weird places like on the bottom of the world challenge lists in the pause menu where nobody would look.

I've put several thousand hours combined into previous Fallout titles and so far have a little over 500 hours into this one and with the continual improvements and added content I don't expect to run out of things to do. Despite the flaws and the rocky start I now hold the game in the same high regard as the previous Fallout titles.

Game has become fantastic over the past 7 months with a lot of new content and story being added to the game. The hate this game is undeserved and it is my recommendation that you try this game before you judge you.

This game just keeps getting better. The servers have stabilized and I usually end up play for at least 4 hours every day because of how fun it is.

Albeit a rocky launch, Fallout 76 has been making strides to correct bugs and update the game with QoL features. The performance is still a little iffy, even on decent PC's but tweaking settings and such can get it to run pretty smoothly. So far I've been enjoying my time exploring and questing, just like I had in New Vegas or the Capital Wasteland.

I've been playing since the beginning, before the stash increase during all the game breaking bugs. I've stuck through it and have been having a great time. I would strongly recommend anyone that has a copy to come back and see what you're missing. It's only going to get better. For those of you who are still on the fence... I say do it! you will not regret it, this is the perfect time toI've been playing since the beginning, before the stash increase during all the game breaking bugs. A different Fallout, doesn't mean a bad Fallout, nor a bad game :
Some elements from Fallout 4 are present, but reworked to be less complicated or restricted (the survival aspect for example). The crafting part however is a bit tricky, as you don't have a clear value for them (is this mod better than another one ?).

The world feels empty and alive at the same time : the post-apocalyptic vibe is here but stories are here and there, monsters (now more various thanks to a better bestiary) blend nicely with their environment. Haven't visited all the regions (3/5), but they are really distinctive and well designed, with their own theme. The weather effects are nice, but aren't visually impactful enough (had a radstorm that lasted 5 minutes).
Then comes the story, which is linked to the "no human NPC"-thing(/drama). And it's good. It bring this "thing" in the post-apocalyptic vibe. Quests/stories are different, sure, but "they work", Moreover, it makes the few NPC you meet, or holotapes you read, important. You're happy to see or hear someone. You want to know them, you -want to- care more for them.
Sure, it take away the impact you have, and for that, it's not perfect. There are some other "problem", like the stash/carry limitation, but they're not so much of problem, than a way of playing (don't hoard everything. Choose what to take and what to keep. Choose which weapon you use and which you can't. It's part of the survival aspect of the game.

Overall, it's a good game. Didn't had any real bug, nor problem, though some people might really have. It's something different, something not everyone might enjoy. But it does not deserve the hate it receives. I've played more than 24h, and I really enjoyed every bit of it.

Great game with some weird cult hate that's pretty much become a meme lol. Dunno, try it and see. I didn't get it at launch. Got it after all the negative reviews lol. I don't trust people :P

In its current state, Fallout 76 is a very solid title with lots of gameplay. If you see it for a reasonable price I would advise picking it up. The game has improved a lot and looks like it will only get better.

Bethesda has done a lot to fix some of the issues, and starting to look up. Still plentiful amount of bugs, but playable, like any other Bethesda game. I am keeping my fingers crossed and hope it keeps going up from here.

This game was bad at launch. They really should've waited and beta tested if more. That said, it has improved a lot and it's a fun experience nowadays. The community is welcoming and helpful, some fun events have been added and even the Battle Royale mode is good, which honestly was a surprise.

If you like Fallout games, there's definitely something here for you - now that the game has

Playing fallout games since fallout 3. 76 is clearly different, but its as much fun as the other Fallout games. Since the release of Fallout 76 i never skipped an entire week playing it. Playing with friends is nice, but if u want enjoy the story, all its quests and the nature of the wasteland, i recommend to play it solo. So do I, most of the time.

Fallout 76 represents a big disappointment and the lowest point of the series so far. Riddled with bugs, repetitive and dull gameplay, nonexistent story and outdated graphics, it fails as a both multiplayer and singleplayer experience for fans and newcomers alike.

Miracles do happen once in a while and No Man’s Sky proved that sometimes it is possible to get back on your feet even after a terrible failure. Right now though Fallout 76 is botched spectacularly on so many levels that even talking about this game is a waste of time. [01/2019, p.46]

An unfinished game with bifurcated identity and in an almost dysfunctional state. It's hard to build on a bad base, that will never change. Like the war. [Issue#292]
