Perfect. For me as the unexperienced "Bethesda's style" player. When you play it don't think about anything... Just explore. All. It makes you feel as a part of post-nuclear life. And don't read someone's opinion before! Or tips, or something like that. Main opinion is yours. Making your own through-style is most unforgettable thing.

Nice game, nice gameplay and nice story. If there were no new vegas, this could have been the best in its modern series.

It looks like the graphics from Bioshock Infinite! When you play this game, it is impossible to do everything that is possible in the game. As far as character customization, you can select your facial type, hair, hair color, eyes, and even have traits like strength, agility, etc. I would give the game a 10/10, but there is just something about the game when you're playing it, that just makes you get off. This is better than Fallout: New Vegas because, this one is the more post-apocalyptic feel of a world. New Vegas has that element in some areas, but overall it is just too civilized. I love this game. And if I lost my data in this game, I would throw my PC out the window! Expand

I'll do a pros and cons for this review.

Pros: 1.) Atmosphere- While Fallout 3 had a different atmosphere than the original two, 3 still provides a great atmosphere and feel of the game. I'll do a pros and cons for this review.

    Pros:
1.) Atmosphere- While Fallout 3 had a different atmosphere than the original two, 3 still provides a great atmosphere and feel of the game. I really liked large amount 50s vibe it had to it. The 50s diners, cars, buildings, houses. This gives the game a unique twist and it defiantly makes 3 stand out from the pack. It's also gives a twist of irony of the 1950s 'life is good' feel to the bleak world you're in.

2.) The little things- Small things like leaving the Vault for the first time, hearing the wind whistle as you travel through the wastes, Dogmeat, Harold being a full tree, walking into Springvale for the first time, or the rust broken look of the hunting rifle, the list can go on. These small things really brings out some cool things that can really immerse you into the world and give a feeling of the atmosphere and the game in general.

3.) Soundtrack, both radio and the OST- I don't like Three Dog, but I do like the playlist. Most of the songs on the radio fit perfectly into Fallout 3's world it's almost unbelievable. It really contributes to bringing the wasteland too life. In fact, most of these songs are 'feel good' music of America's post World War II prosperity and again, it goes back to the irony of the 'feel good' music in a desolate wastes.

4.) Wasteland- It's well detailed and looks great. Every location has a something in it and the distinct 50s style brings it too life.

    CONS
1.) Story- My god is it awful. It violates the definition of an RPG game with choices. It's short, linear, and the choices you make are virtually non existent. The story forces you to play the hero and side with the good guys and make all the right choices. Not very much flexibility.

2.) Characters. Good characters can make a poor story better. But that's not the case. Most characters are generic and 2-D. They share the same personality and sometimes there voices seemed phoned in.
With James and among other character, it forces a personal attachment on you and the game plays off of that regardless whether you actually care about them or not.

3.) Black and white morality. The game assumes you want to play hero and almost expects you too. At least story wise. I don't know, it just seems to lean towards being a good guy. You can still commit heinous acts, but if you've seen some of the dialogue options and how the story plays, you'll understand.

Still Fallout 3 is a good game, great in fact. It captures an immersive bleak, 50s style post apocalyptic DC that's just a joy to explore (despite the oh so many metro tunels).

As for the DLCS- Operation Anchorage is the worst, as it leans toward a boring linear shooter and the rewards make the game way to easy. Mothership Zeta is the second worst, as the whole alien ship thing seems a bit wacky, even for Fallout 3.
Broken Steel is a must, as it lets you continue on from the ending. The story for isn't too bad either.
Point Lookout and The Pitt are the best. Capturing great atmosphere, characters, and story. The Pitt being the best as it forces you into a convincing moral dilemma.

Fallout 3 is immersive, dark and fun RPG game that has tons of things to do and explore. The game takes place in post-apocalyptic Washington DC where several factions like supermutants, raiders, vault dwellers, brotherhood of steal etc. live in uneasy coexistence.

It possible to play this game strictly by following the plot, but the main plot is somewhat short and strictly speaking there are better plot-driven games. The real fun of Fallout is open-ended exploration. The game world is huge and has more than enough stuff to do,

Although the game is very dark, everything is done tongue in cheek. This includes many subplots (e.g. Wasteland survival guide missions intended as tutorial are often outright hilarious), character development system and violence which is so excessive it becomes ridiculous (in a good way). The games also offers tons of different weapons and skills.

Main problem with this game is the low-level cap of 20, which is reached very early in the game (especially if you like exploration). Broken Steel DLC increases this to 30, which is still low but alleviates the problem to some extent.

To sum it up, Fallout 3 is definitely worth buying if you like exploration, RPG, excessive violence and silly dark humor. It offers tons of playtime and good value for your money.

This post-apocalyptic game is one of my favorite games, I have spent 35 hours of my life sitting on my couch lost in the unique post-apocalyptic open world of fallout 3. the one bad part is the fact that you can't continue playing the game after you beat the campaign unless you buy the Broken Steel dlc, which is a really lame move by Bethesda

A lot was guessed or completed by our imagination, because we couldn't see that much of that world, or of those characters. Therefore, it was obviously a challenge recreating this world in 3D with the subjective point of view you have with a traditional FPS. A lot was added to this world, although sometimes you do get the feeling of seeing bits of oblivion remixed in this Mad Max environment. Nonetheless, it's truly a great feeling to wander in these landscapes with the sunlight changing all the time, the moonlight taking over. You have a huge pleasure discovering new places, exploring and searching for small treasures or hints for a possible new adventure.

Actually, the game gives you so much, it makes you wish you could have some more. After hours and hours of playing it, I wished there could be more different weathers, like rain or thunder, that would affect stealth for example and then I wished there could be seasons that would bring changes in how you could navigate or fight in certain areas; or what species you would be more likely to encounter in the wild, etc. The game succeeds in being immersing, capturing your imagination, making you feel like being there; which makes all the things you would expect in real life more lacking than in any other games.

There are many great ideas like Agatha's song quests and its outcome. This kind of idea is wonderful and does make your imagination works a lot. And that's why you end up wishing it could have been even better. Same for the what your minds make you see in a certain vault.

We lost the turn-based combat system of the original Fallouts. And well I haven't missed it as much as I would have expected. It's a common mistake we, fallout fans, have made we have tended to think that the turn-based combat system was essential to the fallout spirit. In the end, it was just a way to render RPG combat that probably was more suitable for the interface we had. In fallout 3, combat are more nervous, and somehow, more fun. It's true that in many cases, you can't apply any kind of strategy, and VATS tends to feel like a convenient way to reminds you that you're not playing an FPS, and helps in reminding how good or bad your characer is at using that particular weapon.

Unlike what I've read in some other review, aiming an opponent's arm or leg will make a difference in how they move or fight. Crippling their heads makes their aim a lot more random. The only problem is you don't get to enjoy much of these advantages against common foes as them having a crippled member usually means they're one shot away from dying.

    Some of the negatives :
    - lots of glitches and bugs that can be quite annoying,
    - many quests are not that interesting, and feels more like an embryo of an idea.
    - The game lacks some obvious mechanisms. Whatever your character's specialization might be, he/she can wear any type of armor. Playing a stealthy ninja with a Tesla armor shouldn't be possible, should it ?
    - your character can become excellent in almost every skills and somehow the game doesn't give you any other way to fully enjoy all its secrets.
    - Companions are nice but limited and either cumbersome or way too powerful (especially with the add-ons, dogmeat becomes invulnerable for example). I would have rather see more specialized companions. Like, if you're no good in unlocking computers, you could hire a computer genius to do the cracking for you, which would have allowed a more specialized character evolution. Most of the time, I'm walking with Fawkes who does an excellent job as a mule, but who is very annoying in how he tends to shoot everything in sight without any sense of nuance. Shooting Radroaches with a laser gatling isn't really necessary, is it ?

There are a lots of shortcomings that I could list but most of them would fit better in a wishlist for a future game. For example, I wish character's interaction would be more credible. For instance, what you wear doesn't change how people sees you. I wish I could put an enclave armor to pretend I am from the enclave, or that my ghoul mask would put people off, or that Derek would react differently when I'm wearing the mechanist armor. As immersive this game might be, those kinds of details tend to kill that.

All in all, this game was a very ambitious game and while it doesn't entirely fulfill all its promises, it does give you an experience like none other. It's still one of the best games I've ever played. I'm 40 and I've played video games since I was 9. :D

The PC version looks a lot better than the PS3 version, but the PS3 manages to be very enjoyable and provides some eye candies.

8.4/10. Just like The Last of Us, it has a wonderful feel that you really can't put your finger on. The setting is remarkably different from TLOU, as the game satisfies a 50s-perception-of-the-future-plus-bombs, but how hopeless the world feels is simply beautiful as a setting, and this setting is dominant in both games. With that being said, this game does have a few obvious flaws.

For one, the story. It's a roleplaying game; the story should not be linear, and it should give your character a blank state instead of forcing you into a story you may not want (a.k.a the Vault 101 backstory). The other is the forced system. VATS should be a choice, not something you are forced into. Sure, you don't have to hit "V" every time you enter combat, but you'd might as well, considering that there are no iron sights.

Voice acting was heavily recycled; they should have hired more voice actors instead of having the same guy voicing almost half of the characters in the game. The world size is nice, but it's mostly the same designs recycled over and over again. Fallout 4 has a ton of potential, if it combines what is good about Fallout 3 and New Vegas alike.

War....War never changes but Gameplay does with excellent mods. Fallout 3 is one of the greater games of last gen. and is still fun to play. Its a FPS/TPS that sends you into a vast world of The Capital Wasteland to explore its chilling environment that can look excellent in today's standard with textures pack. But the game needs mods to add in that extra 100 hours.

Too many bugs, crashes and other technical problems mixed with quite bland story and not really interesting quests or characters. Even the thing you loved at the start will annoy you in the end, loads of invisible walls and running through chaotic subway systems. I still enjoyed the experience, roaming the wasteland and listening to the Pip Boy radio was good, even some of the trademark things from original Fallout like VATS and SPECIAL mechanics are still here, but it's just not the same level of premium quality. Maybe the lack of good writing, memorable characters, or fantastic music to create a proper atmosphere, there is definitely something missing here. The content got a bit better with all the DLC, but I would still highly recommend Fallout 1 & 2 or New Vegas as a much better experiences than this. 7/10 Expand

I re-installed Fallout 3 from disk, (remember disks?), and have been having a great amount of fun in it. Of course the graphics are 2008 vintage, but GOOD vintage. The marvelous open world of Washington D.C., post bombs, is a deadly place crawling with absurd mutations and Mad-Max like gangs of survivors, and you simply go from place to place shooting them in the face with whatever weapons you can find. Sounds childish, and is, but in a childish glee-like fashion. The game seems to run well on my mid-low end PC, and I'm having mindless fun. The gameworld is actually HUGE, full of discoverable places much like other Bethesda open world games. i'm having huge amounts of fun, even after 6 years of ageing on this game engine.

I admit that I set off an atomic bomb in the survivor's town of Megaton, just to see the mushroom cloud.
Killed dozens of innocent people in doing so, but hey, whatcha gonna do? Cheers to Bethesda for making a game that's actually enjoyable after 6 years of ageing.

    + it's... Fallout. I waited ~10 years for this
    + nice graphics
    + VATS
    + Liam Neeson

A fun shooter with mutants, cliche story and unremarkable characters. Somehow I expected more from Bethesda (they created Morrowind after all). Still... it's ok.

okay in serious news, Fallout 3 is a solid experience through and through. Bethesda manages once again to throw the player in a large sandbox world with many different things to do and explore. The VATS system is a little clunky but overall the mechanics are fine. I promise not to ruin the story but in my personal opinion the story was very disappointing. You can actually skip about half the story on accident if you're not careful. The story is hands down the most vague story that we've seen so far with the Fallout series and even with the expansions adding more story content, Fallout 3 doesn't feel like enough with Point Lookout being my favorite and the Mothership Zeta being the most corny.

A brilliantly made, extremely fun game. Though technically inferior to New Vegas, both in terms of story and content, I still vastly prefer Fallout 3. The sheer amount of detail, things to do, and unique setting make this one of the most interesting open world games around.

Fun enough. Doesn't really capture the spirit of the original games. The atmosphere is good, and surviving and exploring in the wastes feels pretty good.

There's the germ of a great game here, but it's buried under a big smear of flatness

Look to New Vegas for a much better experience.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Fallout 3 is the Fifth game in the Fallout Franchise and the first game in the series published by Bethesda. The game runs on the engine used for Elder Scrolls: Oblivion and brings the games from a top-down perspective to a third-person/first-person perspective.

FO 3 departs from the original setting of the West Coast of California and centers itself squarely in the ruins of Post-Apocalyptic Washington, DC. As Bethesda itself is in neighboring Maryland, it's no surprise that the ruined DC looks great. There's a nice atmosphere going, aside from the excessive green tint to everything.

Your character is a Vault Dweller, raised in Vault 101 by your single father, James. James tries to instill virtues into your character as you grow up, and then when you're 19, he ditches you and escapes the Vault for who knows why. And that begins your quest to catch up with him out in the Wasteland.

As an RPG, the game is rather primitive. When you have a choice, you tend to only have two - good vs. evil, with a third option far too rare. And even when you make a choice, it generally doesn't affect more of the story, which is a failure of the writing team. Instead, the game relies heavily on combat and action, so having more charismatic or 'intellectual' characters in the Wasteland rarely fits.

But as an action shooter, it's inconsistent, especially early on. Your ability to hit is based on your 'skill' from the RPG mechanics, so having a low skill those will put you in trouble rather quickly. Many of the areas you have to travel through as part of your quests are set up as linear 'action stages' - some of which deliver a healthy dose of combat, while some miss out on great opportunities. I thought the big climax fight of the main story from the Citadel to the Purifier could have been much more grand if Liberty Prime weren't involved and it was just you, your follower, and a squad of elite Paladins assaulting the enemy forces.

Ultimately, Fallout 3 doesn't know what it is. It's not a great RPG because it relies on action and shooting. It's not a great shooter because it relies on RPG mechanics and fails to deliver at key moments.

The result is somewhere in-between shooter and RPG. It offers more choices to a fan of shooters than they usually get, but pigeonholes fans of sandbox RPGs into linear action sequences.

A few days (an hour or two, depending on what you were doing) and you were welcomed once again. And this applies to just flat out shooting someone in the face in town square. At noon. In Fallout past, that would have guaranteed death on sight. In Fallout 3, it is a temporary annoyance.

And also, in this new Fallout world, your freedom of action is greatly limited, plus your character variety is badly flawed. In Fallout previous, your attributed determined your skillsets, which determined your approach to the game, from brute force hulk with BIG guns, to the leader of a party through Charisma, Fallout allowed you ultimate freedom to solve your quests. Not Fallout 3. The few skills you have to work with now matter less than the three you actually need to finish the game.

Yes, the world is huge compared to Fallout previous, but is so EMPTY compared to the previous offerings. It is a wasteland, devoid of the culture that made Fallout special. Plus the way you get sucked into the rushed ending, with no warning that you are in the endgame, left me frustrated that I really had no opportunity to explore the landscape fully.

Overall, this feels like another game wearing Fallout clothes, and doing it badly. A below average FPS, and a bad RPG, but overall a slap in the face to RPG fans, and another stain on the franchise. Bethesda is absolute trash

Once all the bugs were fixed and the DLCs came out for the game of the year edition it is a fantastic game with a great story. I think it is the best fallout. It has choices that are consequential and the fact the aiming system isn't perfect adds to the combat. It makes it more of an rpg not being able to rely on aiming so you have to use VATS. Again, much like Skyrim, Fallout 3 can have some gamebreaking bugs on rare occasions, but it's made up for by the glitches that doesn't break the game, but instead causes a varying amount of hilarity or humorous confusion, like a super mutant's corpse falling from the sky, a friendly NPC's face turning into inside-out, or perhaps stepping on a wrong rock, but it turns out to be a magical rock that shoots you into space and gives you a lovely view of the entire playable zone, only to fall all the way back down, but you don't die. It seems under every rock you find an interesting character with a unique and unexpected quest. Honestly, I wanna say everything here is near perfection, this is one of my all time favorite games. Between mods and the vanilla, there is a huge amount of content to dig up here. I love the V.A.T.S. system, it keeps this game from being just another FPS with level ups, to a live action turn based combat game almost. Why, if I love this game with such a passion is it an 8 out of 10 then?

Windows 10 makes this game nigh unplayable on modern systems. You can get it to run. As a matter of fact I think GoG actually just sells it out of the box ready to play. But steam's version is a mess unless you put some work into it.

The graphics are extremely dated, even when first released in 08, and there's a few bugs riddled throughout this game.

The game boasts player choice and its effect on the endgame, but in reality, that's just not there. And if you go into the game knowing this.. well, it's just fine. Never effected my personal playthroughs because I didn't have any expectations there really. But as I grew older I realized it was kind of lame.

Nonetheless, minus these few gripes, I personally think every other aspect of this game is just.. perfection. As I said, I think this is one of the all time greats, and it's definitely in my top 5.

To start, I must say that I met the franchise for New Vegas, since Fallout 3 simply refuses to run on modern PCs, so I played the PS3 version, which is not perfect, but runs well. It has some light frame drops and crashed two or three times.
I will try to be neutral and succinct in this analysis, without comparing the two games. However, I say that a series of items and possibilities created by Obisidian (such as the superstimpacks, the weapon repair kit, among others) in its masterpiece are missing, and would be really good to have them. Still Fallout 3 is an excellent game, where Bethesda Game Studios got it right in many ways, making a game that was revolutionary in its day.
The game starts smoothly, where we create our character and see him grow inside Vault 101, we receive our Pip-Boy and we have the combat tutorial. Then suddenly our protagonist's life is turned upside down, when his father leaves the Vault without authorization, arousing the ire of the Overseer. So we have to run for our lives, entering the desolate lands of post-nuclear war Washington for the first time.
I begin by highlighting the similarities with the first Fallout, where we also control a 19-year-old who is forced to leave the Vault and face the “outside world”. At the beginning we only have a pistol, little ammunition, some melee weapon, some stimpacks and the most expert players will already have some simple armor, from the guards who dared to cross our path during the escape.
Now we must explore this open world, to find our father. The map is not that big, but at the time it was quite impressive. We have several different environments to explore, with many interesting locations, giving us the feeling that each of those places has its own history, which we would like to know.
Our choices matter a lot, we can be a hero or a villain, according to the Karma system. Personally I prefer the path of goodness, which gives the feeling of accomplishment, in addition to bringing some extra rewards, like the items I earn every time I go to Megaton, for saving the city.
In addition to the main quest, which is very linear, simple, relatively short and can be completed in a few hours. However players who like to explore and hunt for good items will take around 40 to get everything, reach the maximum level, with the best weapons and armor. My complaint is that the maximum level is 20, which I consider low, forcing the player to be very wise and careful when it comes to evolving his character. I believe that is why it takes so long to gain another level.
As for secondary quests, we have one in each city or larger location, with several inhabitants. There aren't many, but they are enough to explore the map more and earn good items. I even completed almost all of them, except for one that would make me lose karma and one that was given by slave owners, who were too dead to talk to me.
Still, we are not obliged to know most of the scenario. There are several Vaults that I didn't even get to, because I thought I could go there later. Anyway, it depends on each player.
The enemies are not many and a little repetitive, but they are interested and good to face, forcing us to act differently with each one of them. A serious problem is its hit detection, which will only register its attacks if we hit them right in the center. Often the aim will be red, but because it is not precisely aimed, we will only be wasting ammunition, which is not that abundant.
Another complaint I have is regarding the durability of the items. The weapons wear out very quickly, requiring constant repairs. Armors look like they are made of paper because they wear out very fast, even power armor. So much so that this problem was corrected in the successor games.
However, like any good RPG, it is very pleasant to get stronger and stronger, to be able to go where and when you want, in addition to being able to do what you want, reaching one of the various endings, each player being able to reach the one they prefer. Weapons are good and efficient, NPCs are interesting to talk to, each place has an aura of desolation and mystery, and should be well explored, for the maximum benefit of the player.
Finally, I say that Fallout 3 is a sensational game. It has a simple plot, but with gameplay and exploration that stand out, good and addictive. The player will be swallowed up in that post-apocalyptic environment, wanting to stop just seeing the credits. Even more considering its low price today and low processing requirements, in addition to the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, as well as backward compatibility with the Xbox One.
    Pros:
Great and good game to explore
    Many good items
    Interesting quests
    Large scenario with many locations
    Cons:
    Hit detection issues
    Eventual crashes
The game does not use its scenario to the fullest, leaving it up to the player whether or not to explore

I know the point of Fallout is to explore a post-apocalyptic world, but after a 100 hours of seeing the exact same landscapes, it gets kind of boring. Ignoring that, the game's story and characters are truly great.

A great rpg. Probably the best Fallout of the franchise. I'm just unable to spend more than 10 hours every time i try to play it.

Fallout 3 is an absolute unit, the steroid pumping younger brother of Fallouts 1 and 2. A good representation of what can go wrong when designing an open world. Game is boring, badly balanced, with an hilariously dumb morality set in poor dialogues, served by streamlined systems that didn't get a second thought. It is a mediocre FPS and an insult to all what original Fallout devs achieved with 1 and 2.

Look I can completely respect anybody's opinions and stuff for liking this game, and I'm not saying you can't enjoy Fallout 3, but you have to admit that Fallout 3 is objectively the worst Fallout, as there is little to no emotional stakes and dilemmas for your character to come across in the world of Fallout 3. As in, there is no real choices to be made as you can only ever be either a goodie two shoes or Satan, there is no grey area where different opinions can lead to different choices that be both good or bad in different perspectives like in the previous games or even Fallout New Vegas. Also Todd Howard is an atrocious game designer, as he made the terrible mistake of generally leveling every enemy in the game to be beatable by a low level character as he thought that would be the easy solution to solving the problem of "if the player can go anywhere immediately how can we make sure they don't unfairly die against high level enemies?" As a result after a few level ups you are practically unstoppable and all sense of danger or tension from combat is erased. Another example Todd's lazy excuses for game design would be the quest marker, instead of using elements of the game's potential design or atmosphere to give the player a sense of direction he lazily put a marker in the bottom corner of our screen to help us. I ask you this, is it challenging or rewarding to discover a new area from walking in a straight line? No? I thought so. Now with all this negativity there is some positive things to be said about Fallout 3, like you said simply exploring the world can just be really fun in its own right and a good chunk of those side quests can be really engaging. However, what Bethesda and a lot of game reviewers say about this game, that it's a game about player choice and freedom, with a grand amount of good quality content when the evidence I provided with this comment clearly states the contrary, you should know that they are wrong, and that Fallout 3 is objectively the worst game in the series. Apart from Fallout 76. Expand

This game is truly amazing. It’s so fun to explore and doing missions is so addictive and fun. The game presents challenges that are fun to adapt to. These challenges are not frustrating because it all depends on how you play the game (how much ammo you waste, what type of build you want, and who you ally with). Even in 2021, this game ages perfectly and is just a fun time.

The Story allows for huge possibilities and the graphics were NICE!

Unfortunately the game does come with bugs but as mentioned, it is usually not gamebreaking and mostly entertaining to watch.

This game gave us the need for things we didn't know we wanted until it was released, weapons customization (we want it because this game doesn't have it)

Don't let the dull wasteland graphics fool you, Fallout 3 has a lot of action in store and shares a ton of things to do, story or not.

One really easy way to describe this game is… boring.

To start off, you’re born. Bit cliche, but fine. You you spend 5 minutes listening to an unskippable cutscene where you pick your name and looks, then spend another 5 minutes walking around as the slowest **** baby ever and choose your special stats while your dad rambles on about some **** bible verse I still can’t remember. Then the game forces you to interact with the most boring npcs in the world at your 10th birthday party for another 5 minutes and then teaches you how to aim and shoot like any person with above a room temperature IQ should know. You then take a meaningless quiz which takes **** ages and choose tag skills. If you haven’t turned off the game yet, you finally get to leave the vault. But not before you run past guards who want to kill you for no reason! Then, come to the shocking realisation that was just the tutorial. An amazing quote by Mr Howard himself, “when you step out that vault, it feels like you’ve already spent you’re entire life in there” yes Todd, I literally have spent my entire **** life in there. Freedom at last! What will the world contain! Amazing people, places, hidden secrets? Nope, just hundreds and hundreds of copy pasted bushes with the occasional house with some ammo inside to make you feel like you’re not just holding down W. The real problem with this game isn’t the fact that the devs didn’t put good content in, because there are great missions and stories in the game, but the fact that they didn’t let players find any of it. After I finished the game for the first time, I was happy and thought, wow, that was fun. Then I looked at my second monitor and realised I had a hundred tabs open all along the lines of: “how do I find _____ fallout 3”, “how to start _____ quest fallout 3”, “where is ____ fallout 3”. This game simply is not fun unless you know how to play it already, or if you know where everything is already, the game gives you no sense of direction of where to find the fun bits, all it does is put a tiny little marker in the corner of the screen telling you where to go to find a clue about your father who you already forgot about.

TL:DR: fallout 3 has fun bits, but doesn’t let you find them, and forces you to do boring stuff.

Minor niggles aside, Fallout 3 is almost entirely spectacular. Everything from the graphics, to the sound, to the plot is first-rate. The VATS system worlds like a charm, and it’s so easy to get the hang of, you’ll be cracking skulls like there’s no tomorrow. [Dec 2008, p.55]

A vast and open world of unimaginable possibilities opens in front of you in Fallout 3. Great story, flawless combat system, and the option to choose your own way makes it a hot candidate for game of the year. [Nov 2008]
  3. Fallout 3 is one of this year's best games. It's an unforgettable journey that lives up to the series. You are an ex-vault 101 inhabitant, and you discover a whole new world, full of zombies, mutants, raiders, aliens and all kinds of creatures. Welcome to this post-apocaliptic reality, where you are going to spend hundreds of hours.
