This has to be a joke. Someone please tell me the developers are playing a seriously out of date April Fool's prank on PC gamers? While the game LOOKS beautiful with the updated graphics they took a PC game with proper PC controls, ported it to a console control interface and then ported it right back to PC with a hideous console port controls setup. Seriously? No mouse support for menus? A, B, W, A, S, D, Tab, Insert, Home and End keys to navigate the game with no remapping allowed? WTH?

To top it off, this is the official developer's response when questioned about the lack of proper keyboard and mouse support:

    Oman [developer] 7 hours ago
We would have loved to add mouse support to the menu but we reached a point in the project where it was either going to be modding support or adding features such as mouse support in the menus. We chose modding.

They apparently consider an appropriate PC UI to be a "feature" and not a necessity. This would have gotten at least an 8 or 9 because it does have much better graphics but they apparently have no clue about what is needed for a PC interface for a game. Stay away from this and stick with the original if you want proper controls. Should they fix the controls scheme I am willing to re-review this game. As it stands, the controls scheme and lack of remapping is intolerable for a PC game.

On one hand this is the much loved classic Fable TLC with pretty new graphics. On the other though you'll be hard pressed to find a more buggy game. It has graphical abnormalities, random freezes, stutters, CTD's and once even BSOD'd. I've tried setting it to CPU affinity 0 since apparently it doesn't like multi core CPUs. I've tried disabling Xfire since it doesn't like multiple GPUs.On one hand this is the much loved classic Fable TLC with pretty new graphics. Ok, first things first. I never got to finish the original Fable (The Lost Chapters) on the PC, so Anniversary was like a kick to a stomach to wake up and play one of the best RPGs' ever created. Firstly I was kinda startled by the alienated design recreation (compared to the original), but since having started to play Fable III, I understand they wanted to unify the game universe with this (all anew) art design.

I installed the game, gone into menu, just to see you need to push some weird A buttons on the keyboard to move in the menus. This was an indicator to bring out my XBox 360 controller I have laying around for parties and sport/racing games. So I did - and the game did play great on it, being obviously designed for the gamepad.

Anyways, the quality of the game, all features, quests, costumes - it is all there. Fable is to this day one of the best RPGs, surpassing even diamonds like The Witcher 1, because, supposed to be a fairy-tale inspired, the story is rather dark compared to nowadays RPGs', with lots of deaths and plot twists.

Also Lionhead obviously did build up on the golden age of video games era, so your choices did affect the gameplay and even NPC speeches and lines (feature not seen today at all). The hero you play as can also marry, age and even buy (and decorate) a house in the towns to live in, or rent. Yes, rent.

Even tho Anniversary brings not much new (upscaled resolution, new textures and faces, and a few goodies here and there), if you haven't played The Lost Chapters in the past, go buy it. But understand, it is 1:1 port, so gamepad is a must.

    Quality of the port: 5
    Quality of the game: 8
Quality of the Anniversary edition thus: 5+8:2= 6,5=7

Patches have fixed the graphics and greatly improved the ability to remap keys.

The lack of mouse input on Inventory and Main Menu screens is still a problem. It's certainly not optimal but is workable. The size and placement of the HUD's display look like a design for nearsighted console gamers. TLC HUD was better. It's still a poorly executed port but better than it was when

If you don't own Fable Anniversary wait for it to go on sale before you buy it.

I've never been one to opt for keyboard and mouse as the added precision is negligible for me and I usually abstain from PC genre's more suited for high APM keybinding so I'm not bothered by the lack of support here. Being that my experience with the controls was personally excellent I can't file any complaints specifically.

It's a beautiful looking game on some levels, the new assets and textures make for a charming juxtaposition against now archaic looking animation and some janky geometry. That said it has a timeless appeal nonetheless.

Gameplay is fine albeit frustrating to acclimate to in terms of combat, targeting and movement have come a long way since the original release of Fable and this remaster does nothing to remedy this fact. Character progression is great, it's aged brilliantly - perhaps unintentionally so, it's not so simple that it's laughable but it's not sophisticated enough to warrant confusion. You'll coast along with a reasonable bevy of choices available at any given time, then in due time the game will end and you'll feel suitably fulfilled.

Story length? Perhaps Fable was considered ambitious and grandiose in its time but now its a brief colourful venture, weighed down only by a surplus of loading screens and segmented regions. Maybe it's timing, but in today's gaming climate a "short" RPG with enough depth to justify itself is a rare sight; typically short games are all action so it's nice to see a conventional RPG condensed into a dessert rather than stretched out into a bleak 10 course meal.

    Some gamers are just garbage...

First, all those ranting about bad PC "keyboard and mouse" controls for that game... lol, just buy a frikin controller for god sake. Nowadays, A LOT of pc games are optimized for a controller (like... most indie games, most 2D, 3D third person, racing, all the emulation world, etc. etc.) You need one anyway if you're a real gamer and this kind of game

a controller (like... most indie games, most 2D, 3D third person, racing, all the emulation world, etc. etc.) You need one anyway if you're a real gamer and this kind of game (third person action-rpg) is
    incredibly efficient with a controller.

This game is the same as before and for that, 8.5 on 10... but, the only negative aspect for
me is that, it's not graphically boosted enough and this is the biggest selling point. It was
advertise as the same game, but with modern graphic (as of 2014). Problem is, it's not
even that good looking for a 2014 game. So for that, 7.5/10 instead.

I still don't get the hate tho. It was advertise as the same game and some people are pissed that it
is, indeed, the same game. Don't buy it... ok, but you got what they told you you'll get, so if you can't
live with that, you are just a big pile of garbage.

Игра имеет много интересных систем, но помоему она морально устарела, играть в это в 2022 году крайне трудно

It's one of those games that I can't get into even though I really want to. It gets very boring after a while. It's definitely not the kind of RPG game I'm used to. Even if Anniversary version has been updated a little more suitable for today and the game doesn't feel mediocre, my thoughts are not positive for now because I can't play the game for a long time. Know someone who's never experienced Fable, or has only played Fable 3? Get them on this.

The skill system still seems fresh, the battles run smoothly. And in the bizarre and brutal world of Fable I felt I was always at home. A worthy HD update to celebrate the 10 years anniversary, with a few technical problems.
