Extinction suffers from bad narrative, unnecessary missions and lack of general variety, but its fluid and fun mechanics and fantastic sense of movement, added to great visuals, creates a laudable product that we feel able to recommend.

After a few hours it also shows a certain repetitiveness.

Extinction lands in that awkward position where, yeah, it’s usually fun - but you’re not really missing anything incredible by giving it a pass.

Extinction is a frustrating and repetitive game, that doesn’t reach its full potential. The idea is a good one, just not executed in the right way, with the focus on the wrong parts.

Extinction is full of wasted potential, and while some ideas and gameplay mechanics might be interesting at first, almost none of them are executed properly. Good visuals and some platforming fun are all that Extinction can offer.

A whole lot of colour and fun, with big things to smash, but it becomes repetitive far too quickly. [May 2018, p.82]

Impressive ogre battles and challenging, hectic missions, but I just wish there was a bit more to Extinction.

Two-minute trailer of Extinction that shows an epic battle against a giant ogre might make you interested in the game, but the thing is – if you’ve seen it, you’ve seen everything the game has to offer. Literally. [Issue#230, p.64]

For two hours, hunting Titans is fun, then monotony takes over due to similar fights and uninspired tasks.

Great art direction and smooth combat show a desire to do well. Although the overall lack of control and the redundant experience can't save Extinction.

Boring, tedious but somewhat attractive, this would be better as a tech demo or half-priced game but certainly does not work as a full priced title. Unfortunate.

Extinction is a poor action game with a too simple combat system, a deficient camera system, and a terrible and repetitive mission design.

It’s baffling that Iron Galaxy priced Extinction as an AAA game. Suffice to say that after we completed the first 3-4 levels we essentially saw everything the game had to offer in terms of environments and combat systems.

Extinction might seem fun in the first few minutes, and the combat system might keep you around for a while. But what really frustrates, is the narrow scope of the game, where you do the same things over, and over, and over; killing trolls, killing trolls, and saving civilians and the city by killing trolls.

Extinction shoots itself in the foot time and time again. It's so frustrating to see its good ideas buried under repetitive missions, a forgettable story, and embarrassing production values for its AAA price.

Extinction never opens up the way it's clearly supposed to, instead falling into a repetition that makes the game feel every bit as stale as its story concept.

Extinction is mindless, soulless stuff, and a huge disappointment from a reputable studio. [June 2018, p.116]

Extinction simply requires you to kill giants over and over again. Besides that, the game offers almost nothing.

It feels like a frustrating proof of concept, unworthy of its evocative title...a good idea poorly executed over and over again.

An absolute horror show of a game and I cannot recommend anybody buy it or even accept it for free.

Don't buy it unless you get it on a massively deep sale. Is absolutely in no way worth the AAA $60 price tag they put on it. ExtremelyDon't buy it unless you get it on a massively deep sale. Is absolutely in no way worth the AAA $60 price tag they put on it. Extremely repetitive, extremely short, extremely shallow. This game shouldn't be priced any higher than $20 and even then I'd still wait for it to go on sale for $10. Really glad I was able to refund this one. Somehow this has even less content than the atrociously disappointing release of No Man's Sky. Bad studio trying to rip people off. STAY AWAY! Full Review »

The thing is a buggy mess and plays like absolute garbage, hitboxes are about 10-50 TIMES the size of models (you can get hit by a fist that landed about 50 feet away), the rappel mechanic barely works (aiming at a Ravenii and instead it grabs a tree half the map away or just plain doesn't work because the camera is whipping back and forth between ground level and the head of this 200 foot tall orc (there's no up/down camera control in this game) while the onscreen prompt strobes in and out), once you've played the tutorial you've literally experienced everything there is to see. After doing super attacks on pieces of armor on a Ravenii's head you will sometimes be instantly teleported to the ground, forcing you to either climb back up (climbing is a nightmare in this game, your character just plain doesn't respond to inputs sometimes) or struggle with the broken rappel mechanic.
You can only cut their arms and legs off at ONE specific location and the process of delivering the final blow is tedious and just not fun. There's no fun in this game, just repetitive **** that looks exactly the same. Fighting the minions is mind-numbingly boring too. There are only four maps and I never paid attention to which map was which because they were boring and similar enough that not one of them stuck out as the best map and I couldn't tell you difference between them right now.
Your character controls like someone put about 15 minutes of fooling around with the default Unity setup into it and that's all I'll say about that.
They are charging $60-$75 for this game that I could have seen being a meh title on the Gamecube. It's not worth the time it takes to download and if you buy it you're stupid.
I made an account here because that's how strongly I felt about warning others from spending their money on this,
