An unplayable mess of bugs and a half finished combat system, it's a joke that games like this are actually released so long before they're finished. If it was a movie then the narrative would actually be good, but as a game it's just frustrating to play. Also for anyone looking for strategy/tactics in this game, it's all about luck and the rest is just boring.

The game feels rushed. Lots of bugs, you can get easily stuck, timer thing is stupid, game is too easy, whilst being annoying and unfair. It's like they just wanted to be done with the game. The design and optimisation is preposterous. Easily avaoidable mistakes.

The game is unplayable in its current state. Claims that the game is well made could best be termed enthusiastic exaggerations. It is possible that enough bugs, crashes, softlocks and memory leaks will be repaired to change this review at a future date. At present, that date seems months off at best.

Shame on studios that release games in an incomplete state. It's No Man's Sky

Shame on studios that release games in an incomplete state. It's No Man's Sky without the hype.

This is the first time I've agreed with the critics on metacritic more than other users. It's an unsettling feeling.

While, if you luckily pick the right event chains and not the wrong ones, you can technically complete most main quests, this is not a finished game.

At first i thought this game is fun, but soon it turned out to be the worst game i ever played in ten years.
The best phrase to describe it would be "Total frustration".

Less interesting and unsuccessful game compared to Rome game. It gets boring very fast and it's because of the similar gameplay mechanics in Rome. It's not fun to repeat the same thing over and over. Game developers need to understand this. Playing on maps that are too big is not fun when you can't fill it with good enough interesting quests. I'm not patient enough to finish this game, norLess interesting and unsuccessful game compared to Rome game. It gets boring very fast and it's because of the similar gameplay mechanics in Rome. If they had spent as much time developing the main story and gameplay as they did the camp mechanics, we would have had a much better game. Expand

Viking isn't the most refined game, with limited camera control, repetitive graphics that lack detail, and a lack of high-production presentation. It nevertheless succeeds in immersing the player in its world through an intriguing main story focused on local politics and motivations and driven by realistic struggles and constraints. Viking effectively impresses upon the player its main themes about the illusion of choice and the binding chains of circumstance, and also offers a multitude of poignant side-stories and strong character development. To top it off, the game features a unique combination of combat mechanics and abilities that allow creativity and enable some very interesting and satisfying strategies, as well as a novel take in timed and deliberate progress and out-of-combat party maintenance. Players looking to take part in a realistic and historically-inspired world with an engaging politically-driven story should look past the game's lack of technical polish and definitely pick up Expeditions: Viking.

Expeditions: Viking could have been wonderful. I love its strategic combat layered atop a real world setting that hints at the fantastical without ever crossing the line. It has intriguing moral choices that aren’t afraid to shy away from making the player pick between equally terrible outcomes, and it flirts with making the player both warrior and politician. I could have overlooked the timer and the lack of information, but what I couldn’t overlook is that in its current state, the game is outright unplayable.

Solid and funny RPG with great turn based combat, and above all, great freedom in choices. And you can plunder monasteries too!
