It's not a AAA title but if you look at the state of AAA games in last years its probably for the better.
Viking was a good game but Rome makes a huge step forward in almost every game system.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expeditions Rome is a singularly well written and designed game. There is a richness and a depth to the story and the characters that is rare in games, but that I have come to expect from the Logic Artist team.
I especially like that the choices you make in the game has consequenses, that carries all through the game (and at least once the consequenses can be fatal for your companions) It shows that the devs have respect for the players.

If you are a nerd for Rome you will like this game.
If you are a nerd for tactical crpgs you will like this game.
If you are a nerd for your men panicking in battle and killing their comrades you will love this game!

A great game with huge replayability due to the choices you have to make and their consequenses.
The mix between party and legion action is well balanced. The story is well written, good dialogue (with fantastic voice acting for most parts).
The vision of Rome the game delivers is as correct as possible, considering this is a game, not a historical treatise.

Gameplay is amazing . Care for every detail is there and love from developers for "good game" is clear. And they did it. Tactically is superior to Divinity games that i love and dialog is written by smarter people.
If you like turn based game and history role play this is at least strong 9/10 if we are tuff but why not be generous and gave it 10 .

Impressive game for turnbased rpg game.
The historical part was really enjoyable as a roman history fan.
Also impressed that they also respecting latin words in Voices. However, if you are playing in normal difficulties, and also you just.. gone thorugh picking basically any skills you encounter... you'll gonna have big trobule on progression. I blow up my save file for that one. :(

I really loved this game. The sense of weighted decisions and branches of choices when solving an issue were really not something I've experienced since I played Tyranny. Amazing effort I hope there's a sequel.

A surprisingly great game from a small studio. It has a big score and lots of details. The Rome theme is quite interesting and the story gets better with time and you really get attached to some of the characters.

The tactical turned based gameplay is wonderful and very addicting. I could play it all day and they added a lot of interested scenarios around it. But unfortunately, the rest of the gameplay isn't on par and gets very repetitive and tedious very quickly. Loot systems are also below average. The good news is that you can ignore most of that and focus on the good parts.

Buen juego, con una historia interesante, tiene algunas mecánicas que se hacen pesadas, pero en lineas generales, un solido 8. La mayor pega es que esperaba un mayor poder de decision

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. ER is a great xcomlike game. It makes you learning things about roman Right and the common life in time of Republic. But the contras are the antihistory over the acts of the game and the monotone of the mechanics.
Even so you will enjoy tactical combats.

Another solid entry in the Expeditions series. After the slight disappointment of Viking, I enjoyed Rome as much as Conquistador.

Pros: Enjoyable story and setting, logical and interesting characters, fun gameplay, nice soundtrack (but still not as good as Conquistador's). The squad combat is very enjoyable and I really liked the talent trees and armor customization implementation.

Cons: There are a lot of mechanics to keep track of, but most are fairly shallow like the camp upgrades, resource management, and strategems. Looting is also an unnecessary burden; running around clicking bodies is not fun, just auto-loot at the end of the fight and show what you got. But my biggest complain is the presence of only four playable classes. The game really would have benefited from perhaps one or two classes from each region to add more flavor. Instead it felt like a chore when I had to use the B-team for pacification missions when it would have been the perfect opportunity for experimentation. My advice to the developer would be cut some of the more superfluous strategy elements and focus on enriching the squad battles.

    Entertaining game.
First "Expedition" games that I tried and I liked it (I find it on Gamepass)
It's a mix between rpg, simple base building, tactical turn based combat and some adventure elements (Some chapters and quests are completetd by dialogues only). Good plot with some unexpected twist, memorable companions (with dedicated subquest), historical figures cameos that interact

It's the kind of game where you'll reload saves or change the gender of the main protagonist just to see different quest or conversations or endings or to see if it change the fate of some NPC.
Roman theme is gorgeus and well implemented, It raise my interest in ancient history
It reminds me of Fallout games (The first 2, isometric RPG of late 90's) or Baldur's gate or Shadowrun Dragonfall

I love THQ Nordic for not being afraid to experiment and create unusual games and EXPEDITIONS: ROME is one of them. My only complaint is the art design in some cases.

Expeditions: Rome touches a bit of everything and, if it does not succeed in making a perfect copy on its conquest and exploration component, it does rather well on its tactical combats and its very pleasant story to follow. If you're not too sensitive to technique and some heaviness in the game's pace, you should have a good time in the heart of the Roman Empire, building your own legend and pursuing your quest for revenge.

The worst problem is that combat, skill management and trying out tons of various swords are quite boring as a main dish, and Expeditions: Roms has nothing extra to offer.

Thanks to a solid turn-based combat system and an extremely convincing set of characters and an enthralling story, Expeditions: Rome manages to be a great RPG but a not so great strategy game.
