Not my typical style of game but wanted to try something new. Enjoyed the setup and the progress through this. The names of characters became a little out of control and hard to keep track of. I enjoyed the overworld campaign conquests until the random events started repeating themselves. Combat was fun and engaging, I made it about halfway through the 2nd campaign overall. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Yeah... this game's story was perfect up until the point where i was forced to sacrifice one of my servi or praetorians by burning them on a stake as an offering to some god, totally erasing and destroying the kind of character i was playing, the story was so good until this **** happened. Who the hell thought you should not have other options for this kind of stuff? why force the player to do this? why can't i just kill these pagans instead of sacrificing my own people? as much as i reloaded to a previous state of saves, there was no way to continue in the story, half way through act 3! and if there is and i missed it, i already gave up on it and uninstalled, gameplay was just ok, nothing outstanding. The team tactic fighting part is the highlight of the game, but the strategy part of the game is just badly designed. War becomes a card game, many tasks become repetitive and time wasting, not to mention computer is set to attack you every time when you pacify a region. The long time wasted doing those big map quests eventually worn my patience out.

The game is good, but has quite a few annoyances:
    - Bugs
    - Poor pathfinding - Clunky UI - Some poor design choices (who puts camera rotate to x/z??) - Legion battles are very underwhelming 2D minigame where choices almost dont matter (bigger army wins) - Some mechanics could be better explained. - Twitch drops and huge twitch banner on game main screen (no, I dont want to go to

    - No minimap (would really be useful imo)
    - Camera is too zoomed in even on max zoom out - especially annoying in battles

Special mention - Logic Arts is disbanding and devs joined company to do NFTs driven games:
    - No more Expeditions games
    - NFTs are cancer (very eco unfriendly, money laundering, lot of stealing and selling other peoples work) - supporting this is just sad.

History of the game is very interesting and it reflects this well, but I couldn't finish it even though I started from the beginning twice. The gameplay is too repetitive. This gets incredibly boring towards the last chapters. Doing the same things over and over again from the beginning to the end feels very painful and causes you to break away from the story. It gets incredibly unbalanced in difficulty most of the time. They definitely needed to keep this game shorter and deepened the main story as well. The way they chose to prolong the gameplay ruined the game. Expand

Expeditions: Rome touches a bit of everything and, if it does not succeed in making a perfect copy on its conquest and exploration component, it does rather well on its tactical combats and its very pleasant story to follow. If you're not too sensitive to technique and some heaviness in the game's pace, you should have a good time in the heart of the Roman Empire, building your own legend and pursuing your quest for revenge.

The worst problem is that combat, skill management and trying out tons of various swords are quite boring as a main dish, and Expeditions: Roms has nothing extra to offer.

Thanks to a solid turn-based combat system and an extremely convincing set of characters and an enthralling story, Expeditions: Rome manages to be a great RPG but a not so great strategy game.
