Not sure what everyone is complaining about regarding DLC. Would it be nice if they included skin packs to start? Sure. Would skins add to my enjoyment of the game? Having played Evolve on PS4 for a few days, my initial impression is that it's a pretty good game. There are some really impressive things going on here. When in combat or active pursuit of a monster, the mood is tense and the action is thoroughly enjoyable. However, the game does drag a bit when when you haven't spotted the monster for a while your team is just chasing after startled birds. Playing as the monster is also quite a lot of fun and is a thrill when you win. As hunters, communication with your teammates is crucial, so having mics is a huge advantage.

Wait times getting into a game seem a bit long at times, but I assume this will improve as more people (hopefully) buy the game and populate the servers.

I also like that they have an offline solo mode that allows you to practice with bots while also leveling up skills.

Overall, great concept for a game and I hope that it'll pick up in popularity. It can be repetitive but this should not be mistaken for shallow gameplay. Getting the basics of movement and skills/abilities down and learning the maps is just the first step. I'll tentatively give Evolve a '7' but this could end up being a solid 8 or even a 9 once some of the kinks are worked out.

This game has an amazing idea.

The idea is that four friends can come together to hunt giant monsters and have fun. And while in theory it's awesome, the reality is that this game isn't very fun all around. Encounters with the monsters loose their value after certain repetition. In the end, after a couple days this game seems old.

I do not recommend buying this game. A rent, at best.

After 200 hours of play, it is my opinion that the game is unbalanced in favor of the monster IN HUNT MODE. You can pick out the trapper silhouette with enough practice, which makes evading the trapper's dome and evolving to level 3 a simple matter. As for all the hoo-ha about the DLC, I don't think there is a problem. Maps will always be free (they say) and new hunters/monsters add enough to the game to justify asking for money. I know most people disagree, but that is my opinion.

As for the other modes (Rescue, Hatch, Defend) they seem more balanced, and specific hunters are more suited to certain modes (Lazarus and resurrect colonists in rescue, and Bucket can kill eggs very quickly by himself in Hatch.) I will confess I haven't played these modes much in my 200 hours, and wish there was a function where I could que for them directly, rather than having to que up for a whole evacuation game and hope I get one.

The thing with evolve is: I Feel like i bought a 60 Dollar Season Pass. Someone called the game a glorified DLC shopping mall. While i can't argue with that, i still think that there's a lot of fun to have with this game, but the price tag (you have to include the season pass as well as some of the content is literally stripped from the main game) is just not good.

The game has great polish, but it can't overshadow the shortcomings that exist since the first open beta. Things like friends can't connect via online lobby and start a game (but very well can if one opens a game, starts it and then the other hot joins with some luck) those have been adressed by the community but never where adressed by the developer. Which even further feeds the feeling that the Betas where in fact marketing events instead of bug-hunting parties.

In the end, evolve isn't bad. Just very medicore and on a price tag that's too muchin my opinion.

Yes. This game is pretty overpriced, dlc's are cancer almost in every game nowadays and evolve have f*cking store like the game and dlc's didn't cost enough. But the game itself is pretty good, at least with friends while hanging out in mumble/ts3/etc. Solid 8 for me when playing with friends, 7 if playing with bots/random guys who've never played with mouse and keyboard before (at least it feels like that). But these dick moves, day one dlc and 50 euros for example, makes me to lower score to 6. It just feels greedy.

So guys, please, try to contain your tantrums and rage a little bit while writing a review. This game doesn't deserve 0. While in my opinion it doesn't deserve ten either, it's still better than your butthurt-zeros. Grow up, really.

Fantastic, innovative gameplay, but a buggy mess. Crap matchmaking. Grindy progression system that at times is more of a chore then satisfying. The DLC debacle does not bother me, but a lot of people are very much against it. Game would be an easy 9/10 were it not so broken, but as of now the high levels of frustration outweighs the enjoyable competitive aspect.

I think it would be practical to have the assault class the slowest, and the medic the most agile etc but there not. You can however pre-match select perks like say 200% jump height or a damage/defence buff which does add a compelling element and keeps things spicy. And there is a online campaign (reminiscent of titanfall) which lasts for a few hours. The game does boast a innovative feature in which the online campaign called "evacuation" when the hunters/monster wins a match they upon starting the next match gets a in-game buff to help them out in the form of a turret, toxic cloud etc. I also have noticed no immersive on-screen elements like screen bob when you fall, recoil through pro-longed firing etc. Plus there are 4 characters behind a day one paywall, but there is also free future map packs. Graphics are extremely poor for 2015, with teture pop in, clipping etc. Overall a fun game, but little to compel you to play it for long :) Expand

Evolve is a great game, but 2k games screwed it up by giving you an unfinished game with first day DLC. The game could use a little bit of tweaking here and there, but here is a tip: don't buy it full price. Wait till it goes on sale. I'd say Evolve and all of it's DLC is worth 60 dollars, so just wait like the hunters when they try to track the monster

1st of all, the 80€ DLC everyone is talking about, is a 19.99€ Season pass, the rest are ALL SKINS, they won't change your gameplay!!! So don't jump on the hate train because of the DLC. 2nd: The game is 50€, which is overpriced for what it has to offer, yes it has different modes like hunter, nest and rescue, but they are similar since the game is just a 4 players coop game. Now I feel this game will grow with time, after all the negative reviews and the bashing I hope turtle rock make some changes in the game and maybe add more stuff in the future (maybe steam workshop who knows). Now I can't deny I love coop games, and this one is no exception, the game is really fun, the atmosphere is brutal, visually stunning and the 'cat and mouse' thing is really intense.

    Pros
    - Atmosphere is amazing, makes the hunting really intense.
    - Coop done right, every class is important..
    - Sound effects are really good.
    - Most likely to grow in the future (mods, maps, hunters,...)

    Cons
    - Lack of content, covers it with character development.
    - Overpriced

NOTE: They need to add more content to the game, new modes and maps and NOT as overpriced DLC, if not, this game will kill 2K and turtle rock.

NOTE 2: I think people are overreacting a bit about the games price.

I'll give it a 7/10, maybe in the future, with new stuff it'll be an easy 8 or even 9.

Heaven forbid they create a game where you unlock all of the content by, "gasp" playing the game and progressing in your level (rank). Where did that philosophy of gaming go? Oh that's right it died out when games like CoD and Madden's Ultimate Team came out that allowed lazy gamer's the ability to become an elite player by buying their way into the higher ranks instead of grinding and doing it the old skool way. Its just sad. I'll buy the game eventually because I loved the concept of the game.

Graphics were good. Replayability is high. But the price of the game and the microtransactions kill the gaming experience for me.

It has been a month and a half since release and the game is still unbalanced. Some hunters are just useless and the Wraith's decoy is just unbelievably annoying, you spam it inside a dome and you barely get detected. I will not go into details about which hunters are the worst or almost unplayable but my point is that the game has not been balanced and even with the balance patch getting released, there will be new content which will make the game even more boring considering how much the new hunters cost (30$ for 4 hunters). This means that we won't enjoy the balanced game unless we buy the new hunters because who would want to play with the same old boring content. I bought the game for 34$ including the 4th monster and now TRS want me to pay nearly as much just to get 4 new hunters, that is unfortunately the main reason why this game is boring imo and could also be called pay to win. Match making is a shame too, 90% of the time, you end up in the same lobby that you were in just seconds ago, and what's worse is that it often makes you join an existing match multiple times (and wait for the map to load) when you have quit once before and waited for 1 minute (you have to wait 1 minute every time you quit an existing match) to be able to find another lobby (or the same lobby of course). I did enjoy this game up until the point when I realized that it is just a moneymaker for Turtle Rock Studios, so unless you have +100$ to spend on the game to not become boring after a week, I do not recommend it.

I can also add that the developers are Microsoft whores that only care about XBOX and advertise XBOX as their platform of choice when this game is a CryEngine game and PC should be the #1 platform, but unfortunately, TRS failed at utilizing CE correctly and it shows in game. You CAN NOT change any graphical setting when you are in a match, you can't even change the resolution, now I would like someone to tell me what cryengine game doesn't let you change settings in-game. Oh and there is no console either.

Too bad, the concept and previous game by turtlerock made me curious about the game. Pre-ordered it a few month ago hoping for a great title. Pre-launch news were alarmist regarding DLC and lack of content in the game. It is indeed disappointing.
Red card for a game already abusing $€£ DLC on day-one.

The concept of team work and the unique gameplay is really cool and the graphics are nice along with the monster models but that's really it.

The game is heavily unbalanced towards the monster because he always gets **** on until you chose one of the better DLC monsters that can just mop. This game has BARELY any content. How did this justify $80 CAD at launch? For how many modes? 4? 5? 6? Don't even get me started on the maps and amount of monsters.

Combined with one of the monsters being kind of OP and substantially more frustrating to fight than the other two, and huge unskippable wait/load times between matches (averaging about 5 minutes) this game has fallen short of my expectations. Here goes my review:
Sadly I have to say I am disappointed and I feel scammed out of my money (I pre-ordered). We were promised a full game, while in reality we get like 40 % of the game for 60 $ and the rest is DLC that will cost you more than 100 $ to unlock if you want it all. That much DLC in a 60 $ title is a disgrace, and a lot of it is playable characters not just cosmetics.
Another problem is lack of variety, each character only has 2 unique skills, and you have 12 characters to play with, but they play the same other than their look, voice and those 2 skills, such as mines or gas grenades. Monster are way better and more unique but there are only 3 to choose from. There are more hunters and monsters, but all sold as DLC.
Maps are extremely boring and repetetive, which is a shame seeing that this is a game about hunting, so enviroment should be a priority. Each and every map consists of a small complex of buildings and a patch of wilderness surrounding it. Sometimes it's rocky, sometimes swampy and sometimes the rocks are covered in snow, but do not mistake it for variety, all the textures are equally gray and uninspired. Each map has the same animals and plants. There is only one original and fun map called "Aviary" which has a cool dome with tropical enviroment inside and winter outside.
I also sadly have to add that the game suffers from numerous bugs, the matchmaking is absolutely horrible, not letting you really affect what class you play as (you can choose, but the system overrides that easy 75 % of the time). Not enough players to find a match on an afternoon a month after release do not help. You often get kicked out of lobbies, the game tends to freeze or get you spawned under the map, the net code is a glitchy mess and should still be in beta. Cheating is rampant and leaderboards broken since day 1.
It's not all bad though !Balance is okayish for release day, no character is useless and nobody is truly OP. The monster gameplay really reward clever tactics and punishes mindless run-feed-fight mentality. The hunters rely heavily on co-op, so getting some friends is highly recommended.
If it gets on sale, get it. Otherwise stay clear of this disgusting cash-grab. The core game is fun to play, and the game would get probably 7 or 8 if not the huge issues that I described. 4/10

Firstly let's get one thing straight. Evolve is a true AAA title and the most innovative shooter in several years. It's addictive as crack and as replayable as any MOBA, if you like competitive games - go for it. It's worth every buck of its price.
Now, the details. People are **** in reviews about day-1 dlcs. Well they are plain wrong: there is NO day-1 dlc, there are a few cosmetic items (skins), and the default skins look gorgeous enough that you should feel no urge to buy anything, unless you're a hipster. These items actually cost less than any cosmetic in DOTA or LOL. 4-th hunter and monster tiers are indeed not in the game and a dlc, but guess what? They're not done yet! There is *no* dlc for gameplay content at this moment (there may be preorders for later such content).
While your enjoyment of the game surely will depend on team composition, like in any multiplayer game, the matches are fast and action-packed enough that you will never feel frustrated if you team sucks. Matches are limited by 20 minutes, most of them end within 10 minutes. Hell, I often end the match in 6 minutes! So you should never experience that excruciating DOTA-style rage against your teammates. If they suck, then you will just quickly loose and find another team. I almost always play solo and I find it pretty enjoyable, especially if everyone can use a mic.
Most maps are actually larger than in L4D2. They are not a maze like in L4D2 but an open space with obstacles, thus you can run around them much faster, but there is still plenty of space to hide and seek. Hell, sometimes playing as a hunter I feel like there is *too much* space! A good monster can easily hide indefinitely and it takes an equally good hunter to find it. So people asking for larger maps don't know what they're asking for. There are also more than a dozen maps and several game modes. Together with different gameplay tactics you can easily spend a hundred of hours into this game before it will truly feel repetitive. But hey, people spend thousands of hours on CS with just a handful of most played maps and same gameplay, on TF2 or on DOTA (which have *one* map). It's about the depth of game, not the quantity of its maps.
The bad thing about Evolve is that it requires a fairly modern PC. I have a 3-year old rig which is above the minimum, but below the required specs, and I sometimes experience framerate drops and occasionally game-breaking stutter even on low settings. So you need either a recommended level PC or some strong nerves to play it.

But, Evolve also fails in a proper price setting. Half of the game is fully unlocked, but the other half is limited and requires you to grind, or pay from your wallet. That is why Turtle Rock Studios should have made it free to play. Evolve has problems in the techincal department too, pop in textures in a crowded multiplayer mode, laggy movements during **** hits the fan sequences and muddy textures. Evolve is a game only for next gen devices, but the PC version looks way better than the PS4 version, I demoed at my friend's house. There are a lot of jerks filling up servers, so when you boot up the game, expect a 30 minute wait to get into a match. Evolve is online only, so that means you need a good internet hookup and plenty for friends to play with, otherwise it will be horde mode with creepy aliens for you, my friend. I liked the E3 announcement and got the game because of the ideas and interesting multiplayer modes. But, Evolve really gave me the lukewarm game I didn't expect. Assault hurts, support "supports", medic cures and trapper "traps", All of them are essential for the whole game. This team-work, apart from being essential, is amazing! True that Bucket may be a bit OP, though xD. Being the monster is also entertaining, although I prefer playing as a hunter. There are some original mechanics, as the fact that you have to follow footprints, or the flying birds which tell you where the monster is. I have an small complait, and that is the OP of wraith´s "duplication" ability, even though its good to have varied monsters, I think thats too much. Maps are ok, animations are ok, AI IS EXTREMELY GOOD. game modes are scarce, but good. Hunting, or the main game mode, isnt that special, but defence or nest are amazing. I guess that compensates it, even though there is a huge lack of modes.

The bads are that it iss extremely dependant on the ability odf the playeer. Some games will last 25 mins, and will be immersive and exciting, others will last 3 mins or 45, being a walking simulator. The biggest WTF of the game is its pricing. WFT, 2K, the game, for what it offers, should be a 30 € game, even a free to play (although thats asking for too much) and DLCs are, in total 37 bucks, like... are you even serios. We accept the lack of characters, monsters and game modes, but not this. NOT THIS. Bad, 2k, really bad! Thats the perfect way of ruining a game that would have been a breath of fresh air for the shooter genre. Just, ugh.

GRAPHICS: good, but not astonishing. I mean, its a shooter, 7.5
    SOUND: ok, 8
AI: Sometimes even better than real players, 9.5

ENJOYMENT: too much dependence on the ability of the player, 7
    PRIZING: 2

    MATCHMAKING: Satisfactory, 7
WEAPONS: Good, bot too scarce, 7

    THE BEST:
    -AI
    -Varied abilities

Not much skill required, no real resource management, the fights are drawn out and lack any real tension, nothing else on the map is anything more than food or a unwarranted distraction.

The basic idea of it is seducing. However, instead of nourishing their baby, Turtle Rock decided to spoil it with lots of marketing content. The matchmaking system is really poor since the start and has never been updated. Instead, they released stupid DLCs with useless characters, monsters and maps.
    Very disappointing.

I was initially really excited for Evolve, primarily due to the developers Turtle Rock Studios with their wonderful reputation in delivering an engaging and enjoyable co-operative experience with the likes of Left 4 Dead. Sadly this game is ruined right off the bat with a distinct lack of content and an inflated price thanks largely to the publishers 2K.

Evolve is a 4 versus 1 battle taking place on a small selection of maps in which the team progress by killing numerous monsters that spawn over and over in very mundane fashion. The lonesome player featuring as the Monster has to do the same on the other end of the map until both teams face-off in a battle to the death. The more kills as you move forward on the terrain; the greater your team and their strengths become. Unfortunately; the combat is exceptionally mundane with extremely dull shooting mechanics and underwhelming enemies. The lone player role is even more tedious as they are excluded from the co-op elements and most of the time just aimlessly killing to evolve their monster for the final battle. If you are featuring on your own; you will probably be fed up and want to leave the match before it's even concluded. This alone makes the concept extremely flawed.

Unlike the likes of Left 4 Dead 2 which was fast paced, frantic, fun, humorous and filled with additional material; Evolve is just another soulless modern FPS with a linear design and weak gameplay. The absence of modes and content within the base game is a major problem and a huge insult in the knowledge that much of it is being withheld to be sold down the line as DLC. You could almost say this game is unfinished in its current state and the additional material on the horizon is nigh-essential just to give the product some meat. Sadly this will set you back nearly £60 which is ridiculous for a PC game in this day and age.

Although you can participate offline and against AI; Evolve is a game that has to be played online for any enjoyment whatsoever. It is ultimately a product that is reliant on player traffic and you will need a number of committed friends who are willing to play regularly and at any given time just to ensure that you can play to a decent standard. However, I can see many people getting bored of this after a few days and turning to other titles which is a damning problem for the longevity of the game. By the time any DLC drops; this will probably be long uninstalled from your hard drive.

Overall; Evolve is a major letdown and a game ruined by a terrible DLC roll-out plan and a limited amount of content. The game itself is very poor but the amount of features available is the final nail in the coffin. After a couple of days; you will have seen all that's on offer as the game drifts into stale mediocrity. The publishers should be ashamed of themselves with their arrogant and ignorant execution of the product and even the developers have let themselves down after the unique and ongoing success they are still experiencing with Valve. This game is simply a ripoff of the highest order and further proof that the industry ethics from some companies are nothing more than a kick in the teeth to the loyal customers that blindly support them. Avoid at all costs.

There is no real campaign mode. You CAN run a solo game with AI controlling the other four characters, but it gets repetitive very quickly when you have to grind to unlock the sequential characters. To move up to the next tier, to unlock the next character in the sequence, you must obtain a certain level across your gear-set. My meaning is that, if you want to unlock the second Assault class Hunter, then you must level up all Markov's weapons and abilities. Though you may favor certain items, you must use everything to level up. So if you dislike using his Arc Mines; unfortunately, you just have to grind through if you want another character. It isn't skill based, just time.

As for the complaints pouring in on all fronts, the DLC. Yes, everything beyond the Season Pass is all cosmetic (Monster skins and weapons skins. Nothing to alter the look of the Hunters, themselves), but it is still needlessly expensive. Especially when you see the extreme lack of singe player content and customization. The customization, other than the weapon and Monster skins, is limited to the player emblem. Not exactly satisfying. You cannot exactly make your character your own. They should have taken a lesson from Zombie Studios' free-to-play, Blacklight Retribution. At least when using Blacklight's "Hero" characters you can select your weapons and skins can be used for weapons, gear, AND characters. It even has more content than Evolve. Which brings me to the multiplayer.

My verdict: It is obvious that Evolve is meant to be played only in multiplayer, why else would the "campaign" be nothing but AI controlled (poorly done, at that) version of the multiplayer. However, there seems to be an issue which it not allowing some players to use their purchased skins in-game. So don't count on all of your friends joining you soon. If fact, I foresee a massive flood of traded copies arriving in your local GameStop. Pick it us cheap, it may be worth a few buck (if they can work out the bugs).

Almost insane in it's design, marketing and execution. DLC: The Video Game (also known as Evolve) is a mediocre first person shooter (surprise surprise!) that brings nothing new to the genre other than lacklustre asymmetrical multiplayer and standard FPS shooting mechanics that are neither good or bad, just "meh".

No suspense whatsoever, no anything actually. You don't care who you're partnered with, you don't care about the skill development system which may as well have the word "mundane" plastered over the screen.

This is Titanfall, Destiny and every other FPS you've ever played and obviously are bored with completely rolled into one, but with one key difference - you don't own the game. You don't. Oh, you bought it alright, you're probably thinking "yes I do, look, it's there!" - but no, you own, what, 5% of the game? 95%, at least, is locked behind DLC. You want this game in full? Be prepared to pay £150 or something over the next six months. Not that, as a sane person, you would, because it's mediocrity personified, but this is what 2K Games wants you to do. Want a shiny new skin over your character models? £5 PLEASE. Want a new gun or something? £10 PLEEEEEASE...

This business practice will be what causes a gaming industry crash - it's a matter of time. Game companies are treating customers like braindead simpletons and it'll backfire obviously, as at some point people en masse will say "I'm not paying £50 for 5% of a game, especially a new IP that I have no idea about at all."

The positives? Graphically it's alright, but not amazing. Voice acting isn't particularly awful, but who the hell cares, really, as this is a game that should be a free to play shooter on PC or through PSN or whatever that has microtransactions to buy if you've played the game and enjoyed it.

WHY do game developers have an aversion to creating a quality game off the bat, full of content, then selling expansions and meaningful content if it's felt customers would go for it? The current practice of scummy companies like Ubisoft, EA and 2K are self-harming in the long term for short term gain, and they're too stupid to see it.

Delighted to see gamers rejecting this crap and scoring it 5.2 at the time of review - but that's not low enough. Give the middle finger to these cretins and reject this nonsense, as your money deserves some god-damn effort from developers.

The concept sounds cool, on paper, but in actual practice it can get stale fast. Imagine a competitive shooter where players actively try to avoid each other. Ya. There are ways that players can temporarily lock the monster down and prevent escape, but many matches still involve copious amounts of just running around.

Also, as many others have mentioned, the dlc model for this game is kinda horrendous. When the developers need to create complicated
graphs to try to explain their robust DLC model, we have reached a new level of absurdity. I'm still not exactly sure how much you need to pay to get all the current content in the game.

I just hope TurtleRock studios learns from this, gets out of whatever imbecilic deal they have 2k, and never again try to stick so much DLC into an already overpriced, unfinished game concept.

When you need a Spreadsheet to explain all of the purchasing options, then YOU FAILED as a Dev!!! and yes, this game IS a DLC simulator! one of the co-founders even said it: "this game was built from the ground up around DLC." then, another co-founder went into damage control and said, no it is not.

    WHO DO WE BELIEVE?

The base score is 1. Pay 15$ more to get "score 3 edition" or 30$ more to get "score 6 edition". Wanna full score experience? Pay me 69.99$ to get "the ultimate score 10 edition" of my review.

Can be fun, but the business practice is absolutely disgusting.

Yeni nesil konsollardaki başarısız portlama, sadece taktik bir shooter için 60$ tam oyun fiyatı, oyun çıkışına eşlik eden 100$+ DLC'ler bu oyun hakkındaki olumlu düşüncelerim tamamını sildi süpürdü.

This game is horrible regardless of it's pricing or DLC policy.
Back in 2001 we had AvP2 which featured 3 campaigns and a fully fledged, asymmetric multiplayer mode featuring very distinct styles of play and factions to play as, as well as multiple characters which controlled differently, not like this game where they are fundamentally the same but with slight differences from each other

This would be ok as a free2play game with microtransactions, but as a fully fledged product it's not worth your time and especially not your money.
Greedy market practices like this need to be punished.

I didn't question buying it. If its the same people who made L4D cant go wrong... right? . I bought it without question. That being said DONT BUY IT. Not worth the price or the DLC.

I have put around 62 hours into this game. It looks great. Great mapping, great worlds and creatures. However, it is really glitched. Game with friends constantly disconnects. Not just me. Everyone on my

I have put around 62 hours into this game. It looks great. Great mapping, great worlds and creatures. However, it is really glitched. Game with friends constantly disconnects. Not just me. Everyone on my team. You start over and have lost every point and xp from the previous game. Mouse cursor is visible during the game which is very annoying when shooting. Then when you need your mouse cursor for selecting characters and weapon setup the cursor is gone. its taking its union break i suppose. Had a couple people drop off map and get stuck. They should have used the $$ and personnel to make HL3. Multiplier IS the future of gaming but games like this will be as short lived as a bottle rocket. And a story line never hurt anyone! come on kids, get one. Critic reviews are mid to high. idk why. guess they aren't paid to write negative reviews. Take them with a grain of salt.

1)It gets really boring really fast.
2)extremely repetitive. so so so so so so so so so so repetitive.
3)No story line. They try to hint at one. fails.
    4) DLC. Pay more money for more monsters and characters to play the same repetitiveness. No, screw that. DLC only work for games that bring you something really new. Not, "hey. want a new skin for your old monster 5bucks please."

Evolve is unquestionably one of the best multiplayer games to arrive in the last few years.

When Evolve plays nice and doesn’t annoy you with technical problems, it is kind of fun, provided you play not more than one campaign a day. But, really, you can get the same fun in any decent f2p shooter. Like Team Fortress 2, for example.

Imbalanced and repetitive to a disappointing degree, but when it hits the mark it can be great. [April 2015, p.56]
