    Evolve is one of those very controversial games of recent years in regards to how it was marketed, both with its $60 price tag + the confusing DLC that they have implemented in.

    Looking at the game as a whole, it is a fantastically well made experience with great graphics, balanced gameplay, and one of the most adrenaline fueled co-op, or solo experiences if you are the monsters, that    Evolve is one of those very controversial games of recent years in regards to how it was marketed, both with its $60 price tag + the confusing DLC that they have implemented in.

    Looking at the game as a whole, it is a fantastically well made experience with great graphics, balanced gameplay, and one of the most adrenaline fueled co-op, or solo experiences if you are the monsters, that I've had the pleasure of enjoying for some time.This review is completely based upon of course my own opinions but primarily the quality of the game at launch. As above it is extremely well polished, gun-play feels fantastic, and playing as the monsters is simply one of the most exhilarating experiences I've had with new-gen games. Each hunter class is very unique and each have special abilities that must be utilized together with the others to beat down the monster successfully. That is one of Evolve's biggest strengths, is the co-op gameplay is simply superb. However to quote the Escapist review, it is also it's biggest weakness, as with any game relying on others, if you get matched with a poor team, and lose a few games in a row, it can be frustrating for some.

    On the concern of the amount of content available comes down to preference on game types and what you personally like. If you like a good story with good multiplayer, then this isn't for you. However if you like shooters, but also enjoy things like DOTA 2 or Leauge of Legends, this is a very well crafted in a sense first person MOBA on the idea of 4 v 1. I enjoy MOBA's very much which may explain why I feel there is more than enough content with 16 maps, multiple modes etc. compared to something like Leagues which when it came out had 5v5 and 3v3 modes, one map for each mode, it is a lot more content.

    I realize League of Legends and DOTA 2 are F2P which does change perceptions on things, as Evolve is a $60 retail game with optional DLC on top of it. The marketing this game deployed is something that has shown a light on how poorly publishers plan and how money grab they are, however I do not believe this detracts from what Turtle Rock Studios has made, as they have made an extremely well crafted, beautiful game, with fantastic gameplay that will at least keep myself and my friends entertained for months to come.    … Expand

    I played the game for about 5h now on PC MSI Laptop. Tech performance very good, graphic very good (Cry Engine), Audio good, gameplay/cooperation good, content average - I was expecting more here in terms of unlocking skills, characters, guns. The game type can be both hide and seek or fast shooter, it all depends how good you are as monster or Hunters. I think 8/10 is good score for me.

    I don't understand, why people are raging so much about the dlcs. Yes, you can spend money on a triple-a title. But all maps will be free and most of the dlcs are just skins nobody realy needs.
    Some people say, that this    Great Game. Played alpha, beta and a lot of games after the release and I am still enjoing it. Due to the bonues for winning in evacuation, each game feals different.

    So far I am having a blast. Monster controls took a little bit getting used to but totally worth it. The maps are gorgeous, I had fun playing every class. Gameplay for me is everything and this just about sets the standard. No match is the same. I have played matches that were short, some took a while. I can see why people may think this game isnt worth 60 bucks as is, but i have played many games that had a TON of stuff to do that were just terrible. God knows if i could get my 60 bucks back from Unity i would. :-). If you are a multiplayer kind of gamer its a must have. Even if you are not i would still highly recommend. 2k, and turtle rock have created something really unique. I truly believe gamers will be talking about this game for years to come.… Expand

    Awesome and very fun game. Better play with friends. Don t listen school-boyz with wooden pc's, it worth every dollar. Finally something fresh in multiplayer shooters.

    Look it is an amazing game.

    Don't listen to the ppl complaining it's too pricey or whatever. It is exactly what gamers expect of a shooter game to be - it is brutal, epic and to the point.

    The first people to come complain here are usually the ones who did not understand what they are getting into or what the game is supposed to be like.

    It is the top shooter of 2015! Mind my words.

    Evolve is a very fun game. The whole premise of a 4 person team against a monster is a welcome breath of fresh air for the multiplayer fps genre. I was bored with playing all the call of duties and battlefields out there. Although the initial learning curve is a bit harsh especially as the monster it is an extremely fun game. Making yu actually talk with the people in your game to work asEvolve is a very fun game. The whole premise of a 4 person team against a monster is a welcome breath of fresh air for the multiplayer fps genre. I was bored with playing all the call of duties and battlefields out there. Although the initial learning curve is a bit harsh especially as the monster it is an extremely fun game. Making yu actually talk with the people in your game to work as a team is vital and fun. The graphics are cool although the animals and killer plants blend in with the back ground a little too well at times and most of the maps look alot alike. The games runs excellent on ps4. With the whole progress system i feel like there's definitely alot to do. Most of the dlcs are just skins so who really cares. Peace out… Expand

    Turn the game on and playing it is a blast. Beat game ezpwrience ive had in a very long time. Yea their is a lot of DLC but ita not like a free to play game where buying the DLC is the only way you can win. Without spending more than $60 you could have fun for years. The reat is for the rabid fan.

    Play it and judge the gameplay for itself.

    I really enjoy playing as the monster and trying to level up as quickly as possible. The suspense of the hunters maybe being near by as you evolve is also very intense. Lastly, the battles once you are completely leveled up are so insane I almost doodoo my pants.

It's been described as "A videogame boss fight, in which the boss is player-controlled". This really changes things from traditional boss fights, making the game a whole lot more fun.
    There are 4 distinct hunter classes: Assault, Medic, Support, and Trapper. The hunters must rely on teamwork and coordination to take down the monster, which is able to "evolve". This "evolution" ability allows the monster to, essentially, get bigger and stronger. Matches start in favor of the hunters at monster Stage 1. Things shift to become balanced at Stage 2, and once the monster gets to Stage 3, it has the advantage (this doesn't at all mean that the Monster is overpowered at Stage 3).

    Evolve is an experience that can be described by the phrase "Easy to learn, difficult to master". There is a learning curve, mainly that deals with proper movement management for the Hunters and Monster, as well as teamwork. It is absolutely necessary that the hunters work together, at least outside of fights with inexperienced monsters. Once you learn the basics (and over the course of the first few hours of playing, you'll know what's necessary), the game becomes a whole lot more fun. The game deals less with having fast reflexes and powerful guns to kill your opponent, and more with executing a careful plan, on both sides of the fight. Sneaking up on your opponent, surprising them, doubling-back, etc. are all strategies the monster is able to employ to shift the balance in his/her favor. Hunters can use item combinations, such as the famous "Beam Team" employed by the support Hank and medic Val to heal a teammate and keep them invincible for a short time (Hank has an invincibility beam, and Val has a traditional-style MedGun).

    There's a lot of depth in Evolve. Different combinations of hunters and their respective items/weapons/abilities make for a lot of different strategies. Even with the individual hunters, some pretty cool ideas have been formed: for example, the Trapper, Abe, has a tracking dart pistol that can track the monster if it's shot at it directly, or if the monster eats wildlife that has been tracked. I played in a match during the beta in which the hunters and I (I was running Abe, then) ran with a strategy known as the "War of Attrition", which is basically killing all wildlife and tracking it. The match got really interesting, since we were employing this strategy whenever possible.

    The characters themselves are fantastic. Each of the hunters has their own fun bits of dialogue, and their designs are fantastic. All characters (monsters included) have a distinct personality. Lazarus is a stubborn, grumpy old man; Markov's a jolly, optimistic man who's obsessed with dying a glorious death in battle; and Cabot's the optimistic, great leader of the group (just to name off a few).
    Graphics are fantastic; this runs on Cryengine, so that's no surprise there. Even on lower-end hardware like the PC I use, I have next to no complaints. Anyone who's complained about the graphics really doesn't have any justification, in my opinion. Audio as well; great music, great sound effects.

    There's a lot of controversy surrounding the game for its DLC, and instead of explaining why this isn't an issue, I'll just leave you with this final point: you don't have to buy DLC.

    there's no reason to fault this game on for being like some other games, which games does not take forms and shapes of existing games? To me this is a fresh take an interesting idea which i have doubts of my own that it will not hold your interest for long also for being straight-out repetitive.

    the good

    Monsters
    Evolve! the monster mechanic is simple and intuitive, i just like the simple hunt n eat and evolve concept. it has its learning curve and its really not for everyone as the pressure to survive and evolve is sky high the moment you start. the tutorials are the best tips and i can tell you no other games explains the game to you for success like evolve does. when i got the combo right when caught in the frantic assault from the hunters, i managed to swipe the hunters at lv1. after unlocking the second monster kragen and using it was an entire new experience, needing to understand and play to your monsters strength.

    Hunters
    i have yet to unlock the second tier and i'm already excited on the prospect of using them, simple straight forward skills and rewards you when the combo is right, ambushing circling monster is really satisfying. Very distinctive combat role (so what its like team fortress?) which many players are getting the hang of it online which the experience from day 1 to 2 is really encouraging. i'm quite pleasantly surprised to know that there are 12 characters on default as i was expecting a rip off of just 4 and others as paid dlcs.

    VFX
    fantastic sound effects, booming sound on my steel series, i have no problem with the soundtrack which a review mention was stale, guess i'm overwhelmed by the intense battles and escapes going on to notice. graphics wise are good but nothing spectacular, its an average next gen looking game.

    Gameplay
    playing to your role is essential, loving it, nothing is overpowered and everything can be counter with environments and strategies. Really solid gameplay which is the core of every game, the weight and hard hitting moves are on spot. as i have mention i can't wait to play with the new weaponry of the other tiers of characters. Very helpful bots which i don't find in other game, keeps the flow going at all times.

    the bad

    lacking in monster evolving both in terms of design and skills, greatest down side of a game call evolve, its basically levelling up. i feel there's more dynamic to the hunters instead...i believe there should be at least a second tier of skills to each monster after evolving to lv 3. what a waste of concept...    … Expand

There is a lot of negativity around the DLC, which is expensive when totaled up, but will add necessary replayability to the game over the course of the next 2-3 years. However, the base game's content is easily worth the $60 entry fee, and no DLC is pay-to-win. In fact, all new mapsThis game is what I hoped it would be. A fun, engaging, progressive co-op / competitive multiplayer game. In fact, all new maps and game modes are announced to be free - only new Hunters, Monsters, and skins will cost more. And only if you want to play as them, you can play with them or against them for free.

    The game itself has launched smoothly. Very few bugs, and all matchmaking issues in beta have been ironed out. I enjoy playing as both Hunter and Monster, and the variation between each round is immense, and is what makes the game enjoyable.     Most of the negative reviews are not a fault of the game. They are the confusion of the customer not knowing how to read, or how to play a strategy game vs a COD style arena shooter.

    Also don't worry about getting the DLC. Just get the base game. You won't miss out on any game types, maps or fun! This game differs from COD and Battlefield, and most other games with DLC that end up dividing the user base. Wait for the Monster add on, or Hunter add on to go on sale. No point in getting them now as they are not even out yet.    … Expand

    Fantastic game, unfortunately there's a ridiculous amount of misinformation on the game. Anyways, very solid gameplay, amazing graphics, and an immense amount of depth and strategy due to the PVP nature of the game.

As a monster, you are one of those said beasts trying to hunt prey to gain armor and energy to (you guessed it!) evolve.

    The gameplay is rewarding on    Evolve is a game that when it's turning on all cylinders is an amazing online romp. The concept is fairly simple, you are a group of hunters, tracking, hunting and attempting to kill a bloodthirsty beast to save a colony from its wrath. As a monster, you are one of those said beasts trying to hunt prey to gain armor and energy to (you guessed it!) evolve.

    The gameplay is rewarding on both ends, as a hunter it's all about the teamwork. A good trapper to keep the monster from running away when it's armor is depleted, a medic to keep on the bounce and make sure the team stays alive, support offers boosts to damage and defensive boons and the assault grinds away on the beast until it is no more. Each class has three different hunters which offer their own unique way of performing their roles.

    The monster's game is far different, you start as a neonate creature looking to gain power and strength. You spend your first part of the game evading the hunters, hunting wildlife to raise your armor and eventually go from stage 1 to stage 3, gaining ability points to add into one of four moves. Each of the three monsters has a unique play style, the Goliath is a brawler with good armor and does solid damage. The Kraken is all about distance and precision attacks and the Wraith is stealth whirlwind of death at close range. Add in the environmental hazard like aggressive wildlife, man eating plants and pools of acid and you have a solid arena for combat.

    With only two modes at launch and a few connectivity issues, the game does fall short of a loft score of 9+, but is a solid experience online all the same. Lack of a true story mission does leave you wanting of what is an outstanding setting and back story, and while you do get some of that through pre launch banter and idle conversation from the hunters, you're left feeling more like an outsider that immersed in this fantastic world. As the monster you don't need to know your origins, you know you're hungry and that you don't like being shot at.

    It's refreshing that the micro transactions on this game are limited to cosmetic upgrades rather than content itself. However it's clear that this could become similar to games like League of Legends as new monsters will be through paid DLC(unless you pre-ordered the game.), no word if hunters will come after as well.

    Frustrating connectivity issues that occurred during the open beta last month are somewhat taken care of, but they still exist, but they seem now to be occasional hiccups rather than game breaking hour long disconnect-fests of January 2015.

    All in all this is a game that I found myself enjoying for hours upon hours with a random party who must have played a good dozen matches with me online. It's great fun working with your teammates and hearing them react to close calls and epic moves on the part of the monster or your fellow hunters and hardly worth the harsh criticisms that users seem to place upon it for one reason or another. While not game of the year material, a solid game through and through and will likely get better once the last few connection bugs are dealt with. I give this game an enthusiastic 8 out of 10, falling just short of a 9 only due to day 1 connection issues.    … Expand

    Everything is fresh and innovative in evolve , in perspective has more new content than many other games on the market, but you only see the DLC's in Store.

The DLC that is not out yet will have new monsters, hunters and maps as expected this age of games. The ONLY DLC that is out now are skins for hunters and monsters. EVOLVE finally gives players the opportunity to not only play as the human heroes trying to save humanity by killing that disgusting monster but the chance to FINALLY be the bad guy, and OH DOES IT FEEL GOOD! EVOLVE is a game that madeEver played games and wondered what it is like to be that huge hulking boss with multiple stages and takes a finely tuned strategy and skill to take down? EVOLVE finally gives players the opportunity to not only play as the human heroes trying to save humanity by killing that disgusting monster but the chance to FINALLY be the bad guy, and OH DOES IT FEEL GOOD! EVOLVE is a game that made large promises and did nothing but fulfill them. Chasing down the monster and working together with a team of four unique hunters that have synergy in hugely varying ways is fun and exciting. While playing as the monster is a completely different and unique experience ranging from paranoia and fear of being caught early at stage 1 to evolving to stage 3 and feeling like a god raining down rock and electricity on unsuspecting humans, and its FUN the whole time.

    The complaints about pricing are based on the grounds of a traditional game but evolve not falling into the traditional game category is what makes it so beautiful. No hold your hand story is present here but through the conversation pieces and short, and cool cut scenes the setting of Shear and the hunters role their is fleshed out. The hunters personalities are as varied as their skill sets with all of them having varying reasons for their being in this elite team of hunters.

    The three available monsters are hugely different with each one playing completely different. The first available monster is the Goliath who is all about jumping in and pummeling as many humans as possible and then getting out fast. By playing this monster the Kraken can be unlocked, which is my personal favorite of the three. This monster floats above the battlefield dishing out electric shocks aplenty with its skill set but once it is pinned down it is relatively weak. Finally the wraith is unlocked which playing against its toolbox of tricky escapes and stealthy tactics makes this monster extremely difficult to pin down and deal with but with its weak armor is the easiest to weaken early and throughout the game.

    for $60 dollars this game is going to keep me busy for a long time and I know for me and the rest of the hunters and monsters out their it was well worth dishing out the cash to learn all these new characters and master killing a monster, or FINALLY playing as that unstoppable boss and shredding four poor human players.    … Expand

All twelve hunters and three monsters are available in the base game so long as you are skilled enough to unlock them.

    Second, the only DLC that is currently available for Evolve are Monster and Hunter skins. The same exact thing that is sold in almost every game that allows you to customize your character. Also, the skins do nothing but alter certain portions of your character. They do absolutely nothing else. So, really, there is no meaningful day one DLC. Certainly nothing as nefarious as Ubisoft's attempt to split the game depending on who you preordered from.

    With that out of way lets get into the actual review of the game:

    Evolve is a multiplayer, action/FPS hybrid. You play either as a ghastly Monster trying to survive as hunters track you, or a colorful assortment of hunters trying to put the boot down on some ugly critter. You will get the most bang for your buck by playing with friends and diving into the multiplayer portions, though there are solo modes in which you can practice playing as the Monster or the hunters.

    Evolve shines with it's frenetic multiplayer action. Fights are generally fast paced, but this isn't your typical arena shooter. The monster can---and will---try and trick you. Games can last anywhere from a few minutes, to thirty, depending on the skill of the Monster and the players you're grouped with. The flagship mode Hunt is probably where you'll spend most of your time. Your objective is simple: If you're the Hunter, find the Monster and eliminate him...or survive until the time runs out. If you're the Monster, your objective is normally to destroy the power generator, though I find it much more delightful to turn the tables on my would-be hunters and turn them into oddly shaped blood sprays on the wall.

    A headset is a MUST, and if you don't believe me, try getting eaten by a plant---or being grabbed by one of Shear's nasty non-Monster critters---and having your entire team run away because they couldn't hear your character's death warble. You simply will NOT be effective when trying to communicate by using text chat. Games are won and lost by the communication of the people playing them. If you're not comfortable using a microphone, THIS GAME IS NOT FOR YOU. You're doing a huge disservice to your teammates by being incommunicado.

    Game performance is excellent: You don't need a monstrous(pun intended) rig to play this game, though every little bit certainly helps.

    There are a few bugs which I'd be remiss by not mentioning, however. The cursor can sometimes be visible when playing a game. Spamming the Steam overlay sometimes gets rid of it, as does deactivating it in the Steam settings entirely. Bucket's UAV drone controls are still as bad as they were in the beta, though I'm unsure whether this is a bug or by design. Certain character actions can bug out and show as not working when, in fact, they are. For instance, Hyde's flamethrower animation sometimes doesn't enable, even though he is in fact spraying flames.

    Matchmaking, for the most part, works flawlessly. A few games you might be chosen as the Monster even if you're in a party with friends. When that happens just cackle gleefully into the microphone as you eviscerate them and gulp down their corpses.

    Is this game for you? Ultimately you are the deciding factor when purchasing a game. Do you like multiplayer games where you MUST work as a team to win? Do you like being outnumbered, outgunned and on the run as you try and turn the tables on the people hunting you?

    Despite the minor issues listed above, this game truly is fantastic. It combines a novel idea with fantastic, synergistic gameplay in a way that hasn't been done before. Don't let the reviews of petulant children, who are often misinformed about the title they are bashing, dissuade you from playing a game where you DON'T need any of the offered DLC to enjoy it.    … Expand

This is a hunting game, and then name of the game is kill or be-killed. Evolve really taps into that primal sense of fear humans have burned into our genetic memory from millions of years of, you guessed it, evolution. Nothing gets your heart going more than crouching in a choice hiding place, praying that the hunters who've tracked you down will keep moving straight past. And when you finally consume and destroy enough wildlife to evolve into a level 3 monster, and it's time to take the fight to the humans, the pure chaos and destruction of the final battle just can't be topped.

    Some people won't be excited because you can't buy better weapons or shoot all the things and win instantly, but in terms of replay value and game growth, this one is a multiplayer winner. The requirement for teamwork and coordination is unparalleled, and after getting hammered into the ground a couple of times, you might find that setting up your mic and talking to your teammates might keep you alive a little longer.

    All in all, Evolve is all about cat-and-mouse; running and hiding from the cat until the mouse eats enough cheese to separate the cat from its spine in a satisfyingly gory fashion.    … Expand

    This game is a very fun TEAM oriented experience. If you play as a team it can be really awesome and rewarding to play. However, if you decide to be a 80's action star, then you are going to die and screw your other hunters over. This game is not perfect but it is an awesome multiplayer experience that i highly recommend to players looking for a team base game unlike COD.

    There's been a controversy regarding the DLC marketing scheme, and this has caused a lot of forum users to bash it. There's nothing about that that's related to how good or fun the game is. IMHO it shouldn't be a part of a review, but I bring this point to relevance because it wouldn't be fair to bash or not play this great game just because you think "it should be free" (sic), or that "the publishers are soulless moneygrubbers".

    -Toxic community where the other players only used chat to tell me how to play the game and called out they could see the monster when the monster was clearly no where to be seen.
    -Tutorial lied, the tracks never lead to the monster.
    -Plants are OP. I kept mashing 'E' but couldn't break out. A teammate finally caught up with me enough to kill it. It died in one hit so obviously I was about to break out.
    -Monster is too hard to solo. I'm going back to CoD where at least the boss fights are done with QTE.
    -Other players are too slow, and won't heal themselves. They kept asking me to heal them just because I was smart enough to play a medic. One even demanded I come and help him up and whined about strikes. I told him "3 strikes you out noob". I think he ragequit after that, definite noob move. No loss, he wasn't even trying to DPS he just kept throwing out this stupid blue dome.
    -Fairly certain killshot and KDR reporting is broken. The other hunters didn't congratulate me for getting the killshot. I certainly didn't get any XP for it.

    Kidding aside, I love the game. It feels like a lot of people just want to hate on it because they heard DLC and went rabid, and never bothered to check facts. Neither did any of the gaming news sites, who probably loved all the clickbait the DLC controversy caused.

    Is it for everyone? no. I'm sure 80% of the people who found it 'boring' wanted something that was guns blazing from the tutorial on.    … Expand

    I took turns with a friend. We played as hunters and we played as the monster. The game has cool features, like the replay of character positions on the map. The entire asymmetric multiplayer concept for this game is a great addition to the monotony of games that are currently available. The game felt balanced enough during the Alpha. I was able to win on either side.

    Replay value may come into question here. But then again, the same happens with a game like COD or BF also. As long as you're interested in playing online with people, you're good. This game is one of those rare cases where you can talk to your friends about that ONE game that was crazy because x, y, and z happened... Each round plays out differently - unlike a COD match where you do well or not and win or not.

    Give it a try if it sounds interesting. I'll probably buy this on PS4 so maybe I'll write a thorough review then.    … Expand

Each monster is completely different and unique, has strengths and weaknesses. Each hunter feels badass in it's own way.

    All in all, all the haters out there complaining about DLC and "Pay to Win" have not even played the game and are full of crap. The hype train is real my friends and they are just jealous!    … Expand

You can play as a monster, solo, starting off rather weak, and by carefully navigating the maps, eating wildlife and avoiding the hunters you can grow into this tremendously strong beast that can smash your opponents - this is endlessly satisfying. Or you can join a team of four strongly typed hunters whose job is to hunt the monster down and take it out before it gets too strong.

    Unfortunately for Evolve, just like other "AAA" releases it seems in recent memory, there is some reason that "the people" are jumping on the negativity bandwagon, and in Evolves case the gripe mainly appears to be DLC and pricing.

    To me the pricing for new monsters and hunters does not seem too bad given that any new maps are going to be released for free. This means you are actually paying for a new character and part funding of the new map development - I much prefer this approach to DLC as it does not split the community - if you choose not to buy DLC but you still get new maps for free. The skins are plentiful and pricey but I keep telling myself I don't need them........

    Anyway, I would totally recommend this game if you enjoy first person shooters. And if you do try it, give it a good go - many of us are so used to the military shooter that they are easy to pick up but Evolve is something very different. You will need new skills to hunt or be hunted and once you have it down it is extremely, extremely fun.    … Expand

It's fun and the different modes make for a nice get away from the traditional mode after thirty or so matches in a row. I love that in a game. Some methods work better than others.

    DLC. The thing most of everyone is crying about. I'll start off by saying that you don't need to buy -anything- to enjoy the game's upcoming content. Even if you don't spend a single penny, the upcoming maps are free, the upcoming modes are free, and the thing that isn't free is actually playing the new monsters and characters. Get this though... You can still play alongside people who have the new characters and play against the new monsters! Yes, you can use them yourself, but you can at least play with the people who are playing as them. The DLC is optional and doesn't exclude you from anything except actually playing the upcoming characters.

    That said, the DLC content is pricey. So yes, that is a con in itself. The fact I'm not forced to buy it and can still play games that involve it though? That makes me happy... And again. Upcoming MAPS AND MODES ARE FREE. League of Legends is a good comparison. Even if you don't personally own the champions and skins, you still see them in game. Evolve works in the same manner.

    Overall? I'm happy with this game and while I can't say I'll be jumping on all of the DLC due to the price, it's nice to know it won't hinder my experience. I know this was helpful for anyone who may of been on the fence about getting this game.

    I think one of the other problems this game has is that, you have to put some thought into what you do. And people nowadays just wanna press buttons and see their victory happen. They don't wanna work for their victory. The fact that people buy unlock packs for Assissins Creed and Battlefied, proves that beyond a doubt. They don't wanna work for it, they just wanna recieve.
    Then some complain about the lack of story in the game. YOU WERE NEVER PROMISED ONE.. IDIOTS...

    And here comes my review of it.

    Firstly: This is not a game for everyone. If you only play fast paced games like CoD, Battlefield, Blacklight and the likes and don't wanna "work" too hard for your kills, then this might not be for you.

    Im not gonna go into what you actualy do in the game, since people should know that by now.
    Just know that it is not a fast paced ultra psycho shooter. It takes time, patience and brain (something alot of young people don't posses). Communication and humor are also welcome additions to what people bring to the game.

    The game takes time to learn, mostly as a monster. The learning curb might be a steep, but you'll get there, if you are willing to give the game more than 1 or 2 hours of time, before you start whinning like a cry baby. The game can be very diverse, but yes, at the same time it can also be repetetive. It all depends on your point of view. If all you see, is you and 3 others hunting a monster, then yes. You will be bored quickly. But if you look beyond that, and realize that you are hunting a monster, played by someone else, and appreciate , the way he plays and the way your hunter teammates play, then it will be a whole different ball game. It is diverse in the way that people go about being the monster or the hunters.
    The game could possibly get boring pretty soon, if you have only played it in offline mode. It's funny that people demanded Offline mode, then they get it and complain that it's boring. Ofcause it won't be as fun as the online mode. A game like Evolve shines the most when playing online. And it's bullcrap, that people say that, you can only play it with friends. I had some great times during the Alpha and Beta. Only played it with random people i didn't know and there were some great moments. (fun fact: Swedes seem to be most talkative people around and including my country) There are some great chaotic moments in there. Just had one today. We engaged the Goliath in a crevice. Lots of stuff was going on all around. Hard to see what was going on with explotions and shrapnel flying everywhere, and out of nowhere, a tyrant comes out of the water and almost eats two of our hunters, while the goliath is trying to beat the crap out of us and the Tyrant at the same time. Good times i tell you.

    All in all i say this is a very fun game. It is for people who likes teamwork, that have patience and likes a challenge. It most certainly most enjoyable online, but i can see how it would become boring if people don't talk, SO TALK PEOPLE, be chatty. It is so much more enjoyable.
    It is not for people who aren't teamplayers and people that wanna get results without work.

The AI is, however, improved from the bots in Left 4 Dead. I used solo play to complete all the character unlocks and enjoyed the experience, but it pales in comparison to online play. There is a wealth of depth to the gameplay and each game feels unique and gets the adrenaline going. Expect a slight learning curve. Try not to blame game balance or other players when you lose (especially as monster). Appreciate that another play may be better than you. Enjoy a game that encourages you to get better and be smarter. Buying the base game now will in no way affect your gameplay experience and you will not be missing out on any launch content (honestly the cosmetic dlc isn't even that appealing).

    Again, the microtransaction page has no influence on the gameplay and is strictly cosmetic, probably forced onto a good developer by their source of financial backing. New Hunters and Monsters, which are substantial pieces of new gameplay, will cost money as they should. All new maps will be released for free. The price tag may be set higher than some would like in anticipation of the inevitable Steam sales. The community backlash to this stuff is beyond me, and is coming largely, I think, from misinformation. There is NO Day One content based DLC. The crusade to punish an industry that is trying to keep the base price of AAA games at its current rate, as cost of development is ever increasing and the valuation of games is plummeting as a result of Steam sales and App stores, by monetizing cosmetic customization from those who wish to purchase it, will ultimately be self destructive. We want a certain caliber of game but don't wish to pay for it. When a model is created that keeps the majority from having to pay more, we shouldn't be protesting. I hope, over time, the strong gameplay will have friends recruiting friends and eventually this toxic reaction will dissipate.

    I eagerly look forward to purchasing the new content as it's released and dream of this game developing a huge roster of characters and monsters. I would much rather see that happen than be forced to drop another $60 on Evolve 2 in the next year or two.    … Expand

    This is my first review, and I signed up just to defend this game. It's stupidly fun and addictive, so don't believe all the butthurt DLC haters. I agree it's not the friendliest marketing strategy, but the gameplay is so well thought out and balanced that I honestly don't care.

    I'd recommend playing monsters if you are lone-wolfing it, or hunters if you are playing with others. This game gets the sense of scale spot on. You feel like a little, squishy human when on the ground. In the world you are on, you are really at the bottom of the food chain. You are the soft, tasty morsels that the rest of the creatures eat to get big and strong.

    The monster on the other hand, feels massive. They are huge, they beat the crap out of the other creatures in the world, and then eat them to become more powerful. You ARE the top of the food chain.

    The game gives you that sense of power and size very well.

    The hunters and monsters are all distinct, but at the same time feel pretty balanced. An asymmetric game is NOT easy. That is why most MP games have the same units, or similar on both sides.

    Is there DLC? Yes. Right now, it is JUST skins. Nothing else. Maps, they say, will be released to all, so the player base won't splinter. Later, you can add more hunters and monsters. As long as items remain balanced, there is no NEED to purchase. Just optional.

    I find the number and diversity of the maps to work. Each map plays differently, and they are LARGE.

    Ultimately, this is a very good multiplayer, FPS game. I'd recommend it. Heck, I have recommended it to a few friends who have purchased it.    … Expand

Just imagine being hunted (as a monster) and being trapped in a small arena. Running for your life and being forced to fight back as a trapped animal is inherently intense! Albeit, this experience may not be for everyone, but I for one can take the    Pros:

    - The graphics from each monster, to hunter, to map, are stunning and extremely detailed. I appreciate how the game is built with a backbone to "evolve" and support 4k gaming. This somewhat makes up or the price tag, but 2k, I fear you are jumping the gun a bit and few general consumers will value/appreciate/afford this feature IMO.
    - The controls on mouse and keyboard feel great for hunters. The controls for the monster and can be polished slightly, but they are already very good for the monster.

    Cons:
    - Content feels a bit lacking for a $60 title. Compared to a MOBA, even LOL and Dota 2 and other MOBA's provided plenty of unlocked options for new players... and for FREE. Sure... your 4k resolution support means this game is next gen... and that character/content creation is that much significantly/exponentially more expensive to develop, but I find grasping that concept difficult as a general consumer. Also, you have instantly priced out a large portion of the starting consumer base for this game whom are accustomed to larger character selections of their free low resolutioned MOBA's.
    - Potential for being another Titanfall or Destiny/unsustainable user base/difficulty reaching user critical mass. 2k, I hope you've made the right calculations and have done enough research to that show that your focus on higher end consumers will end up being more profitable... and if so, I hope your forecast and estimated user retention rates are well considered. I bought this game for the experience, so the lack of content doesn't bother me since the level of detail and thought put into the available content is IMO breathtaking. Your game delivers in the experience department! Quality over Quantity. Really 2k, I get it, and for one appreciate it. However, if not enough people play, then there will be no experience. You are walking a very thin line 2k. And for the sake of my future adrenaline fixed monster bashes, I hope you've judged your target market correctly.

    Conclusion:
    - I must admit, with all the negative hype and complaints about DLC's, I am concerned about the long term player base and community for this game. However, assuming other players are getting the same kind of adrenaline rush I am, i am pretty doubtful this game is going to die like Destiny or Titanfall. I will always be looking for that next adrenaline fix, and few other video games deliver me this level of pure adrenaline. All the eye Candy and level of detail makes it so much easier for me to immerse myself into the atmosphere, which I cannot get from games like LOL or Dota 2 and other free MOBAs. There doesn't seem to be any other close contenders that offer this kind of experience, so I imagine this game is going to be taking a significant chunk of my time. I want to give this game 10/10 for the experience, but am unable to ignore all the negative hype. 2 stars docked, one for the current instability of the user/player base as seen in all the negative reviews about DLC's, and another star for how difficult you made it for me to sell this game to my friends. I am tempted to dock another start for the lack of content, but i just have to remind myself that it's the experience(adrenaline) I am truly seeking which your game more than successfully delivers, despite the limited and paid for character selection.    … Expand

Each class and character is unique and mixes things up significantly depending on how you have and how you are playing with.     The DLC problem that everyone is focusing on is simple, don't buy the DLC. You can still get the game enjoy the base characters and any new maps they will add. It works the same as all the dlc stuff borderlands 2 had, or any COD has had, BF4 had, and even the last two gears had. All the DLC stuff is adding a few extras down the line so they could give the game out now instead of delaying what is already done and complete ti finish a monster and 4 hunters.

    There is enough content here to justify the purchase for sure. There's a reason the only downside people are writing about is pricing, it's because the game is really good and poor business practices hindered it slightly. If you are a hunter, then Evolve forces you to play as a team if you want to win…and if you are the monster then your strategy is to escape, evolve, and then kill all of the hunters. In Titanfall you can around and Rambo…no need to play as a part of the team at all. Don’t fall for all of these negative reviews…they are from people who haven’t even played the game and for some reason are trying to damage Evolve’s reputation.     There are some negative issues worth to mention. Character choosing screen and loading combined before the game starts takes minutes. There are plenty of maps, but none of them are really memorable. There are some bugs, but nothing game breaking. And lastly, some things needs to be tweaked and rebalanced, but the game has been out less than a week so I expect things to change soon. Oh, and as the gameplay develops, the need for communication increases. Mic can be very helpful.
    Overall, I love this game. I got what I expected to get and when the DLCs come out, it will just get better. I will be playing this alot. I have played this game 26 hours now and I consider that a multiplayer game has been worth the money, when I play it more than a hundred hours. Shouldn't take too long...    … Expand

    I, myself, did get pretty annoyed by the skin store with micro transactions. But that was until i realised I actually liked the original skins more, and elite skins for hunter weapons are still the coolest of them all, so I decided to let that slide, even though I still think it should've been unlockable content.

    But the game is truly a lot of fun, especially when playing with friends. And if your friends are offline, you can always pick monster against a bunch of strangers, and that's really intense. You will be extremely paranoid, since the hunters are desperately searching for you before you stage up. And with good reason, For once you reach stage 2, you already become an extremely powerful beast, and if you reach stage 3, then it'll take a pretty coordinated team of hunters to take you down. And let's face it. It feels pretty good to wipe out an entire team by yourself. You are the monster. You are the epic boss fight they talk about the next day.

    And when playing hunters with friends, this game has really rekindled my long lost love called cooperative gameplay. In a lot of recent games I've played with my friends, I felt liked something was missing. We were playing together, we were winning and losing together. But we weren't all that dependant on each other. In this game, everyone needs to play their part, and communication is key. It's been a long time since I've played a game with my friends that was so dependant on good communication and tactics, and I absolutely love it.

    So don't listen to the haters. If you and perhaps your friends think that this game looks interesting, then go for it. I, and all of my 8 friends who bought the game definitely recommend it.

    (Just make sure to buy the game from another place than steam. I get why people may complain about the price if they buy it from there, but that's their own fault for not knowing how and where to spend their money.)

    1st: I don't even LIKE First-Person Shooters, and I don't have any intention of spending a lot of time playing as the Hunters...

    But the monster gameplay? ****

    The marketing for this game doesnt do it justice. Forget the commercials, just go on youtube as look up gameplay videos.

    I bought it on those alone.

    It looks great (even at medium settings), and it plays great with no framerate drops.

    Only bugs I encountered:

    A bit of texture pop-in when starting a match.. which is disorienting as the monster, since you get a headstart and need to scout your environment very quickly.

    and, the multiplayer servers bugged out once, and wouldn't let us into a new match after the old one finish. However, the deserter penalty for leaving a match at that point was only 60 secs, so not a big problem.

    The only thing, so far, that I would want to see is a seperate queue for guaranteed roles.

    As it is now, you prioritize your roles, such as:

    1. Monster
    2. Trapper
    3. Assault
    4. Support
    5. Medic

    and it'll match you on those roles. It'll try to give you your 1st choice, and if it cant it moves down the line.

    A queue for "I ONLY want to play the monster, and I'm willing to wait until then." would be nice, simply because, like I said, I don't like FPS's, and prefer the 3rd person monster experience.

    Evolve, like any other $60 "AAA" title is obviously a $60 game. Like every other "AAA" game, it is releasing DLC. You know what it isn't doing? Setting paywalls, separating players, and charging for maps.

    Maybe this is news to you? You don't have to have any of the DLC to play Evolve, it is a full game, and you can play with anyone regardless of the DLC that they have. In fact, you can even play as the DLC characters without having the DLC. If a player drops out, or you play with bots, you can switch to the DLC characters. Also, unlike every other "AAA" game, maps are free!

    Okay, I hope that handled your doubts about the DLC, let's move onto the game itself.

    Game-play - 9.5/10 - Evolves game-play is incredibly smooth, and all of the controls feel very tight. You play either as a powerful hulking monster, or a team of 4 hunters. The game is very well balanced and each hunter and monster has relevant strengths and weaknesses. The campaign (Evacuation mode) is a short series of 5 games, with over 800,000 possible randomized LARGE differences. The replay value of this game is incredibly high, and I do not see myself getting bored of it anytime soon. I feel that the game can almost be classified as a MOBA and it is definitely more entertaining, fast-paced, and dynamic than any MOBA out there. Teamwork is ESSENTIAL to your success as a hunter, if you prefer to play solo, the monster is a good choice for you. The only reason it gets a 9.5 is that, if you are playing as hunter, a teammate can grief you, or feed, etc. Which is a problem in every MOBA. Even my friends who are not interested in shooters, or my die-hard CS friends were incredibly impressed with evolves game-play.

    Graphics - 10/10 - The game looks beautiful because it runs on Cry-engine, the art is very well done. Occasionally the maps seem a bit too similar, but they each have defining features that make them unique. The monsters and hunters all look great. Better graphics than any COD, CS, or MOBA that will play.

    Sound - 9.5/10 - The sound is clear, and is essential to finding the monster. The voice acting is excellent and witty or relevant lines will be keeping you on your toes the whole time. The sound also functions as cues for the players on both teams. "Dome up" "Shield coming down" etc. The monsters roars sound incredible.

    Overall - 9.75/10 - Evolve is an amazing game, a unique masterpiece that deserved all of its awards at E3 etc. The progression system (unlocking skins/character mastery) manages to be enticing without feeling too grindy. You will not get bored of Evolve anytime soon.    … Expand

    if u bought the game in preorder its so much worth these 50€ because you get free dlc (15€) and free l4d 1 copy for steam(14€) IT is 21€ for game. I think haters should wait till price falls and first buy the game, then play it for like 4 to 5 hours and then **** review it ;)

People are overreacting.

    Evolve is a very addicting game with top notch graphics and endless amounts of fun. With the tutorial this game is very easy to learn the controls with. I like being the hunters because I like to work as a team with others. This is one of my favorite games I have played.
    Seeing the monster evolve over the course of the game is great.

    Awesome game.I expected much less, especially because it was very over hype and got it for 29.99 at Christmas but worth it. Surprisingly easy to learn (for me at least) and a bit repetitive but overall it's a good game.I can't stop playing it.

    PS.:ignore all the DLCs and the butt-hurt the DLCs causing.The game is not for everyone but doesn't deserve the hate it got.

    Should you buy it if that's the case? No. Should you add that detail when friends ask you if you suggest they check out the game? Yes. But don't go and give it a bad rating. What lies between all the hunting and evading, the roaring and the shooting surprisingly does work. The amount of potential you have for teamplay between the 4 out of 12 hunters that go after one of three monsters is simply stunning. The thrill evading the hunters as a monster is genuinely real and rarely have you felt the need for such finely tuned and well thought out movement with such a seemingly large and fearsome protagonist.

    Imagine you are Sam Fisher escaping a bunch of hunters that complement each other perfectly. Only that instead of Sam Fisher you are a moving, jumping, climbing house. Yes once again for some reason it all works.

    For once all I can say is, just play it. Play it to understand it. It isn't grasped in 3-4 matches.

    Wenn alle Spieler gut sind, wird es ein langes aktionreiches Spiel. Wenn ein Jäger oder das Monser schlecht ist, ist es schnell vorbei. Kommt es zum Kampf, wird das Spiel sehr schnell und aktionreich, alle müssen gut zusammen funktionieren.

    Das Monster zu töten ist schwer, es zu spielen rel. leicht.

    Abwechslung kommt durch die vielen verschiedenen Charakter rein. Jeder "Jäger" (3 pro Klasse) spielt sich komplett anders als der Vorgänger.

    Positiv ist meines erachtens gerade, dass das Monster so schwer zu töten ist. Man muss wirklich gut zusammenspielen, sonst wird man gefressen!

    Nicht SOO gut gelungen ist die Minimap und es gibt zu wenig optische Abwechslung in Sachen Maps. Auch wenn Sie unterschiedlich aufgebaut sind, sieht irgendwie doch jede Map aus wie die davor. Hier muss sich auf jeden Fall noch etwas tun!

    Das mit der "DLC-Politik" kann ich nicht bestätigen. Wer UNBEDINGT eine blau anstatt eine "normale" Waffe will und sich deswegen ein DLC kauft ist selber schuld, es sind halt nur Skins.    … Expand

    After 20+ hours of game time, I still haven't unlocked all of the characters available in the base game - not because unlocking them is a chore (it isn't) but because I just enjoyed playing the characters I already have that I just haven't gotten around to attempting to unlock the others.

    There are plenty of modes and four match types with varying objectives, while Turtle Rock hinting at additional variants being available for free in the future.

    Yes the DLC is too expensive, but no one is forcing you to pay for it at all. If no-one buys it, 2k and Turtle rock will get the message and be forced to change up their strategy.

    Best played with friends. Cat and mouse with perks. Day 1 DLC is cosmetic, future DLC is for further features. However if stock is bought all features are unlocked for everybody off the bat.

    Bit pricey, which is what prevents this getting higher than 8, but whats there is good. Dont listen to the hype, try it yourselves, i thought i would hate the idea this game brings but turned out i like it.

I was extremely hesitant to get the game at such a high price, but I was able to play in the beta version of game, and enjoyed it so much that I did purchase the base game (three monsters, twelve hunters - the only ones currently available to play in game). And I've not regretted it. I've had an amazing amount of fun with just the three medics, and I'm looking forward to unlocking the other hunter characters in the other classes and learning how to play them. I easily see myself sinking a few hundred hours into this game without getting bored. Not to mention learning to play the monsters, which have a whole other learning curve to go through.

    Balancing - I hear this both ways, people say the monsters or hunter are either too easy or too hard to play, either the hunters are overpowered or the monsters are. In my opinion, based on the numerous hunts I've participated in with both incredibly skilled monsters and very unskilled ones, with a great team of hunters and terrible ones, they're fairly evenly balanced. A lot of whether or not a hunter or monster is "overpowered" or not depends on whether that characters play style suits the player. Even hunters in the same class play very, very differently. Some suit a player, others don't. When they suit a player's play style, they can seem overpowered, but it's really just player skill. Some times it's also a matter of player mood. A lot of people say Lazarus is the weakest medic, but I play all three medics fairly evenly. I don't find any one of them any better than the other. Which I play depends a lot on the mode of the game, and my mood when I'm playing. I play Val when I'm prefer to stay out of the main battle and aide from a distance, I play Lazarus when I'm inclined to be sneaky and stealthy, and on defense modes, and I play Caira when I prefer to be running up at the front lines. I've had great battles with all of them against good monsters (including the wraith). That said, it took me suffering through many a terrible battle when I first started playing Lazarus, until I figured out how to play him properly. Now I find him just as fun to play as any other the other medics. This goes the same for the monsters, some will suit your play style others won't. I saw I guy struggle with Goliath during the first four rounds of an evacuation match, only to unlock the Kraken in the last round and pummel us all the first time he played it. I've seen other players do terribly at the Kraken because they can't coordinate all it's long ranged attacks. The only exception to this is the Wraith, which does need some adjusting done to it's balancing, as it is currently very difficult for a less than proficient hunter team to take out even a reasonably skilled wraith player, but it's by no means impossible. That said, the game is barely a week old, and there will be sure to be balance tweaks soon enough to fix any balance problems.

    Game play pacing - Some people complain that the game is boring and repetitive, or has too much "chase" time playing the monster. I disagree with this completely. If you're bored with this game, it is either because you're not playing it right (AKA you're not taking the time to learn how to play your characters or you're not playing as part of a the team), or because this is not a typical first person shooter. I personally do not like first person shooters. I find them annoying, boring, repetitive and generally lacking in any kind or actual necessity for player learned skills and tactics. Yet I love Evolve. This is the first game I have ever felt like I was reasonable competent at as part of a team, and it is precisely because it isn't just a "shoot everything that walks by" type of game. In fact, if you spend the game shooting every wildlife animal that crosses you're path, you'll never catch the monster, and likely will get yourself killed a good number of times and irritate your teammates who have to keep coming back to revive you. It's better just to hop over them all and keep chasing. Learning how to predict the monster's movement, communicating with and working together effectively with your team (push to talk comes in handy here), and knowing how to play your specific character (hunter or monster) all go a long way to succeeding in Evolve. Evolve is not a typical shooter game, and in my opinion it shouldn't be. The fact that it isn't like every other shooter game out there is exactly what I like about it. If you want to play a typical shoot em' up game there are plenty of other games out there for you. Evolve is not one of them. It's a game of mind games and stealth and tactics and teamwork.    … Expand

If they sold it cheaper, it would be even "worse" than most of you claim it is. For any game I plan on playing for a while, I always buy the "DLC expansion pass" because it's worth it in the long run and saves you money. Not to mention there are other sites that buy the game and bulk and you can actually get it cheaper than the$60-$80 if desired.

    Now that that is out of the way, on to game play.

    I never really was a huge fanboy of the developers, although I did enjoy the Left for Dead games. I keep reading how people are calling it "repetitive". While that is true in some aspects, I have had precisely ZERO games that turn out identical or even close to it. Just because there are only a minimal amount of characters and monsters (right now... there will be more) doesn't mean it's repetitive. Is Call of Duty repetitive? Absolutely. But does it succeed? Yes, because the player versus player aspect keeps it fresh and you can always expect something different. What I'm getting at is games are what you make them. I honestly could care less about 99% of game story lines, so my opinion on this might be skewed a little. I find the game play to be extremely fun and unlike a lot of other games I play. The comical remarks the hunters make before leaving the jump ship are enough for me.

    I play with friends of mine, which makes it that much more fun to coordinate splits, cut offs, and calls while hunting the monster. I find this is where people might be going wrong, playing with the random people. Playing with friends always makes games more enjoyable (in my opinion). While some people may be fine with that, I am a competitive player, and like to know that I have the best team going into the fight with me. That's hard to come by when you get qued as a undesired class with people who don't coordinate well (or at all).

    Last point I'd like to make is, your negative reviews with little detail doesn't help improve a game, all it does is make it worse. I can honestly say that I can't think of a game that I would rate 0/10. If you truly believe that it deserves 0/10, go into some good detail. When you realize you can't go ahead and bump it up to at least a 1. Stop being butthurt about the price and play the game for what it is or don't buy it. You're only hindering the developers by not giving useful feedback. I would have rated this a 9/10. but since everyone who seems to not have enjoyed it rated it lower than they should have, I will rate it higher than I should have.

    TL;DR

    Games have been $60 for a long time. They're only going to go up. Get used to it. Games are cheaper than ever.

    The game isn't truly repetitive, PvP combat makes every match a unique experience.

    It's a lot more fun to play with friends that you can coordinate with; it's a team based.

But as with many games released in current years I can't help but feel as though it came up short of what it could have been. The biggest issue with Evolve is the disappointing lack of content upon release. Offline you're restricted to a tutorial and quick match mode that acts as a practice zone to hone your skills before jumping online. This is where the meat of the game takes place, but sadly that meat leaves your inner monster starved.

    At launch you have a total of twelve hunters and three monsters available. You'll begin with one of each and will need to unlock the others by leveling up the starter group. This is done easily by using each character's skills during matches. For the tracker, my personal favorite, you need to follow your pet trapjaw, successfully deploy traps and deal damage with your rifle. After you get the hang of your class's skill set the leveling process shouldn't take all that long. Each new character has a new set of skills that generally serve the same function, but do so in different ways. Outside of the characters there are various maps and game modes. You can jump into a quick skirmish which is your standard hunters hunting the monster, or you can join a five game set with several game modes such as rescuing civilians or protecting power generators. This five game set has a ton of possible combinations; over 800,000 according to the game itself. The problem I've had with this idea of unlimited replayability is that often the games, regardless of map or mode, devolve into a simple game of kill the monster before it kills you.

    Perhaps more time with the game will unveil some interesting tactics that make each match a unique experience. But thus far that isn't the case. I can't tell you how many different maps there are, because I can't really tell the difference between maps. This is a slight exaggeration but the point remains. I haven't noticed different maps creating different strategies or giving us exciting new aesthetics. This is a missed opportunity as a game taking place on different worlds could have given us exceptional environments. Instead we're given jungle after jungle with some complexes and caves scattered within. The wildlife within the maps does give an added layer to the hunt. Whether you're the monster or the hunter you need to remain vigilant of what is around you. A team of hunters that splits up can easily be picked off one by one if they aren't careful of where they're stepping. You'll also want to keep an eye out for albino wildlife as they offer buffs to the group that manages to down them.

    One thing that I simply can't get over is the excessive amount of DLC Evolve offers at release. Already a full priced game at $60 there is an additional $60 worth of skins that can be purchased, or less if you go ahead and grab the season pass. DLC like this shouldn't really be an issue as its purely optional, but its somewhat frustrating to see how much of it there is when the game itself suffers from a lack of content. If you're going to release a game with purchasable DLC then you better make sure players feel like they got their money's worth with the original $60 purchase. Its unfortunate, but it seems to be the trend in games like this.

    While this review may come across as a little harsh, know that I truly do enjoy the game. Its a ton of fun and can be a satisfying challenge. Its always refreshing when a game attempts a new approach and its exciting when they manage to pull it off. The online-focused nature of Evolve will keep you hooked for hours, and with the expectation of future content such as more hunters and monsters it shouldn't wear out its welcome as long as it has Turtle Rock's support. Evolve is the absolute greatest multiplayer experience I have ever had. Every detail of this game has been painstakingly crafted and balanced to the point of perfection. I am in awe of the replay value of this title and honestly, I would have paid over $100 for what I recieved in the base package for $60. I can only hope that Turtle Rock and 2k Studios supports this amazing title with more DLC for many years to come. My wife and I spent the whole weekend watching streams, tournaments and playing Co-Op together with her little brother and nephew.     I've played the game since launch and I think it's a blast. The PVP aspect of it is very competitive and there is tons of strategy to it. The maps are extremely detailed and everywhere on the map brings a different strategy if a battle breaks out there.     I honestly don't get the amount of hate this game is getting. There is a ton of day 1 DLC, but i don't see the issue as it is all just skins. If you don't want them, don't buy them it is that simple. It is a nice option for the people that are interested in that sort of thing.     The game itself I find really fun, especially when you have a team of friends to play with. It does have a bit of a learning curve just to figure out how to best use each class and figuring out who suits your play style the best but after that is worked out I have almost no complaints about this game. If you are unsure about the game the only thing I can suggest is just to watch some game streams on twitch.tv or something to see how the game really is to better judge it as these reviews are all over the place.

    My only complaint would be it is a full priced game that only includes multi-player. It would still be worth its money in the time you could put into the game but this is the kind of game I would have liked to see how the story would have gone.    … Expand

Bleak atmosphere, cool characters, badass monsters, original weaponry,... This game will make sure you'll have lots and lots of intense fights whether you prefer to play as a hunter or as a monster.

    It has quite a steep learning curve. The metagaming in this one is strong. Good team composition and communication is key to survive the horrors of Shear.

    I paid a mere 28€ for the Monster Edition of the game (keystore FTW) and another 17€ or so for the 'Hunter Season Pass' (they should have come up with a better name for this as this is 'season pass' thing is just a full on lie). So in total I didn't spend more than 45€ on this game, which I think is more than a fair price for the fun I've had until now.

    If you're a DLC cryhard, don't buy the game now. Buy it when there is a sale. At 40% off (or more) you simply cannot go wrong with this.    … Expand

    Great and unique multiplayer experience, steamrolled by a sh*tstorm-hypetrain. DLC is no reason to rate this game down because the main-package is "exactly" what was promised since months and no one is forced to spend money in DLC afterwards.

    Why don't more people like this game? Recommended by a friend, I tried it and we share Steam libraries. It's an awesome game where it's like L4D but shooting for survival against intense creatures. Sad it didn't take off, give this one a try!

    Evolve Stage 2 review : July 2016 . This game in Free to play is cool ! it as many different classes, great gameplay and few (none?) bugs ! :o for 0€ it's a great game even playing with friends with 5 slots :) this game was inspired by godzilla/ unreal tournament/crysis and ... left for dead :D

    When Evolve plays nice and doesn’t annoy you with technical problems, it is kind of fun, provided you play not more than one campaign a day. But, really, you can get the same fun in any decent f2p shooter. Like Team Fortress 2, for example.
