It always comes around with another crazy idea. You are never able to anticipate a new battle which keeps the principle fresh

If you still haven't played this hidden gem you're missing out a lot. Soundtrack 10/10 and the undertale like ton is pretty damn good

The game outshines by its battle system with Psychedelic visuals and the story. People that play it might have different feelings about the game as it’s story is quite open to interpretation but overall the game does its job on providing a good experience.

It takes around 6h to complete but it’s battle mode adds a value of replayability which is always nice to see in this types of video games that focus more on the story, this battle system also allows for mods to upload their own battles.

The gameplay and the battle system is a mix between Guitar Hero and Undertale but it does it’s job as one of the main strong aspects is the soundtrack and the visuals which fit really well into the game’s aesthetic. Tho the jumps are too short which might make the game more difficult for casual players as the battle system depends on evading obstacles and returning those obstacles after a certain point in the story. But the player can still do barrel rolls for more safety.

In terms of story, it’s quite open to interpretation tho it has multiple endings that make us understand more the background of the protagonist and some of them even making us spend 3h running on an empty corridor. But the main storyline is what makes this game so memorable at the end as it showcases some of the more deeper meanings of the game. Some of them related to death and confronting it.

Overall it’s a good game that I recommend to everyone that wants to play something different to the current standard and use it as an excuse to try psychedelics.

PS: Playing this game on any Psychedelic substance might improve the experience of the game.

What if Undertale was neither clever nor fun? Everhood, that's what. I mean, come on.

If you tried Undertale but thought, "What if the dialogue was half as good and there was twice as much of it?" then you just might be able to tolerate Everhood.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Perhaps Everhood is one of the weirdest adventures I’ve had when it comes to my time playing videogames. I’ve been to many planets, explored various dungeons but never found myself in a cosmic hub, staring down at doors which talked to me and told me about their destinations until I played this game.

I guess the best way to describe Everhood is just the word weird, but it isn’t weird in a bad way, it is weird in an amazingly good way, it makes you think about various topics some other people would avoid because of the paranoia it causes them this topic being existentialism.

Going into the least amount of spoilers possible I will say that we’re confronted with the choice of killing those who we bonded with, those who trusted us and called us a pal, but only one choice will be the correct choice in the end as the other will bring suffering to everyone including yourself.

I give this game a 10/10 because of the music, the sounds, the ambient s that we are presented with and the memorable characters that I just can’t get out of my head as well as the challenges to come.

Underwritten, overlong, and without a single moment of adequate gameplay, Everhood is an intensely self-congratulatory game with nothing worthy of congratulation.

This will be a cult classic as soon as people find it. It's almost a different angle on Undertale, with some intentional similarities paired with significant subversions and Guitar Hero meets Bullet Hell gameplay. Absolute blast, time flies by.

It's like if Undertale took a load of psilocybin. It's fun, the story and music are great, and I had a helluva ride with this one. I will deduct a point or two because I felt the hit detection in some of the fights was a little unfair.

Faux-deep story, and weak gameplay. The "rhythm" combat sections are more of a visual spectacle than good gameplay. You don't play to the beat, the attacks come at you (roughly) to the beat. You only interact with 1-2 lanes out of the 5 at a given moment, so most of the pattern doesn't matter.

The achievements are the worst kind possible. Don't even try them. Not because they're

The achievements are the worst kind possible. Don't even try them. Not because they're hard—they're just a boring waste of time and they'll shorten the lifespan of your input device (controller / keyboard). Doing the bosses no-hit is a huge chore, more a test of patience than skill. Getting hit once in a 5 minute "fight" means you have to restart from the beginning, and the first 3-4 minutes are tedious. In some segments you just stand still for 10 seconds at a time because the pattern doesn't touch the column you're standing in.

The achievement for jump-rolling 150,000 times shows the low brain activity of the developers. It's not interesting, challenging, or fun. Why not increase the number to 150,000,000? That'll teach people to play the game. Your keyboard or controller's buttons are rated for a certain number of pushes per key/button before failure. All you'll get for "achieving" 150,000 jump-rolls is an input device that needs a replacement part sooner.

This was a pretty eventful and probably one of the best rhythm games I have played. I can see why everyone compares it to undertale(especially the 4th wall parts which is like 70% of the game) but let's not forget that undertale was inspired by Earthbound and Earthbound was inspired by Pong(the greatest game of our generation). Like **** they were some really grooovy , some really broken and some really awesome songs that made you keep on playing even if you kept on failing cuz some of the levels were hard but with enough determination(see what I did there , hehe) you can beat the game.I enjoyed the story and some of it's characters but they weren't very fleshed out so I couldn't really care about them that much especially in the so called wholesome ending(but with a really dark twist which was BRAVO). The developers were also most likely on drugs when making this game and I enjoy the fact that they really hate people with epilepsy. Anyway definitely recommend this at full price. Expand

Its a worthy concept, and at least an interesting twist on the RPG format, but dodging out of the way of musical combo "blocks" over a trippy guitar hero-esque rolling music sheet isn't exactly up to the sheer breadth and overall better quality writing on offer in other more unique indie Action/ Turn-based RPG's released within the last few years. Undertale is still a crowning achievementIts a worthy concept, and at least an interesting twist on the RPG format, but dodging out of the way of musical combo "blocks" over a trippy guitar hero-esque rolling music sheet isn't exactly up to the sheer breadth and overall better quality writing on offer in other more unique indie Action/ Turn-based RPG's released within the last few years. Undertale is still a crowning achievement simply because it does a lot with very little, Everhood feels like the inverse is happening- a larger team of developers purposely added flourishes of visuals in contrast with a minimalistic approach to everything else. Even the animations aren't particularly that interesting during fights, so even if the characters designs are rather creative and charming, they are easily forgotten when compared to the soundtracks they just happen to accompany. Everhood is kind of one concept stretched a little too thin, and with its story being so barebones it has to fall back hard on its one gimmick which isn't really that well made to begin with. The note-dodging unto itself is a little odd on the timing, which might turn some people off who are just looking for a fun alternate roleplaying experience. Otherwise its "quirky," and that's very in right now, which is kind of a shame since the end of game ends up being kind of a pretentious cavalcade of ideas thrown in right at the last second and sort of detract from the initially interesting introduction. Okey, this game is amazing, but its too long a bit, last part of game is definitly too long, to be honest its one of the best indie game this year. Combat system is fair and challenging. Great plot, but the backgrouds are pretty ugly. This is not crypt of the necrodancer, its ulgy undertale cousin with great combat system. Check it, you will enjoy it.

It's good, but it's really mediocre if you directly compare it to Undertale. The rhythm stuff is fun and the story and cast of characters were really enjoyable. Unfortunately, the game makes you think it's about to end for the entire last 2 hours of a 6-hour playthrough before it finally puts you out of your misery.

Very unique game in everything it wants to do or say, very engaging combat and good humor, I know it takes a lot of inspiration from Undertale but it takes those elements towards an interesting and more compelling direction imo

The only criticism that i have is the inclusion of the cat god like why the hell did they add it its so unnecessary and ruins the entire story like wth

Chris Nordgren and Jordi Roca created something unique and delightful. Everhood’s music-based combat system is absolutely brilliant in its simplicity and addictive as hell, the soundtrack is stellar, and I enjoyed the surreal atmosphere and the story which often breaks the fourth wall. It’s a gem you should definitely play. [05/2021, p.30]

Everhood is a fantastic freshman effort that brings unexpected and refreshing spins to both the RPG and rhythm genre. The creative combat system and repeat-friendly soundtrack are definitely strong points but the thought-provoking story elevates the unusual adventure to excellent heights.
