Dec 1, 2025Escape From Tarkov has changed significantly on its road to release, but there's little doubt over this being the best that Tarkov has always been. The story mode adds depth and meaning to the game in ways that were sorely missing before, making its standout environment and gameplay actually matter. It may not be the prettiest or the most approachable game, but Escape From Tarkov looks set to remain the premier post-apocalyptic first-person shooter in the market for the foreseeable future.

Nov 27, 2025Singularly unforgiving, dizzyingly complex, and like no other FPS out there: the extraction shooter's extraction shooter.
-
Nov 26, 2025Escape from Tarkov is a solid extraction shooter born in 2017. Despite its technical limitations and uneven balance, version 1.0 confirms it as a unique, intense, and persistently engaging hardcore tactical FPS. It's not for everyone, but that's precisely what makes it special.

Nov 23, 2025Escape from Tarkov may have spawned an entire genre, yet it remains one of a kind. Its complex mechanics, visceral gunplay, and unpredictable pacing aren’t for the faint of heart, but with the release of 1.0 on Steam, there’s no reason for fans of hardcore tactical shooters not to enlist.

Mar 16, 2026As other hardcore shooters, it can be rough around the edges, with technical issues and an intimidating learning curve that may push away more casual players. Yet those flaws are often overshadowed by its unmatched tension and deep systems, where every raid becomes a high-stakes gamble and every piece of gear tells a story of survival. Escape from Tarkov isn’t an easy game to love, but its intense realism and unforgiving design make it one of the most distinctive shooters of its generation.

Feb 12, 2026Escape from Tarkov is considered the pioneer of the extraction shooter genre. One of the longest-running games in the Early Access program, it released its final version in November 2025, along with the highly anticipated 1.0 version, marking the end of several years of genuine success. It has its rough edges and a few bugs that shouldn't be there, but the overall experience is unparalleled. It's the most hardcore game in the genre. It demonstrates that there's a large player base willing to face the toughest gameplay conditions. The reward tastes sweeter than in other games, no matter how many times you fall. No one knows what the future holds, but Escape from Tarkov certainly has another decade of enjoyment ahead.
-
Dec 11, 2025It's clear that Escape From Tarkov has great qualities, but it demands too much time to understand and engage with the various gameplay systems involved. While the experience can be fun, the game might not be for you, depending on your preferences.
-
Nov 26, 2025The prototypical extraction shooter, Escape from Tarkov is a shooter I've been playing for the past decade and will be playing for years more. Sublime firefights and just-complicated-enough mechanics make this a great game to lose yourself in, but the immersion only lasts until you need to check the Wiki, which is constantly when you're just starting out.
-
Jan 14, 2026Escape from Tarkov is a game with many flaws and limitations. And yet, its formula — which helped lay the groundwork for the extraction shooter genre — is extremely addictive. It’s not a game for everyone, but in its 1.0 version it stands as an almost essential title for fans of the genre.
-
Nov 24, 2025Escape from Tarkov's world is unforgiving, and is definitely not for casual play. Yet, its the challenge and engaging gameplay that makes it all the better. It's still weighed down by bugs and glitches and connection issues here and there, as well as the disappointing lack of (free) PvE, but it's a solid FPS extraction game for those looking for an extra hard challenge.
-
Dec 15, 2025Escape from Tarkov offers daring and somewhat masochistic players a highly immersive video game experience within a dystopian, realistic, and believable universe. Battlestate Games' extraction shooter stands out from other games in the genre with its uncompromising vision, intense gunfights, and rich content. However, only veterans can truly enjoy version 1.0, as they completely dominate the exclusion zone. EFT is primarily aimed at this elite group and shows little empathy for newcomers, who are likely to rage quit out of sheer frustration. The game also suffers from a real lack of optimization, a counter-intuitive interface, and unreliable matchmaking. These are all flaws that shouldn't exist in 2025.
-
Nov 24, 2025Escape From Tarkov might have been one of the first major extraction shooters, but the genre as a whole still has a lot to learn from its core gameplay and how it builds up tension.
-
Nov 24, 2025The underwhelming release version of a shooter classic that shines mainly thanks to its mercilessly realistic atmosphere.
-
Dec 2, 2025As the hardcore pioneer of the extraction shooter, Escape from Tarkov is still quite compelling, but it's also saddled with issues that range from technical problems to pay-to-win monetization.
-
Nov 20, 2025Escape from Tarkov delivers unmatched realism and punchy audio, but it’s still a ruthless, cluttered challenge with big technical problems. If you’re after an ultra-realistic shooter, this is the one — just be ready to treat it more like a lifestyle than a quick gaming session.
-
Dec 2, 2025Escape from Tarkov offers a unique and extremely intense gameplay experience driven by its atmosphere and the constant tension of every shootout. However, this potentially outstanding experience is systematically undermined by a catastrophic technical state, unstable servers, cheaters, and a design that too often confuses “hardcore” with outright hostility toward the player. The result is a game that comes close to legendary status more because of its reputation than the actual quality of its 1.0 version.
