Dec 7, 2020The story begins as simple as a tale of revenge can be. After their house is burned, the mom leaves the kid in the care of some priests in a monastery nearby and goes alone to the bandits’ lair, finding a lot of dynamite and blowing it up. But it’s after the kid sets on his journey to reunite with the mom when the plot thickens. A really dark story full of sinister folks, shootouts, and child slavery unfolds as the kid’s story does, and it’s within that violent conspiracy where El Hijo operates, harmlessly trying to save the person that he loves the most.

Dec 23, 2020El Hijo is just downright fun to play. It doesn't take a tremendous amount of thought to get through levels and the game is forgiving when you do get "caught". The inspiring of in-game children is a great motivational system that will entice you to replay levels to get 100% completion!

LEVEL (Czech Republic)Apr 12, 2021Although a simpler, but very fun hybrid puzzle and stealth game, which caresses the soul with visuals and constantly surprises with new elements. [Issue#309]

Dec 9, 2020El Hijo is a simple yet entertaining game. Using basic mechanics and an intriguing art style, it manages to successfully deliver a charming stealth adventure, despite its few flaws.

He may be small, but he’s mighty, and with your help, he can be reunited with his family and ride off into the sunset. Dec 9, 2020El Hijo is a simply yet entertaining game, thanks to its clever level design and a fine aesthetic. On the other hand, the IA is insufficient and occasionally the input lag can ruin the situation.

CD-ActionJul 23, 2021An interesting mix of a stealth game and a point’n’click adventure, set in the Wild West. As a six-year-old boy, you have to cleverly use the environment to escape from bandits and find out what happened to your mother. Enemy AI could be better and some minor technical issues spoiled the fun a bit, but every puzzle in the game can be solved in many ways, and that’s something I always welcome with open arms. El Hijo is a fairly easy but satisfying game that you can play with your kid, as there’s not a drop of blood here. [02/2021, p.40]

Mar 18, 2021El Hijo is certainly a lovely experience. It has gorgeous visuals, as much storytelling as a player wishes to see, smart puzzles, and some of the more frustrating aspects of stealth games are given features to make it more palatable to a larger audience. Sadly, though, these features dumb down the stealthing side to an extent and take away the dynamic feeling of many others of the genre, leaving players coming for a stealth heavy game wanting more.
-
Feb 19, 2021El Hijo will satisfy a craving for stealth games and it looks stunning, but it’s not very original and its weird controls are an endless source of frustration.
-
PC GamesJan 7, 2021El Hijo is not terrific, no question about it. The gameplay is too repetitive for that, the AI is sometimes forbidden stupidly and the story is simply not exciting enough. Nevertheless, the Western adventure can convince thanks to a beautiful graphic style and a nice sneak mechanic. El Hijo is definitely a successful game, especially for young gamers - and completely free of violence.
-
Dec 21, 2020El Hijo: A Wild West Tale’s focus on a non-combat brand of stealth, as well as its forgiving mechanics, serves as a very pleasant change to most stealth games on the market, and its overall style is cute without being cloying. It’s not perfect, with some roughness round the edges mechanically, but there are much worse ways to spend a few hours.
-
Dec 9, 2020El Hijo: A Wild West Tale is a work that stands out for its quality and artistic design, as well as the well-devised stealth system with multiple rooms and different situations that will put our wits to work despite its repeatability and scarce narrative.
-
Dec 4, 2020El Hijo - A Wild West Tale is the perfect stealth game for those who are looking for an experience that is not too complex but still able to whet the intelligence, thanks to a mix of excellent level design, well-calibrated puzzle sections and many solutions offered in sandbox environments, all immersed in a spaghetti western atmosphere.
-
Feb 10, 2021El Hijo is a tough sell for me. I appreciate the aesthetics and was charmed by the hero, but the campaign was simply too long due to excessive backtracking, unclear level design and some rough edges that often made sneaking and hiding frustrating. A tighter, more streamlined campaign would have made for a more enjoyable experience overall.
-
Dec 24, 2020El Hijo has good ideas and intentions, but at the end of the day it’s just a good-looking puzzle game that feels a bit old-fashioned.

Mar 17, 2021definitely worth picking up if you love puzzle style games. The non-violent stealthing is casual and fun and the art style is pretty well done
