Earthlock: Festival of Magic from Snowcastle Games is an absolute nostalgic joy to play. Feeling at once both reverential for classic 16-bit JRPGs and novel due to its western stylized setting and systems, Earthlock is a grand start to an RPG trilogy, and well worth the meager price of admission.

Earthlock has very fresh and new ideas, but it does not really fit in the classic RPG genre. It is visually attractive, although the game seems a little bit seems to go to waste on multiple occasions.

    Pros:

-Battles force you to adapt your strategy
    -Awesome boss fights
-Feels like what Final Fantasy SHOULD be, an updated RPG with a sort of old school feel
    -Did I mention the sound?

    Cons:
    -Camera is wonky and uncontrollable
-No mouse pointer (though you can use mouse buttons if you take the time to assign them)
-Pairing system is awkward and feels unnecessary
-Characters are mostly hollow and unlikeable (Gnart is my favorite so far)
-Stunted dialogue, especially where there's supposed to be "banter" between characters

Overall, the pros outweigh the cons by quite a bit. Highly recommended, especially if it's on sale on Steam.
