Running around, jumping from one rooftop to another never gets old to me and zombie encounters are always exciting and dangerous, especially during nighttime when the game switches its genre to horror. No joke, the stuff that crawls out there during nighttime will make you s***t your pants. Like others have mentioned, the story isn't particularly exciting, but in my opinion is passable enough and even good at certain points. And yes, I am also having significant frame drops. Playing on medium settings I get 15-20 FPS in the worst parts of the city, which is bad but I can accept it for now. I am starting to notice certain patterns though, like the the same buildings that you scavenge for goods and certain elements of interior are encountered a bit too frequently and I start think 'wait, haven't I been here already?', but in fact it's a different place with the same looks. The city does feel very big though and I can't really blame the developers for having filler content here and there. Although I can already sense how it will eventually become boring to me and I will move on to something else, the game is still very fun and enjoyable to me and I expect I will finish the storyline before that happens. Inventory system works great and the fact that you can upgrade and modify weapons on the go is a big plus compared to Dead Island's system where you needed a workstation.

Some people are complained that the weapons break too fast and, well, yes they do, but that should just give you more motivation to find better weapons, modify and upgrade them. You can also use talent points to make weapons last longer or make repaired easier.

The talent system works really well. Everything you do helps you to improve some of your skills. With a system like that it's okay to go off course and help some fellow survivors or kill some bad guys. Because it's all rewarding in some way or another, either through loot, money or new talents.

I'm also really happy that they didn't implement a fast-travel system like we've seen in Fallout, Skyrim and Dead Island. Sometimes you have to run a lot back and worth but again, it's fine as it can be rewarding in new talents or new discoveries.

They are plenty of side quests that also introduces you to interesting characters. Even though you run about a lot the game does not seem repetitive as all the missions vary a lot in my opinion.

The ragdoll effects on the zombies are simply amazing and only adds a certain realism to the game. Hands down the best first-person zombie game to date.

Techland has really payed attention to detail. I was in a random room in a random building and randomly looked up at a wall clock. You know, the ones who are almost always static in games, but this one actually moved. I liked that.

I was going to give this game a 9, but it gets a 10 because of the character Jade Aldemir. She's a cool character and not bad on the eyes either. She reminds me of of Alyx Vance from Half Life 2. Anyway I'll get back to the game now. Good Night, Good Luck.

As many have already stated, Dying Light seems to bring together a bunch of good features from other titles without actually trying anything new. It's like a vegetable stew of tried and tested features with Dead Island as a base. It's like a vegetable stew of tried and tested features with Dead Island as a base. The game feels like what Dead Island should have been in the first place, in fact I spent a lot of time saying "oh, I've done this before in Dead Island."

"Oh hey, it's the office building with an excessive amount of breakable glass, just like Dead Island. Oh, it's that annoying part of the game where I have to traverse the sewers again, just like Dead Island." Techland, no more long corridor sewers please.

I'm on the fence with Techland, there's so much they do undeniably right. They seem to be experts at setting atmosphere, the city overlooks in Dying Light are beautiful. The map was done by a group of studied individuals who must have planned it meticulously. Walking into a room and reading the story of the last moments from the corpse on the floor, just from the visual cues in the room is something only a handful of games do right. Dying Light is one of those games. One final standout feature, zombie AI evolves throughout the game. The zombies get consistently more aggressive and it's a fantastic touch, most RPGs would have scaled the health and been done with it. Techland goes above and beyond.

At the same time, there are a lot of issues with the game, and several reoccurring mistakes Techland seems to make. Optimization is one of them, if you think back to the launch of Dead Island, the game was notoriously poorly optimized for the PC to the point where hundreds of Steam users demanded and received refunds. Dying Light isn't quite this bad, but it does have a barrage of optimization issues that will keep the average PC user from enjoying the game.

From here there are just several design issues that I personally do not agree with. The permanent film-grain effect is horrible. The way the dead island/dying light engine makes the textures of everything in the environment look like they have a thick layer of wax over them bothers me. There seems to be far too many dark places unoccupied by virals during the day. The Parkour system works most of the time, but when it doesn't it will be during the worst times possible. The way the game handles death seems rushed at best, you're slapped with an XP penalty and respawned at the nearest safehouse. You can watch virals spawn from the air endlessly if you make enough noise, shouldn't they stop coming at some point? The way they handle zombie hordes is tricky, there are much more zombies on screen than can be active at one time. It seems like roughly 8-10 zombies can be actively pursuing you at any give time, the other zombies on the screen are idle. There are lots of assets reused from Dead Island. It's important to note that the things listed in this paragraph do not necessarily change the score of the review. I understand they're quite specific, just issues I find bothersome.

With all of that said, Techland is a company I am excited to see grow. I would be excited to see them on a fresh game engine. They just need to step out of their comfort zone.

The story is quite good, but I feel it could of been alot more intense if the story wasn't all about the GRE and survival. Therefore you never break to get to know the characters, leaving you feeling detached.

During the day the game has a walking dead overtone and fits that shoe nicely. You will be taking over "bases" infested by zombies and other badies (think farcry 4) in effort to secure safe zones , which may have more side missions BUT mostly serves as a safe place should you be out during a mission and caught with your pants down as the sun starts to sets and need a place of safety. The map is HUGE and getting around would be a tedious process if not for the climbing and running mechanics. The guy can climb just about anything he can reach either by hand or grappling hook and traverse anything he climb on too.

When the sun does set and nightfall comes into play everything changes. Zombies are faster more alert, the special hunters are out looming in the darkness and they will relentlessly chase you until you make it to a safe zone , you evade them, you kill them or they kill you. The crafting mechanic lets you piece together any crude weapon with other crude items and forge something that may belong in splatterhouse but never the less it gets the job done with as much gore to soak even the hardcorest of gamers. In my opinion the game needs more guns, it does have them but to say they sparse is both a understatement and a lie at the same time. Every safe zone controlled by a faction has guards , each guard is carrying as assault rifle, yet you as the player have hard time acquiring just one and if you do it likely has around 5-10 rounds in it with little hope of finding ammo. In that sense it doesn't make sense, if that makes any sense. lol

Its like your surrounded by butter knives yet you cant have one unless your lucky.

Melee Combat works though and is clearly the main focus, with the different abilities to unlock through 3 separate skill trees as your progress through the story , you will unlock things like drop kicks and different takedown abilities etc that opens up new possibilities to take down hordes of zombies. Speaking of combat..The Collisions...Collisions work so well in this game it will just about spoil you into thinking why isnt every game made with stuff like this?!

All in all this game is unique with superb graphics (not genre defining or worthy to the PC's immense power now a days but its good enough) and solid mechanics, a decent plot that every now and then seems just a tad stale by repetitive missions types but more than anything else its FUN! Highly Recommended To Any FPS, Open World and especially Zombie Fan

    Id give it a 8.5 / 10

what was special to me was the night and day phases. in the beginning you nearly sh*t yourself being on tour at night and trying to avoid it at all costs. later in the game you get more and more used to it and also dare more and more from time to time. you are not forced to play at night and go through these heart-killing passages, you can do almost everything at bright daylight!

it didn't take me very long to find my self right in the middle of the action knowing what to do, when to do.
many people already mentioned the hardware specifications and yes - there is some optimizing to do. however, on my i5/r290 it worked just fine with the current patch and some reduced farsight.

the story itself is being held on a surprisingly high level throughout the whole game, it kept me motivated and was interesting to follow. I got really fond of the main character, whose way of taking things was funny without losing the touch to the story or behaving incorrect/inconsistent.

one or two points would need a little bit of refining, like the grabbling-hook which in a lot of cases didn't let me hold on to a wall/cliff but just fall into my death or as already mentioned the optimizing of the compatibility which is in work right now.

the graphic however is a mix. there are passages like character textures which are beatifully rendered, where the wall right next to that person looks extremely blurry. however, it's something that you recognize in the beginning of the game but further on you are happy with the atmospheric just right romantic sunsets, the leafs blowing softly in the wind and the sound of ocean waves and maybe a couple of moans to complete the picture.

Techland has done A LOT RIGHT with this game, it did surprise me completely and then blew me off my feet. to everyone out there - this game rawks. the mix feels just right and not a copycat of other games, the protagonist is fresh and the story exciting. guys, what do you want more?

Night time is longer, and man is it tough. This is the game I've been waiting for since Half-Life. Waiting for the DLC. After the bar that this game raised, other developers really need to step up.

I haven't even gotten past the first tower climb and wanting to hang it up and go back to playing Just Cause 2. I have formed some thoughts so far and I apologize if I echo others.

    - Graphics. I turned up the graphics with my GTX 970 and remain unimpressed. It's too easy to visually miss the spitters. Gee, I wonder where the spitter idea came from? At least in L4D2, you can see and hear them.

    - Story. Didn't I play this already in a game called Dead Island? No because you play as an SF operator. Wait, that was Just Cause.

    - Controls. Meh. Lots of players seem to like the Parkour, but I get hung up in it. I fall, lose health and then must loot for supplies to create a MedKit. I am I having fun yet?

-Looting and Crafing. It would have been an OK concept like Far Cry 3 or even Dead Island but this game takes it overboard. Really, it adds nothing to the game play since you must refocus from your mission to looking for supplies that suddenly dry up. All just to remain in the game and not die.

Right now I'm between games so I'll keep playing and maybe my opinion will change. Maybe I'll get used to the controls and getting hit by spitters that I can't see or hear coming.

    Happy gaming!

    Real Score: 8.5/10

I'll give it a 9 because they announced some really cool content coming in the future.

Gameplay: Killing zombies with different melee weapons never gets old, really, it's so much fun to just run around the map killing zombies, opening chests for better weapons, doing these little random events like save some guy from zombies or from Rais's (bad guy) men. The way the game scales is simply brilliant, you start weak, you have to avoid zones full of zombies most of the time because your weapons are weak, after some missions you get EXP, you start leveling and getting new skills, finding better weapons until you get stronger, and you'll just 1 shot zombies or multiple zombies at the same time, your parkour skills will get better aswell so jumping from house to house will get easier and more fun. On top of all that, during the day the game is a survival game, find loot, get weapons, do some quests, lvl skills, during the night is more of a horror/stealth game, because at night, really strong, fast and vicious zombies roam around the map and they will chase you and pretty much shred you to pieces if they catch you. The multiplayer (COOP) (Recommended) is really fun, people can just join your game and help you around with some quests of main story, you can get invaded by a special zombie, controlled by another human. The coop is up to 4 players. 9/10

Story: Now serious, it feels a lot like far cry 3/4, and it's full of cliches: the bag guy is crazy, you appear out of nowhere and you volunteer for everything, you can do everything people there couldn't do for ages, long story short you are the typicall hero. So for the story I would give 6.5/10

Graphics/Environment: The graphics are amazing, the environment is perfect, it does feel like you are in a post apocalyptic city, it's really immersive. The 2nd and last place you go to is actually really beautiful. 8/10

Content: Main story, around 40 side quests, lots of challenges, little events, some chests/cars to lock pick to find better weapons and outfits. I finished the main story, all side quests did some challenges, events and wandered around just killing zombies and lock picking chests/cars to find better weapons, and I have 35 hours of gameplay, but I'll probably play more later since they already added (free) new content like 50 new weapons, new weapon rarity, some outfits and difficulty, and they teased us with CARS! to be added in the future. 8/10

Game play wise, the game is very fun; melee combat is brutal and satisfying (as it should be) and firearms are used at an appropriate rate through the campaign. The main thing that I dislike about Dying Light is the lack of character development. For a game that primarily focuses on a single player experience, only a few of the characters that are introduced in the story are really developed, and this means that you don't really feel connected to them as you would to characters in say, Last of Us.

Overall, a very good game to pick up and play, although I would recommend purchasing it at a discounted price, as it's highly likely that you will finish the main story and a few side quests and then never touch the game again.

One of the more frustrating games I will ever play. In nearly every facet of the game the devs came very close to making something amazing but fell just short. The combination of these shortcomings is a poorly executed mess that leaves the player saying "it was so close, yet so far away.. from a good game".

I loved first mirrors edge game and I thought dying light would be similar... But it is not. And why the hell in game about free running there is so much tunnels and underground missions that are so freaking boring!... Gameplay itself boring and very repetitive same as missions and locations! Be prepared to do exact same missions as blowing up the building or finding missing access cards but in different areas. First 3 hours were fun, but after first sight I started to see bigger picture. If you thing you like parkour and zombies then head without any doubts straight to dying light 2 it's more modern and better designed overall. This game does not aged well at all. So much better than Dead Island...The game shines on every single aspect, game play is fluid, graphics are amazing and the story is pretty damn good thus far. I can def recommend the game!!
The only slightly negative thing is the dynamic day night cycle...Its actually linked to quests and doesn't cycle like an actual day night cycle would. Other than that its a fun and solid gaming experience.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What I liked:
    - You are Spiderman's protege, complete with a web shooter, spider sense, over the top parkour and climbing abilities
    - Noise attracts the dead!

    What I disliked:
    - Water, guts, the sun, and other effects gets into your eyes. At least learn to wipe the first 2 off.
    - Glasses don't break, like car windows
    - The dust? particles flying in the air
    - The seizures, oh god not now...
    - Not enough variety with the zombie models, very noticeable since it's a first person game
    - Lots of swimming, switches to flip and generally uninteresting fetch quests
    - Clunky melee combat
    - Guns for the most part are useless, silenced versions would have been fun
    - Cheap deaths from exploding zombies
    - What a finale to make you climb the top of the world for a QTE boss fight.

Parkour, First person melee combat, a bit of FPS, a bit of stealth, Crafting and random loot system, and all star zombie casts are here (slow, fast, exploding, spitting, etc.). This is a fun game during the early hours but gets repetitive and cumbersome in the long run. I'll just play pepsi man if I want to run for my life, the Mosou series if i want to hack and slash repetitively, and Dead Rising for a satisfying zombie apocalypse experience.

The enemy design and difficulty level is really well crafted, which is rare, especially in these types of open world games. Enemies are diverse and challenging and while there is no difficulty setting, players can moderate their own difficulty level through their play style which measures anywhere from moderate to quite difficult.

The quest design is a real stand out too, as you rarely undertake any pointless or tedious quests and unexpected things consistently take place throughout, keeping things interesting and always worth doing.

However the games performance on PC leaves quite a lot to be desired. I have played this on an R9 290 and a GTX 970, AMD GPU performance borders on unplayable while nVidia GPU performance is merely average despite the prevalence of nVidia Gameworks and proprietary features. AMD CPU performance takes a real hit too as the game seems to be not so well optimized leaving the single core performance of Intel CPUs at a significant advantage. That being said, the game presents with very few if any technical bugs, so hopefully any developer efforts will be focused solely on optimization.

Quite a shame really as there are so many well crafted systems in the game, it's hard to fault it elsewhere and a real stand out title to get things kicked off in 2015.

{Credits to Alecmann} Story- This is the underwhelming portion. The story is far more serious than that of dead island. No dark humor, no super cheesy characters (well not as cheesy). You find yourself helping the few survivors in the city with fetch quests and the typical point A to point B. There are a couple surprises- and a passable story to match. None of it is bad, but none of it is great. It is clear the time was put into the gameplay. On the plus side the game is sizable. If you are a completion you could get 70 hours out of this game, though the average gamer can expect 30 to 40. [7.5/10]

No. Nice graphics, freerunning, climbing BUT everything else is mediocre or worse:

    1) The game is too arcade-ish:
You'll get too powerful later in the game.
    2) There just isn't any survival at all:
There's literally no need to search any area for supplies other than for crafting. Injuries, medicine, food, water mechanics aren't present in the game. All vendors shower you with weapons and ammo.
    3) Bad economy:
Item quality means nothing: Neither how often needed nor found. You'll pile up cash as vendors don't sell any crafting reagents but shower you with weapons & ammo. Totally broken economy.
    4) Combat:
They tried to make it interesting but only for melee, where the 2h weapons suck.
Ranged combat is blatant shoot another with no cover system and without any great utility items to craft (smoke bomb / zombie attracting things / flashbang etc.)
Sneaking doesn't work too well as there's no stealth gameplay within the game despite it needed it (especially at night) nor threat shake off mechanics of some form so one mistake means alert status enemies.
Camouflage is an overpowered anti zombie talent: Cover in yourself in zombie blood and they won't attack you anymore, even when you start killing them. Shouldn't be in the game to keep the zombie threat a thing.
Despite being arcade-like I miss fun weapons like a chainsaw, grenade launcher, RPG, sniper rifle, heavy assault rifle etc.
Ranged weapons don't get any upgrades (supressor, scope, special ammo, melee swing option or anything fun / survival related for a game).
Weapon types don't matter: No bonus damage vs certain enemies.
2h weapons deal almost the same damage as 1h weapons. Only upside is their area effect with ground slam (weak, short duration) and windmill swing (can be interrupted mid-animation by enemy attacks; unreliable).
    5) Great features used wrong:
Freerunning: Just the starting zone is designed to favor this. Later you get a grappling hook and no more exhaustion, trivializing and sabotaging freerunning and -climbing along with the threat enemies then pose.
Sneaking / stealth: Not in the game. It's just unnoticed vs noticed. Neither shadow nor noise levels, no camouflage gear, no objects to hide in, just nothing except for zombie blood/potion so most zombies ignore you.
Day & night: Night didn't get it's own mechanic and thus is meaningless, except for some quests. It grants bonus experience but that's it: there's neither camouflage, nor noise, nor sneaking, nor special vendors, nor extra stuff to find just and only during night time.
Air drops: A fun mechanic, encouraging everything the game offers. Removed during campaign progress and then never makes it back into the game.
Talent tree: It's just unlock all instead of make choices. No interesting multiplayer builds and different strengths / weaknesses. You get everything.
Crafting: It's all just weapons, upgrades and grenades with little utility or interesting items, potions and firecrackers being among the most useful of them. Avoid fire / lightning / impact crafts because they either backfire or draw more agile zombies (=bad design, as upgrades you pay for make things worse). Sadly no crafting that allows to access new areas (gas mask, hazard suit etc.). Annoying single click crafting instead of set x amounts to craft. You can't construct or fortify anything on your own. There aren't timers or visual effects for the duration of some potion effects.
Lockpicking: Unbalanced. With the exception of easy ambulance locks only hard locks are worth the effort. Very hard locks only drop stuff vendors shower you with anyway. Everything below hard just drops garbage. The much needed crafting items you're constantly running low on you'll find in non-locked objects. Bad design.
    6) Story:
It's pretty lame, made up and you don't have any say in how anything plays out ever. It's annoying whenever it tries to be like an action movie, making you run through a parkour while being chased / shot at because you're in unfamiliar terrain and immediately have to figure out where the designers want you to go (absence of many paths in a freerunning game). Final boss fight mechanics are arbitary and horrendous as all your gear, skills and unlocks don't matter there.

Programmers, just wtf are you doing with your own game ! The whole game feels like someone had a good concept idea of freerunning and graphics, took the time to design some wonderful maps and then came the other guys and tried to ruin every other aspect of the game as hard as they could.
I still want to pat the level designers on the back for having done a good job most of the time.
Just story, mechanics, crafting and economy should get a huge overhaul.
DO NOT buy the addon. Except for the crossbow everything there is worse.
Devs: PROMOTE freerunning by level design, don't force it, add the addon's car and subway station fast travel for people who prefer that. Better job next game, pls.

That is unacceptable So If you are planning to get this game Keep in mind that you may Encounter issues. Now with that out of the way let me tell you how much Fun I had with this game. The Main campaign Is Only about 5 hours long If you rush Through But With side quest's it can easily take you 12+ Hours!

Now Gameplay Wise It's essentially Dead Island Mixed With mirrors Edge. That can be Either Good or bad But luckily in the game's case They Did it right. The Combat is a little wonky at first but you get used to it and it gets much better when you upgrade your Combat to at least adept. The parkour Honestly Sucks at first as well but Much alike the Combat all you need to do is upgrade it and it will get so much better.

The Story is alright I mean It's not the greatest But at least it has one (Looking at you dead island) The characters are Forgettable and by the Time you Feel nothing for them. What is nice However is when you are just taking a stroll you can sometimes Grab an airdrop or Stumble upon Someone who need's help. and you can Find people who tell you about what they were doing before the Virus, It's pretty interesting.

Now one of the major mechanics they Advertised was this Night Time mode. It is Terrifying at first Yes But eventually It Loses it's touch. But your adrenaline always Get's pumping when you're Running From Virals. Then you have this mode called be the zombie which is pretty cool actually but sometimes if you have Multiplayer on They can invade you and it gets Kinda one sided Especially If you are going solo.

Overall I would recommend the game but it would be a cautious Purchase with the optimization issues so If I were you i would Either wait for patches, Or buy it on a console.

The combat mechanics are extended (such as dashing) however the hit detection and pointless weapons/animations (knife) are still left in. Bizarrely, zombie grab animations can break your combat 'flow' - unless you invest in several perks to make the game NOT do that?! Why just not leave it the **** out? These former eastbloc devs need to learn from musicians - what you leave out is more important than what you leave in.

Also, I have to play this mother****er until level 14 (many gd hrs) to get a gd katana?!, just like the last game. The RPG/Perk/item/crafting aspect is really broken, it borrows from like action/rpg games perk systems - but really it just shouldn't have used one, the items perks should have been passive, using meters. The crafting/weapons degradation system is similarly bizarre (left over from the first game), the devs seek to restrict, level and balance everything at once instead of making the game fun to grind. If they just leveled certain zone enemies and not the weapons, plus created a large variety of melee weapons it would have been fun. The Katana or any weapon should be available right at the beginning, its the weapon type that should receive perks - this would make the game much more fun. Then once you reach much higher levels, add in cool side weapons with one or two perk slots (eg. Tonfa, Nunchaku) please, I just wanna beat on stuff with nunchucks yo. Maybe next sequel?

But I would rather look past that. The main two reasons why I rate this game at four is that firstly, it's a console game for PCs, and secondly, I didn't have that much fun playing it. Sure, it looks gorgeous, but that's about it.

And the more I think of it, the more I consider that my two main concerns about the game are just one: I tend to hate all console games for PC on sight, sure; but there's nothing such as a "console game for PC label" that would draw me into hating them before recognizing what they are.

So why on earth is it a console game for PC? Well, here are my reasons:

    - The interface is optimized for consoles. Like in the vast majority of recent titles, you don't select your weapons/items with multiple keys as in PC games, but with multiple hits (or by pressing that button and selecting the items in a "selection wheel") to one key, as in console games.
    - The gameplay is for consoles too: with the exception of the mouse look, everything plays better with a controller.
    - The linearity of the game is depressing; I have not been offered a single choice so far. This game is an interactive movie for your living room, not a dynamic and fun game for your PC.

Bottom line: get this game for your playstation/xbox/whatever, but if you're searching for a good PC game to (re)play, head for things like good ol' L4D or S.T.A.L.K.E.R, or Metro 2033; and sequels.

    Story:
The story is poor and by far the worst thing in the game, filled with cliches and plot points you can see from a mile away. But the characters are by far the worst, seriously. They're so bland and under-developed that you couldn't give 2 sh*ts whether or not they die. Hell, when someone died I spent more time trying to figure out who they were rather than actually paying attention to them dying. I mean, Brecken disappears halfway through the game without any mention of his name again. They really build up the main villain as well, trying to make a discount Vaas from Farcry 3, but it just wasn't working for me. He had no real substance or meaning behind what he was doing, other than just doing it for the sh*ts and giggles. He stands monologuing, telling you all of his evil schemes and actually letting you in on his whereabouts in the end of the game, just before he is about to make his escape and win! Why?! So stupid it's unreal. It takes a darker and more serious tone to Dead Island but it doesn't seem to pay off in my opinion.

    Graphics, Sound and Performance:
I'm not really an expert on sound design or anything but from my eyes, the sound was done fairly well, it definitely deterred me from going out at night, hearing the agonising screams of the virals. The intense music during pursuits was nice, it did a good job of immersing me in the game. Graphics are nice, not The Last Of Us standard, but nevertheless they are good. However there are performance issues on the PC version, mainly stemming from the view distance. Turning it up or down doesn't really change much apart from the view distance in the interior maps or the pop-in for zombies. FPS takes a nose-dive when you finish the tutorial and go outside.

    Gameplay:
First things first, the parkour is mostly well-done. However, you can encounter some parkour related bugs, most comical and some just annoying. It can vary from flying through a wall to getting stuck in-between 2 objects, forcing you to commit suicide. Survivor point don't do much for the game as far as I can tell, although I didn't look too intensely into what they did. The combat feels smoother than Dead Island for certain, no complaints there. The new crafting system and player stash are really nice features as well, allowing easy storage for weapons, but from what I can tell, it's used mostly for duplicating items to become a billionaire. Side quests are pretty much the same as Dead Island; "Fetch this for me", "Turn this on for me". Very repetitive point A to point B missions. I do enjoy the free running challenges though, most of them provide a nice challenge and are quite fun to do. However, the main problem from a gameplay perspective is that the game gives you a false sense of freedom. It gives you an amazing open world to explore and run the parkour, but when a story mission rolls around, especially after the halfway point in the game, you're thrown into a cramped and linear interior map. Once you get the grappling hook, the open world actually becomes a bore to traverse, just spamming middle mouse button and flying across the map in no time. The day-night cycle change is one of the games more interesting and better points. The virals become a real challenge until a very late point in the game, making it pretty much your only option to run away. Despite this it just becomes an absolute drag to finish the story, with a lazy QTE final boss battle at the end. It's such a cop-out move to have the villain you tried to big up and make him seem impossible to kill, defeated by pressing 5 or 6 buttons.

Overall this game isn't terrible, it's definitely an improvement on Dead Island, however personally I just don't think it lives up to the hype. I'd say wait until the price drops or you see it on sale to pick it up.

I wouldn't recommend this game for what it's being advertised as. It's not much of a Survival game at all. Not much of an open world experience. Not much of a story. It is however a good combination of tried and true game mechanics in a zombie-afflicted fictional middle eastern city.

It is however a good combination of tried and true.. oh yeah, I already said that. So anyways, if you liked playing every single Assassin's Creed, you'll probably like this game too. Especially if Zombies are also awesome in your book.

If not, don't expect this game to give you any thrills outside of what I already mentioned. Not to say that I can't have fun with it, I just can't recommend it.

It has a host other problems, however, like the narrative being awfully stupid with "plot twists" visible from a mile away, the cast being mostly annoying and easily forgettable and the protagonist being an unbelievable wimp who can't sprint for more than 20 seconds or swing a weapon more than three times in a row (until you learn to run for a whole THIRTY seconds in a row and master the ancient chinese art of stomping down on fallen enemies heads), and the hugely touted "parkour" being a series of "run forward, aim for a ledge, press jump and watch your hero s-l-o-w-l-y climb it" episodes. It literally has NO tempo.

Techland seems to have mastered the "first person swing-at-zombies-with-flimsy-weapons" genre perfectly. Now they need to learn to make their games actually interesting.

This game run horribly on most systems, with constant stuttering and choking on the most random of things, lowering setting which shouldn't need to be lowered will make it run "smoother", other than this people had touting this game as fun, after 5 Hours straight I'm still searching for it,

Problems with this game range from boring generic mash Mouse1 to kill, with enemies dodging and blocking purely at random with no sense of why they do so, having fought virals some will just spam back dodge when your attacking others will let you wail on them till their a pulp, humans are worse because they block by holding their weapon 6 inches from their face and if you attack you just aimless strike their weapon like a cat playing with a toy even if you aren't aiming at this rather absurd attempt to parry your strikes.

Climbing & Vaulting which they call Parkour seems interesting but gets old very fast with the exact same animation playing over and over with random nonsensical limitations on what you can climb jump and reach, don't expect something smooth and free flowing its far from that imagine having the ledges from Far cry 4 everywhere with the same sort of animation following every time you clamber over anything.

The story is more laughable with plot points ranging from, meet the mentally challenged psycho wannabe living with his mother who is a pillow and a bucket and then onwards and upwards to one of the Survivors leaders trying to take a "Nest" out by using explosives but rather than reaching there he gets trapped inside a train where knowing he has no way out on his own decides to arm the bomb anyway. . . Why well screw you that's why I don't have to explain myself to you. . .

It has the same old tired Dead Island talent tree split into 3 specs sort of like Dead Island originally had but each effect your 3 main stats, Survivor skill, Agility skill and Power skill, there is nothing new or unique about the system it just feels like a addon put there just to try and add some re-playability.

Loot and crafting again just direct copy of Dead Island again with same pointless things, like when crafting a mod with your own material you still have to pay cash, even though its you doing it with your own items, my current theory is that the character is eating the cash in hopes that it will stave off the zombie infection/ Rabies virus pumping through his veins.

Night time, you remember the video trailer of the Hunters and Night time, the fear of the character as he rushes through the streets hoping he is dodging them and making it to safety the rush and thrill of been truly outmatched and running for dear life, well its not in the game rather at night time the hunters come out to play but are thwarted with the fact you have not only a Mini-map showing you where to go but, it tells you where those hunters are and what way they are facing with a Metal Gear solid style cone of vision, you simply walk the entire way back just avoiding them by walking just past their sight range hell you can even stop and shine your flashlight at the light sensitive zombies and they don't flinch as long as they haven't spotted you.

A lot of little QTE's litter the game and we have the same old Lock picking system of Elder Scrolls series it seems like a random assortment of broke and hated ideas from other more popular games shoved into another generic cash grab zombie game and hope that people don't notice it.

Save yourself the money sadly it was a lot of hype and what we got was a buggy, poorly optimized game with, shoddy plot and characters, with the most basic and tedious of gameplay, with very little redeeming features when the charm runs out.

Now to the performance my 4GB R9 290x 1150mhz runs BF4 in ultra with more than 100 fps. Normally unrealistic behaviour in games is not a bad thing, but survival games should really get more imaginative than that. Parkour is fraught with problems - collision detection, volume measuring (player squeezing through impossibly small spaces), positioning of body parts as they participate in movement, etc. This is unfortunately nothing special these days and is the continuation of trying to push computers to do stuff beyond their current capabilities. The "best" example being Ubisoft's ACU mechanics when home computing today is just not ready to do real-time collision detection, positioning and similar on a level required by such complicated movements and fast gameplay. I've also seen it play on a configuration similar to mine, same gpu, lesser ram. It worked. This game wouldn't even start for me.

I did play it however and it's the same as Dead Island. The same clunky movements of the zombies, the same detached attack animations, mostly stupid game AI (they keep stabbing themselves on spikes) added parkour, night/day shift, some new weapons and a bigger map than DI had. Now, graphically it's satisfactory but pales in comparison to newer titles and i can't see for the life of me why it would require such a high configuration to run such mediocre graphics. With that said, i can't help but give this game a low score. A badly optimized Dead Island clone, whatever the additions is still a badly optimized clone. I love Dead Island, even Riptide, but I'm having trouble digesting this. If they patch it, i'd probably rate it higher. As is, it's a shameful release for a supposed AAA title.

Yes the game looks great but the developers seem to think that the player runs around looking through the lens of a camera. How does that work? There is also this annoying visual rocking motion of the camera. Don’t developers realize that the brain filters that stuff out?
Many of the missions include silly jumping and climbing puzzles, great for kiddies with good reflexes, not so much for a casual player like myself. I’ve gotten to the last mission but it’s too difficult to complete. There are too many zombies, and no matter how or where I run, smothered in zombie guts or not, wielding the best weapons I can find, I get killed. I didn’t particularly enjoy the over abundance of blood and guts without a way to tone it down a touch, or a lot.
Maybe someone will develop a cheat that will allow me to finish the story and allow me to try the DLCs.

For example I get 20-30 fps outside with the lowest settings possible. This is unplayable for me considered that most part the game is rather fast-paced and the terribly low fps starts to irritate my eyes. Luckily they added FoV option because the normal FoV was absolute ****
Sad part is that my PC is by no means bad. I can run most of the modern high end games with 40-60 fps on max settings.

Cons: Terrible Controls, Horrible Game play, Slow Downs, Bad level Design, Impair your vision throughout the game. Pacing.

When I saw the trailer to this game I was excited... But it did not live up to my expectations. This game seriously stinks... It was not fun at all.

Much like Left4Dead, the game is mechanically solid, but should never call itself both multiplayer and single player....it feels like the developers just say single-player to get people like me to buy (I regret the purchase, not because the game is bad, but because it is not designed with solo players in mind at all).

It's a game that doesn't take your hand, it's pretty hard and died numerous times.

I enjoyed my time with the game, I did all the side missions in Harran which gave me far to much money way to early in the game, a bit imbalanced there.

Found that two hand weapons or weapons with that are slow to swing are underpowered compared to the faster ones, you can get an ability to 360 with a two hand weapon which helps but the cost of stamina per swing doesn't justify using one compared to a quick sword by example.

    (*Minor Spoilers in next paragraph)
Found that side missions should of had specified which were more essential like the witch woman (which I didn't get the reward till finishing the game) and missed on an essential potion trough out the game which would of made it much easier, as well as the dynamite one which gives you the ability to trough grenades (wich I also got at the end of the story).
Did over 40 other side missions and the rewards weren't nearly as good, mostly just gives you a worthless blueprint and some cash.
Also my major criticism at the game is getting the grap hock so late in the game, and I did all the side missions! Can't imagine for someone who didn't do any?! They might not of even unlocked it by the time they finished the game, major flaw.

Side mission were quite boring, just fetch this for me quests.

Looting is not rewarding enough, especially late game.

Plot was great not the best way executed but the concept was great.

Combat wasn't the best, but really enjoyed the animations of slicing zombies up, greatly animated.

In general, I enjoyed my time with the game, parkour is very good, and enjoyed the leveling system although I think some abilities could of been there from the start of the game.

    Would I recommend this game?

Yes, definitely, even though I listed so many negatives is because I wanted it to be a GOTY game, unfortunately it won't be but hey, best game I played this year so far..?!!!

Spent roughly 30 to 35 hours with non stop looting and 90% of side missions.

Played it solo but think it would be better with a friend in coop.

An okay attempt at yet another zombie shooter game.
Combat is not fun: everything changes once you get access to guns, it just becomes a headshot fest.
Sticking to melee, zombies are rightfully scary and overwhelming - human combat is just annoying.
Atmosphere is okay, free running is okay, story is bland.

While they got the free running and graphics sorted the lacked in almost every other area, the combat is similar to that of dead island, however i felt it was less controlled with no choice of directional swings. the crafting was quite average, i found many blueprints yet i only had a few basic ones that could do any weapon and then like 5-10 very very specific blueprints, dead island weapon modding is boundless. Every character looked like they were about to do a photoshoot, Its a zombie apocolapse, why does everyone have styled hair, outfits with pointless accessories and just overall no purpose. Dying Light
    Not just another zombie game
dying light is an open world rpg style game from the developer of the original dead island and it shows
dead island is very cartoony compared to the more mature toned Dying Light
This is a much grittier game that takes itself much more seriously
you’re an undercover agent named Kyle Crane sent to infiltrate a quarantine zone
as soon as you get there you see that the place is crawling with zombies and other survivors
    you’re instantly bit and infected
you’re rescued by a woman named jade and she takes you back to the tower because she trusts you can help the remaining survivors,
And to get into their good graces this is exactly what you do..
    You’re an errand boy...
you do all of the tough tasks that others are afraid or too weak to do...
As soon as you’re healed up you’re taught how to do parkour and this unlike in Dead Island gives you the opportunity to travel through the roof tops assassins’ creed style….
Unfortunately though, the parquor system isn’t the greatest….
There is no flow to it, and this lack of flow really stands out towards the end that I won’t show to prevent spoiler, but unlike in assassins creed, if you don’t stop before you make a leap, your character is going to do a half jump and fall to his death,
This no flow needs fixed for a sequel, and please let us climb down…
jumping down while I grab ledges is a little too risky for my taste…
awkward parquor asside, I was in love with the game for the first few hours, I loved exploring the city and scavenging for weapons and items to craft better weapons but dying light is missing the magic dead island had for me
While dying light is the 2nd most believable zombie games I’ve played since the last of us,
nothing about this world feels real or previously lived in… the world in dying light feels insanely generic
There’s no moments, unless I overlooked them where you see a zombie stuck in the loop of a past life
sure some will be locked in the bathroom in houses but they just feel like a gamey jump scare not like they belong there..not like they once lived in the house youre going through
There is no human left in these zombies, ultimately turning them into a nuisance rather than a victim of their circumstances like dead island or even tell tales the walking dead does near perfectly
It would’ve been so much better for the tone they set out to hit if there was a dilemma or struggle to kill
Maybe if it were more about panicking humans than just a bunch of zombies…
Because this really is just completing tasks while zombies bother you
    that’s it
    And it’s a shame…
Theres so much potential here and it becomes repetitive too fast
I was so impressed with how difficult the zombies seemed in this game.. id try my hardest to avoid conflict with them, even with insanely powerful weapons…
There are random side quests and side activities that pop up on the screen where you can help survivors or take supplies from the rival gang..
You can even use the zombies to attack rival enemies for you by throwing fire crackers to attract them, or just getting them to chase you..
Helping npcs, climbing buildings, and killing enemies all level up a different skills,
You have a survivor, agility, and and power skill tree,
Leveling up can get you awesome perks like added health, learning how to use traps in the city, taking less damage from falls.. and at night all of your xp earned is double..
    Except for one little problem
At night zombies are on steroids especially the volatiles
The zombies at night are fast, powerful, they can climb and chase after you,
It’s a thrill to try and make it to a safe spot before you’re killed and sleep til morning
Or you can stay out at night and test your luck…
About 50 percent of the way through the story though dying light kind of turns into more of a first person shooter and this is really where the game starts to fall apart..
I was so happy thinking, they got it right this time.. one giant city for me to explore.. they didn’t make the dead island mistake of making me go to different places
    Wrong
In the back of my mind while playing I was thinking..
If they dare send me to the sewers like every zombie game in existence does…
    and guess what
    they did….
Just like in Dead Island they send you through the sewers and you end up in what I’m convinced is the exact same place you end up in in Dead Island... I definitely got smacked with some dejavu
But you end up in a more crowded spot in the city, that’s just no fun….at all…
I didn’t have even the slightest urge to explore this section…
and worst of all, you cant fast travel through these 2 spots I understand the lack of fast travel in the actual city The fun of the game is making it back before the light dies. .but at least let me hop back and forth between the 2 sections of the city… “I hate sewers It’s so disappointing how predictable dying light ended up being... at least progression wise… The actual story was throwing me all over the

Like expected, it is similar to Dead Island in a lot of ways. So, where does it differ? Well, the graphics and general tone of the game are a lot grittier and darker than Dead Island. Think of this as the Empire Strikes Back to Dead Island's Star Wars.

The looting and melee part of the game is very similar. You pick up, trade, craft weapons and use blueprints to upgrade them and so on.

The looting and melee part of the game is very similar. You pick up, trade, craft weapons and use blueprints to upgrade them and so on. They increase in damage as you level up and unlock rarer varieties.

The free-running is unique here - I don't think I have ever seen it done in a first person game before. It is both a blessing and a curse. It's a blessing because when it works, it works really well and gives a new depth to the game that would not have existed without it. It's a curse because it can be extremely fiddly and disorientating. Sometimes things just don't seem to work as well as they should and simple things turn into frustration inducing annoyances. It's a real shame too, since the system is *almost* good. Example: want to climb down and hang on the ledge? Forget it, something this simple is possibly the most frustrating thing you will ever do in this game.

This game also features a unique night-time experience where you must run, dodge and hide from powerful super-zombies during night time. Unlike the normal Z's, these ones chase you and can run just as fast as you can. When they catch you it's game over - so a race for the nearest safe-zone ensues. This part of the game really fills you with panicked adrenaline and mixes up the pace of the game. It is a welcome and interesting addition.

The quests suffer from the same thing they did in Dead Island - fetchy and boring for the most part. A lot of time is spent running from point to point doing meaningless fetch quests and trying to climb buildings (and failing) over and over again. It does suffer because of this and the tedious running from point to point doing nothing but boring quests drops my score down from a 8 to a 7. Sure, I can skip this content, but I would miss out on a good chunk of the game as a result.

It's a real shame that you begin to become OP later in the game, as the "survival" aspect of the game's early hours where you are scrounging for supplies and having to come up with genius plans to tackle the horde are it's strongest, definitive moments. As the game progresses, this gets thrown out of the window and you are left with another zombie smasher game with free-running tagged on.

    Jimbo Rating: 7/10

second was my first night time mission and the final nail in the coffin was the mission where I am stripped of weapons and thrown into an arena full of zombies....Fair enough, I use the weapons lying around to kill the zombies (for some reason throwing knives disappear). Then a big eff off zombie is thrown into the ring and I'm supposed to kill him without using any of the weapons I just chucked at the regular zombies. Naturally, I get slaughtered. So I try again, and again, and again. No problem, I'll just turn the difficulty down... oh wait , the game doesn't let me do that.
    Waste of $35.

My friends love this game but it's just inaccessible for me. If the zombies didn't take so many hits to go down this would be really fun. Also the number of times I aimed for landing on the trash bags and ended up missing was extremely annoying.

    Virals.

An open world, good graphics, zombie smashing and an interesting leveling system drove me to this game, but unfortunately the cons started to hollow out the gaming experience after a while.

The open world of Dying Light is more like a gamey sandbox than a well designed immersive game world. I got frequently lost in the tower headquarters at first, with all its blocked stairs and elevators. Maneuvering the tower is initially more dependant on writings on the wall than easily understandable visual design.

The city itself looks and feels a bit samey, with the same buildings, shops, encounters, loot and enemies. You'll meet random people that are just waiting around to tell you their whole melodramatic life story, all while the zombies close in on you both. Time and again you'll stumble upon the same shopkeepers that mysteriously end up in trouble, over and over again.

Enemies and loot are everywhere, but the way lockpicking and looting is implemented, slow and clumsy, it feels like more like a chore than a positive experience.

Still the worst thing to me was when those virals started to spawn all too often, after a few hours of game time. I tried to keep going, but every time I was in the zone and had some fun, mizing traps and weapons the best I could, I always ended up on a roof with a handful of virals on their way up. After repeating that 10 times for a 5 minute game session, and naively repeating that over a few days, I just started to feel pretty much done with the game.

So, here you have a zombie killing game with loads of weapons, traps and weapon upgrades which all is fun in itself to explore, but then the game punishes you for using them, with an annoying enemy that takes the fun out of the gaming experience. I can understand that they wanted a game mechanic like that, but the way it was implemented just made my brain implode...somewhat of a waste for a zombie game, perhaps.

Overall Dying Light is a hollow yet entertaining zombie-killing sandbox that will leave you a little dissatisfied if you crave a more substantial experience. After a while you might feel like you've had cake for dinner a whole week; it starts out pretty fun, but in not too long you just feel fatigued.

I died three times in one fight before beating it because I suck, instead of letting me get better and actually get satisfaction, the enemies kept the damage I had dealt so the last time I ran in I only had to hit the one guy left alive once to end it. Stupid stupid stupid.

    3) Parkour phsyics is not very fluid to me. You can make jumps that, visually you seem like you shouldn't be able to. You can't climb onto overhanging ledges above you. You can't actually sprint, there's only walking and "sprinting" which is just running. You can't slide under obstacles or wall run like Mirror's Edge, or else you have to level up a bunch first. The game would be better if all of that fluidity was just given to you in the prologue. If that means you can't have a bunch of trivial reward levels to engage players with and you actually have to write a good story, too bad.

    4) Story disappoints. No explanation for why they are sending you out to do these critical missions from the beginning and not the people they already have trained with better equipment. If you are doing a super critical mission why can't you have the baseball bat that some dude in HQ is just sitting around with. Stupid. Just standard "you're the video game hero so here do all the most important things from the beginning" with an absolute minimum of story to explain.

Just a bad mashup of Assasin's Creed, Mirror's Edge, and Zombie games that doesn't do any particular thing well.

There is a beautiful landscape, that looks far better from a afar. That's it (one point in favor), a wasteland, a misleading image that is powerful enough to sell this game to us, not as good as Banoi in the end but that is my personal preference.

C.M.Z.A. Childish mutant zombies, again. Here's a small tip: they can't be threatening and ridiculous at the same time. Just like you

    Childish mutant zombies, again.

Here's a small tip: they can't be threatening and ridiculous at the same time. Just like you can't feel like a survivor if you are also an undercover hero swinging from the rooftops.

The writing? is surprisingly uninspired for a story-driven game. Poorly designed, challenges for a fast paced action game. Too shallow to inspire any fear. The game is basically a giant playground without any real excitement).

The constant complaints of the foul-mouthed main character make him extremely annoying. That is the one thing that I will remember about this game.

Around 22% story completion you could lose all of your levels and equipment. Wish I knew this so I could have backed up my saves. ( This isn't influencing the rating i gave this game at least not intentionally).

Play time: 6 hours Pros: -Parkour albeit a little finicky at times is very enjoyable makes running between quest far less tedious plus you gain levels -Repairing and modding

    Pros:
-Parkour albeit a little finicky at times is very enjoyable makes running between quest far less tedious plus you gain levels
-Repairing and modding weapons is far faster than having to go to a work bench
-Survivor instincts great for those who like to collect everything they can saves allot of time
    -Voice acting
    -Decent story
-Night time brings another aspect-actually pretty scary to be stuck out in the dark. But also very easy to avoid as there are allot of beds and safe houses around the map waiting to be captured.
    -Good Music
-Satisfying rag doll zombie. Awesome to see a zombie go flying head over heals with a running drop kick

    Cons:
    -Poorly optimized
-Film Grain looks bad ( on PC at least you can turn it off)
    - Personally don't like losing Survivor points when I die
-Wouldn't call graphics next gen but they're good
-melee weapons feel weak so far.
Consistently killing zombies faster with running drop kicks alone base zombies take two hits most times with it upgraded one hits fairly often as well.

    Other Thoughts:
-Miss the analog combat mode from Dead Island

Overall would give it a 6 if i counted the save deleting bug

If you wanna smash some zombies head's in, and do some sweet parkour, this game is a 10/10.
However, if you want some in depth story that will have you on the edge of your seat and wanting to figure out what happens next... you should save your money. Honestly, the parkour, zombie killing, and leveling up systems in this game are great, but the game falls to pieces as soon as the story is

Honestly, the parkour, zombie killing, and leveling up systems in this game are great, but the game falls to pieces as soon as the story is introduced. This game is just Far Cry 3 with zombies. Even the main bad guy is a knockoff Voss. Overall, not worth the money if you wanted a story.

Such a gorgeous game and fun game play and then it falters by the fact that its sooooo boring with the main character.
I am so over the same boring white dude over and over and over.
Please look at other games that solved this and fix it.
I'm so disappointed after the first few hours so I'm giving it up.
    Been here done this.
    Waste of a good game.

Don't let the Dead Island affiliation sway you one way or the other, Dying Light is its own game and it's rightfully fun, but it's not something that is Game of the Year material to me. If you like zombie games and open world games then this is worth the pickup, but otherwise I'd skip it until it goes on sale, because it's still a really fun game no matter how you dice it.

It’s a game of a thousand house calls, in which everyone needs something they can’t get or do for themselves. Catastrophe has made every doorstep a welcome place, with disease and death the justification for an openness that might seem unthinkable under other circumstances.

If you can get past the clunky storytelling and the repetitive missions, you might a diamond in the rough that really empowers you to revel in the design aspects of its zombie-infested sandbox.
