Neverwinter Nights 2: Enhanced Edition rekindles a game that never quite reached the heights of its legendary bloodline. But now, with a degree of acceptance and patience, it can step onto the stage with all the confidence of an old soldier, sharing stories of how adventures used to be. Are you ready to listen?

The Enhanced Edition isn’t a major overhaul, some original issues like the clunky UI and awkward camera still persist. In return, you get improved visuals and high-resolution textures. But even with its flaws, Neverwinter Nights 2 and its Mask of the Betrayer expansion continue to offer exceptional storytelling that holds up remarkably well. Play it for the nostalgia.

Neverwinter Nights 2: Enhanced Edition is a respectful and functional restoration of the role-playing video game originally developed by Obsidian Entertainment. The graphics and overall performance have improved, but the aesthetic remains dated. Modern accessibility features are missing, while companion AI is still lacking. However, most of the content, especially Mask of the Betrayer, shines with narrative depth. This is a faithful remake that aims to preserve the magic of the original, and it largely succeeds.

Aside from reactivating multiplayer and adding controller support, it’s a package Aspyr has released with minimal effort. But since its core is so good, if you enjoy party-based D&D RPGs, it still manages to be worth playing. A significant part of its score comes from that strong core anyway.

Dungeons & Dragons Neverwinter Nights 2: Enhanced Edition brings a classic back for modern audiences. While it retains some of the idiosyncrasies of its time and can be a bit complex, it’s still well worth a try, especially with the potential of Steam Workshop!
