Anyone who’s followed the Dungeon Seige series needs this expansion pack!
-
Overall, Broken World makes for a good, fun expansion. While I feel that the new skill trees should have been added differently, I don’t see it as anything game-breaking.
-
My greatest issue with the expansion: there’s very little added in the way of quests and dungeons, and not that much effort was put into making them distinctive.
-
Game InformerThis expansion is nothing more than the quintessential extension of the base game. [Oct. 2006, p.106]
-
Dungeon Siege II fans will enjoy the chance to extend their time in the game’s world.
-
Not a great expansion pack – it’s puny, has a thin, meaningless plot, and generally feels like it was thrown together in a great rush.
-
The graphics are based on the same engine as before and thus have shown little improvement since the last iteration of the franchise. This is an expansion but not an overly long one.
-
There's enough new features, tweaks to the old systems and content to satisfy those folks still enamored with the world of Aranna.
-
Its content, side missions, new race and classes all add to the decent mix, but overall you’ll be aching for a proper sequel.
-
PC FormatThis is an expansion pack for Dungeon Siege II, and little else. [Oct 2006, p.96]
-
As a stand alone release Broken World doesn’t merit anything more than a bargain-bin purchase.
-
Broken World brings a couple of welcome new features to an already good game, but the short campaign and lack of compelling content will leave you feeling disappointed.
-
If you really crave more of that Dungeon Siege II action, you'll definitely find it in Broken World. The problem is, you won't find enough of it to last you more than two or three days.
-
PC Zone UKStill feels like watching Oh Dae-su slog his way through that goon-filled corridor. [Nov 2006, p.62]
-
The lacklustre story plus the dated look and feel of Broken World spoil Dungeon Siege II’s reputation a bit.
-
PC Gamer UKBroken World feels cheerless and sloppy compared to its glossier parent, and the fact that it even exists, so long after DSII and so resolutely aimed only at folk who've played that to death, is something of a mystery. [Nov 2006, p.92]
-
Broken World does offer everything an expansion should, after all: new game elements, new characters, tons of content, and fan-suggested tweaks. But, somehow, it still isn't all that much fun. The only conclusion to draw from this evidence is that the base game isn't very compelling in and of itself.
-
While the expansion improves gameplay in a number of important ways, including the inclusion of two new cross-classes, the actual campaign and story leave much to be desired.
-
If there's one thing that should have been fixed with the expansion and wasn't, it's the map and quest marking system. The mini-map in the corner is still fine, but the map screen is so useless, it actually takes away from the fun of the game.
-
AceGamezIt is just a bit more of the same, but lacks much of what made the original compelling. It is also too short in length and drab in appearance, providing little incentive to get from battle to battle.
-
Additions such as the re-emergence of the Dwarves as a playable character class will be welcomed by gamers disappointed by their omission in the main game, and the extra spell classes at least widen a player's armoury.
-
It’s unfortunate that it didn’t try harder to give players a truly satisfying quest.
-
Computer Games MagazineThe whole package is worth the money of any hack-and-slash fan who hasn't played "Dungeon Siege II", but it's a shame that Gas Powered Games didn't close out this installment in better style. [Nov. 2006, p.75]
-
Laid bare, Broken World isn't much to phone home about. If anything it casts a dreary shadow over Dungeon Siege II, a game that while far from perfection was solidly put together and worth recommending. This expansion on the other hand doesn't really offer enough either in terms of single-player, or the unchanged multiplayer features.
-
PC GamerBroken Worlds doesn't offer enough new gameplay to interest anyone other than the most dedicated "Dungeon Siege" fans, and its once-innovative engine now feels clunky and no longer looks impressive. [Nov. 2006, p.98]
-
Good, but not good enough.
-
The main quest is totally underwhelming and can be completed in a fraction of the time it took to complete last year's full game. When combined with some severely dated visuals and an almost thrown together storyline, there's little reason to pick this up.
-
Unfortunately, this expansion fails to add any worthwhile new gameplay mechanics or modes (multiplayer, anyone?), proving that some worlds are harder to repair than others.
