The thing that sets this apart from so many others in its genre is how you keep your party alive; major slots on dungeon floors allow you to build Major Modules (used to harvest resources), along with minor slots for offensive, defensive, and supportive modules. Three resources are harvested per door opening and modules add to their production: Food for healing, leveling, and recruiting heroes, Industry for constructing modules, and Science for researching upgrades and resetting your party's ability cooldowns. A fourth resource, Dust, is much rarer and is used to power the crystal you are escorting, which in turn powers rooms for modules.

Gameplay is both turn-based (new resources are harvested from when you open a door to a new room) and real-time (combat, movement, healing, etc.), keeping you constantly engaged despite the AI-controlled combat. The first few floors are simple enough to clear out but about halfway up you need to decide which is more important: risking your party's lives and possibly the crystal itself or running to the exit ASAP? Keeping a balanced party and wisely spending your resources will make or break your runs. Luck is always a factor but I felt that once I knew how to control the flow of spawns and properly construct defensive chokepoints that most of my losses were admittedly my own fault. This game rewards planning and strategy instead of demanding you get lucky unlike other recent Sci-fi rogue-likes (looking at you FTL & SotS: The Pit!).

Newcomers will be overwhelmed easily and probably give up easily because the tutorial is terrible and most of the game's systems have to be studied on the wiki, even with the extensive tooltips in-game. Although it practically plays itself at times and still could use some polishing and TLC, Dungeon of the Endless is a very unique Rogue-like and is worth checking out for fans of the genre.

My first impression is the very nice music and the surprisingly well done graphical style that mixes pixel art with modern effects.

The core of the game is a mixture between a semi round based exploration, a simplistic TD and a character development. - It does fit well together, but in my opinion does not offer too much change. Make no mistake, there is enough replay-value in the game,

All in all, the title is more than worth its money.

yea - that was a short review... not so much more to say about it. the game in its core is simple but well done, and thats about it.

    PROs:
    -Original
-Engrossing rogue-like tower-defense with strategy and RPG mechanics(!) -Varied and replayable thanks to the unlockables CONs: -Poorly balanced. Seems to oscillate between too easy and too hard regardless of settings. -Each run is too long. -Some tower defenses seem considerably less useful than others, also random research options make it worse.
-No plot whatsoever, despite in-depth character backgrounds.

A little polish and ironing of the CONs would make for an amazing game.

Unfortunately, the game relies upon a lot of annoying number crunching, especially regarding the "player heros", which makes critical strategic decision making a chore often times. The game makes up for this in the cute risks and implications of the plethora of ways the player can manage the accumulation and spending of the three major resources. Graphically the game is beautiful, but I wasn't a big fan of the sort of comedic and crude character designs. The games system of expansion content is confusing and bloated, sometimes even adding some uncomfortable advertising/promotional content which it could very well do without. Overall, Dungeon of the Endless is a satisfying experience, but it is not fantastic. Expand

    Almost there.
I love rogue games. This one is pretty sweet. Spent countless hours in it - and if you are a fan of rogues as well, you'll enjoy this title.
The huge minus for me is the game becomes tedious and repetitive kind of fast. With so many characters, and different ships, it's strange that the game does not suck you into replaying it more than a dozen of times. I guess it's

Anyway, i recommend - this is a very unique blend of rogue and tower defense, even though these terms alone will not do justice to the game.

There's a lot to like about this game. But, in my opinion, it also has problems which spoil it's long term enjoyability (is that a word?).

I'd like if the in game tutorial was better, and I'd like the characters to have a little more flavour; more text to flesh them out would be great. It seems like some work was put into giving some of the characters little stories that play out over

Voices would be a nice addition, but would obviously incur much more work.

There's what seems like a spike in difficulty as I get close to the end of any given game, which can sometimes feel unfair, and just makes some runs incredibly frustrating

The easiest mode feels too easy, until you get deeper into the longer runs, where they get silly.
The default mode starts off challenging and then just escalates.

I don't know, but I feel like I need more options here, or the difficulty curves need tweaking.

It could be that I'm just not picking up on how to deal with the difficulty. But if so, then the game is quite obtusely not clueing me in, or I'm a dimwit. Oh well

After a while, runs feel routine, and I found myself doing repetitive actions for too much of the game.

I think I've completed as much of the game as I'm going to at about 40 hours of play. I'd be pleased to see updates or patches to the game, which might entice me back.

A stylish, addicting mix of tower defense and roguelike elements. The pacing of the game nicely alternates from planning your defenses in peace to frantically rushing with your heroes and villains to stop the alien swarms coming at you. There could be a bit more variety with the enemies and the modules you can build, but still finding new heroes and opening the new game modes can keep you well occupied. [Feb 2015]
