I was particularly dissapointed that companions weren't a bit more interactive in the environments. Really wanted them to help pick up items, find things for you, ect.

    * The multiplayer is great if you like dungeon crawling games and loot (not something for everyone, particularly Call of Duty / FPS oriented peeps used to lone wolf style gameplay).

    * A lot of the reviews with 0s complaining about extreme crashes have been fixed since an Nvidia graphics card update was released yesterday. I find it sad though that its apparently okay to release a broken piece of software on PC, but not a console.

After the debacle of Dragon Age II, I didn't think that Bioware could mess up combat to a greater extent. Then they gave us Inquisition, boy was I wrong. If you plan on playing on a PC either 1. Give up. 2. Buy a gamepad. The PC controls are clearly a half-assed console port which make no sense at all if you are trying to use a mouse/keyboard.

Four words sum up my experience so far with Dragon Age: Inquisition - This is ludicrously broken.

    Negatives:

    - I am playing on PC, and haven't been able to make it beyond leveling up in the tutorial. After three new characters, I am still unable to level my character up. The game states, "press P to use your ability points," I rush to the screen to level up, and receive the following message, "Some features are currently unavailable"..Flabbergasted, I question, "I'm sorry, wasn't I just told to spend my ability points?"...and it appears as if users on Xbox One and PC are experiencing this issue, in which the "character record" (i.e. level up screen) is locked. Therefore, unless I wish to play the game as a level 1 character and experience NONE of the abilities beyond the base one or two offered, it's impossible to progress further. It's an insult to me as a fan of Dragon Age, as a Gamer, and as a customer, to have to put up with such a grievous flaw in a product. This issue is what primarily resulted in my low score; however, below are some other issues that are far less significant, but still contributors.

    - There's a "resource" system in which you essentially have to run around the area mashing the "search for resource/loot" button and listening to its obnoxious "ping-ping"..I don't want to have to hit a button to find resources, it's tedious and dull, and takes me out of the experience. Make the resources/loot stand out more against the environment like in Dragon Age Origins, instead of requiring me to mash a button if I want to gather resources in the environment.

-On PC, the cutscenes tend to stutter as well, apparently, allegedly, due to a 30FPS framerate lock. I haven't bothered to look online for solutions, as it doesn't bother me that much. To those who would say, "It's your computer!!!" I can't really do anything to persuade you otherwise - please go give your, obviously superior, über rig a hug.

    - Character creation is not all that in-depth. I found the menus for customizing to be clunky and counter-intuitive. For certain options there's a slider, such as for face shape (there are about 8 or so options), and for others there's a weird crosshair system in which you drag a kind of orange cross across the grid and it changes your character's eye rotation, nose bridge etc., reminiscent of the Saint's Row weight slider system, except the corners are labeled in that. I found this clunky because none of the corners are labeled. Essentially, you just drag the odd cross around until you find something you like - it's a bit haphazard. I would like to have seen more options for hair styles, tattoos et al., as well, but that's just me.

    - Another negative of Character Customization; there are no "starter story" options. You can't decide your character's background, you're assigned one automatically depending on your choice of race (of which there are 4) and class (rogue, warrior, mage). Also, everyone starts in the same exact spot...so starting a new game as a dwarf, or an elf, compared to a human, lacks the unique immersive sensation of, "Wow! There are actually different races and classes in this world, and I will be treated differently based on where I come from."

    - One last note on Character Customization: There are two voice options. Yes, two. "Average" female voice and "rather manly, not-sure-what-you-are" female voice. Again, perhaps a bit petty, but I'd have liked to see a few more voice options..even just one or two more.

    - They still haven't recaptured the beautiful elegance of the tactical view that we had in Dragon Age Origins. Still no surprise finishers (from what I saw, and I do so miss those..) and the combat feels far less brutal than that in the rather lackluster Dragon Age II.

    - Tactical view is still...rather odd. If I left click an enemy, for example, a "basic attack" icon might, or might not, appear over my selected character's portrait...so I am unsure if he/she will actually attack the target. It's also odd to move around in the tactical view with "wasd"..it feels unnatural for some inexplicable reason.
    ------------

    Positive:

+ Looks and sounds great. From the crunch of your feet in the snow to the dazzling effects of spells (from the two I saw, as a result of the error mentioned above with leveling up), the game does a great job of immersing you in the action and world.

+ Abilities feel like they have "punch" to them. When a spell impacts, or a greatsword hits, you can see the enemy flinch and it actually feels to a point, as if your actions impacts the target. However, as mentioned earlier in the negatives, the combat doesn't feel brutal, despite that feeling of impact. I'm not sure why this is, perhaps it's because the enemies in this game, as far as I have gotten, have been shades and wraiths.

+ Characters interact more than they did in 2.

+/- It has some form of class-based multiplayer, but I haven't tried it out yet.

Conclusion: I suggest waiting for patches.

I am going to lead off by saying that this is by no means a perfect game. I can say, however, that without the rose-coloured goggles so common in such comparisons, that Inquisition is a strong contender for best game in the trilogy to date.

First off, Inquisition is big. It's not big in the sense of Skyrim-big or Fallout-big where you wander through one large monotonic environment fighting wild animals and random bandits for the sake of loot and XP, it is big in the sense of Origins-big or Star Wars-big where you really get the sense you're existing in a gigantic and well-thought-out world. The sheer variety and visual expansiveness of what you get puts this high on my list of best settings in video games.

Secondly, Inquisition is densely-populated. These areas are big because they're full; every corner you wander to, every cave, every nook and cranny and hill will have fights and sidequests and interesting things to go hunting for. You can pick a direction, walk off that way, and never be bored. The inevitable slew of fedex quests are given a life of their own through the narrative tying them back to the setting and the plot; you're never asked to go kill ten mountain goats for no reason, you're asked to go find food for starving refugees and when you get back the quest-giver will tell you how pleased he is that the Inquisition is going to look out for the underdogs that nobody cares for, your organization's influence will go up, and some of your companions will approve. Everything ties back together, everything feels like it matters.

Third, combat is engaging. People have complained that Inquisition is 'dumbed down' because the set of abilities is smaller than it was in Origins; that is technically true, there are about half as many abilities for a given class in Inquisition as in Origins. Combat, however, feels less like an MMO where you set up an optimal macro and toss out the same spells in the same sequence to win every fight; your physical position matters a lot more and the abilities you're given are suited to different situations instead of something being strictly better than something else. Ability combos from Dragon Age 2 are back with increased depth; there are more conditions to exploit and more ways to exploit them.

Fourth, BioWare's characters are back in top form; I've found a little more depth to the companions here than in prior games. Characters in Mass Effect and DA2 have a set of strongly-held and unshakeable convictions barring the occasional one-time change of heart in a personal quest; Inquisition shows us characters who are willing to set aside their personal prejudices for the sake of the mission and have more multidimensional motivations. My protagonist feels more like a character himself than a sounding board for the rest of the cast to bounce off of or the cliched one-dimensional three Hawke personalities.

Inquisition is not all sunshine, rainbows, and a gigantic world that is a joy to explore, unfortunately; the game plays on PC like it was intended for consoles, and has some distracting control scheme issues that detract from the experience. The tactical camera is moved with the arrow keys, there's no mouse pan, and menus will occasionally bug out and not recognize the mouse (it is a good idea to learn to navigate them with the keyboard for when this happens; I've never seen it happen in gameplay, only in menu screens). The lack of click-to-move makes getting to things to pick up and loot frustrating and when combined with the camera angles in non-main-plot conversations sometimes leads to strange body positions. Facial animation and body language haven't advanced here and we're still stuck with the same limited suite of animations earlier BioWare games have used. The main plot starts off abruptly and without adequate explanation; the story finds its stride quickly, however.

This is not a traditional cliched fantasy game; if you want the story of a lone muscular hero slaughtering their way through hordes of foes in a monochromatic setting for the experience points and battling an evil overlord with dragon-bone plate armour and a legendary sword reforged from the shards of his father's (who the evil overlord killed, of course) go somewhere else. This is the story of a world, with a thirteen-member ensemble cast leading an army, doing battle in forests with swords and in the court of public opinion with words, both with equal proficiency. This is a story where you have the power to shape the destiny of nations, not by killing a king and then wandering off to go grind some more but by building infrastructure and political power. Inquisition is a worthy successor to Origins as a detailed and intense dark fantasy that subverts and rewrites the conventions of the genre with equal glee and comes out with a cohesive and intelligent narrative and a fun game on the other side.

Not to mention, most people have not played enough hours of this game to have the credibility to pass such judgment. That being said, here are the only issues I have with this game:

PC: Look at minimum system requirements! You're going to have a rough time playing if your hardware isn't good! You wont even be able to get it running on a dual-core!

360: Graphics aren't too good, which makes sense. I was hoping for graphics to be more polished, but it's understandable considering how much graphics must be scaled down to run this on a previous generation console. Graphics are on par with Skyrim on 360, but if you're looking for a gem, you're going to be disappointed.

One/PS4: No complaints besides software issues with PS4. It happens people. Unless youre a software designer who thinks they could do a better job, let them work through the bugs. It happens with EVERY game.

Positives: This game brings the best of DA Origins and II without most of their negatives. It's open world, and not linear. Your character has great movement and its not blocky or clunky. It is more strategic than DA II, being a little less tactical than DA Origins. Just a little. I'd consider calling it a well-polished, updated DA Origins. There's so much more customization in the game than previous ones. You can customize the way you look, how gear looks, and modify weapons/armor. Combat is great. You have gap closers for melee and awesome animations for ranged characters. Auto attacks give it the feel of a hack and slash while still having tactical options. I've played well-through Skyrim, including all DLC's and this game's combat and exploration reigns supreme over the amount of utility I've gotten from playing Skyrim. It seems to have taken the positive aspects of Skyrim and improved upon it's weaknesses (combat, non-customizable armor). I loved Skyrim. I love this game even more.

Negatives: Release bugs. It's annoying, yes, but it's totally understandable. As a user, I understand things need to be polished on their end.
Graphics on 360. Theyre acceptable. I wish they had found a better option for graphics but things get complicated when trying to cover several platforms. If you have a One or PS4, get it. If you have a 360, it's definitely still worth the buy!! Just don't expect amazing graphics.
Issues on PC: There are a lot of issues with PC compatibility. Of course, it's my fault for not looking at minimum requirements. Look at your hardware!!!! It's your responsibility to verify if itll work on your rig! (i.e Why would you buy Netflix if you don't have access to the internet?)
Character interaction: It seems like your dialogue options don't have a lot of effect on the characters around you. You get notices of displeasure or pleasure with bad or good responses, but I've yet to see heavy repercussions of making a character hate me. Ofcourse, I'm nowhere near beating the game, so well see.

I'd say this game is one of the best RPG's I've played to date. I like rankings so if it helps make up your mind, heres where I'd put it on the ladder:

    1. SW KOTOR
    2. DA Inquisition (So far around 20+ hours)
    3. Skyrim
    4. ME 3
    5. DA Origins
    6. ME
    7. Witcher
8+. KOTOR 2, DA II, Elder Scroll series, ME II and so on.

Again, its a great game so far. Don't let the 0-4's fool you. This game is definitely not worth anywhere near that rating. The lowest rating I'd understand being given is maybe a 6 or 7 for 360 users or angry PC people who don't meet recommended hardware requirements. But then again, those people probably didn't put much time into the game warranting a reliable opinion.

Hope this review has helped! Happy hunting!

You will make decisions that will affect how your companions will treat you and decisions that will make you both allies and enemies.

Gameplay is really fun. There are loads of side quests and crafting material to gather. It will keep you playing for hours without doing the main quest. The combat can get intense and you will need to pause and plan out next move. The difficulty spike can get high sometimes, but after careful planning, I was able to overcome those trials The skill tree follows closer to the ones in DA2, which I don't find it too bad. IT's intersting to know that this is first DA game to have attributes level up automatically. This gets rid of hassle of what to raise when leveling your character. Character creation has multiple choices to choose from. There are 4 races:Humans, elves, dwarves, and qunari, and 3 classes: Rouge, Warrior, and Mage. Each class has multiple sub-classes. Each classes feels fun to play. By choosing the right members, your party can be deadly group.

As for the graphics....it's rather disappointing. I'm playing on my limited xbox 360, and I think they could have put more efforts for the console. Sometimes the texture doesn't load for 30 secs. Returning character models look akward. Really awesome design on areas though!

My final thought: Although it's much better than DA2, it's not as good as DA:O and could have used bit more polishing

I fall in the latter category. I may be in the minority, but judging by the distribution of reviews, this is a large minority. Most importantly, I found the tactical camera to be unusable. The camera does not pull back far enough to give you a good sense of the battlefield, is difficult to move around, and always seems to zoom way in on the selected character. So I spend a lot of time fighting the camera instead of my enemies. Also, character AI is not good, so I'm constantly fighting AI tendencies as well (which is a particular challenge given the camera difficulties).

Ultimately, I simply gave up on the tactical camera and will just use the over-the-shoulder view. This is a disappointment, as I would prefer to really dig into the game by ramping up the difficulty and approaching the battles more tactically (use of the tactical camera does help with more difficult battles). Instead, I'm treating this game as a walk through the park - enjoy the scenery and story, but don't try too hard.

I rate the game 5/10 because, despite the above shortcomings, this game does have some significant positives (that, for brevity, I did not discuss).

The graphics of scenery and characters have gotten incredibly better compared to the previous games. Who cares if the characters are a little bit shiny and plastic-looking? At least they decently look human compared to the robot-looking characters in the previous games. The only Dragon Age game that I thought was appropriate to play on the PC was Origins. Inquisition makes sense to be played on a station because a controller seems to make more sense rather than a keyboard. There is a true sense of character development and a lot of options for romance.

I pray that Mass Effect 4 redeem Bioware for this ****. ENOUGH TO BUY GAMES IN PRE PURCHASE (except for "The Witcher 3"). I remember playing "Jack Sparrow" version of the Mass Effect series, finished the game several times and even then later buy the original version, because it is an excellent series and really wanted to have it ... Dragon Age until the moment will be remembered as a series who started brightly and was degrading fast ... I even miss Dragon Age 2 ... man, how much could spoil the combat system of this game (DA I). Expand

Some games, are so bad they are actually good. Dragon Age 2 was a miserable mediocricy, Dragon Age: Inquisition is simply bad.

Game is superb and is easily one of the best RPG's I have ever played. The reasoning behind giving it a slightly lower score is due to the controls and optimization on PC. This game is an example of a crappy console port. Bloated and cluttered UI, cumbersome menu UI and non-existing customization options for Keybindings (can't even bind mousebuttons to anything). What happend between Dragon Age Origin and now? The game used to be really good ... now it's an "MMORPG-Combat-Like" Action button masher designed for Consoles.

Do not buy this game. It is a abomination and there needs to be a consumer inquisition that puts EA to justice for destroying yet another great video game studio. DA:I doesn't follow Dragon Age Origins nostalgia at all. It is basically a glorified DA:2 with simplified controls. The only real good area are the graphics, but even those are poor to my standards. RIP Bioware. The story isn't even that appealing, it has drastically changed and offered no decent story bridges from DA:O.

Plus, you need Origins to run this software, because EA doesn't like to share their games with other software distribution services. Typical self-serving attitude of a giant like EA.

The question is: How much longer will people allow EA to suck in their favorite franchise and then burn it out into ash? I gave it 3 stars instead of 0, because the Graphics and Voice acting seem to be the only good thing about this game.. Everything else is a insult to what Bioware stood for, and what they created.

I am quite disappointed so far. I was hoping for something more like DAO. It reminds me of Rift. The graphics are not very good. Been playing it on the laptop, which is quite beefy, but the frame rate is horrible and the games tends to crash. There are so many things I dislike about this game, I am so crushed. So disapointed...

    - Design of armor and weapons is so awful...
    - Characters. I guarantee that none of them won't become a cult hero. 100%.
    - Don't wait for a beautiful women like Morrigan or Isabela, in DAI we have ONE romansable girl and She looks like a man. Maybe, new Bioware lead disigner is Anita Sarkeesian?
    - Okey, there two girls, I just can't remember the adviser's name - is it Kelly or Samantha?
    - Find a cave, kill 100 mobs, find armor, read a note. Explorations are perfect XD
    - Elves are anorexic. Feed your elves, you cruel rasists! And dismiss the lead designer.

I like the music and customization system, but it isn't enough... Not enchantment. Not good old DAO.

I'll be honest here, I play RPG games for the story and characters, not the hardcore tactical mechanics. So if you want to read another review that's moaning about how they gutted the tactics system, look elsewhere.

From a story/character perspective, this game is incredible. It takes the epic story of Dragon Age Origins and the interesting and multifaceted characters from Dragon Age II (the characters being one of the few things that the sequel actually did right) and combines them to great effect. Even more so than other games with a similar story formula, you really feel like your character is just some ordinary person thrust into greatness, whether it's wanted or not.

As for the gameplay, well, like I said, they gutted the tactical system so people who REALLY enjoyed setting up party member tactics are probably disappointed (so disappointed, in fact, that most of them are ignoring all the things this game does right and giving a 0 score just because of that one thing). On the other hand, if that one aspect of DAO didn't appeal to you, then DAI does just about everything right. Combat is fluid, controls are responsive, and it's just plain fun.

And then there's the graphics. Not the best, obviously, but then BioWare has NEVER been the best at graphics. They've actually got a pretty horrible track record in that department, stretching all the way back to even before the first Mass Effect. That said, the graphics in this game are definitely a massive leap forward from their previous offerings.

I'm glad they went with a more open-world design for this game. It definitely benefits from that, since they decided to go big when it came to area design. Just the Hinterlands area around Redcliffe is bigger than the entirety of DA II (and possibly most or all of DAO as well), and that's only a small fraction of the game world. And these massive areas aren't empty; they're filled with content to explore and enemies to fight.

All in all, I'd say that the only downside of this game, at least from my perspective, is the obviously console-inspired menus. The interface is one of the many things that Origins did much better than Dragon Age II, but one of the only things that Inquisition didn't improve on.

Good game if you're looking for Korean mmorpg dressed as a single RPG, unless you are looking for adult dark fantasy, so you're unlucky. In this case, I would recommend everyone to play again top of dark fantasy in recent years, Dark Souls: Prepare to Die or wait for Witcher 3 or Bloodborne. DA: I is embarrassing, cheap, cliché fantasy for teenagers.

I don't know why people are giving this game low scores, it really is fun. I have played about 5 hours and feel that I have already gotten my money worth. The PC controls are defiantly clunky and need to be tweaked and I think the tactical camera is weird but still usable. I had a small problem downloading the game, but fixed it quickly.

My graphics have been great so far, no stuttering at all. I like the characters that I have met and find them complicated and interesting, unlike Skyrim which I felt had fairly flat characters. I think the voice acting is wonderful. Great game!

I truly enjoyed this game. This is probably due to the fact that I am older than 10. If you liked Dragon Age: Origins but disliked Dragon Age 2, this game will not disappoint. I will say, it's probably best to have either played through Origins and 2 or at least read through the synopsis online.

Despite numerous shortcomings, the new BioWare project is undoubtedly worth your attention. One of the best RPGs of 2014.
