With a running time between 4-6 hours, The Descent is one of the strongest pieces of post game content Bioware has ever offered. Through a good story and inspired environmental choices, Dragon Age‘s Deep Roads becomes the dark and deadly place the Dwarves of Orzammar always speak of.

Though The Descent has the foundation of a strong side campaign, the characters aren't memorable enough and the story finishes too loosely to leave a lasting impression. Perhaps if it came coupled with a fully reimagined Orzammar or characters who have some permanence, it would have been an adventure that wasn't as closed off and didn't have an awkward aftertaste.

Too brief and inconsequential to live up to expectations. One for Dragon Age lore obsessives and ardent completionists.

The Descent is a decent addition for players who are dying to get back into the game for a bit or prolong their experience, but ultimately casual players will want to skip it, or wait for holiday sales.

In some ways, this is a step up from Jaws of Hakkon. The linear layout allows for a story focus more like that of DLCs from earlier Dragon AgeIn some ways, this is a step up from Jaws of Hakkon. The linear layout allows for a story focus more like that of DLCs from earlier Dragon Age games. And the combat is better than that of JoH or the box game (not that that's necessarily saying much).

But like Jaws of Hakkon, and probably even more so, this feels super cheap and completely ignores everything I liked best about the Dragon Age games. First, your regular companions feel like cardboard cutouts. They say almost nothing as the game relies on two new characters to take that over. This absolutely kills any hope of being immersed in the world. Second, you make almost no choices that have an impact on the game. Dialogue is informational only.

Make no mistake: The Descent, like Jaws of Hakkon before it, is purely a cash grab. Never before DA:I has BioWare released a DLC half so dissatisfying. Ordinarily, that's where their best work was done. It is as baffling as it is offensive that content like this-- which hardly feels more than a good fan mod-- is retailing for the same price as Mass Effect 3's Citadel DLC, which clearly took vastly more love and effort to create.

Nevertheless, also the DLCs suffers a bit from the generel boringness of the whole DA:I game. I gave the main game a 6, this DLC is a 7.

15 Euros is too much, I bought the whole GOTY for 8 Euros!

Again the DLC for 15 bucks. This time instead of an extensive location from the last addition, we are given the opportunity to walk on deep paths, to remember as passed on them in the first part. But again, except Dana and heaps of enemies whose spawn is broken, you have to break from the start of the dive to the end point, while shredding fat mobs, which you send in batches, there is drama that doesn't involve, and in General 15$ off.
