    Possibly its best home game to date. It wears its 8-bit roots on its sleeve and delivers exciting beat-em-up action most of the time. The overall package is hurt by occasionally clunky controls, iffy platforming and a lack of online play. Longtime fans of the series will be right at home with the overall package, though. The core gameplay is rock-solid and is well-worth checking out for longtime fans, while newcomers will find out exactly why the franchise has been so beloved over the years.

    We wish we'd loved Double Dragon IV a little bit more. It can be chaotic and frustrating, with some obvious problems (no online play! How is that even possible?) and a pretty limited arsenal. But it has the true, genuine Double Dragon's DNA, and that's all that matters to a real fan. It won't cost you but a few bucks, and that's also nice.

    Double Dragon IV isn’t a good game in a modern sense, but it certainly is an honest trip back in time that will, if nothing else, offer a heavy dose of nostalgia for anyone with a fondness for the Lee Brothers' 8-bit adventures. Frankly, it mimics its source material perfectly. It’s a worthwhile historical artifact if nothing else, but absolutely cannot match the vast improvements in gaming since those early days.

    Double Dragon IV can be completed in just one hour and doesn´t live up to the expectations. Neither its graphics nor the gameplay meet the bare minimum to be expected these days, crowded with awesome games with retro aesthetics. A missed opportunity for the old fashioned beat em up genre.

    Double Dragon IV has only nostalgia value. Beyond that, the game does not really have any reason to exist. Better try a classic game of the series to known emulators out there.

    I like old-school brawler. I like pixelart. But Double Dragon 4 is too old-school for its own sake. Instead of trying to stay true to its roots and modernize the concept here and then this game seems like they just changed the sprites and backgrounds from Double Dragon 2.

    It does nothing more than to remind us that the NES version of Double Dragon wasn’t anything more than a seriously downgraded version of the arcade one. It doesn’t help that this tedious sequel reuses most of the old assets without even trying to bring something new.

    Double Dragon 4 is a perfect solution for people who want to relive every bad design feature of 20th century arcade games. Feel once again that surge of emotions when enemies hit you from offscreen, or when you die during a clunky but merciless platforming section. Not to mention the authentic earworm music. Hell, even most fan-games are far superrior, like Abobo's big adventure, which is a masterpiece. Even plot here looks like garbage, and we talking about old-school beat em up here.
    Boring levels, braindead fighting system, severe lack of content, poor techical side of PC version (not even able to make this crap look right in fullscreen mode). Don't affirm Ark's laziness and never buy this one, or get immidiate refund if you do.    … Full Review »

    If you're an old school type of player. You "should" probably love this.

    Added is a 2-Player Fight mode from the originals.
    (You unlock all the characters for the duel mode by beating the Single Player/Co-op game.)

    After you complete the Main story there is a tower mode that has 100 rooms/levels or so.
    (You only have one life to make it as far as you can.)

    When you reach certain points in the tower, you can then unlock Enemy characters to play through the story mode with.

    There's quite a few moves too.
    (I love that the special moves can be done in one button press instead of a combo. Which there are a few combos as well.)

    The graphics are mildly upgraded from the originals.
    The sounds are still classic.
    The music is only so-so. (Sort of calming music actually.)
    The controls feel more responsive and smoother than the originals.

    I have no personal complaints about the game.

    9/10.

    It's truly my favorite Double Dragon ever and I feel it delivers on all fronts.
    Could it be upgraded a tad more?
