The solution to the game's own internal puzzle, then, is to slot something else into the gap, to connect those disparate edges. [Issue#372, p.114]

Dorfromantik is the game version of a relaxing break. It's almost like putting together a puzzle, only in a slightly more interactive form. You lay down tiles with different landscape elements, and try to make them fit together.

Dorfromantik is sunshine on the screen, with a puzzling heart that will keep you busy for days. [Eurogamer Essential]

Part town-planning exercise, part board game, this thoughtful debut gives plenty of scope for strategy and idealism. [Early Access Score = 80]

Really, this is one of those games for which early-access status was a bit of a misnomer, not because it had no room to improve or features to add, but because its premise was so fully, perfectly realized from the start. Add too much to it, or do anything that might disturb its delicate balance between friction and flow, between logic and naturalism, and it would have been ruined. But the Toukana team knows better than that. They are at peace, strolling through the countryside of the mind. [Polygon Recommends]
  5. In short, I'm still very much in love with Dorfromantik, and I don't see that changing any time soon. Its forever status is assured. [RPS Bestest Bests]

Like many of my favorite small strategy games, Dorfromantik activates what I think of as my meditative lizard brain, thanks to the tiny thrill of getting those hexes to fit together. It’s well-suited to casual engagement, and challenging enough for the score obsessed (myself included) to play it over and over.

A very fun relaxing game of building cities and landscapes. I don't know why but it's really addicting.

In most games this would be inexcusable, but often times the frustration is the result of my own mistakes building up, and occasionally a bit of bad luck, rather than poor game design or clunky mechanics.

I hope this game continues to get updates and content post-release.
