The result is a dozen levels that span an incredibly diverse range of locations that eclipse everything you can see in DOOM (2016) in just the first couple hours. Double jump, dash, and wall climbing create the opportunity for platforming puzzles and sprawling worlds that the developers have maximized to their full potential.

If you loved DOOM 2016 I think you’re are going to love DOOM Eternal. It takes the best parts of 2016 and somehow finds a way to improve on them. Throw in some amazing easter eggs, new enemy types, movement mechanics and level design and you have a formula for amazing. Sure it’ll take a level or so to figure out this new combat rhythm but once you find it, you’ll never want to go back.

Doom Eternal is a ceaseless, panicked nightmare that pushes you to point and click with more skill and style than ever before.

DOOM Eternal is an fast-paced, gory and excellent game. The weapons feel great, the new systems and gadgets make the combat flow even better than the previous game. The levels are bigger and easier to navigate, and when the combat flow hits you nothing is better. Shooting, freezing and blowing up hoards of demons have never been better.

Doom Eternal kicks ass. It's smarter than it looks, faster than it looks, and somehow even more fun than it looks. A triumph—except for the platforming.

Doom Eternal’s combat encounters are, quite possibly, the best in the genre. Snappy movement, a varied arsenal and executions, alongside a soundtrack that mixes atmospheric synths with pounding drums and devastating downtuned guitars all feed into the game’s trademark frenetic action. There’s unrivaled euphoria in crushing a demon’s head underfoot before moving on to kill hundreds more of his friends in equally brutal ways. Really, the only thing holding Doom Eternal back from reaching its full potential is its platforming which – although improved – take up too much time that could have been spent doing what Doom Eternal does best: letting you shoot the literal Hell out of scores of demons.

It can be tedious and exhausting. Its faux angst and exuberance and hellstory can be grating. It’s probably a level or two too long. But in the end, there’s something so lovable about Doom Eternal, so endearingly goofy about the gory glory kills, so affectionate in the way a monster looks at me cross-eyed as I shove a blade up through its chin and out of the top of its skull. The conventional wisdom is that the monsters in this rebooted Doom gameplay are resources, and what I call shortage is just the necessary harvesting of a monster crop. But more to the point, they’re my playmates in this hopped-up jungle gym with its trampolines and swing bars and tunnels. We’re all in this together to make a colorful over-the-top playground with blaring metal music and blazing quick movement and splatter gunplay and chainsawyering. It’s enough to win over even the coldest critical heart.

Platforming was easy, but there more a lot of it which I don't mind. Combat is really intense and butt clenching in each of its own terms. Storytelling was greatly understandable (esp in codex) and it really doesn't take the game away. The only thing that I find kinda sad was that you could kinda see who the Doom Slayer is at this point. I wanted him to be a big mystery of a superhuman.

Now for all these people that complain that so many has changed in Doom Eternal. It was for the betterment of it. Mainly because its a sequel meant for more varieties to happen. The devs were right, they doubled down as many things could happen compared to 2016. I don't see myself going back to 2016 for the gist of it as well. Its like improvement is being bad for you doomers who can't even get good in this game.

People rant about the AMMO, in all honesty there are many scattered ammos around arenas, even the respawning fodders of which you could chainsaw. "The chainsaw became a reload weapon." Since when has it not? You have to use the chainsaw effieciently during your battles. Not when all your weapon ammos are depleted. Hence it refuels quickly. Don't get your arse stuck up when everythings low because you've got the mentality of only using it on occasions. 2016 basically has too many ammo that you just constantly use one weapon most of the time, aka super shotgun. Doom Eternal teaches you to use the each of your weapons which makes your gameplay more fluid than ever. I can't believe you guys just can''t handle what weapon is necessary for each and every demon. If you properly use your ammo resources, then you'll still have a lot in the end of the combat.

The MARAUDERS are there to show off your skills if you can take this demon down instantly. Shooting him brainlessly punishes you to die. This demon basically controls the arena where the others won't, thats why hes so unique. The mf is basically your demonized reflection. "BuT dOoM is SuPpOseD tO be a FaSt pAcE gAMe" Yeah if you actually learn how to beat the Marauder, you'd beat him in less than 20sec tops. Hell, prolly even 10. Here's a tip, stay mid-range from him and super shotgun or ballista him when hes near. Don't shoot his shield for crying out loud. The wolf only comes out when you do it. That''s why you never shoot brainlessly.

Level Designs are too complex? Excuse me but I remembered 2016 to be too dull and repetitive considering its just full on red. Its also tight in many combat areas where theres no free flow to roam around in. Even if the platform is like Mario, I would never doubt you that you couldn't finish them. They're easy to bypass and understandable. Atmosphere felt in place as well considering each level designs are very different from one another.

Punching does nothing? Blood punch basically destroys most of the enemies in Eternal. Maybe you people forget that theres such a thing as that one. If you people can't comprehend the amount of throwables at your hand, then you're not thinking through and through on your gameplay, no wonder why you love 2016 so much. Its not even required for you to use them, considering you control what you play, but its necessary to use these to help your combat.

For the story, I have no saying of it considering I like it, but many do, I do not know why but its everyones perspective.

I guess people really want realistically looking games, how does cartoonish graphics make the game look more ugly?

Even Doom 2016 was easy to beat to why I kinda got bored to it. Nightmare you say? that doesn't spice things too much even that one was okay to deal with. Doom Eternal's difficulty is rewarding and great. Even if i lost, Ive had extra lives in my hands and it rewards you into becoming an actual Slayer.

In all honesty I think the people who whine are the ones who can't see themselves playing hardcore action skilled fps games at all. These people can't handle quick thinking and just blatantly relies on going all on no mind process shooting. Go back to call of duty if that's what you're after if you want simple repetitive game mechanics. Its you who has a problem with the game, not the game itself.

What happened to "Shoot it until it dies" ?!

The gunplay is boring and tedious with constant interruptions and forced weapon-switching.
What happened to "Shoot it until it dies" ?!

The gunplay is boring and tedious with constant interruptions and forced weapon-switching.

Melee is basically useless unless you "glory-kill" and the way to fight the demons is way too passive.

The Story is.... okayish... but the main-protagonist is way too calm and tries to be "serious", You see it at some scenes where he was supposed to act (=whip your gun out and shoot the demon) but he had to stand there and listen calmly.

And the WORST offender in this game are the platforming-sessions.
Mario with guns and annyoing platforming-sections.
Its like the game wants to take everything away that made classic DOOM and DOOM 2016 great.

Playing through it was a chore, but I didn't even know how bad the 2 DLC's for this cinematic-simulator could be: It got worse every hour!
