This game is a lot better than DOOM 2016. It's way more challenging on the same difficulty levels, game is more enjoyable in every aspect. Finished DOOM 2016 twice, this however is way more replayable. Story is fun, it's not a movie, just some quick cutscenes that can be skipped if you really don't care about the story. People seem to forget that you can skip it altogether if you're here only for Ripping and Tearing enemies. I guess people can't enjoy games that aren't super simple. It's solid arena shooter with great levels, good platforming, awesome guns and hell it's a DOOM game in 2020. Expand

Its diffrent than 2016 doom. It changed many things for the better. No weapon or equipment feels useless and no weapon is an "i win" button (man the gauss cannon from 2016 was OP AF) . The combat is much more demanding from the player and way faster. Upgrades and runes are also more balanced and searching for secrets is for me much better than the way doom 2016 did those.

Oh and about the plaforming. Usually i hate platforming with all of my body. I hate platforming games i hate platforming in action games and i despise platforming in shooters and i never felt annoyed by Ethernals . It was a just a break from ripping and tearing that i needed and the longer you play the less of it there is imo. Now i don't think the game is a 10/10 im rly only giving it that score cuz there is no way that the 7,6 it has now is in any way shape or form reflecting on how good this game is its at the very least as good as doom 2016. I think some folks just expected it to cure cancer or something and they are dissapointed that is "just" a doom game

I've put over 100 hours into Doom 2016 because it's so fun to replay. I love getting into the flow state and strategizing in real time. Doom Eternal took some adjustment, as many of my old strategies did not work out the box. Once I got the new flow, I grew to love it. There's an insane amount of work that's been put into this game. Every single demon serves a purpose, and they really push you to understand how to take down each type. At first, this annoyed me--I wanted to just pound everything with the same weapon. But Eternal forces you to think harder. You have to prioritize enemy types and learn (often the hard way) which ones to save for last, vs which to take out immediately. Once that prioritization was in my brain, I had to learn the new rhythm of ammo/health/armor management. In a way, Eternal makes this easier than 2016: there are infinitely spawning fodder that can be farmed for resources. Fire = armor, glory kill or ice bomb = health, chainsaw = ammo. Mixing and matching the various mechanics to recoup was really effective. However, it has an odd side effect: the new mobility options make the player so fast that you can typically run away from a big boy who's beating you up and just keep running until you've found enough fodder to be at full health/armor/ammo. This was useful in allowing me to turn the tide of a battle that was going poorly. However, one thing I liked about 2016 was that the options for recovery were limited--you basically needed to not get in too much trouble in the first place. That made 2016 better at forcing high performance at all times. In Eternal, you can screw up, then panic and run laps until you're OK again. They did introduce things like whiplashes and marauders that seem really good at interrupting a panic lap, which I appreciate. But in the end, I felt Eternal's new mechanics made it so forgiving that they had to make the battles that much more hectic. In the end, I loved finishing Eternal. The scale was jaw dropping, and the demon designs were fantastic. It runs incredibly well.

There are some things I'm lukewarm on. Platforming was hit or miss. Some sections I legit enjoyed, others were tedious and not well designed. Also, there are too many meters to track when the game is this insane. I absolutely cannot keep track of whether my ice grenade, frag grenade, chainsaw, or blood punch were ready to go. In practice, there's never enough time to look and think "is my blood punch ready?" Instead, you just go on instinct. I think cooldowns work better in slower games. The final boss fights were way more fun than the spider mastermind in 2016. However, no boss fight in Eternal was as good as Cyberdemon from 2016! But in the end, I loved Eternal. It's made some great innovations to the genre and I'm excited to see its influence on future FPSs. Ultimately, I only docked one point from a perfect score because I have died multiple times in ways that felt unreasonable. For instance, when there's so much going on that I literally cannot see a demon through all the on screen effects, then it kills me, it's a bit frustrating since I could not possibly have avoided it. The best deaths are the ones where I'm left thinking "Oh if I'd done something different I could have avoided that!" Most of the time, Eternal does that well, but more than 2016 I found myself dying from unavoidable stuff I never saw coming.

This game could easily become the best shooter of 2020, if not the best shooter of the decade. And to clarify, we are talking about Half-life Alex here. Trust me, it's that good. Every aspect, from the visuals, gameplay, and design were implemented to create the most satisfying game I have ever played. When it comes to action-packed gameplay, I have yet to see an FPS that surpassed Doom Eternal.

Even I was skeptical about this game. When I first saw the updated interface I was very angry. The cool thing is, is that these developers are very good at their job. They overhauled the interface to what it is now. Even if it is still apparent and full of color, I think it works well. I say that confidently, even though I am huge nitpick when it comes to interface. I can even make the interface red, thank God.

This properly shows how much Id cares for their fans. Not that bitter, ignorant, and frankly thoughtless crowd of people who claim that 2016 was better. Honestly, I don't think it's even possible to convince them otherwise, considering that their reviews are only filled with the same three bad things about the game over and over again. It takes a lot of closemindedness to come to the conclusions that they do. People like that don't want to try anything new and hate having to think when they play a game. Spoilers, you actually have to think when you play this game. I find it almost impossible to say 2016 was better than Eternal. It almost makes me think that these people didn't play the game all the way through, and got overly frustrated on one aspect of the game you could easily ignore. I don't know why the loot economy was so hard for people to cope with too. Just chainsaw and flame belch occasionally. It's the easiest part of the game, honestly. Finally, a doom game that makes you manage resources and think a little bit. If only more games were like that.

A relatively small part of this game that people love to complain about is the platforming. The platforming just was a brief and fun way to bridge the gap between various locations. For once the thing separating different arenas wasn't just a hallway.

It seems that things that made the game awesome, like verticality, more weapons, and more demons seemed to be the common complaint listed in these negative reviews. Doom Eternal improved upon all aspects of 2016, and I mean all of them. All of the true flaws of this game like the purple sludge, and occasional encounters with the marauder, were newer smaller problems that Doom Eternal created on its own. For you to hate this game, you needed to already hate all platforming, any form of cutscenes, even the short and good ones, and anything more colorful than a couple of greys and oranges. Luckily these diehard, lazy, close-minded reviewers are in the vast minority.

In short, this game is very very good. Nothing, under no circumstances, should keep you from buying this game. Yes, this is incredibly different than 2016, but also immensely more enjoyable. Id outdid themselves by a landslide in every way. This is, by far, the best game I have ever played.

But honestly, the multiplayer was pretty wack.

Doom Eternal is everything I wanted from a Doom sequel and more. The OST is even better than the original, the pace is insane, don't move and you die, you are always with low ammo. Enemies look familiar to Doom ][. I love the new 'Mario bros-like' additions of jumping through hoops. It feels like a modern version of Doom ][ meets Mario World.

The music is fantastic as always, but for some reason I didn't hear the little jingle you would get in between glory kills like you did in 2016 (it helped to show how cool the soundtrack was in 2016). Now the multiplayer is good, but I would still like to see a variety of gamemodes in it still. The story is alright, they don't really explain some things but WHY SHOULD YOU CARE? I've played 20 hours so far, and I'm a completionist, so I'm getting every item and taking a deep look at the lore and story. I have been playing this since 1993, and to see where they took the story makes me feel so fulfilled. Calling it a "satanic cartoon" is pretty ridiculous. Do you realize how NOT realistic the premise is to begin with? What were you expecting? It is a fake story, but a very cared and loved one to both devs and fans alike. I personally feel like I'm getting SO MUCH MORE than I wanted from this game. Those complaining about graphics being worse...I can't even. I am playing this on PC with a 2080 Ti on the highest settings on a CRG9 49" UW...5120x1440 at 120 FPS...no lag...the textures and details are astounding and the best graphics of any game I own PERIOD. While other games offer these settings, it's usually at the cost of some performance. id knew this and really made this work for such a fast-paced game.

Bottom-line, you can't please everyone..that's for sure. It's harder with the new mechanics, but, to me, in a good way...and I really feel like I have to work to be UNSTOPPABLE. In DOOM 2016, I feel like I was too strong..and the game was much easier. I feel a reward for playing intelligently and being strategic...and the speed is INSANE. The level designs are MASSIVE and fit arena style playing, which...I mean, do I even have to say that id's games are all this way? Sigh...just watch videos to see if you want it or not. This reviewer has been a fan of id since Wolf3D, and I am SO happy to be seeing where they are today.

Some dubbed it as the best fps ever. But Doom eternal is better than its predecessor in every possible way. They tweaked the best parts of Doom 2016 and made them better. And improved in some ares which needed improvements. The story in every doom game is like an bonus feature. You dont need it but its there. But in Doom Eternal the took the story from Doom 2016 and made it better. Its not just slaying demons anymore now you have a meaningful story to play for but as I said the story is just a bonus. Now let’s talk about gameplay, Its fast. Very fast. Like no other fps. Well if you played Doom 2016 you know what exactly I’m talking about. Fast, fun, Chaotic. That’s what doom is all about. And yes Glory Kills. The best new thing they added to the franchise in 2016 got better in Eternal. You have more glory kills Than doom 2016 and its satisfying as ever. Eternal is challenging than 2016 too. With less ammo to start up and also no unlimited ammo pistol So you really have to count your shots strategies every encounter and use your chainsaw accordingly. And in higher difficulty youll day. Alot. So stack uo those extra lives by exploring every level. In this game exploration wont just give you collectables and secrets, It will also give you suit upgrades, Sentinel batteries to unlock more items and upgrades in the fortress of doom. Yes now you have your own fortress where you can see your collectables and unlock tons of items. Theres also the slayer rooms in every level. You’ll get the slayer key by beating the slayer rooms and unlock a super weapon which i wont spoil. Every side stuff has rewards for late game. But it wont hurt you if you dont do them. And yes you can customise your slayer with different suits unlocked by collecting sentinel batteries. Now game design. Its better than 2016. The engine produces more colour which makes each level more vibrant. The guns also got major redesigns which make them loom like og Doom counterparts. The demons also got redesign to make them look like og doom counterparts which is pure fan service from id software. The sound design is brilliant. Better than any other game out there. And with the best soundtrack in the history of everything, its a complete blast to play through. I even sat down on the main menu just to enjoy the main menu theme. Now level design. It felt kinda linear to me. But the platforming section are a great addition to this game. Where doom 2016 was sometime confusing and caused a lot of back tracking during my play through. but eternal was straight forward. No backtracking. Just go to the objective and kill demons. So finally I think this game is goty material. This year we’ll see some most hyped and anticipated game releases. so lets see if they can catch up with DOOM. Final verdict is a solid 10/10 For me. Must buy. Go buy it. And stay home and slay the demons! Expand

I'm not very good at FPS in general, but now I'm happy with my key selections, I'm gong to learn the "dance" if I can. I'm still a Doom fanboy even though I'm rubbish at FPS gaming. I'm better at the classic Doom games from the 90's.
