I´m not a big anime fan and haven´t played any of those visual novels before. But if you are able to get around the fact that this game is all what you would expect form a cutsie anime visual novel - on the surface level - you´re in for a real treat. Like seriously, this game is exceptional.

Don´t look up anything about the game or you´ll be spoilered in no time. Plus it´s free. Just

Its been awhile since i had so much fun in VN series.

Story : its about MC meet 4 grill and he decide to join his childhood friend club
Animation : even if the game is free, without a doubt the animation is nice UNTIL **** HAPPENS.

I know VN isn't a type of a game everyone can enjoy, but as a VN, this game could be 1 of the best.

Spoiler : the 4th wall in this series is pretty deep.

A masterpiece. A few hours of free to play, smoothly working Visual Novel gameplay, layered with dark humor and plot evidence throughout. One who takes this game seriously from start to finish will never forget this experience, as it's a work of literature only the Literature Club could've gifted us.

Maybe I shouldn’t give this game a 10/10. I mean, it’s a virtual novel-dating simulator. What about that warrants the praise of a masterpiece?

Well. That is not something I am willing to discuss in this review. I don’t even wanna say anything about this game. Just experience it for yourself (not really a review if you don’t talk about the game, I know, but please trust me on this one,

What I will say though, is that it’s free on steam and is one of the biggest surprises of the year for me. It’s characters, music, graphics, plot—you might be surprised at just how fantastic it all is.

This game is super great if you've played through other visual novels - it appears super typical at the outset, but the direction the game takes is unexpected and done super well.

Favorite Thing: It was a great first exposure to the visual novel genre. A nice combination of charming and weird.
Least Favorite Thing: How could you do that to Sayori? You monsters. Date Completed: 2017-10-21 Playtime: ~ 5h Enjoyment: 8/10 Recommendation: If you're into or just interested in the genre give it a go. You can't

If i tell you why you must play this game, this will be a spoiler. This game will make you look at the world in the form of "Before and After". No joke, just powerful experience. Just Monika.

I have found this game by accident, I was never into Visual Novel genre and not really a fan of anime. The surface of this game is everything I couldn't care about less. Yet, I gave it a try, mostly out of curiosity due to its disclaimers and the overwhelmingly positive comments. And man, I wasn't disappointed. It's been 3 days since I finished this and I still can't stop thinking aboutI have found this game by accident, I was never into Visual Novel genre and not really a fan of anime. It makes you uncomfortable in ways you probably rarely felt. Masterpiece. Messed up to its very core. Expand

If you are used to the anime/hentai cringe ® or/and visual novels, the other unpredictable aspect of this game will probably blow your mind. Otherwise, the end will not make it up for it. This game is the surprise game of 2017 to me. I'm a big fan of VNs, but its hard to find ones I actually like. The music, atmosphere, and characters set the scene for an unnerving and disturbing experience. You don't have to be a weeabo to play this game, trust me.

Doki Doki Literature Club is a mind boggling and hard hitting horror game that takes tried and tested formulas of both visual novels and dating sims and turns them on their heads. The themes and story pack a punch, and stayed with me long after I had finished playing. It may require commitment from some to get through but the reward for those who stick it is more than worth it

A horror game disguised as a dating sim. First couple of hours are boring and written poorly to the degree of being hard to digest for me, then things get better, but the story is still shallow and the substance plays second fiddle to the form. [01/2018, p.61]

Doki Doki Literature Club is a visual novella that masterfully manages to creep up on you, shatter the 4th wall with a sledgehammer and land it on your unsuspecting face.
