Big step backwards for RPG. I bought the game off good reviews, wonder if there is a way to pull out from the reviews anyone who invested in the kickstarter and is not objective, this is NOT a 9.1 game. First, the quest design and feedback is absolute crap, can't put it any other way. So many times you finish one thing and have absolutely no clue what to do next, and the next step when you find what it is is just not that logical. Also, on one hand they tell you to go off the beaten path, but going off the beaten path goofs up the quest progression. Also, very limited feedback on how to proceed with any one quest, is massively frustrating. I am pretty thorough in cleaning out an area, not missing anything, but I have never spent so much time in online forums figuring out how to do simple quests. The leaps in logic you need to make even limited progress at so many points in the game is really not fun. I enjoy a good clever challenge, this was at many times just massively time consuming and frustrating. I hung in there through Act 1, am now throwing in the towel. It's great that someone created a game from kickstarter money, but going forward I will wait to pay $60 for games produced by companies who put together a product that is not full of bugs. I'm not buying the "old school RPG" tag as a blanket hall pass for its many shortfalls. Dragon Age 2 and Elder Scrolls were true 9s this game is no 9, not even close. Expand

I would say that all the 10/10 reviews out there are Kickstarter backers who want to help promote the game. The game is decent but no 10/10. If you liked Baldur's Gate, then you will probably enjoy this game too.

The elemental area of effect mechanic adds a lot of fun to the game. Cover an area with flammable poison ooze and then set it on fire to create an explosion. Then use a hostile teleport spell to throw enemies into the conflagration for good measure. Make sure you pick up a good spread of elemental abilities. Not only is it fun, the game assumes you have them at certain points.

The Rock, Paper, Scissors method of winning arguments with NPCs is stupid. It detracts from immersion in a big way. At one point I accused someone of doing something(no spoilers!). When I presented evidence to back up my case, we played Rock, Paper, Scissors to decide the argument. I'm not kidding or exaggerating, you actually do this several times in the game. If they wanted to randomize success when using Intimidate, Reason or Charm a hidden dice roll would have been less annoying.

The writing and dialog are pretty good, when the game has a chance to "warm-up". It is a little iffy early on; they dump a lot of weird useless story on you early in the game. At times your two main characters will have "discussions" where you role-play both sides. This is good if you want to role-play but silly if you just want to have an experience.

You will be frustrated by the interface, unless you are a sniper. There is no assistance to click on very small or moving objects. If your mouse is one pixel off, you don't select the monster/item. It is very frustrating when a monster shrugs so your attack command turns into a move.

Crafting exists but it is not explained very well. I haven't done any the whole game. You probably won't either.

All-in-all, this is not a bad game. Good for some nostalgia if you liked BG. Some bad design choices hold it back though. Worthwhile on a sale.

If you are the sort of player who prefers to strategize all day long and wants a combat heavy game, get impatient with roleplaying (reading lots of text), and would rather just get right into the fight, then this game is *very* sadly not for you. I say "very sadly" because the combat is amazing, I just personally don't have the patience for this kind of story (I prefer combat only but don't mind story if it's a good story, which for me this isn't imho).

So what we have here. Another childish fantasy, where everything is green. Stupid story written by a five-nephew of the main developers, dilaogy wrote to his younger sister. Absolutely no atmosphere, which drew players into the game, just another generic fantasy pun, this time enriched RPG elements.

Basically what the other ten reviewers said. Nice to have a game that makes you READ the quests to give clues where to go next. I've started to dislike having markers everywhere. Proper hardcore PC RPG unlike recent releases that were obviously made easier for the general console crowd. I have however knocked a point off for the poor inventory and slightly clumsy crafting.

I expected this game as new revelation, I backed it up on Kickstarter, I was avidly watching developer diaries. Today, I finished the game.

    My thoughts?

First off, this game is something me and a lot of old school players were waiting for. We´ve finished Baldurs Gate many times, and we´re starved to death. No suprise we are ready to overlook caveats, and focus only whats good.

    We praise:

    1) Combat: it is complex, fun, turn-based. Working with elements and combining them is refreshing technique and is very well implemented. It is great fun and the main highlight of the game. But - continuous turn-based/realtime system in Baldurs Gate IS FAR SUPERIOR.

    2) Graphics, atmosphere. This depends on your taste, but the game is meticulously crafted, there is no deny. But, why do have to male protagonists look like STEROID BUFFED ANIMALS? They are literally looking like Arnold Schwarzenegger in his best years, even fragile wizards types! But, you can design your underwear. This game can be weird. Some call it humour, not me. The progression of your character´s visuals doesn´t work also. Remember how in BG you were looking like truly menacing wizard, after you´ve finally found that great robe? There is nothing like that in here, you look insignificant at the end same way as you were at the start (this applies mainly for wizards). A robe is robe, it has one look and that´s it.

    3) Music. Again, your taste. For me, its nowhere near Baldurs Gate 1 brilliance, but good enough to not be distractive.

    Blunders we overlook:

    1) Story: nothing to write home about. It is uninteresting at the start, it gets somewhat intriguing in the middle, only to finally become big letdown in the finale. Bottom line: if you want to make Baldurs Gate successor, you don´t have to make 2 of 4 protagonists ex-demigods. It´s worn idea of long gone novelty. As if this wasn´t enough, one of the companions just happens to be ex-king. Do writers thing that great story can come only through gods and kings? Come on.

    2) Useless features:
    - crafting is absolutely useless, it only makes your inventory clutter in epic way. Finding out what ingredients you need to combine is quite tiresome. You need to find books, get through blocks of irrelevant texts to realize you need to mix mushroom with stick to get something. It is so cumbersome that after I tried to make few things, I ditched it forever. It just is not worth the trouble. You find tons of items on the way, which are the same meh quality as the one you make, so why bother.

    - blacksmithing: see above, apart from making more junk, you must repair your weapons and armor. Is it fun? No. Is it tedious and superfluous? Yes.

    - lockpicking: this buffles me the most - lockpicking in Baldurs Gate was blast, you´ve found dozens of mysterious chest with great loot, you could burglar random people´s houses, so it was VERY WORTHWILE feature. Here? It is ABSOLUTELY useless, not even kidding. Every chest in this game can be opened with a key lying around. There are like 4 chests in THE WHOLE game, which actually require lockpicking.

    3) Loot
This game has really bad loot system, even worse than vanilla Diablo 3. The items are randomly generated, very often giving you heavy armor with intelligence bonus, wizards staff with strength bonus etc. It is annonying to kill bad ass boss only to be rewarded with this junk. Very often you will find yourself playing with lvl 15 characters, which wear 5 lvl items, because nothing better dropped for the last 15 hours of gameplay.

    4) Inventory and management
Do you remember how many inventory slots did we have in Baldurs Gate? 20? At max. It was great. You weren´t feeling like travelling gipsy wagon, you carried items that mattered. Here, you´ve got LIMITLESS inventory space, and believe me, there are moments when it almost feels it is not enough. So, be prepared to spare much of your time tidying up your inventory, rearranging hundreds of items which you won´t ever use. It really is not right when you feel like a clerk while playing a game.

    5) Puzzles
Most of the puzzles are unfair and uninspired. Either it is about pixel hunting small switches, or trying to follow instruction of some obscure guide you´ve found hours ago, granted that if you´ve kept it at the first place. You WILL be searching on the internet A LOT to get through. The teleport pyramid technique, although interesting at first, grows VERY INCONSISTENT later. In some situations it work, in some it doesn´t, you never know when, so you just try it all the time.....

    6) Dialogues and co-op
Co-op dialogues turns to save/load fest thanks to the stats you get if you answer "correctly". You will find yourself answering not how YOU would like to answer, but the way so your character gets some special bonus. Depending on what you choose, you become e.g. Romantic, which will get you +1 charisma, or Pragmatic +1 to intelligence, etc. Your decision are commanded by which class you play, not by your conscience.

If not, but sort of interested, maybe wait for a lower price and give it a try. It's a slow pace game, but if you are ok with this, then you might find happiness.

    PROS:
    - Combat system is really awesome, Environmental and elementals interactions make the bread and butter, and it's a really good butter :)
-Music is cool, while a bit irregular in quality (some are truely epic while others remain unoticed.
-Graphics are ok, not particulary shining, but clear and somewhat nice.
-Lot of ways to "break the game" like teleporting things, using Telekinesis nicely, and other various stuff.
-I really enjoyed the crafting system, but i'd suggest to use some community guides to really use it in an effective way, because, well it is...

    CONS:-
... kinda dark considering that recipes are randomly dispatched and if you dont find some key recipes, you'll miss a lot of things to plainly benefit from your skillpoints used in Crafting and Blacksmithing (note that blacksmithing is way way less usefull than crafting). Other bad point: there is a TON of components leading to...
-an awfull inventory management. Really, this is the worst aspect of the game: tedious, takes a lot of time, and confusing. (where the hell is my quest item, i know it is on this character, but i cant find it). Sometimes you managed to clean up the mess in your inventory and bags, but 45 min later, it's in the same state than before.
-translation: i dont know for every language, but in mine, it's just like of Google trad did all the job. And it is a crap job, really. word-to-word translation resulting in pure non-sense, the worst being for the humour: in english some conversations are really fun, but simply translated but NOT adapted, this result in ... nothing.

Ok, this is the end of my 1st review ever, i hope my english is correct enough, i tried to give an accurate rating (i noticed that most user's review are 10 or 0, wich is a bit ridiculous), and i also hope reader will find it usefull. Have a nice time with this game.

My only minor complaint is that the UI seems a bit clunky sometimes. I really do not care for the 'chain' system that controls your party. Sometimes the inventory menus, etc are hard to navigate. I'm just being picky though.

Bottom Line: If you enjoyed the Baldur's Gate type of games, this is what you've been waiting 10+ years for. If you perhaps missed the boat on the older games but enjoy RPG style games, you will probably love this. I hope the developers sell a million copies and make a ton of money on this so we can get more games like this in the future!

It's actually one of the most linear rpg's I've played.
The real issue is that the game more or less forces you to play the game in THE way developpers thought. If you don't, bad things happen:
Bad thing 1: Bugs. You suddenly get a quest about events you never noticed, or get additional entries to your main quest about items you never found.
Bad thing 2: You can't go where you want. Either you are too low level to survive, or the game just plain prevents you (near the endgame) unless you go back and change your choices in order to get some McGuffin.

It's sad, because I like the humor, some 'side' quests are funny (but you need the xp at least early on, so do them - later you don't know it but you need stuff there so go for it too).

    There are other issues:
You need a good eyesight, and your characters need good perception too, if you are to find the 4-pixel wide buttons somewhere on some walls. Unless you know where they are, you will spend hours watching at wall textures near the eye-level of your characters in close zoom, at different angles, with a poor camera.
Companions are a joke. You have a choice of 2 with background or some others you can recruit much later with no incentive as they start level 1 - even if you can get them up to a decent level fast.
Meaningless character dialogues. Most of them. Even when you manage to avoid saying something, the NPCs will still consider you said it. Long after you solved Mystery A, the corresponding dialogue options still show up.
Unfinishable quests still show in your journal. Hey, that guy mentioned in the journal is dead, No use cluttering it with a quest I cannot finish. (Since I can't resurrect NPCs when they are not in my party despite the ubiquitous scrolls of resurrection)
The end game is a chore. Really. Stop playing once you've reached the last dungeon (you should know it). Everything afterwards is just painful/boring. The last battle took me an hour and a half of just lowering the hit points of that damn monster who wasn't even that threatening but oh, my, 1h30 of repeating the same winning moves over and over again? That's not fun in any way.

Crafting can be a bit daunting, with nothing to guide you apart from recipe's you find as loot, but most crafting is intuitive (using a forge to smelt ore, a whetstone to improve weapons, ovens to cook in and potion bottles to mix brews) and you get a sense of achievement creating stuff.
You are also given a lot of freedom roaming around the game world which can get you into some trouble is your not paying attention.
Some bugs and save game corruptions did detract from my overall impression of the game and the NPC dialog can get annoying at times which is why this game rates an 8 and not a 9 with me.
Overall a great RPG well worth the asking price.

Sadly, I must say that I dislike playing it as the atmosphere is fairly bland and really only has an overwhelming amount of random NPC chatter when in town and when out of town is quiet to a near annoying degree.

It is even worse by the fact that conversations with NPCs (In menus) are not voiced and make the dialogue between your party and them extremely tedious at times and with a fairly non-existent sense of direction you can easily wander around for ages.

One of my largest complaints would be the lack of UI scaling for larger monitors, it may be a specific problem for 4K but the issue stands, as the minimap is ridiculously small and is near worthless.

However, none of this can honestly remove from how fun and seemless the combat is and how fun it is.

But it's a game that shouldn't be compared to them, because it has a personality of its own.

    Major pros:

+ Combat is deep, tactical, and highly addictive. While not quite balanced as the first 1/3 is much harder than the last 1/3, if nothing else there's a definite sense of progression.
+ The story and setting don't have the heart of Bioware's best, but there's enough whimsy and intrigue to keep you engaged.
+ Multiple ways to conclude quests.

    Cons:

    - The UI lacks polish. Endless floating windows that get in the way of each other, limited camera rotation makes finding the right perspective difficult sometimes, tiny buttons. Functional, but could be much better.
    - Obtuse puzzles. I get that the developer didn't want to hand hold players, but pixel searching for buttons, vague clues you may not even find if you approach quests out of order, just cause grief.
    - Cheap instadeath moments. For example, there's a boss whose corpse will kill your character instantly if you step on him. But there is no warning that will happen. Resurrect scrolls are common enough, but it still annoys me.

Besides certain puzzles which I genuinely disliked, the cons are more nitpicking than anything else. Overall, this is a must play for any fan of the great isometric RPGs of the past.

Most of the previous reviews do this game more justice than I ever could write. I haven't enjoyed a game this much since the first Witcher game was released.

There are complaints about there being too much text to read, too many useless objects that you can interact with, and how there is no level scaling which can result in players easily getting slaughtered when exploring off the beaten path.

I've been playing RPGs since the first Ultima game, and then subsequently the AD&D Gold Box series. Quest markers, level scaling, glowing indicators... all this hand-holding was never needed back in the day and it still isn't to hardcore fans. The popularity of console gaming has really impacted PC gaming in negative ways. Now that most software developers make games for multiple platforms, there has been an unfortunate decrease in how complex PC RPGs used to be. I can remember drawing my own maps on graph paper and needing to actually write down clues and locations for quests - and I loved it.

Sure Divinity: Original Sin can feel linear compared to bigger open world games, but I get the impression when playing it that the game developers respect me and are not trying to insult my intelligence. There are no bright yellow exclamation marks over a character that I need to speak with. There are no arrows pointing in any direction to show me the way. And if you have to read through volumes of text to find a quest, be appreciative that the writing quality is stellar and that it's all about world-building.

Complaining that there's too much fluff is strange because it's a role-playing game. Story, atmosphere, and background setting is partly what makes the experience. And for anyone saying that the combat is too hard just needs to adjust their tactics or create new characters. It's challenging for sure and that's a good thing. Overall this game has been a refreshing new release that carries the spirit of old-school RPG gaming at its core.

No is not as good as Baldur's Gate/Planescape Torment, but as a single player game is better than NWN 1/2.
It doesn't give you the "complete freedom" that some Bethesda games give you (Elder scroll saga), but you have a party and turn-based combat (a great one), which have always been a love of mine.

Is it worth a 10? For me yes 'cause I was starting to wonder if I would have been able to feel the joy of playing a CRPG again.

Well it didnt take long before the game started to piss me off. Its like the game was playtested by nothing else than Ultra-Hardcore Oldschool RPG fans or by people who made the game and knows the ins and outs of every single thing in the game.

You Almost at the start of the game arrive at a Major city which is a major mistake of a RPG.... you should never start at a major city and confuse the player who is already confused by learning all the new game systems of a game they just started playing. Only RPG who has pulled this off is BG2 but that game was so much alike BG1 they got away with it.

Then you want to go on your first quest, NOPE! You get like 10 quests at the city and MAYBE you can complete two of them because the rest if way too high level for you. The game never tells you the quests are out of your reach. Im all for the game not holding your hand but if they playtested their game a little more they would figure out its not a good play experience to get access to content you have no chance in completing. Some quests begins as a quest made for low levels, only with the boss fight being against a level 7 boss mob...The game howeever never bothered to tell you that you aint got no business with 90% of the quets the game gives you AT THE BEGINNING OF THE GAME. Baldurs Gate never had this problem, there was challenging fights there yes, but nowhere like this **** where you get insta killed in 1 hit by random mobs. Why the **** give me quests that i got almost zero chance in completing?

They Ofcourse you want to go level up somewhere. BUT THERE ARENT ENOUGH TO DO TO LEVEL UP! First Quest area is mobs of level 3-5.. i was level 2 when i got there... sure with lots of blood sweat and tears i cleared it... now im level 4, almost level 5. The Next area is level 5-7 monsters. FIghts can often be your 4 party members vs 8 enemy mobs. When you are lower level than the monsters AND outnumbered the game just starting to be torture on your ****ing brain. There is not enough quests and monsters to level up unless you refuse to give up before you have found every ****ing little xp hidden away.

WAY TO GO TO **** UP A GAME. Thank god for pillars of eternity.

I give this game 5 Just because i love old school RPGs but this game is a huge fail.

I wanted to love this game so much, sadly i can't. The worst about it, is Larian actually made a wonderful job and D:OS could have been a great game but all the little things i dont like in this game are a deal breaker for me.

So what do i not like in this game :

    1. It's extremly linear, despite the (kind of) open world. Sure there are a few side quests, some of them hidden, some of them really cool, but apart from those, you have to stay on the intended path or the game will punish you. Brutally. As soon as you try fighting ennemies more than one level higher than you, you get your sorry ass handed to you.

    2. Even the way you should fight have been laid out for you : always use the environemental stuff around or die (or turn the game to easy mode). What i love about CRPGs is to create original parties, with non conventionnal ways to fight. You can't really do that in D:OS, especially given how dull the spells are (oh look i can give you a ONE strenght bonus ! for a whole TWO rounds ! aint THAT sexy ?!)

    3. Most of the time, you're at a loss about what to do. I'm not asking for quest markers, but i'm pretty sure the game could have made what you're supposed to do a bit more intuitive. And dont even get me started about crafting, it's the worst crafting system i've ever laid my eyes on.

    4. The game is still pretty bugged as of now. Larian seems to be doing a fine job of correcting this, so this might not be an issue for a long.

    5. Only 2 companions ? Are you kidding me ? Yes i know you can recruit some generic companions later in the game, but that seemed bugged in my game, they did not level up the level of my main characters when i hired them. Fighting level 10 mobs with lv1 companions seemed like a bad idea so i passed.

    6. Did i mention how dull the spells are ? That and the fact that you have no idea why a spell worked or didnt. For instance my warrior has a 1h weapon that has a 30% chance of crippling target. After around 2 hours of using it, i have yet to see it work. Just Once.

All in all, i'm not regretting having bought this game, i had a pretty good time playing it. But to me it just can't compare with the genre classics such as BG2 or NWN.

This game is indeed made for hardcore players. It has the complexity of quest just like fallout 2, with a lot of stuff hinting the background stories of various side quests. Its combat can be tough or even brutal if you can't master the key tactics of battle system.

So, casual gamers, please stay out of our way. Just play Skyrim or Call of Duty, these games are made for you.

I want to give this a 10 so bad. Fun game, with an old school turn based RPG feel and countless character build combinations to explore. The build creativity alone makes this addictive for alt-aholics. The personality buffs are a nice touch too. the quests are plentyful but not always too well done. It is just so easy to overlook some key item ( sometimes literally key ) to proceed and get stuck - there are also situations when the game progression gets bugged ( like attacking an enemy before they had their say can lead to a cull-de-sac eventually )

the dual character system is a nice novelty that does not so quickly gets old - however the character "arguing system (rock-paper-scissors)" .. well, i do not like it - like at all.

the game does come with an editor for plenty of new content, truly EXCELLENT combat synergy systems and a huge amount of items to hoard.

what i did find a bit odd was that the world, despite being full of "stuff" sometimes felt a bit sterile - but i cannot pin down why i had that feeling - the NPCs while not too mobile, are not lazier than NPCs in skyrim or similar - so maybe it is just the top-down-perspective.

at its core the game does so many things right that all the nitpicks are but meaningless. - a clear 9/10 from me - a game and game concept to build on for sure - and i just love to see such a great example of a top down RPG again.

oh - and i found the game really hard - and shamefully had to pick "easy" to get my chars rolling for the first hour or so... - so i think it is a tough nut, even for pros.

On the flip side, I feel that where this game truly shines is in it's cooperative play. My boyfriend and I picked this game up on the Steam Sale and we haven't been disappointed (except for maybe when I feel like killing random NPCs and he gets pissed at me).

Yawn.

The question design is pretty bad. In Fallout, you'll encounter a cave full of scorpions that have been causing problems for the nearby town. You can choose to simply go in and kill all the scorpions, of course, but you can also choose to blow up the cave with dynamite if you have the right skills to detect the ideal weak point in the cave wall to place dynamite. There are constant skill checks in dialogue and in the world, you really feel like the character you created is YOUR character. In Divinity Original Sin, that is not the case. The scarce skill checks are all related to one skill: charisma. Worse yet, even if you have very low (or possibly non-existent) charisma skill, you can win anyway via the tedious Rock Paper Scissors minigame. All this might be acceptable if the quests themselves were interesting, but they never are; go here, kill that, retrieve this, return. Maybe you'll be 'lucky' enough to spend time searching for a small hidden switch behind some barrels or something as you encounter the ever familiar traps such as lava that will kill you instantly if you walk on it, or ice which will trip your characters up for a good 5 seconds which is just amazing fun let me assure you. The developers expect you to clear the ice with fire area of effect spells, so I oblige and sit through the insanely long animations and cooldown times over and over again to clear a path to my goal.

Despite being 'open world' it's really very linear with a clear path to follow once you get past the initial city area.

The item system is awful. I have yet to find a good staff and I'm nearly done with the game. Oh, scratch that - I did find one among the piles and piles of one handed swords I found a staff after killing a certain boss. Finally, I thought. Too bad that staff needs to be destroyed for story purposes, so despite being a great staff with good stat points and granting you a spell ability, it will quickly need to be destroyed with no replacement offered. Brilliant. Crafting is abysmal, unclear and always provides terrible items that aren't worth using. Perhaps I needed a very high crafting skill to make it worthwhile?

The one saving grace of the game is the combat, which is above average to be sure but nothing great. The amount of times my characters walked to a certain location instead of attacking due to the ridiculously finicky and inaccurate cursor is beyond count. The spell animations are far too long. The balance is off, with pyrokinetic spells being by far the worst -- I came across a huge amount of enemies where fire spells were not only ineffective but HEALED the enemy. Lightning spells meanwhile were pretty much always great, with only 1 or 2 enemies resisting it. The secondary effect is also clearly superior - would you rather deal a bit of damage, or prevent your enemy from doing anything at all for several turns?

Overall, I have enjoyed this game despite how critical I've been. A mediocre CRPG beats a good shooter any day of the week for me. And it's a hell of a lot better than "RPGs" like Skyrim, that's for damn sure.

But that's the level the plot's on. Summer action blockbuster level.

Combat - Mediocre, with some impressive elements. People have compared the combat to X-COM, and I have a one-word piece of advice. Don't. X-COM is a masterpiece of tactical squad-based combat, quite possibly the best made by anyone, to date (and I used to like Breach and the original X-Com) and this... well, this isn't. It's not horrible, but it's not nearly as polished as a game where tactical combat *is* basically the whole game. That's just foolishness.

Gameplay - This is where it takes a bit of a bath. Maybe once there are mods to deal with the finite random loot issue, or the inventory management hell which (despite the squares in inventory) is all too reminiscent of why I started to hate the Ultimas... but for now, gameplay is full of useless timesinks such as repair hammers and jumbled inventory with appallingly few sorting options. I know many will excuse this by claiming the modding community will (or already has) start to address these issues, but the fact is that only a piss-poor release obligates the modding community to incorporate functionality the devs should have built in the first place. I felt the same about Skyrim's UI out of the box too, so don't feel I'm being unfair on D:OS.

Vision - This is probably the single best thing about the game; while they didn't necessarily achieve all they set out to achieve, the dev team for D:OS has done some interesting work in the way their elemental interactions go together, and has done a reasonable job of fleshing out certain skills. That said, there are balance issues with the interactions (wet/stun, wet/freeze and leech/bloodletting as examples) which have necessitated patches (since release) to adjust and will, I'm sure, require more. Also, I can't be the only person who realises that a path from electrified puddle to foot to ground doesn't pass through anything which would cause a stunning effect. Other abilities could stand some work too - other than Pet Pal, there's very little in-context incentive to invest in anything but combat-centric abilities. Certainly there's not much point in being charismatic when one can save-scum until rock-scissors-spacebar works.

With the right mods to improve its faults and the right patches to adjust balance through means other than immunities (for example, let a boss be frozen but give him/her an explosive ability to break out and damage nearby characters when it happens), I could see this game achieving about a 6 or 7 rating; at present, as it is, and based on its quality at release, the 4 stands.

One final note... old-school, this game is not. Might and Magic 1-3, the SSI gold boxes, Bard's Tale, Wizardry 1-5 and Ultima 1-6 are old-school. This is some johnny-come-lately stuff. If it didn't come on a set of 360K-1.44Mb floppies, it's not old-school. Period.

Once you become accustomed to the slower pace of the game, it really sucks you in. I can't remember the last time I played a game for 6 hours straight only to look at the clock and be shocked at how much time had elapsed, but Divinity is one of those games.

Unfortunately though, the user interface is clunky, unintuitive, and awkward which really reduces your enjoyment of the game. It is unpolished and feels like it was thrown together without much thought or testing. I don't need to have comparison windows popping up when I mouse-over an item I want to pick up! Why in the hells can't I select the character I want to lead by simply clicking on them!? The portrait chain idea is cute but after the first few times of doing that to separate and rejoin the group, you will long for the UI in BG, where you simply clicked on the character you want to control, and click-dragged the cursor in a box over the whole party to select them all. I could go on, but the UI is certainly my largest complaint about the game.

Asides from that, the camera is obscured by a variety of objects which is slightly irksome, but not enough to bring the score down. Some have complained about the speed of travel, but I never saw it as an issue- there are waygates for instant travel, and you don't move THAT slowly.

It is frustrating how this game has SO MUCH potential, yet falls short in areas that probably could have been remedied had the development team opted to give themselves more time. As a Kickstarter funded game, I am pleasantly surprised at just much they did get right, and how fun the core of the game is. All in all I would recommend the game to any lover of RPG's, but with a small caveat attached.

Having been excited about this title for some time before it's official release, I was only too happy to pay full price the moment it became available on Steam.

Unfortunately, and with the benefit of hindsight, this purchase proved to be a poor choice.

After 60+ hours, the game itself has been mostly entertaining. Fans of classic RPGs such as Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights and Arcanum will feel right at home, and although Divinity: Original Sin doesn't bring a great deal of innovation to the table, there is a vast amount of well conceived content to explore and enjoy.

The technical problems I have experienced with this game however, have been overwhelming.

Crashes on both saving and loading (roughly 1 in 4) have made progress immensely tedious, and only dogged persistence has allowed me to progress as far as I have. In truth, the majority of the 60+ game hours I mentioned earlier have been spent re-playing the same areas over, and over, and over again.

A short read through Steam forum 'sticky' threads will confirm that I am by no means alone with this problem either.

Much to the credit of the developers, they have been immensely proactive in releasing patches to try and correct both this problem, and other less crippling issues. At the time of writing however, they have not yet found a solution, and each time a new patch is released I start my journey from scratch all over again.

If you're seriously considering buying this game, don't be taken in by the 'old school' posturing of a small, but very vocal group of self-appointed fanboys. As the number of players increases to include those with far less biased views, so too do the number of players struggling to get this game to work as intended.

In short? The developer has released what is effectively a beta, yet is still charging top dollar for the privilege.

Put bluntly, I didn't fork out the full release price to be a beta tester.

If you are interested in this game, but not quite sure if this will fit your style, just watch some of the gameplay video's, either on youtube or twitch (AngryJoe and ForceStrategyGaming have been playing this game for some hours).

While there are some minor issues, like the bit chaotic inventory system, some difficulties in camera rotation, this certainly does not have any real impact on the gameplay or overall enjoyment (but I reckon this is personal). Especially since Larian is very busy resolving issues through regular patching. This is why I ranked the game with a 10 in stead of a 9.

Oh and have I mentioned the soundtrack is fantastic? Been playing it non-stop on the tubes!

Divinity really does bring back those nostalgic feelings of the days of Planescape which is quite amazing since "AAA devs" can't even come close any more, they've virtually all lost their mojo.

This is a fantastic game, it's well worth the price and not a single game this year has been better. If you're interested in CRPG's then listen to all of these positive reviews, the game really is that good!

Aside from a somewhat uninspired main story the game is really a standout above it's peers. Not since Dragon Age 1 and The Witcher 2 has RPG gaming been this good.

Divinity: Original Sin is a good game indeed but it won't go further as the groundbreaking title everyone is claiming it to be. The developers put a great deal of effort in making it look and play like the old school rpg titles and the game really shines when it comes to it's re-inventive gameplay, but sadly it is not strong enough to cover the cliché story and foolish dialogs.

The only thing that is a bit off about the actual game itself is the crafting system. There is no way to see what combinations are available to you without going into your journal to hunt them down, or just memorising them. But I will not bash a game due to being 'too realistic'. Instead, I will say that this is so far my favourite game of 2013-2014, including all other big titles like Watchdogs etc, purely because it gives you so many tactical options and combinations of spells. Get em wet -> freeze em or electrocute them for varying effects. Most of the issues in the game that I was complaining about (such as mobs being able to run through fire without getting burned like we do [every step that is]) were changed (or seemingly changed), so it is obvious that the developers are trying their best to make this game the best it possibly can be.

After all of this, the only major thing I can say needs some more work is the crafting system. Perhaps something along the lines of being able to see options for each item in your bag when you click on them, only if you have crafted those options before. But I don't know, it will be tricky, and I'm sure they will think of something. But this is why I like them, they are always thinking of ways to improve the game, even after release.

    *Deep turn-based tactical combat
    *Very deep character customization
*Each combat scenario has a hand-crafted environment specifically tailored for it
*Very impressive innovation with a deep elemental system

*Almost fully-interactive world: You can pickup almost any item or toss them around
    *The game is ridiculously immersive
*Lots of choices with how to finish certain quests

*A marvelous 2-player coop system that is a refreshing take on CRPGs (something I wish The Elder Scrolls would bring in the future)
*Dialogue with your party that further customizes your characters
*Many great yet intuitive puzzles to solve

    Cons:

*Certain aspects of the game are not well explained
*The game still has quite a bit bugs left in it, but are being patched by the developers

*There are balance issues with ability points eg. certain abilities/talents are a waste of points
*You might feel lost at times owing to the immense amount of content (the curse of too much to do)
*Certain dialogue hints are not written in your quest log and it is up to you to remember

*Certain zones are cut-off (too highly level mobs) due to forced combat. Therefore, you'll find yourself trying to finish everything before moving on
*The game can be merciless at times so make sure you save a lot to avoid re-doing a lot of stuff
*You can break side-quests if you accidentally (or on purpose) kill key NPCs

    In summary:

One of the best games I've played in recent years. I might have missed a couple of pros/cons here-and-there, but I have to recommend this game to any serious RPG fan - especially those who are in dire need of a proper Co-operative RPG.

Let me explain myself. Right from the start the mechanics of the game gives you that feeling that it's been designed to target the young MMORPG players more than the old timers (like myself) who played AD&D as a teenager. The way you use your skills and spells is typically derived from game systems like WoW. You do not have to sleep, learn spells, plan a strategy once in combat the way you do if you've played BG before for example. You only click (or press mice/keyboard hot keys) on what you want to do based on a turn-based combat system. For my part, this is not exactly my definition of what fun mean...
I've not played the game to the end, but the story doesn't seems to me really engaging. Right from the start, you got this feeling that you just don't care about what's happening. You just hang around in search of something to do and end up opening alot of "Level 1 broken vases..." more than wondering what's the best course of action to take.

Some others game mechanics are not really well done. Sneaking and pickpocketting are not really fun and i couldn't just believed it when i had to play "rock, paper, scisor" to win an argument with one of my party member... The level of immersiveness is just plain low.

Graphically, the game is not bad, but i can't say i was impressed by the look of it. Diablo 3 looks way better for a comparison.

Believe me! It's not the "best RPG of the last decade" like somes says, far from that.

Remember when Divine Divinity engrossed you so much with it's story and it's myriad of DIFFERENT locations that were never monotonous, even if you had to go back to search an area?
That is what Original Sin recaptures. I haven't fully looked into the entire scope of the co-op mode, but it is looking like a keeper, as they say. I could go into the tiny issues in-depth by nit-picking the game and going through it with no emotion and total logic, but doesn't every game have imperfections?
But I'm not going to do that. If a game recaptures what i mentioned at such a high level, do the imperfections really matter?

I'm more like a casual gamer and never played the Baldur's Gate series, and the game difficulty was a bit odd for me; XP is scarce and enemies are 1-2 level above my characters. In order to gain XP, I need to kill them, but even +1 level makes the fight very difficult. To be better, one needs more XP and non-battle quests are limited in an area so one has to rely on luck, buffs, pre-cast effects to get by; almost a catch 22 situation. There were a few battle annoyances, such as sometimes instead of attacking, the click got interpeted as a move command because the enemy's pixels were in some animation phase. Weapon durability is also a bit low for my taste. The third annoyance was the slippery ice, my main character managed to knock himself out over and over for like 5 minutes until I got tired and teleported away. Fortunately, quicksaves can be used, but autosaves are scarce and uneven; I lost nearly an hour worth of exploration once because I forgot to save manually. The voiceover is limited, but I felt a little bad skipping through most dialogue: somehow, reading 6-7 screens of text becomes boring after a while and one starts to look for keywords only. The story is generally interesting, but the journal is way less helpful than in other games. Usually it registers things that happened and provides little to no clue where to go next and what to do. No wonder the forums are full of the questions about them. The game and script run stable for most of the time, except some puzzles at the end which glitched out, but I was able to skip ahead. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Not often do I rate a game with 10 out of 10. Divinity Original Sin does not even deserve a 10/10 in a way as it has been released with some uncanny design choices (mostly in the UI), but still gets the highest score because every other game element is so powerful and the game mechanics offer unsurpassed replayability, depth and tactical choice.

Divinity:OS is best compared to classics like Baldur's Gate and older TES titles such as Morrowind. Going back to the old-school isometric perspective feels like a sensible, logical and nostalgic choice that shows its merit throughout the whole game. Not once would I consider playing this game in a 3rd or 1st person perspective. Every single piece of environment presents a potential piece of the puzzle to your quest solution which adds greatly to playtime and a sense of discovery and natural immersion.

Combat and character development rules are original, inventive and understandable, but unforgiving. Imagine destroying a boss made out of lava in one turn, only to walk past its corpse on the next and instantly killing yourself because that boss left a puddle of lava. A simple example of one of the many reasons you will be saving often, retrying encounters and redoing pieces of the game just to experience the myriad of possibilities every little sequence has to offer. Every minute of play is a learning experience, adding new knowledge and depth to the game.

In addition to the astounding brilliance in gameplay just from the original campaign, Divinity:OS also offers a complete construction kit and encourages a vibrant modding community. The first pieces of community-driven content are already underway and the patching and post-release support is fast, active and to-the-point. Larian keeps listening to the community and still strives to improve the game.

Indie gaming at its best. RPG has been re-invented and redesigned. Divinity:OS is the new template for the future of the isometric, true Role-Playing Game.

I have been playing this game since minute 0 with a friend and I have to say it's a blast. (Have around 60 hours now, around 30 are from the beta that I played very extensively)

What I like the most about this game is that it actually requires you to read once again. RPGs nowadays all have instructions as to where you have to go, they your targets on the (mini)map and tell you exactly what to do. D:OS doesn't do that, you have to think and explore a lot to advance in the game.

The combat makes a lot of fun. It's slow, but only because you need to plan ahead. What's gonna happen in X turns when I set that oil on fire? And that's another good thing, you can use your surroundings to your advantage. See that barrel of oil there? Try to hit it with fire. Barrel of water? Maybe by hitting it with electricity... (But this can also be used against you)

The environment is beautiful. Can't really say anything else about that.

The character creation feels somewhat lacking. It didn't really change since beta and that's a pity. Apart from hair and skin color, there aren't really any options to make your character unique.

Would recommend this game to anyone who's even remotely a fan of RPGs. If you can, play it with a friend. Although it doesn't really add anything to the story or anything, it's really fun when they blow you up because they didn't except spell X to create such a big explosion, or when they repetitively stun by casting lightning bolts when you're standing in water or blood.

Many of the things associated with oldskool are recreated, improved, even evolved. The attention to detail and the variety offered to the player more than make up for the few flaws, which are primarily interface frustrations, and could be patched. The tactical combat is the best of its type, the constant possibly of failure is back as the AI will use the landscape too and has access to a similar skillset as yours, which is itself more than satisfying to experiment with and learn, which you'll be encouraged to do, plus character customization actually encourages some roleplay choices both solo & coop.

This feels like the game we should've had 10 years ago, and should make Larian proud, and others drop to their knees and beg .... "how?".

Get it . Play it. If its not a future fondly remembered classic already, people will still be talking about it for sure.

I have no regrets about this purchase, even at only half-way through the game even though as the tank for our party I am constantly getting blown up, disintegrated, or even launched around the battlefield like a rocket from my friend who is a elemental wizard.

Solo or coop, if you enjoyed Baldur's gate, Dragon age, or any of the like games you will enjoy this.

It is definitely a fun game in co-op and a step in the right direction in a genre that has been very underwhelming for the last few years. But combat is really where this game shines, it is really fun with a friend and provides some good encounter design and neat challenge. Exploration was alright, I was expecting more but the scope is quite large for a 40$ game. Visuals were pretty good and varied. Soundtrack was alright but nothing to write home about.

I had good fun for about 60 hours, time will tell if I ever replay it. But as of now, I am more interested in Pillars of Eternity by Obsidian, as I expect it to be more story-driven and bring some of that Black Isle magic back.

I actually had high hopes since some people in everywhere talks positively about this game so I bought it and started playing it.

I am gonna group my review into categories in order to make it easy to read. first graphics, sounds, (voice , ambient music), gameplay, features ,technical side and my honest view.

the graphics isn't really great like it was promoted the characters have less polygons and when the game is zoomed to a character it's quite visible and body and face textures don't blend together well and it's quite visible in character creation menu, the settings show the game has ambient occlusion, SMAA like that graphical options but they ain't really visible in the game and there is motion blur in the game but it's totally useful because who would want motion blur for a strategy RPG game? we want to see the entire screen it shouldn't be blur when characters move like in first person shooter games and SMAA 1x does not do a good job because when it's set still I could see the jaggy lines around the characters so there has to be more options like SMAA 4X or 8X unless SMAA option is useless, the game has a lot of shiny effects but it breaks the realism of the game and beaches ain't realistic the area where the water and ground met doesn't blend together properly so water stays in a specific shape and there are no waves come from the sea.

sounds ain't really awesome either. there ain't any memorable or interesting soundtracks the menu music seems like a music plays in a funeral so boring and it makes me depress and cry I dunno why but it seems really bad for a game like this honestly and there ain't any good music during the gameplay and characters don't have voices and everything is like text based but occasionally our main characters babble something and it has voice and ambient music isn't great there isn't proper ambient music either in beaches there is an obvious ambient sound in real world but it doesn't appear in this game and in jungles ,in dungeons it's same you will feel like less realistic in every area, there are a lot of dialogs but most of dialogs don't have voices so you just read them like an article.

game seems have a lot of unnecessary features like picking unnecessary objects that you never use and picking items that you can catch fishes but actually you can't use them for catch fishes and there is no day and night cycle but developers promised to do it and there is no in game time and it always stays in the same time and you can't sail on boats, ships and can't even swim but there a lot of ships and ponds there and there is a large sea around the ground too but it's totally useless since there is no swimming, boating, sailing features and everything is set in the ground it makes me really disappointed. I really had high hopes but after playing the game everything was broken.I heard that developers claim it's hard to implement day and night cycle feature but it's not a proper excuse certain games have it so why this doesn't? I don't care about the game's price if it's worth I would buy no matter how much it's.

technical side is same like the game features. the game seems heavy and I can't even ALT+TAB to come to the desktop because then it takes a lot of minutes and the game seems consume both processor and the GPU heavily but it doesn't even look like a high end graphical game I feel like developers wasted their time on a lot of unnecessary things and game stutters a lot specially when there is going to be battle or approaching to a new area but luckily if you wander in the same area there is no stuttering and it takes 2 mints to load the game to the gaming world and it takes like 45 seconds to load into the character creation menu and texts are really small so it's hard to read from distance I have to come and close to the screen to read everything so reading the things is really hard and it makes me discourage and painful and there are a lot of lengthy dialogs and most of dialogs are not really necessary, and buttons for opening important menus like inventory, map are really small and not even properly visible. it takes a lot of times to search them, the game doesn't have a direction and you have to wonder everywhere to reach to the destination and no horses if there is a horse at least the traveling would be easy and the UI seems so messy like dialog UI is so big and it covers 1/4 of the screen during a dialog so basically you can't do many things in this game like people say it's like a big hype and the game is still in the beta level because there a lot of technical issues and developers seem fix them in each day but it's also annoying to update the game constantly.

In comparison to the greatest RPGs of all time, most notably Baldur's Gate 2, is doesn't offer quite the same amount of epicness in the story nor of character development and interaction. Which does not mean that there isn't plenty of it too, in fact the discussions between the main characters about their actions are one of the highlights in this game as well.

Looks beautiful. Plays excellent. Compelling story. Customisation of characters excellent. The in game music/soundtrack.. Just breathtaking. Yes, the game doesn't hold you hand from the outset, and the learning curve can be a little steep, but the feeling when you "discover" something for yourself (which the game gives you plenty of opportunity to do) is so worth it. The game dynamics are excellent - especially the "combinations" of spells and world objects. Combat is challenging but satisfying. This game makes you think, whereas other games are all about levelling up as quickly as possible and out powering the enemies. You can be a lower level but still win against enemies just by using terrain, objects and tactics. I could go on here, but if you are a fan of RPGs, this game is a MUST buy!

Finally - please ignore the Cheat Central review - the reviewer clearly has not played the game in recent form - more likely reporting on the alpha from months back. The game has undergone vast (and excellent) changes since then.

I jumped on the game right after the steam sale, I am pleased. On a 2 week vacation and this has been great, reminds me of BG. The only reason I give it a 9 is there are some quests that, if done out of order, screw things up a bit. The developer has recognized this today and will be issuing a patch.

Mostly very good turn-based combat. Breaks down late-game if you min/max at all, and can also break down early-game if you min/max competently, but if you avoid doing that then the combat is the best part of the game. Breaks down late-game if you min/max at all, and can also break down early-game if you min/max competently, but if you avoid doing that then the combat is the best part of the game. Environmental interactions: Best I've ever seen. Water+lightning, fire+poison, water+ice, water+fire, lightning+blood, etc.; the way they interact is very fun, and makes the battles interesting, though cluttered at times (especially as the smoke created by your fire magic obstructs line of sight to your targets).

Character customization is alright, but between 2-4 characters you can experience everything the game has to offer. Not very deep. Some talents are very fun, but most are extremely boring. Also no appearence customization.

RPG elements are honestly very poor. The dialogue is weak; quirky, but the humor falls flat a lot of the time. Never sure if I'm supposed to take what's happening seriously or as a joke; it's played straight and not over-the-top enough that it could go either way. In either case, I didn't find it especially funny or interesting, but that may be because of my personality.

Game reacts very poorly to player actions. For example: Two guards attack you at the start: You can murder them and nobody cares. You can't tell the guard captain about what happened. Another example: You can find physical evidence as to the identify and actions of the early-game antagonist is by exploring, but you can't tell anybody about what you know (despite even having his journal in hand) because that's not a part of the quest. Another example: After you complete the first zone, nobody cares. Guard captain still calls you an obnoxious **** who's only there to get in his way, people of the city act if it's still in danger, etc. Many more examples, too many to list.

Quest system is very bad. After the first zone, you get no clues about where to go. "Find the white witch"; white witch's cabin is protected by a force field. Remove it. How? Never explained, nobody knows. Hope you like exploring and have a character with high perception to detect the hidden main story quest items, or are happy with googling the solution. Not only example of this problem, but I'm trying to be succinct.

Puzzles: Very annoying. One puzzle, looks like you can throw your teleporting pyramid over a chasm, but you can't because there's an invisible wall there. Next room: the solution to the puzzle is to throw your teleporter pyramid across a chasm identical to the situation that was impossible just a few minutes ago. Many other examples of this: The rules of what's possible and what isn't change arbitrarily; are inconsistent. You cannot deduce the solution to a puzzle a lot of the time, it's just trial and failure, or pixelhunting. More frustrating than satisfying.

Companion NPCs are nonexistant. Only two in game, other are voiceless henchmen.

Other things... no day/night cycle. Camera is not very good. Can't zoom out far enough, gets stuck at strange zoom levels, foreground elements (like trees, big rocks, foliage, etc.) constantly obstruct vision. Dents in the terrain often impact camera strangely.

Interface is overall poor. Many important features hidden with tiny icons; not designed for big monitors and high resolutions. Did not even know about "delay turn" button until someone told me.

Skill bar: Too small. 10 skills, 3 bars, must be cycled through (with no hotkey) by clicking tiny arrows next to the bar. Very irritating; you will end up with 50+ skills on your mages, making you constantly click the tiny buttons or just opening your spellbook to cast them from there.

Combat complaint: You need to click models to target them. Models continue playing idle animations in combat. Sometimes they will be obstructed by aforementioned doodads. Situation: You mouse-over your target. You wait 2 seconds to be 100% sure you can click it. You click. The model played its idle animation, which (somehow...) made its center of mass no longer act as a point it could be selected at. Your character spends action points walking up to the enemy instead of attacking it. Extremely irritating.

Inventory management is cluttered; too much crap to pick up, which can't be ignore because some of the crap you pick up will be vital to have on-hand to solve puzzles - you can end up with 100 items in your inventory, often making it a nightmare to navigate until you can go through every single item and rule them out as important then get rid of them.

ARPG/Diablo-style, but with no "smart loot". You will probably not remember a single item in this game. You will not care. 99.9% of it is vendor trash. Vendors sell random loot, including random skill books required to learn skills, and only reset their inventory when your main character levels up. If unlucky, you may never get access to many of the skills in the game.

TLDR: Combat is very good, most other aspects are alright but need a lot of polish, RPG aspects are very poor.

For someone who is into gaming since the late 80s, but has passed up pretty much all Major RPGs, like Baldurs Gate, Arcania, Planescape Torment, etc... this game is not easy to get into. Bordering on impossible. Wanting to give the game a fair chance, plus loving Ego Draconis, I dove into the world of Original Sin. I took my time to learn the games interface and tried my best to understand the game mechanics. The Tutorial, sure enough, gave a good glimpse of things to come. Playing with the elements was a promising mechanic. And of course the Larian typical Humor was ever so present. And for that alone the game should be praised. The world looks beautiful and there is always stuff happening. No matter where you go. But going places... that is what broke the game for me. Like I wrote before, I passed on pretty much all the classic RPGs of their time. Thus, the complete lack of hand holding was it that broke the game for me. While it is fun to explore and to figure things out, the tiniest bit of help would have gone a long way. But let me explain:

    The "Maps":
Pretty big and counter intuitive. Sure, you could argue a map was all that people had in "that time" and GPS would be technological overkill, but since the maps are so damn contorted, at least some help with getting to different planes would be much appreciated. Exploration has its limits when you've been running around for over an hour, just to figure out how to get down a cliff just to see some more of the story.

    Quest Design:
Oh this is the 2nd big complaint I am having. I do like the fact that you have to get that head meat involved to solve things. But what I do have an issue with is illogical design. To solve a quest that has you do the laws work, you need to steal and do some breaking and entering. And even though you get caught, you get away with it. The quests are designed with flexibility in mind, but that part can not be avoided?

    Graphics:
This is more of a minor issue really. While the camera is a tad bit glitchy, the items that lay around are just too damn small. And constantly pressing ALT can really get on ones nerves. The world looks great and I would think that a slightly more "free to rotate" camera would have done the game some good.

    Story:
I am all but certain, the story will unfold and tell a interesting tale eventually. But due to the slow pacing, and completely generic start of the game I do not think I will ever get to enjoy it's full potential. Sure, some prefer it that way. Myself on the other hand, I need something to keep me interested from the first moment as game play alone is not doing it for me. Though I do give the developers credit for not having us kill rats in some cellar on the first quest or start in a cell with no memory...

    Rock Paper Scissor:
If you want to charm, reason or intimidate someone, you play a game of Rock Paper Scissor.
Let that sink in for a moment. Done? Good. While I do appreciate the intention to make dialogs interesting besides reading them. I have no idea who thought this was in fact a good decision.
To win the action you have to get a total of X Points. Each game gives your skill levels worth of points. Reach the needed amount and you win the action. So, the higher your skill level the faster you win the action. In my book you can try to reason all you want with that logic. In the end, its still dumb luck if you win or not. Bad design decision.

In conclusion, if you already are into these kind of RPGs, Divinity Original Sin, might be the one game you had been hoping for all those years. And I can basically see why. Though for those who are new to them, like me, it may be the first and last game of its sort for you. So choose carefully. I regret spending money on it.

It's a conscious decision on Larian's part to resurrect tried-and-true threads that run deep into the bones of the CRPG genre. It's a culmination of those efforts and an unapologetic celebration of battle-tested concepts backed by solid co-op. Most of all, it comes together as a grand adventure that hearkens back to sleepless nights buoyed by the roll of a die and a pad of grid paper shared between fellow dungeon crawlers.

Relatively small Larian Studios finally managed to deliver a really significant game. Original Sin is brimming with ideas on how to bring back old school RPG vibe and make it fit modern times. [Sept 2014, p.50]

As much as I loved the bulk of the game, by the end I was burning out, and burning out fast. Despite that, I'm glad that some studios are still willing to show an almost insane level of ambition in realizing the games they want to make without compromise, even if it does lead to a few dire moments here and there.
