Эталон настоящей RPG в наше время. Разработчики наконец получили заслуженную мировую известность и уже во всю силу дорабатывают не менее прекрасную Baldur's Gate 3, которая имеет все шансы обойти дивинити и стать настоящим шедевром. Im not sure who is responsible for the dumbing down of games, probably something along the lines of EA + Ubisoft + Bethesda + Activision, they truly have changed gaming forever. So you might say, but if you dont like AAA games, why don't you try indie games like Factorio and so on.....
In my opinion, indie games aren't any better than AAA games. - Yes, most popular indie games are polished and dont have any microtransactions but I still find their gameplay shallow, or just boring and dull. Factorio for example, is really tiring in my opinion and not fun, its more of a job that you dont get paid to do.

Anyway, Divinity: Original Sin 2, just buy the game its really good, feels like a game from the golden age with loads of inovation of course, Writing that is perfect for the game (Its not book level writing but no game has that), its very deep, AMAZING customization for classes, enemies don't level with you which is amazing.

9/10 - Amazing CRPG for all REAL RPG fans, if you like Skyrim don't play this because ive read countless threads on its forum coming from Skyrim fans saying that the game is too complex, this is for proper RPG fans only.

Like with so many other Indie/Kickstarter games there has been a lot of hype around this game, but had it been released by a large company, people would have been a lot more critical.

The graphics and music are the high points of this game. Mechanics are clunky though, the story not exactly captivating and there is a lot of primitive implementations that you would not see in a triple-A

I am sure a lot of people have enjoyed this game a lot, but I believe that most people will be disappointed. I personally found it pretty and utterly boring.

Игра супер, но добавление магической защиты делает мага в команде бесполезным, много глупых смехуёчков, а головоломки делают происходящее в игре нереалистичным

Everything in the game is broken, literally everything. Looks like an indie game made in spare time.

Right at the beginning, you encounter enemies that you can't avoid that are 10+ levels above you, they one-shot you over and over, YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING. The game is simply impossible to play without mods and cheats. Read forums, 90% of the answer are "I just used mod xyz to remove that broken feature". ARE YOU FU** KIDDING ME???

EVERY SINGLE ENEMY in the game will cast a fire spell that sets everything on fire and you're dead within a few turns. EVERY SINGLE ENEMY has tens of action points, while you have 3 or 4. Again, you're forced to use mods that increase your action points (they're so much required to play, that THEY ARE INCLUDED IN THE GAME BY DEFAULT!). It makes no sense.

    I REPEAT, DO NOT BUY.

Just has a third re-run, and I am 100% sure, this is the best game I have ever played. Dragon Age is my favorite gaming series, Origins the best out of three, but this...this is just on another level. The writing, fun, unexpected encounters that can happen from this game are endless. It is a true RPG.

Fantastic game with an incredible world and characters. It would be a 10/10 if not for the balance in combat being all over the place and many of the encounters being plain unfair (it also does that annoying XCOM thing where 95% chance to hit attacks miss a hell of a lot more than 5% of the times) and the final resolution with your party members is also a huge letdown, IMO.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 is this game and, most likely, the best cRPG game you can play up to date.
It is build on 3 foundations:
    - World creation: engaging story, memorable characters, fantastic voice acting.
    - Freedom of player's choice: freedom of choice when it comes to build, ability to change it through the game completely to let the player play whatever suits him and is fun for him.
    - Respecting player's creativity: almost no limitations, if something makes sense for you it will probably work in the game (for example, keeping NPC busy by talking with him on one character while the rest pickpockets him and steals his stuff, moving barrells filled with oil in order to prepare deadly traps, teleport yourself into normally unreachable places to gain advantage).

If I was to spend my life on an isolated island and could choose one game to be there with me, I would choose D:OS2.

The game is perfect in every single regard, but the most important part to me is the difficulty and the depth of the combat system. After having tried Tyranny, and having gotten ultra-bored even playing in the highest difficulty, I really felt saved with DOS2, by far the most unforgiving game I've ever played (and that's a major compliment, since it's not sadistic level like Super Meat Boy or Cuphead). So many games these days have amazing stories and ambiences, but such simplistic gameplay. I call it one thing: LAZINESS. Because it requires way more heart and talent and genius to develop a deep/complex gameplay, than to create pretty graphics and stories. (Not to mention it's not commercially feasable, giving these Gaming times dominated by filthy casuals). Props Larian (and Owlcat games) for truly saving RPGs. 11/10 Expand

There is SO MUCH TO DO, you could easily put 1000+ hours in this game and still discover new things, do a certain situation in another way, test different abilities combinations. It's absolutely worth paying full price for this Masterpiece, the amount of content here is equivalent of 3-5 games from this generation, and there is no filler, half-♥♥♥♥♥ mechanics, you'll be impressed by the amount of detail in the world.

What got me most jaw dropped is the scope of the game. You look at a town, like Driftwood, you have so much stuff to discover, characters to meet, so much interesting little secrets. In one moment I was being ambushed by dwarves after my undead character had a one timer with a lizard, and the next I'm talking to a chicken mother spirit to save her possessed chick. And then half way I noticed that Driftwood's area is just 10% of the whole map. The micro and macro aspect of the game are equally gigantic.

Games like these only come out every 10 years or so. So buy this game, sit back, grab something to drink with your friend, relax and enjoy the ride, calmly and together, because if it wasn't enough, you can play split screen or online co op this piece of art.

You try to say yourself - Oh that is a puzzle or hard try - No no no. I do 90% of quests and I don’t look through internet I and seemed to pass the Nameless Isle at level 17. Nooo you should be a soldier and do all minor quests and pass at Level 19 to be in relief. Good that I am a veteran player and beat monsters through the city. Ok then is it enough ? No you have assassins as you killed the advocate. There are undying cursed skeletons- killed in 45 minutes. There are spiders spreading death fog. Is this difficulty ? Is this fun ? Challenge ? No this is **** Please stop your Trolling style when Baldurs Gate 3. Items skills and scrolls and so on. Please try to make everything begin with magic missile or so. This game is not bad but really annoying. You need to be calm or a money earning streamer or a young gamer so you give it 9-10.
So linear gaming. In a map you have to follow a path. Otherwise there is a warning - enemies stronger than you. As I said instead of rewarding for 90% quest completion they punish you for not doing the 10% remaining so I killed people in houses to get quickly to Level 18 for example. You walk beside lava but character walks on it. You are 1 m from an enemy but path is interrupted or target invalid. You teleport to a place where you can jump down easily. Be ready Gooo Fighting in the middle of fire. Kill win and kill to encounter more absurd and harder. Kill easy and say I did it but after an area they put deathfog. If you stay high you are the winner. They say themselves an Open World game. They should say - Follow a Path Pain in the ass - Rpg Tactical ?! Oil Barrel RPG made by Trolls. Let me repeat I am at Arx. My dying hours for this linear absurdity.

Expand

If you are an old rpg gamer and enjoyed Baldurs Gate, this is your game.

Music is fantastic, the romance options amazing, the turn-based is challenging, the characters are interesting, the pace of the story is awesome and your decisions in the game matter.

I liked how you can decide if you are evil or not, and you can take deep moral decisions.

Of course, it is not out of problems, for example, It is not a game for beginners as the game is hard really hard if you play it on default difficult. On the other hand, the combat system is not well balanced and it is unfair when you reach high levels.

If Larian can balance Baldur's Gate 3 combat system and make a game like this, we may be before the best RPG in history. Finger crossed.

An absolutely amazing RPG with plenty of lovable characters from which to pick your party all with amazing backstory and relevant quests throughout the game. The combat system is fun and versatile given the use of elements and the fun effects they have when combined. One of the top RPGs out there.

First off, the difficulty level and damage NPCs is much higher than most games. I’m a long time soulsborne enthusiast and I definitely enjoy a challenge but I found DOI combat to be a painful experience to be avoided when possible. On the normal difficulty level I was constantly low on health potions and Rez scrolls. Every battle was against groups of foes with extremely powerful spells and attacks who’s AI positions them perfectly while you scramble to use your first couple moves to position well you’re already getting destroyed by devastating attacks. I’m not being hyperbolic when I say that every battle was barely one by the skin of my teeth and with my crew half dead and needing expensive Rez scrolls. I had to constantly use the quick save and load to get through party wipes and for any small mistake made. It’s extremely punishing and if you don’t excel at battle tactics and strategy you won’t progress. Period. Even in the easy setting the difficulty is still ridiculously hard and it takes all your effort to make it past minor groups of mobs. All of this is mind made me NOT want to explore for fear of getting wiped and losing my hard earned currency and items. It’s not fun. Now to the story. It’s a very stereotypical “you are the one” story. Entirely unoriginal and boring. The writing borderlines from eccentric and interesting to straight cringe. The characters are bland. There isn’t a single memorable character that I could tell you about. That I cared about. I add this game to the long list of over-hyped games that are overrated and have a small vocal minority that champions them every chance they get. It’s just OK. Not great by any means and most importantly it’s often not fun at all and a slog to get through. Expand

On the other hand every class should be viable but not in this game. Shield and sword looool it's waste of time. There is no tanking in this game. Give your shields to your mage which makes better choice lol. I'm not mentioning about decaying sh*te. Also there is not having alignments rolls neither. What kind of a role play game is this? I guess people don't have any idea how turn-based RPGs should be. Or many of these votes are faked.

I have many things to say this garbage game which is pretending as a RPG but I will hold short. It's total b**sh*te. It's ok at least I paid what this game was deserving after bought with a nice discount. Otherwise it's just a time waste gadget while I couldn't find any good RPG games in these quarantine days.

Note: Also I see mods allowed in this game and I got it. Modders always fix the game designers' mess rite! But somehow they prevent to get achievement if you use mods even they let you keep in the name of gift packs. lol, my brain is burning in the name of their stupidity ideology. Who cares, they got lot's of money from this scam game which named as Turn-pained RPG.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. We played the game as a 3 people co-op and it was really enjoyable in general.
Graphics, animations are very nice as well as skills, classes and combat.

What I didn't enjoy much was that playing co-op didn't really enrich the experience storywise, as marketed. It was not much different than playing, say Icewind Dale with 1 lead character and other players controlling NPCs.

Also the quest/journal system was a bit weird; quest updates in the journal consisted information that we didn't get from the dialogues for example. Also it felt like we were making small choices through the game slightly but it didn't seem to effect the ending very much.

Don't believe the hype. This game had potential but quickly falls into tropes of being simplified and boringly repetitive just so consoles can also play the game. This game has a few moments of enjoyment make no mistake. However rated it as high as BG2 and higher than other amazing games is simply just hot hair and puff. There is no real depth here.

Would normally be a game that I like, but for some reason it's completely boring to me:
The UI is kind of awful.

I feel like the player choice that people rant and rave about is still actually extremely superficial and introduces more tedium than excitement into a game that is at its core a turn based combat rpg. High magic- and you definitely have to play that way, you want a party of sword and shield bruiser knights? you can't. you just can't play the way you want, magic is way too powerful comparatively, why bash a guy with your sword when you can blow up the screen with some elemental attack. Random oil drums scattered around the map probably the biggest cliche in gaming. Gimmicks on top of gimmicks, Oh wow you can heat water... then electrocute the vapor... so sick bro. I want good combat at it's core not distractions. All of this is distracting you from the fact that the gearing and combat is actually just not very good. The exploration aspect is actually pretty good I have to admit. But that said, it's good for certain types of people that kind of find what they are looking for in the first place. Because at the end of the day, the dev did have to add all the choices, and no there is not infinite choices or ways to play, in a given situation you might be able to deal with it in 3, 4, MAYBE 5 ways? if you simplify all the ways you realize there is not as much choice as it seems while you wade through the slog of carrying around a bunch of junk, paperclips, string thinking "Oh it's a super rich RPG some random beggar guy with a beard might ask me for these stupid junk items and reward me" meanwhile you just waste your time with the "super rich" rpg managing a bunch of junk that ultimately doesn't add to the actual core of the game which is the combat which again isn't that good.

There are a few very minor gripes to be had, but most can be fixed on your own as the game is very mod-friendly, with the developers even adapting some of the most popular Steam Workshop contributions into official features, such as consumables to level up gear and a sprint feature. This feels like playing a tableop RPG more than any other game ever has. Such a detailed and deep world full of secrets to find, ancient dungeons to explore and baddies to strike down in super satisfying turn based combat.

    1. Combat - Somewhat akin to Fire Emblem. Enemies have magic and physical armor, which act as shields from certain attacks.
    2. Character Progression - Each time a character levels up, there is no change left unnoticed. If a player were to choose the lone wolf perk, they would get 2 points for every 1 point invested into a perk. That is just one example of the Risk-Reward progression.
    3. Story/Humor - By keeping it as spoiler free as possible, the game is about ascending to godhood. This game takes place after the first game, Original Sin 1. The old source king, Braccus Rex, has been defeated and the Magisters (bad guys) outlaw source. An invasion from an otherworldly force bewilders the Magisters into thinking source is bringing the evil. You play as a sourcerer, specifically a Godwoken, one who can ascend into godhood.

Divinity Original sin 2 is not only one of the greatest rpg's of all time but one of the greatest games of all time and i don't make that statement lightly . i have fallen so far in love with this game that iv restarted it a total of 5 times while still playing my main playthrough and didnt get bored.

Story: the main story has a lot to unpack and has a lot of variation to it depending on who is in your party , what type of character you play as , who you play as , your choices , etc etc. But it always has to do with your ascent to divinity and has lots of twists and turns through out and the ending even surprised me my first playthrough. each character has their own stakes in the main story as well as reasons for wanting to ascend, sabiele , loshe , ifan ,fane, the red prince and beast are all interesting characters and its sad you can only take 3 with you because they are all great characters .
    Story: 10/10

World building: the world is amazing , it feels so lived in , everything seems to be thought of and the world just makes sense ( even when it dosen't) the world sets its rules and abides by them , even to the fact that alot of the moves enemy's use the player can use. the politics and religion makes sense , hell even the final bosses motivations make sense , characters know one another and have personal relationships out side of your control and this helps make the world feel lived in as well as makes the characters feel like people , not to mention the MASSIVE amount of lore.
    World building: 10/10

Graphics: this game is not that old but none the less it looks great, a veil of realisam over the very fantasy esce style of the first DOS game and this game is much more violent and grotesque especialy with the voidwoken being starship trooper like insects at times. the partical affects and moves details all shine and pop and there is so much detail in just the smallest things. animations are fluent and landscapes are breathtakeing.
    Graphics: 9/10

Gameplay: the gameplay is tactical and has alot of strategy , i used a summoner, sword and sheild tank , wayfarer and rouge my first playthrough and by the end my wayfarer and rouge died almost instantly in battles so this lead me to re think my stratgy time and time again but i think my team comp is just a bit flawed. elements blend togeather and even things like curses and blessings play a factor in stratgy, putting poison on the ground then lighting it on fire causes an explosion then blessing the fire gives you holy fire . or curseing it gives you cursed fire witch reverses healing spells . and it goes like that , some fights i had to fight multiple times to get a stratagy right for that particular fight. outside of battles it is basicly a dateing simulator , skill and speach check conversational political thriller , i just threw a bunch of words togeather there but what i am reallytrying to say is there is alot to this game on and off the battle feild , crafting , bartering , skills everything has a purpose and iv only explored about half of them.
    Gameplay: 9.8/10

Sound design: the music and incredible extremely memorable and i even went back and listened to it on my own. voice acting was really good considering there is no scene its just dialoge boxes but because of how well somne of the voice acting was i could clearly imagin the emotion on characters faces. sound effects are also top notch
    Sound design: 9.5/10

    10+10+9+9.8+9.5=48.3

The DOS series has become one of my favorites of all time and this is a must play for RPG fans and fans of great story telling alike

The best RPG you'll ever play, bar none. i have a total of 500 hours play time on this game, and still play it to this day. Never had more fun with a single player game. There are so many things to see and do in this, and so many different ways to see and do them.

This is the definition of "RPG".

Aside from those admittedly poorly implemented mechanics, however, the game's combat engine has anything a fan of the genre could ask. It's turn-based and squad-based, while also boasting environmental interactivity, a proper positioning system, now with elevation mechanics, and an impressive array of spells, status effects, buffs, debuffs, and moves.

Even the reviled armor system brought something to the table by limiting the effectiveness of the CC spam and alpha strikes that dominated the first game, allowing for more challenging and varied encounters. That is why despite its flaws, D:OS 2's combat remains a rewarding experience for those who can look past some of its more inelegant design choices.

Even though combat is arguably the game's central aspect, it's worth highlighting some of the improvements made in other areas: a more varied and nuanced skill system, greater race variety, increased reactivity, and better art direction, writing and exploration. This last element is especially noteworthy, as the game boasts detailed maps for each Act packed with diverse loot, encounters, quests, and secrets, which, combined with the game's environmental interactivity and open-endlessness, allow for engaging expeditions full of surprises. This game is well worth your money and your time.

Also the written dialogues/narrations were presented in a clumsy fashion. My eyes were constantly searching to distinguish dialogue from information. Very tiring.

Before a dialogue starts, often some narration occurs first. This involves a lot of verbal padding. I.e. too much words are used which were entirely irrelevant. It drove me insane. Just get on with it.

Not to mention the manlet voice. I simply couldn't take it anymore. This voice is reused many times in DOS 2 and was also used in DOS, most notably as Headless Nick.

This was the only reason I uninstalled it. The senseless narrative padding, this guy with his unmanly voice and clumsy presentation of dialogue-options.

This game is MUCH better than the previous installment. I played and completed D:OS1 but after Cyseal it became very uneven. Some parts were very nice but I'd say about half of the mid- and endgame content in D:OS1 was garbage (and no the Enhanced Edition didn't fix it).

In D:OS2 everything is improved: - The story is more interesting. I don't want to spoil any details. Just consider
This game is MUCH better than the previous installment. I played and completed D:OS1 but after Cyseal it became very uneven. Some parts were very nice but I'd say about half of the mid- and endgame content in D:OS1 was garbage (and no the Enhanced Edition didn't fix it).

    In D:OS2 everything is improved:

    - The story is more interesting. I don't want to spoil any details. Just consider the best part of D:OS1 (solving the murder mystery) and imagine that the story in D:OS2 easily surpasses it and doesn't suffer constantly from immersion-breaking humor.

    - The addition of companion origins means that every story companion is much more than just a mercenary with some quirks and a personal quest. Companions are now involved in everything. Dialogues with many NPCs change dramatically depending on who from your party talks to them.

    - Quests have more than one solution making it easy to role-play what you want. Additionally, dialogues are well-written - you are never forced to choose between breaking character and saying something stupid.

    - The new physical/magical armor mechanic adds lots of depth to the combat system. D:OS1 was lacking in terms of depth because it was way too easy to cheese encounters by stacking initiative, summons and crowd control abilities. Now a 1-point investment in summoning is much less profitable and crowd control effects are blocked by armor until you break it. Combined with the round-robin initiative system, this means you generally can't stunlock all enemies before they get a chance to hit you.

    - There is a ton of abilities to choose from and no more stifling limits on how many of those you can learn. However, you still need to choose which ones you want to memorize which adds tactical depth. An ability can be extremely useful in one fight but meh/useless (or just too dangerous to use) in another fight.

    - The game is beautiful. D:OS1 looked too cartoony to my taste and having so few armor models (and even fewer decent ones) was very annoying. The only thing I found visually unappealing in D:OS2 was elven armor, but I quickly found a mod that replaced it with other armor models.

    - Most of voice acting is well-done. D:OS1 was full of intentionally distorted cringe-worthy voices and honestly earned criticism in that regard. Larian has learned the lesson.

Be warned that on the highest difficulty the early game can be pretty slow as the fights are tough. Especially if you don't cheese it by playing four overpowered physical fighters but instead make a party of all mages like a pro.

P.S I've read some negative reviews and... how to put it without offending anyone... the fact that people can be so dim makes me sad. You give a game less than 5/10 and you don't have anything relevant to say about why you didn't like it?

I started off playing by myself with two characters and was getting smashed. I had to repeat fights sometimes 4 times to win. Then I chose the lone wolf perk ( if you have one or two squadmates you get HUGE stat bonuses ) and then I was destroying everyone. It felt unfair, but it was better than losing so much.

Anyway, the combat's fluid and nice. But this game is more story-oriented if that's your thing. Wasn't really mine, but I appreciate how much detail is in this game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The story, lore, characters, and base design of the game is good...but then somebody made so many bad decisions with it that it pretty much ruins the entire game.

NPC (As an undead): AHH! An abomination! Die!!!
Same NPC (while hiding your undead nature): Ah, I knew you were undead all along, it's cool fam. Wanna chill?
Zaleskar: If you weren't absolute gutter-trash you wouldn't have to hide the fact that you're undead, you know.

PCs in combat, who supposedly have no idea that you are undead: "I don't know why I'm casting massive amounts of long range healing spells on you, it just feels right!"

    Undead: *Is obviously undead*
Undead in a hat: *Is also obviously undead, but no one seems to notice.*

DoSII Developers: We have 97 types of environments!!!
With enough fire, all of them become fire.

You: *spends three hours researching and tweaking the perfect main character*
Fane in the first five minutes of the game: I predate the gods, and you are lowly gutter trash.

Magisters: *treats you like a slave*
Red Prince: *treats you like a rejected slave*
Fane: *treats you like gutter trash*
Actual gods: "You are the chosen one!!!!"

You (To Zaleskar): Hello, my name is...
Ifan (interrupting): Wait, I have business with this bloke
You: *waves him ahead and tries again): Hello! My name i...
Sebille (interrupt): Wait, I have business with this bloke...
You: For the love of...Fine! Go ahead!

You (fighting with a sharp piece of metal tied to a stick): *kills an NPC in full magister armor dual-wielding axes literally glowing with arcane power*
Also you: They only thing they had of use was this piece of lint and a string I snagged from their sock.

You (surrounded by a dozen people or so): Yea...I'm alone.

You get a bless spell that tells you it can remove curses, but it can't remove the curses from cursed items.

There are also so many prerequisite feats and stats you have to get on your main character that just don't work right on your party members, like persuasion and Pet Pal, that your main character ends up gimped with a ton of social status unless you plan on simply murdering everything in your path.

The rules are incredibly unclear as to what heals undead and what doesn't. Necromancy and necromancy skills "heal" vitality and seem to work normally, but other skills that "heal vitality" do damage instead, with no clear indicator as to why.

Likewise, decaying says it causes "healing" to do damage, but that effects anything that makes your HP go up it seems, including "damage" from poison and necromancy on undead characters, which makes zero sense sense it specifies "healing potions and healing spells."

Cursed surfaces are the Devii, happen often, and have no clear way of removing them.

Most of the monsters can 1-shot your entire party so most of the game-play is centered around min-maxed "broken" builds and cheese game play.

There is so much deus ex machina in this game that your involvement is largely unnecessary. The writers break pretty much every rule of RPG etiquette.

Half my time playing is spent alt-tabbed into an Internet browser trying to figure out WTF I'm supposed to be doing.

This game teeters back and forth between brilliance and awfulness.

    1. The plot offers minor glimpses of depth, but in the end you are the chosen one who must save the world and become the messiah. The regular baddies give off a Spanish Inquisition vibe and hate sourcerors, but they use magic constantly. It's really dissonant to hear them rant about how dangerous you are for your magic

    1. The plot offers minor glimpses of depth, but in the end you are the chosen one who must save the world and become the messiah. The regular baddies give off a Spanish Inquisition vibe and hate sourcerors, but they use magic constantly. It's really dissonant to hear them rant about how dangerous you are for your magic using, and then they throw a fireball at you. The fact that every playable character can wield magic really cheapens the specialness. There is also a turn in the plot that I must have missed since I'm now apparently friends with all of the magisters who were attacking me during the first act, I don't remember why that changed. They also really leaned into the High Fantasy stuff, which means you get rescued by deities and demons and fly a ship into a nether realm, and none of it really seems earned.

    2. Combat has a lot of potential depth, but the game doesn't really lend itself to really tactical play. The free movement system (as opposed to a grid) has a lot of quirks, and it's soooo easy to misclick and have your character saunter over to an enemy instead of launching a lightning bolt. Despite 5 different elemental schools, enemy resistance/vulnerability is quite inconsistent, with most serious baddies having resist-everything, and even mobs having weird mixtures of resistances that require you to inspect each enemy carefully (skeleton A has -20% damage from earth, but not skeleton B). And the myriad of conditions require endless mousing over, for instance I had to mouse over a character's profile anytime I wanted to heal them just to make sure they didn't have "decay" which would reverse the healing effect (the condition had no obvious visual cue). Despite a number of environmental effects, the battlefield inevitably is covered with a mass of burning fires, since pretty much everything and everyone in the game will blow up without warning (especially if you have the Sir Lora DLC, since he'll run around in real time activating every trap).

    3. The graphics are quite lovely at a glance, but the game stutters and slows during saves (which will be often), and without the highlight button it's almost impossible to see most items.

    4. The inventory system is a mess, and the awkward highlighting system makes it very difficult to evaluate your characters' equipment, since switching characters doesn't change the highlighted object until you mouse away and back. The rune crafting is also difficult since there's no marker showing which items in your inventory are equipped or not, requiring more mousing over.

    5. The difficulty (on classic) is aggravated by the really weak tutorial system. I didn't even realize that the bedroll item was the magical cure-all and heal-up item until about 15 hours in.

If Divinity: Original Sin 2 had only been an enormous single-player RPG, it would still be far better than most of what you could compare it to. The fact that it has such well-implemented co-op and a user-friendly game master mode gives it a tremendous amount of value at a time where such a thing can feel like a rarity. Even if you never touch all of its various components, you'll still be left with a role-playing game that exemplifies the best aspects of its genre.

For those looking to get into cRPGs, and even for those just searching for a great RPG, Divinity: Original Sin II is heartily recommended. It has all the virtues that fans of the subgenre have extolled and wraps them up in a way that is much friendlier to newcomers than every other title I've tried. Combine that with fantastic writing, a highly engaging combat system, and great design, and you have another standout RPG in a year packed full of them.
