Dicey Dungeons is a dice-based strategy game. Everything inside the game is connected by dice, which contributes a lot to the solid and interesting combat experience. However, as the time goes on, you will lose your mood to enjoy it within a couple of hours, since it doesn't have too much content to play.

Dicey Dungeons certainly offers a unique experience to turn-based, deck-building titles. Unfortunately, the inclusion of dice can both excite and frustrate, as no amount of planning can prepare one for each contingency one might encounter or a poor run of luck. The unique playstyles keep the game fresh, the sheer quantity of items one might accrue add to the customization. If I've got the itch to throw dice, I can see myself dusting off Dicey Dungeons before anything else, but I think my luck's run dry for the time being.

If the game’s adventures were longer and more purposefully designed, they could be far more appealing. As it stands, Dicey Dungeons exists for players interested in its idiosyncrasies and punishing challenges.

Dicey Dungeons is a charming and often rewarding game, as long as you learn to accept that sometimes the dice won't roll your way.

The charming dungeon crawler builds itself around the chaos of dice. Choose one of six characters, each with their own unique skills and way utilize your rolls of the six-sided die. Combat is rather fun, the artwork feels like a pop-up book, and the electronic soundtrack will have you tapping your foot. Despite the characters and additional modes though, it doesn't feel like Dicey Dungeons expands upon its early hours of play enough. Still, it's an enjoyable roguelite dungeon crawler.

Don't expect the intense theorycrafting of a more complex game here; there's no deep interplay between cards, trinkets, consumables, and other mechanics like you'd see in Slay the Spire. But Dicey Dungeons does what it sets out to do: provides an approachable roguelike strategy game—certainly a much smoother on-ramp than many of its genre compatriots...Most importantly, it's very fun.

Dicey Dungeons constantly reinvents a simple idea to delightful puzzling effect. [Eurogamer Recommended]

Dicey Dungeons is the sort of game that looks inviting, then seems a little silly, and then gets lodged into my head like a song I keep humming. These basic ideas are being explored in many games right now, but Dicey Dungeons proves once again that execution, not originality, is often the most important thing.
  4. There is a happy Saturday morning feel to Dicey Dungeons. It’s as if you’re munching on Coco Pops and watching cartoons, as you fiddle with some toy dice that came free in the cereal box. This is a sorta-deckbuilding game about being transformed into a walking, talking dice and battling creatures on a rigged game show for a chance to “SPIN THE WHEEL” (the wheel always lands on a skull). It’s a make-your-own-luck strategy game about micro-arithmetic, about adding up chump change into shiny pound coins, then flinging those pound coins straight at the forehead of a toothy cowboy. It’s not bad.

While Dicey Dungeons isn’t my favorite in the genre, its approachability and aesthetic makes it stand out in the crowd. It’s the perfect ambassador for a genre I’ve been trying to get everyone I know to play. I only wish I could play it on my phone.

There is definitely a mix or skill and random luck to beat the game.

Game(s) like: Lighter Slay the Spire, Insane Robots

    Pros:
    - Each character and each episode felt unique and interesting
    - Easy to play game that was just fun

    Cons:
    - Would of been nice to have options to make gameplay speed up
    - I sometime couldn't get information on what my equipment was or what equipment others had before a fight. Should show you to help pathing and reduce random.
