What can I say? It's an online only single player game with lackluster graphics. That's right, there's lag in the single player! Its terrible. There are plenty of indie titles that deliver a better experience.

This will most likely be the last Blizzard game i ever buy, i feel they've taken enough of my money without actually giving enough back, I will say that not all is bad with Diablo, its fun to play with friends on higher difficulty, and its quite nice to roam dungeons eventhough it's mindless farming if you think about it (Blizz in a nutshell) However i enjoyed this title to a extent, Story sucked, customization was poor ( there is none almost) as well as Meh graphics for 2012, Overall its a ok game, not a blockbuster or a memorable game, but it serves as time killing and some fun co-op moments. Diablo 3 is incredible. After 12 years of waiting, I can say without a hint of reservation that this is the one game I've played since Grand Theft Auto IV that has delivered. That being said, Diablo 3 is not Diablo 2. There have been a number of changes which may polarize diehard fans of the original, but that I think make for a more enjoyable experience. There have been a number of changes which may polarize diehard fans of the original, but that I think make for a more enjoyable experience. Diablo 3 is a cooperative game. The loot system ensures that everyone gets their own drops. You know longer have to be the fastest clicker to get loot.

The combat is more interactive. You have a set of abilities to choose from that work like a toolkit. You can customize your character on the fly and choose abilities that work better with different classes.

For instance, I play a Barbarian. If I'm grouped with a lot of ranged, I'll use my AoE stuns, and taunts. I also plug in my defensive traits. If I'm running with other melee, I'll use my cleave abilities etc. If I'm soloing, I'll run offensive abilities.

The trait system is like Guild Wars. You have a set of abilities, up to six at any given time which you can swap in and out as well as some passive abilities that add things like extra crit, more health drops, etc.

Also, gone is the potion-spamming **** You can actually play this game. You don't just run into a group of enemies spamming pots, and praying you don't get gibbed. You can actually use your brain to solve problems.

You don't die as much. This isn't a bad thing. Diablo 2 was known for just kind of **** you every now and again. Diablo 3 will still **** you over, but only if you're a derp. In Diablo 3, you can actually use strategy to succeed as opposed to cookie cutter builds, must-have equipment, and button spam.

As for the red scores. I get it. Blizzard's servers were down on launch. They're up now. They're stable, and the game rocks. If you want to play the natural evolution of a genre-creating title, get Diablo 3. You won't be disappointed.

If you're looking for the same old, exploit-ridden derp-fest that is diablo 2. Then just buy Diablo 2. Also, if you want to skip all that real money auction house **** Play on Hardcore.

As an old guy whom remembers the good old days of Diablo and Warcraft I was very excited about Diablo 3! All set and I can't play unless I'm online. Are you kidding me? Ok, fine, I'm online all the time. Then I play and just can't find a character that I like. Finally settle on witch doctor. I start leveling and I have no choice on where to put my skills on on the skill tree! WTF?

OK, I've played for a week and all I can say is: "yawn"! What a disappointment!

The difficulty settings are ridiculously easy, my first 3 intense days of gaming didn't meet any significant challenge ; the environment and enemies seem to come straight out of a disney movie. It's amazing that people can still rip a game for requiring an online connection when I can barely do anything with a computer these days without the Internet being available.
It's not as complex as Diablo 2, but it's also brand-new and Blizz refines these over time (see: Starcraft 2 and WoW). I think it has a certain popular appeal that perhaps the first or second might not have. I think

The story line is awful, dreadful, and possibly the worst offense this game has done. It's predictable plot and contrite characters are just plain bad. Who approved this script, the ineptness is vast.

Too many bad choices by the devs, always online DRM, the dumbed down skill-system and the far to linear levels... Which by the way, aren't that interesting. This game called Diablo 3 just doesn't feel like Diablo, it feels like a chore to play this game. I want to play Diablo 3 by myself, that's what I like to do, so having to log into servers to play singleplayer just feels wrong. The game in itself feels lacking anyway, I can't help to wonder what they've been doing all this time. The only really fun thing about this game is the skills and costumizing them, even though they are quite few compared to Diablo 3. Actually, I can't quite grasp the fact that it's this dumbed down, now town portal scrolls or identify scrolls are needed, just wait a bit. I was actually surprised when I found a piece of armor I had to identify, since I didn't know how I figured I'd learn it later but then I saw the icon, "click to identify", I clicked and after a sec it was identified, I was amazed... What was the point of even having unidentified items to begin with? To make it a surprise what you picked up? I don't know why this game was released this way, new devs mixed in with the fact that it's been touched by Activision? Who knows, but all I know is that it's hard to recommend it even to fans, I'd say those who are most likely to enjoy it is people wanting a gateway into RPG's, but if you want something deeper and more meaningful then just keep looking since even Skyrim has this beat in complexity. I have no choice but to give this the score of 4/10, I'll keep playing it, but I won't feel that good about it... Only good thing about this is the Music and the few Skills there are, if that's enough then go right ahead and buy it. It's more mindless fun than a deep experience, which disappointed me atleast. Diablo 3's visuals take big steps forward from its predecessors, but not too many to take the game away from what is was, alienating veteran players. The audio is strong, vibrant and fitting, especially during the beautiful cinematics. There are also several nostalgic touches such as the sound of healing urns when used, brought from Diablo 2. Fans of the series will no doubt pick up on these details. Game play is top notch. Every element of the game has been thoroughly thought out. Everything just works without a hitch. There have been some bold changes such as taking away skill point allocation, but fortunately these changes work and bring new life to the game. The Controls work well, although it is just a few keys on the keyboard and a mouse. I have read a lot of complaints regarding the 'Internet connection required', and constant server disconnection issues. I may be one of the lucky ones, but I have not yet experienced a single issue since launch, and I have been playing Diablo 3 a lot! Having finished the game twice, and still wanting to play more, I say its money well spent. Thank you Blizzard for taking the time to create such a great sequel. Expand

Blizzard! Please, you dont need Activision! Kick them out ASAP! You dont need thier help in any way, they are just bringing you down!

I support removing the LAN support to force people to play online, I can give you that, but not being able to even start up the game, no not even INSTALL the game without a connection is so retarded it's sad!

It feels like this game was made by blizzard WOW devs who had played D2 but have no idea what it was about. 1: Obviously the DRM, its horrible end of story!

2: 4 player coop? Why oh why! Make it 8 again! I have more than 3 friends I want to be able to play with at the same time! D2 had 8! Why do you go backwards? Stop using the Left 4 Dead four players model! It works for them but not here!

3: The random item stats. Sure I can buy that rare items can have random stats, its Ok for me. But set items and legendarys? NO! Immortal kings is a barbarien set! It should NEVER have the possibilty to have int on it! The item system is so random you will probably see Wizards use IK or even Barbs use Thalrasha or items like that, because the stats are 100% random.
Sets and legendarys should have fixed stats, BUT the numbers can differ, lets say the IK chest have Str, vit and dex, and it can have 75-125 of each but its random whay number you end up with.
This is the worst part of the game!

4: identifying items, this has no purpose at all. You can do it when you pick up the items. I can understand removing the scrolls, but as it was made its pointless! Just make the item drop identified insted! Its just busy work.

5: The lack of personalization, every single Barb or wizard will look and have the exact same stats. You have no personalization choises what so ever except from gender and name. I want to be able to put out some stats on my char, not be the exact same cookiecutter class like the rest of the players! Give us choises damn it!

    Good things about the game.

1: The loot system in MP. I really like the loot system, everyone has his or her own loot so you cant "ninja" items. This is really awesome!

2: The difficulty, no need to say anything about it, it makes the game hard and enjoyable for everyone. If you cant handle Hell or inferno, then stay on nightmare.

3: The skill system, sure I would like to see more skills, it gets boring after a while. But its easy to understand and use.

Overall the good outweighs the bad, this is a really fun game, when it works. If you are a real hardcore D2 fan, this might not be the game for you. And Blizzard, this is the weekest game you have made so far! This isnt up to your standards. We expect more from you!
And I cant stress this point enough! LEAVE ACTIVISION! The quaility of your games are declaining, and it shows that you dont need them! You have fans that loves you! If it was a money issue I belive that you could make a purly fan financed game without a problem! We love Blizzard! We hate Activison!

First is its very short, Compared to something like Witcher 2 or Skyrim this game just seems so tiny, it really feels like an IPad game you'd pay £6 for. Even though its short much of the content isn't varied or interesting, particularly in the dungeons.

Also the graphics aren't great, its not even that they're unattractive but rather its that they don't fit in with the dark sinister feel of the story. Finally, despite my rock solid network connection which I play games on regularly, I kept getting kicked out of my own single player game because it claimed it has lost my connection. Each time it did it I lost my progress, starting at the last checkpoint. If it wasn't for this very frustrating nonsense I'd have been completed even quicker.

Gameplay and graphics aside, I simply do not understand how Blizzard (who had YEARS to get their servers up to par) cannot give its players a DAY of gaming without having some server issue. I doubt this will even be looked at, but I feel like I have to say something in the wake of so much negative reaction from the Metacritic user base. First of all, is the game perfect? No. There is no getting away from the always on connection and lag in a single player game from time to time -- both of which are a pain. However, these are gripes that can and will be ironed out; offlineI doubt this will even be looked at, but I feel like I have to say something in the wake of so much negative reaction from the Metacritic user base. Once you get into the game, it's still the most enjoyable isometric franchise I can ever remember playing. Combat is satisfying and challenging at higher levels. The classes all have a distinct and differentiated feel about them. The story is good, but the amount rich lore there is to uncover completely enhances it. Graphics could have been better. Environments are stunning but character models definitely have more than a touch of Warcraft about them. I understand that there is a lot going on in certain dungeons, and I've debated with myself if the pros outweigh the cons in this area. I concluded that considering the amount of strain it puts on your system I expect a better end result in this day and age. It's not a gamebreaker by any means, though. In some ways the sound makes up for it. Voice acting, backing tracks, combat effects: all note perfect.

With more content to be added in the future, such as PvP, I do think the potential is there for this game to last years. Some will question if it's better than Diablo 2. The answer is: of course it is. The real question is: is playing the game now in 2012 better than when you first started playing Diablo 2 way back in the late 90's? That's trickier, and only you can answer that one. I can't get past my nostalgia to give a definitive answer, and I suspect ultimately it comes down to how long I genuinely want to keep playing the game for. The best I can say is that I want to want to keep playing it, because right now it's currently my game of the year.

My one major complaint is that the game never feels very difficult, especially on Normal. There are frustrating moments, hordes of baddies, and increasing difficulty levels, but the same feeling of utter defeat never really happens as it did in the past.

For all the game's missteps, though, you certainly can't accuse Blizzard of phoning it in - if anything, the game suffers from the tendency to try a little to hard at times to evolve the design. [Aug 2012, p.61]

When it works, Diablo III is the best of the Diablo games. When it doesn't, all it does is make you mad. [July 2012, p.54]
