Nevermind the server issues (which clearly should have been anticipated after the beta and with presale numbers) the game as a whole (both in gameplay and server issues) should take a shelf to other more engaging games out there currently. Perhaps if Blizzard wasnt so conerrned with their customers "stealing" their "game", the DRM issue would have been avoided, leaving behind the requirement that one had to log into its servers in order to play the game. Alas, I am sure this was done not for DRM and IP theft concerns but for the creation of microtransaction revenue through their real money auction house. Question: I preorder numbers were known a week or less before launch, wouldnt you make sure you had the capacity to handle all of those connections? On the bright side, I can return to Skyrim (170 hours in) and look forward to other games in this genre releasing this quarter. Expand

Unfortunately Blizzard decided it was a good idea to require an always online connection for single player, meaning you lose your map every time you sign out, you risk lag induced stuttering if there's a problem on their end or yours, and LAN isn't supported. For people that mostly wanted to play online, that's all fine, but for the significant portion of users that are only interesting in single player and/or LAN, Blizzard has thrown in completely unnecessary problems with this ridiculous DRM. To make matters worse, they weren't ready for the launch despite repeating their mantra "it will be out when it's done" for the past several years. Many users, myself included, couldn't log on for hours after the release, and midway through the day the servers went down again. I also found that after logging off and back on, all my keybindings had reverted to the default, so there are definitely still bugs that need to be ironed out. I expect these day 1 problems from Bethesda, which is why I don't buy their games until they've been out for months or years, but Blizzard has always promised a polished, complete product on release. Sadly, they have not delivered that. As a result, I will not be buying any full price Blizzard titles in the future and will completely boycott any future releases with ridiculous DRM. It's sad to see Blizzard sinking to the ranks of companies like EA and Ubisoft.

If it weren't for the DRM, Diablo 3 would get a 9/10 from me. But it has this horrible DRM and a terrible launch, so 5/10 is the most it deserves. Don't buy Diablo 3, at least not until the price comes down. Blizzard doesn't deserve to be paid full price for a game that was so flawed on release.

The requirement for an internet connection is obviously be a personal preference, the fact that servers have been having issues means they have taken my money and not delivered the product as promised. If this was the first time it had happened for a Blizzard game then you could understand being surprised. However since this appears to happen with all their recent releases it is another example of expecting mediocrity. The blame here lies with their management, allowing failure time and time again is a company culture that didn't use to exist at Blizzard. Aside from the release day problems this game is going to give me hundreds of hours of gameplay. Sitting at around 60% uptime. Thats a D- where I come from. Graphics are decent but really nothing to write home about these days. This game lost all of it's soul. No character customization .. pay to win RMAH? really? Is it better than 3rd party sites selling stuff? Who cares? it's evil. The only thing they got right was the gore.

Bought the game 12 hours ago...still not able to play!! Not worth the money, these people just want to cash in! Not to mention there is zero support or sign somebody is working on the problem!! (I realy think they are working on it, but lets face it, they could expect so many logons on this day so they should have invest some money in good servers)

I can usually find a redeaming feature in just about anything and never cast straight zeroes (and very rarely straight 10s), but if value returned for money paid is exactly zero, what can I say?

Why was it possible to play Starcraft in offline mode once I logged in, and why isn't it in D3? If I'm FORCED to be online all of the time, there is NO excuse for not enough servers in use or the software not working. I refuse to be cheated and patronized by companies that take my money and THEN treat me like a criminal. No more games with forced online mode in single player for me. Period.

And this isn't even the Error 27 - the worst is Error 3006. 3004, 3007 and 300008. And when Blizzard finally provides people with some solutions... guess what! The link brings up a 404 Error. Even their solutions have errors.

This is just plain embarrassing and it makes me sick to my stomach to think that so many people have paid money for a game that they can no longer play through no fault of their own. Blizzard told their fans flat-out to just go play other games when they're unable to play Diablo III. Guess what?

That's exactly what I intend to do. Max Payne 3 came out today and that game at least actually WORKS.

Took the day off work, couldn't get on last night due to stress errors, can't get on right now due to servers being down. I work all the time, don't know when I will get the chance to spend a serious amount of time on this game. Severely disappointed that I can't play a game I own. Learn from my mistakes: Don't pre-order from blizzard, don't expect to play on release day.

No customizable characters? That's so 2000. This game is based on loot, and you want characters where that loot looks pretty on.
This game has nothing that any other H&S game has...well, the RealMoneyAH that the majority doesn't want anyways.
This is probably the worst disappointment since Duke Nukem Forever. I'd give this game a 1 for the nice music during the installation, but

Horrible. Graphics are ok, but very blurry. Why am I playing a blurry game at 1920x1080? No idea... Sound is awesome. Character and build customization are simplified, but that doesn't bother me too much, even in D2 the viable builds were only a handful and the rest were just ways to screw up your character, and I don't think anyone enjoyed grinding for another 2 months to make a new sorceress, only she spams lightning instead of frost. **** I don't mind the simplification. The atmosphere is fine, on par with D2 (of course not as dark and oppressive as D1). Can't comment on story, since I haven't finished it yet, can't comment on loot and AH either cause it will take months for a big portion of the loot to be discovered and for the AH to reach a "standard state" which could be a good or bad state, we just dont know yet. Overall, there are no moments where you are absolutely amazed, but the core of the game is solid. Expand

The game is unplayable. This is remarkable since all Blizzard ever said is they are waiting until it is a completely finished product. If it is a completely finished product, then we can safely review it as it stands now. And as it stand now, it is unplayable and worth of a 0/10.

Within 20 hours of trying to start this game I didn't manage to. I saw D3 on my friend's pc and it was... poor. Very easy, faded/blury graphics, automatic skills (are we 5 yo?), average music. D2 is sooo much better (personally, for me D1 is the best). I waited in the line for 5h during the night to get this game. For 20h I try to run it (errors 37 and 75). Sorry Blizzard, you failed. Whether you live in Asia, Europe or "the Americas," Diablo 3's midnight launch (and unless you were lucky enough to live in certain time zones, wasn't actually midnight launch). The servers were unable to handle the traffic, and a lot of people couldn't play. That said, WoW and Starcraft 2 experienced the same issues at launch, and today they are recognized as some of the best games within their genres. The day of launch is the WORST day to play these games, as they have historically been very rocky due to the absurd amount of people trying to connect. I understand why people are upset at the always-online requirement of these games, but for me they are by no means a deal-breaker. That said, if you have a decent computer and a good internet connection, you owe it to yourself to try Diablo 3. It is one of the easiest games to play and yet one of the most satisfying. The art in this game is fantastic, it's moody and at times looks painted onto the screen. Although the environments are linear and restrictive, Blizzard has done a lot of nice things visually to make the places you explore seem vast and epic. There are huge vertical drops and lots of detail everywhere to keep the places you explore nice places to be. The combat is very simple, but the large amount of skills and modifications for those skills keep you looking forward to the next level up. The skills themselves also feel incredible to execute. Bashing things as a barbarian has never felt so right, and there is something righteous about throwing a giant jar of spiders at your enemy as a witch doctor. Killing elite monsters and watching as loot with different colored fonts showers from their corpses is still one of the most elating feelings in gaming, even if your left mouse button is doing the bulk of the work.

In short, I've been waiting for Blizzard to make this game for 12 years, and already the game has delivered beyond my expectations. Do think, buy.

This crippling form of security serves no purpose other than agitating and frustrate legitimate customers. The pirates will always find a way around, it like they always do, even if that means emulating servers or similar shenanigans. Meanwhile we have to deal with potential latency issues and the worry of getting disconnected while playing what could very well be a single player game. The removal of the option of playing over a local area network is also very much deplorable and it is obviously due to the inclusion of the DRM and forced online play.

Another negative thing is the issue of having a cash shop in what essentially could be considered a single player game. The fact that there is a pay-to-win cash shop if you choose to play online is itself not an issue. But Blizzard's way of legalizing gold farming and RMT merely for them to earn a bit of money from every transaction does leave a very bad taste in my mouth.

The visual aesthetics are in my opinion quite unappealing and from a technical standpoint the graphics are pretty lacking as low resolution textures are hidden behind bloom and blurr. Granted, this may not be something deal breaking for most people; but for a game which has been in development for as long as Diablo 3 has, one should not be faulted for having expected something better.

This is such a step back from diablo 2 it puts the franchise to shame, a decade of waiting brought us this failure of a product, huge disappointment Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Since icannot actually play the game i paid 59 euros for, this gets zero points right off the bat. Its a shocking and appaling how blizzard, a company that has already launched a major mmo title and another multiplayer title is unable to launch a game that was anticipated for over a decade, they KNEW this was a massive storm of players rushing to the servers.
And they completely ignored it. Hey, industry: you sell us games in this fashion, you made that decision. Its not us asking you to do this kind of crap, especially the online only part. You KNOW when there is launch day and you know people will actually go and play the game they bought. SO **** PREPARE YOU ****

This game gets zero points on the basis that blizzard is a shed full of retard monkeys.

    Blizzard - > Check
    Mass marketing campaign -> check
Single player game that won't run because of online DRM Crap -> check.
    Yeah, that's a zero.

Seriously, there was a closed beta, there was a public beta. Was there no one at home when ordering the servers?

I apologize for my long-winded nature!

This game is Great. Right now there seems to be a lot of angry people mostly complaining about launch related issues, which should not have baring on the game itself. If you you have even been apart of a world-wide, or even region-wide, server start-up that is expecting several Million people to log-in all at the same time then you may criticize

If you you have even been apart of a world-wide, or even region-wide, server start-up that is expecting several Million people to log-in all at the same time then you may criticize Blizzard's methods. Until then shut it and stick to reviewing the game. As for people saying this is not even close to what D2 was... That is a blatant lie and you know it. Take a screenshot of D2 and D3, put them side by side. What do you notice? Oh it's the same except D3 is less pixelated. For those of you that think the game is easy mode... You should wait to play through the entire game. We all know Normal is a cake walk. It was suppose to be. I know none of you are into Nightmare at the time of this posting, since you are also complaining about not being able to log-in. And please quit with the DRM bashing. The game community caused this, now lie in the bed we all made. Cool you are a "single player gamer", toss a little community in your cup, it just might brighten your day having that semi-human interaction. And lastly, The real-money auction house is a great idea! They went through the trouble to secure a service that the community really wanted. This is a ground breaking move. If you don't want to be apart of it, you're in luck, you don't have to use it!

tl;dr Stop complaining and give the game more than a surface glance.

Make a potential popular game that requires online connectivity and login and this is what you get.

NOTHING... shame on blizzard epic fail. Even the forums receive Errors. I thought they would have learned from the beta.. but i almost want to go back to store for asking back my money.

Why so many Negative reviews? Just because they changed it to be more user friendly and more entertaining? Sad to see the people give up on it totally and give it a 0, O wait, they are probably still playing it with their grumpy attitude. I give it an 8.

I overall like the graphics, the gameplay and how user friendly they made the game! It may be downgraded a bit for that part but oh well, it is still enjoyable.

The only problems I see so far that most people(not the sore raters) see is the lack of character customization and the server's launch problems but that isn't too big of a issue, they WILL get it fixed and working in no time!

Honestly would have though that all the Login problems from the Beta would have been sorted for the Main Launch. But I guess not. I'm disappointed Blizzard, very disappointed =(

When it works, it's a great game although Blizzard are clearly using a modified WoW engine which does not do the atmosphere justice at all. Blizzard should not have released an unfinished single player game as an online game. They should have been ready for the huge server demand. Blizzard is incompetent and should not get your money. Don't waste it like Ã

My one major complaint is that the game never feels very difficult, especially on Normal. There are frustrating moments, hordes of baddies, and increasing difficulty levels, but the same feeling of utter defeat never really happens as it did in the past.

For all the game's missteps, though, you certainly can't accuse Blizzard of phoning it in - if anything, the game suffers from the tendency to try a little to hard at times to evolve the design. [Aug 2012, p.61]

When it works, Diablo III is the best of the Diablo games. When it doesn't, all it does is make you mad. [July 2012, p.54]
