8/10. This game is an absolute classic, and due to the immense amount of variation in builds and styles, this game is still a load of fun to play.

The graphics suck for today's age, true, but it came out *eleven* years ago. It's still a great game, although I don't like the latter system on battle net in the slightest. Diablo 3 failed to live up to this game, so I bounced back to it

An RPG game for the ages. Fun fast paced combat with a variety of different skills and items. Diablo II has a great story and a good dark atmosphere to go with it. As it is over 10 years old it has aged and has a few things that are outdated, but still it holds up after all these years. Amazing replay value.

The best game that I ever played in my life. It's a pillar of my gamer life, the style, the economic system inside the multiplayer. THe classes, the characterization, spell tree, WOW. The best hack 'n' slash created by the Blizzard.

I didn't try multi-player, but I still think this review isn't beside the point. Diablo 2 is a great single-player game, I know every bitmap of it, and I would lay may hands on it anytime again - if it wouldn't take so much of my precious time. It has excellent sound and music, its own kind of beauty, and "levels" that are interesting every time you replay the game. I love the atmosphere and the almost perfect gameplay, with lots of interesting play styles available.

Almost perfect, because: Even after lots of patches, the skill tree system is not beginner-friendly. Instead, to shape a successful character, you need to read guides on the web, learn from the experiences of others. Or you will lose very much time when you find out that your choices are punished by the game.

Also, you cannot really NOT die in this game (although there is a hardcore mode). O, I will never forget these moments where everthink seemed fine - only to find myself hit by a nasty fiend with some weird combination of enchantments, taking all you life with one stroke... such a game cannot get a 10. Still, I know every bitmap of it.

This is the greatest hack and slash game I've ever played. It has a good story, interesting setting, dark moody atmosphere, and great combat. This can be considered one of the best of this genre and really defined most modern RPG hack and slash games. It's highly addictive and still holds up to this day as you tend to forget the graphics quality and bad path finding.

Battle.net is not working for me at the moment due to the just-released patch, but single player alone is worth the meager 10 bucks for this game.

I still prefer the first Diablo, but even this one has the moments, Kurast Jungle and especially the entire Desert Act 2 was fantastic. I usually don't care about cinematics, but the movie parts in this game were just incredible, still remember it until this day, the rise of Mephisto I got goosebumps every single time I saw that. While the combat animations are smooth and attractive, the graphics would only be pushing the envelope 5 years ago and can only be considered average now. If it was possible to alt-tab during dialogue and still hear the voices, I'd do it. You gain nothing by watching the visuals. As others have said, the skill trees have been "stream lined". I put that in quotes because, as we all know, simplifying something for the sake of simplifying doesn't make a game better. Blizzard assumed their average player was too stupid to handle anything even remotely complex or with any depth. After browsing the Battle.net forums, I'm inclined to agree with them. While I would have given this game a 7/10 for "Average" I am forced to lower the score substantially after their launch debacle. Blizzard chose to make Single Player require a permanent online connection. While this in and of itself is a setback for consumer rights, it reached cluster-f*** status when the entire first day of release the servers were going down every 15-30 minutes and staying down for hours on end. Every single person who told everyone "Don't bother pre-ordering, it's going to be a f***-up anyway" was 100% right. Blizzard is rapidly becoming the new EA when it comes to their respect for consumers. Expand

A mediocre rpg. First of all, the graphics stink. Even when it was first released, the graphics were not that great. Another thing is the size of towns. Simply killing monsters and collecting items is fun for quite a while, but by the time you reach the third act, it gets quite boring. The skill system is cool, but it is very easy to completely mess up your character and have the wrong skill combo. The combat is either extremely easy or insanely hard, there isn't really an in-between. at one point your slaughtering enemies and then a special monster comes and nearly kills you. Altogether, this game was fun for a while, but got boring soon. This game is best for those who don't like thinking much and just want to battle. You no longer move at an elderly pace, and some classes can even move across the screen within a second or two. Skill trees are fresh and offer new strategy and customization. Stacked belt slots create new and exciting potion mashing in a way that attempts to ameliorate the broken, simplistic gameplay like never before. Fortunately it's so easy to exploit design loopholes (even despite the horribly simple design) that the difficulty of the previous game is only a slight issue. Also new in this version is 640x480 resolution (gasp!) that really brings the visual acuity to a level never before seen, except perhaps 10 years prior and ever since. Basically the graphics are as awful as they could possibly be with the title still considered to be AAA. The expansion brings the resolution up to 800x600. A few months after that (in 2001), Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance came out, on a console no less, with graphics that are comparable to the now imminent Diablo 3 (estimated to be released in 2011 or 2012). You can see the trend here. But Blizzard does not focus on graphics! They focus on innovative new gameplay. There had never been a game with similar gameplay to Diablo 2 before... lol. By that I mean Blizzard is full of marketing geniuses that shove mediocre games down our throats until we reward them with billions of dollars. This concludes my review. Expand
