Jul 1, 2015Though not as expansive enough to call it a true special edition, Devil May Cry 4 features a lot of fan-favorite additions and an attractive price that makes it well worth double-dipping (or triple-dipping if you originally started on console and moved to PC).

Jun 25, 2015A great action game with new characters, but the new version keeps the weaknesses of the original and re-uses a lot of levels.
-
Jun 24, 2015Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition has tons of new mechanics with its new characters. Classic hack and slash gameplay, smooth visuals and great challenges in terms of difficulty.
-
Jul 5, 2015If you've never played DMC 4 before and its theme draws your attention, the remastered version is an excellent opportunity to get a taste of a demanding game that rewards the player very well as long as he's dealing with it. And then you may cry too.

Jun 23, 2015The Devil May Cry 4 core gameplay that made it fun in 2008 is still very much alive and breathing underneath the ‘special edition’ moniker, though some of the gameplay mechanics have been smoothed out. The added characters, improvement in visuals and price point might make this something to jump on, especially if you have never played the game.

Jul 3, 2015Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition is a good way to enjoy the last episode of the classic DMC series.
-
CD-ActionSep 18, 2015DMC4SE does not improve the gameplay as much as DmC: Definitive Edition did, it does not offer the spectacle God of War is famous for, but I assure you that in no other game building combos is so much fun. [09/2015, p.42]

Jul 28, 2015Devil May Cry 4 has not aged that well. Too much backtracking, boring riddles and the dull levels affect the fun overall. The gameplay instead still feels fresh and the action is really cool in 60fps. The new characters in the Special Edition are also really good, but when you play the story with them, they do not appear in the cut-scenes which looks weird. Overall Devil May Cry 4 is still a good game, but if you have played it before, you definitely do not have to buy the Special Edition. The new elements do not affect the game that much.

Jun 23, 2015While it seemed a bit weird that Capcom had not originally included Devil May Cry 4 into its HD Collection a few years back, the Special Edition is worth a look for fans of the series on the PlayStation 4 as a stand alone game, thanks to the visual upgrades and new character scenarios.
-
PC PowerPlayAug 9, 2015A fun distraction buck lacks enough depth to keep your attention for too long. [Aug 2015, p.65]
-
Jun 23, 2015While this Special Edition provides slight combat tweaks and additional characters to toy with, there's just not enough mechanical or architectural variation to justify the fluff. As a result, the endless combat rooms and recycled scenarios can be exhausting.

Jan 19, 2016When playing DMC4: SE you can see how certain parts of the design had grown archaic. How even Dante, as wonderfully flamboyant as ever, was skirting a razor’s edge of self-parody. And how, perhaps, Capcom’s DMC team felt they had reached their limits with the series. This Dante is the product of so many years of refinement that he feels complete. It makes this the kind of game where, despite all the little problems, mastering the core system is so rewarding they just stop mattering. And it’s something of a full stop, for now at least, on one of Capcom’s most original series.
