I honestly feel very conflicted about this game. On one hand I had great fun, but then it became free to play and felt a bit like a spit into face to supporting fans. Now it just feels like a bad attempt to drain even more money and time with poor light mechanics. It's simply sad.

Shadowkeep is a bland, shallow, boring expansion to the Destiny 2 franchise with a campaign and story that is all levels of uninteresting.

    Shadowkeep ruined everything about Destiny.
Everything is given to you. It seems as if they punish players who bought this at launch. We spent a lot of money buying it on launch, and all the DLC. And now everything we did was worthless. The small amount of content to the game was taken away. Now why bother play the story when you get nothing from it? No need to play the story for light. By giving everything away, you gave your entire game and all the DLC maybe 6 hours of actual content. Bad move.

A lot of people keep saying that the game is "Better than it was 2 years ago" and that they fixed what was wrong with it. Let me be clear, they've only fixed one thing since release and that's moving shotguns, snipers, and fusion rifles to the secondary and primary slot. To be fair, this is a great change. But that's how it was in Destiny 1, so congratulations to Bungle there for being exactly where you started.
Now let's go to the things they haven't fixed. Gear progression is number one for me because it is why I quit 2 years ago. Instead of chasing interesting gear, you are chasing an imaginary number called power level. There's nothing inherently interesting about a number to determine how powerful you are but until you near max power level, that's all you have to chase. And it's extremely boring. On top of that, "Powerful gear" is still a thing where you can upgrade your gear until you hit a wall and then have to open powerful engrams to get gear with higher numbers, which have weekly lockouts. So now your power number, which isn't even interesting in the first place, has a weekly lockout preventing you from progressing. Awesome.
I really can't stress enough how dumb the power level is. Bungie, it's just a number. It's not some cool weapon, or some sick powerful armor. It's a number. How disappointing

On top of that, the way you level up is still the same as it was on release: world quests. yaaaaay. To be fair, world quests are kind of fun at first. Then you get annoyed with the repetition and the fact that many of the f2p newbies don't know how to do them. I'm also pretty sure the rewards for heroic and normal world quests are the same now so what's the point of the heroic version?

On top of that, there's still no matchmaking for nightfalls and for anything other than normal strikes. You need to use third party software like discord for that. What's truly amazing is that there is already a matchmaking system, why not just use that? The fact I need to go to my web browser to find people to play with is baffling.

Armor 2.0 is terrible. Remember when I was talking about how bad the power level was for determining power? Well Armor 2.0 fully embraces the power level as now armor pieces are just some power number additions that have mod slots. There's nothing special about armor now, in fact people are using their power 750 old gear because it's better. Obviously it's better, because it has useful stats on it (not just a meaningless power number) Which leads to my next point:

Mods are useless. I remember when someone was saying at launch how cool it would be if they made the modding system more like warframe where the mods actually gave good buffs. But they don't. The buffs are boring as well. A little damage resistance here, some recoil reduction there. Seriously who TF cares? Give us something interesting

All in all, this whole steam release has been as disappointing as the original release. The game is good for about 8 hours of fun, and since it took me about 24 hours to download it I'll say that it's not even worth downloading

Decent rekinned DLC for about $15, not $30. After the nostalgia wears off, the boredom will set in. Any worthwhile pursuits are locked behind impossible game mechanics for solo or casual players. Any fun cosmetics are locked behind an MTX store. Nothing new for returning players and nothing fun for new players.

Shadowkeep is the inevitable outcome of destiny players begging for the return of nostalgic content from the first game. This expansion is (if you're a long term destiny player like myself) almost entirely derrived from content you've already paid for. The campaign consists of a handfull of missions where you traverse locations on the moon you already visited in the first game, every single boss is a reskinned "nightmare" version of bosses we've already fought, this includes the final boss, almost all of the non-story related loot I recieved was Forsaken loot or older. The campaign is plot bare, incredibly short, answers no real questions and has you doing sidequest tier "kill X enemies with Y gun" style sidequest content for armour pieces for a good half of it's duration.

When Bungie said we were going back to the moon, I expected some reuse of maps, what I didn't expect was almost the entire expansion (that we've unlocked so far) to be recycled content. It's completely unacceptable for bungie to resell us content we've already paid for.

We are into the second week of Shadowkeep and it's looking pretty boring I'm afraid. If I knew how many novelties they really brought I'd have never bought Shadowkeep. This is seriously one of the worst expansions, I do believe last season of annual pass had more content than this.

    - Story as usual super short (had one catchy moment when you saw the pyramid for the first time).
    - New activities:
    - Nightmare hunts - short uninspired strike there's no point in doing harder versions, and the introduction of harder modes take up 3 slots on a Shadowkeep Roadmap...
    - Vex Offensive - fun first couple of times, except there's 0 randomness, Menagerie was much more innovative and fun.
    - Almost no new Exotics and no new guns! There's absolutely nothing exciting to grind for ...well, if grinding for armour mods for the second time excites you there's that.
    - And.....
    ......
that's it, seriously, there's nothing fun to do after just 2 days, that is really sad. You can grind for re-skins of Osiris weapons if you want...That was supposed to be all free Bungie style addition to the game. Well, it seems they don't have much to offer after all.
I feel like this game that is supposed to last 2 more years is centered towards New Light players with all new Eververse Microtrasaction store which received the biggest update it seems.

I wish I never played Destiny 2, swooped in right now grabbed 25$ Forsaken bundle and had a real blast, and tons of content for cheapz, instead I've paid 220$, OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT and feel like and absolute IDIOT half the time. Truthfully, only FORSAKEN was worth the money. The rest I feel like an idiot 200$ wtf Mom.....

An expansion that somehow manages to go in all the wrong directions.

Boring & short campaign. Awful experience for new players. Removal of levels for said new players and they just throw you into the middle of it. The same boring endgame loop that has existed since the start with very few improvements. It honestly baffles me how this can continue each expansion. Even the cash shop

I haven't played the game since a month after it's launch. I've completed the Leviathan Raid, had a few exotics when I left. I recently came back after 2 years and I regret doing so. I recently came back after 2 years and I regret doing so. The game was lacking content at launch, but the loot-system was pretty decent. You'd actually have a chance of dropping exotics in activities. The current version of Destiny 2 has one major issue: It's grind. The unbearable amount of grind that needs to be done in this game is just insane. Almost all exotics are locked up behind ridiculously grindy quests. One quest can be tied to 10 or more tedious quests and the requirements for most of them are absolute insane. For example, there is a quest that requires you to win PvP matches, but once you lose a match, the progression will be lost. There are quest requirements that require you to do an absolute ridiculous amount of grind in a certain activity - and here lies the problem: The player has no freedom in choice. They force you into doing certain activities exclusively. It's becomes a chore and is simply not fun at all. I've been playing Shadowkeep nonstop since launch and I've yet to see an exotic drop. The only thing I did was the Deathbringer quest which was also tied to like 5-10 more quests. If grinding all day in tedious ways is fun for you, good for you, but people who have lives and also do play other games as well, aren't going to stick around for long. I decided to put this game down for good. This games grind is absolutely insane and on another level. If you thought Warframe is grind, wait to see what Destiny 2 has to show you.
This game is a grindfest and it's grind isn't fun either. I'm really disappointed with this game. I'll need a cleanse by playing games that are actually fun and don't feel like a full time job now. Bye, Destiny franchise. You're unfortunately heading to the wrong direction. And it's also funny that barely one who played this game points the fact out that this game is heavily grindy. I'm also disappointed in the players of this game.

As to the Shadowkeep DLC itself: You better save your money. It's a 2 hour campaign plus it's mostly rehashed content. Do you expect me to get exited for the moon when I played on Destiny 1's moon already back in 2014? Same goes for most of the exotics that they brought back to the game. You take the exotics away from the player only to make them grind the hell out for the same weapons. Some of them, like the Bad Juju also have been changed into uselessness. Bungie is the master of rehashing/reskinning old content and presenting it to you as something new. But most of the players seem to not get tired of that, which is kinda funny. I wish I could recommend this game, but in it's current state it's not worth it. It's too grindy and not fun anymore.

The new UI system is a mess, if you are a new player and buy an expansion, for example "Forsaken", you have no clue how to start its questline.
When googling for it you get old articles for the old version.
Only after asking on the forums you understand how to start the questline.

Game fails on many levels. The added complexity ruins the experience. Their answer to enhancement core complaints was upgrade modules? Okay then. I'm sure that will go over nicely. 6 stats instead of 3? Armor that requires mats to upgrade not only the light but the energy too? Why? Because we needed to go back to 1990 when it comes to theory crafting?

No thanks. I'm done. 1500 hours

It's a pity that all these great changes are overshadowing the core content of the Shadowkeep expansion, but I can't say I'm surprised. For newcomers to the universe, Destiny 2 will be quite overwhelming, while veterans of the series might not find enough reasons to buy the new Shadowkeep expansion unless they really want to check out the new raid and all the gear it drops. But I'm leaning towards “wait for sale.”
