Decent rekinned DLC for about $15, not $30. After the nostalgia wears off, the boredom will set in. Any worthwhile pursuits are locked behind impossible game mechanics for solo or casual players. Any fun cosmetics are locked behind an MTX store. Nothing new for returning players and nothing fun for new players.

I recently came back after 2 years and I regret doing so. The game was lacking content at launch, but the loot-system was pretty decent. You'd actually have a chance of dropping exotics in activities. The current version of Destiny 2 has one major issue: It's grind. The unbearable amount of grind that needs to be done in this game is just insane. Almost all exotics are locked up behind ridiculously grindy quests. One quest can be tied to 10 or more tedious quests and the requirements for most of them are absolute insane. For example, there is a quest that requires you to win PvP matches, but once you lose a match, the progression will be lost. There are quest requirements that require you to do an absolute ridiculous amount of grind in a certain activity - and here lies the problem: The player has no freedom in choice. They force you into doing certain activities exclusively. It's becomes a chore and is simply not fun at all. I've been playing Shadowkeep nonstop since launch and I've yet to see an exotic drop. The only thing I did was the Deathbringer quest which was also tied to like 5-10 more quests. If grinding all day in tedious ways is fun for you, good for you, but people who have lives and also do play other games as well, aren't going to stick around for long. I decided to put this game down for good. This games grind is absolutely insane and on another level. If you thought Warframe is grind, wait to see what Destiny 2 has to show you.
This game is a grindfest and it's grind isn't fun either. I'm really disappointed with this game. I'll need a cleanse by playing games that are actually fun and don't feel like a full time job now. Bye, Destiny franchise. You're unfortunately heading to the wrong direction. And it's also funny that barely one who played this game points the fact out that this game is heavily grindy. I'm also disappointed in the players of this game.

As to the Shadowkeep DLC itself: You better save your money. It's a 2 hour campaign plus it's mostly rehashed content. Do you expect me to get exited for the moon when I played on Destiny 1's moon already back in 2014? Same goes for most of the exotics that they brought back to the game. You take the exotics away from the player only to make them grind the hell out for the same weapons. Some of them, like the Bad Juju also have been changed into uselessness. Bungie is the master of rehashing/reskinning old content and presenting it to you as something new. But most of the players seem to not get tired of that, which is kinda funny. I wish I could recommend this game, but in it's current state it's not worth it. It's too grindy and not fun anymore.

We are into the second week of Shadowkeep and it's looking pretty boring I'm afraid. If I knew how many novelties they really brought I'd have never bought Shadowkeep. This is seriously one of the worst expansions, I do believe last season of annual pass had more content than this.

    - Story as usual super short (had one catchy moment when you saw the pyramid for the first time).
    - New activities:
    - Nightmare hunts - short uninspired strike there's no point in doing harder versions, and the introduction of harder modes take up 3 slots on a Shadowkeep Roadmap...
    - Vex Offensive - fun first couple of times, except there's 0 randomness, Menagerie was much more innovative and fun.
    - Almost no new Exotics and no new guns! There's absolutely nothing exciting to grind for ...well, if grinding for armour mods for the second time excites you there's that.
    - And.....
    ......
that's it, seriously, there's nothing fun to do after just 2 days, that is really sad. You can grind for re-skins of Osiris weapons if you want...That was supposed to be all free Bungie style addition to the game. Well, it seems they don't have much to offer after all.
I feel like this game that is supposed to last 2 more years is centered towards New Light players with all new Eververse Microtrasaction store which received the biggest update it seems.

I wish I never played Destiny 2, swooped in right now grabbed 25$ Forsaken bundle and had a real blast, and tons of content for cheapz, instead I've paid 220$, OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT and feel like and absolute IDIOT half the time. Truthfully, only FORSAKEN was worth the money. The rest I feel like an idiot 200$ wtf Mom.....

Pvp and Gambit are still just no fun. The matchmaking is still not good, the netcode is one of the worst I have seen so far in a Shooter Game, there still Supers that are just way stronger than others. I'm not good at Pvp and that's why I need equal skill players in the enemy team but it's most of the Times just being crushed what makes it hard and time consuming for me do to the pvp challenges.

    The Gameplay is still fun

Shadowkeep doesn't add much, the Story is short, not a lot of new Weapons, I know that they want to add new content to shadowkeep over the year but right now I feel like it's as bad as Curse of Osiris.

The Vex Invasion Saison is ok, it has more stuff in it than shadowkeep right now, thats why I recommend to buy the Season pass for 10$ instead of shadowkeep.

And with that as a whole I feel unsatisfied again with the evolution of destiny. It's getting better but the improvements are just way too slow

Shadowkeep is the inevitable outcome of destiny players begging for the return of nostalgic content from the first game. This expansion is (if you're a long term destiny player like myself) almost entirely derrived from content you've already paid for. The campaign consists of a handfull of missions where you traverse locations on the moon you already visited in the first game, every single boss is a reskinned "nightmare" version of bosses we've already fought, this includes the final boss, almost all of the non-story related loot I recieved was Forsaken loot or older. The campaign is plot bare, incredibly short, answers no real questions and has you doing sidequest tier "kill X enemies with Y gun" style sidequest content for armour pieces for a good half of it's duration.

When Bungie said we were going back to the moon, I expected some reuse of maps, what I didn't expect was almost the entire expansion (that we've unlocked so far) to be recycled content. It's completely unacceptable for bungie to resell us content we've already paid for.

But that's how it was in Destiny 1, so congratulations to Bungle there for being exactly where you started.
Now let's go to the things they haven't fixed. Gear progression is number one for me because it is why I quit 2 years ago. Instead of chasing interesting gear, you are chasing an imaginary number called power level. There's nothing inherently interesting about a number to determine how powerful you are but until you near max power level, that's all you have to chase. And it's extremely boring. On top of that, "Powerful gear" is still a thing where you can upgrade your gear until you hit a wall and then have to open powerful engrams to get gear with higher numbers, which have weekly lockouts. So now your power number, which isn't even interesting in the first place, has a weekly lockout preventing you from progressing. Awesome.
I really can't stress enough how dumb the power level is. Bungie, it's just a number. It's not some cool weapon, or some sick powerful armor. It's a number. How disappointing

On top of that, the way you level up is still the same as it was on release: world quests. yaaaaay. To be fair, world quests are kind of fun at first. Then you get annoyed with the repetition and the fact that many of the f2p newbies don't know how to do them. I'm also pretty sure the rewards for heroic and normal world quests are the same now so what's the point of the heroic version?

On top of that, there's still no matchmaking for nightfalls and for anything other than normal strikes. You need to use third party software like discord for that. What's truly amazing is that there is already a matchmaking system, why not just use that? The fact I need to go to my web browser to find people to play with is baffling.

Armor 2.0 is terrible. Remember when I was talking about how bad the power level was for determining power? Well Armor 2.0 fully embraces the power level as now armor pieces are just some power number additions that have mod slots. There's nothing special about armor now, in fact people are using their power 750 old gear because it's better. Obviously it's better, because it has useful stats on it (not just a meaningless power number) Which leads to my next point:

Mods are useless. I remember when someone was saying at launch how cool it would be if they made the modding system more like warframe where the mods actually gave good buffs. But they don't. The buffs are boring as well. A little damage resistance here, some recoil reduction there. Seriously who TF cares? Give us something interesting

All in all, this whole steam release has been as disappointing as the original release. The game is good for about 8 hours of fun, and since it took me about 24 hours to download it I'll say that it's not even worth downloading

The new UI system is a mess, if you are a new player and buy an expansion, for example "Forsaken", you have no clue how to start its questline.
When googling for it you get old articles for the old version.
Only after asking on the forums you understand how to start the questline.

The moon remains similar to destiny 1 but with more areas and changes. Giant red towers and huge cracks in the moon make it stand out from other planets in destiny 2. The story is good from what I have played. Your guardian actually talks!! They FINALY introduced the triangles that you see at the end of the original campaign in D2. The weapon changes and super changes are also great. Titan is actually a good class to play now and not useless because of the bubble buff (aka weapons of light). I would say if you liked destiny 2 or 1 before you will really like shadowkeep. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Okay so the dlc is a total of $40 (CAD) which includes strictly shadowkeep, sure its recycled content but for what we got to expand on the game is great.

The story is seemingly short as many complained, but what people haven’t realized is that for The $60 (CAD) Verizon you get the Annual pass. Which is a continuation of the main story. (meaning the campaign isn’t over, it’ll just span out within the year) So for the overall price point of $60 you get a YEARS worth of content to expand and evolve the game and it’s story. (oh P.S the servers were only **** for launch day, I myself haven’t had any issues since)

The new gameplay feels much better and the story finally is building up to the bigger story that the destiny universe holds. To those saying the story sucks, I want to say that the story of this year is too large to be told in one campaign. This story will span the entirety of this year and probably for the rest of destiny 2

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I personally only play D2 to do raids with my friends, so take what I have to say with a grain of salt if you so choose. The story of Shadowkeep is not bad. It is just very vague. The Nightmares in this dlc don't really seem to hold the same threats of previous expansions. The main antagonist of the story is the pyramid ship under the moon. It looks cool, that is for sure, but all we are told is that 'They" are responsible for the collapse. I just want to know who "they" are, I paid $35 dollars to be told, "Oh yeah, that badass ship over there? The mystery beings inside that we aren't going to tell you about are responsible for the events of the majority of the previous game. Sorry." I think what they do include, they did well, but there isn't enough there right now to justify the $35 in my opinion. Now all that's left is to wait for the raid I suppose. Expand

Armor 2.0 allows players to chose the mods they want instead of grinding for hours for mediocre perks. All Eververse armor is now an ornament that can be put on any piece of Armor 2.0 gear. This allows for even more customization as players can play with the best looking gear in the game. Now they expect you to regrind all your guns every 9-12 months by making your existing arsenal irrelevant in any meaningful content because they're too incompetent to design new weapons in popular weapon archetypes, and instead churning out unimaginative inferior weapons and just copy and pasting year 1 weapons with random rolls that are useless in high level PvE due to the constraint of the artifact that artificially limits your load out choice and wonder why the player base reject the garbage loot.

Of course people won't use the new sidearms in PvE when they're practically worthless against champions, of course people are not using the "new" Moss Epoch rocket launcher because rockets are hopeless and have been hopeless for months because apparently it's too difficult to buff a underused weapon archetype in a reasonable amount of time and of course people don't go for other kinetic hand cannons beside Spare Rations when there's no other 150 kinetics with random rolls and all other hand cannons archetypes are inferior, release another 150 kinetic hc that is easy to farm with great rolls and another energy aggressive shotgun with quickdraw without having to run the brain dead nightfall and watch all the unimaginative PvP players flock to chase that new loot without Bungie having to invalidate their old guns.

Either way, enjoy being on the new weapon grind treadmill when you have to regrind the Spare Ration and Mindbender equivalent every 9-12 months if you primarily play PvP, and just use whatever acceptable mediocre in PvE because it's piss easy and those loot won't matter down the road, hope you didn't get too attached to your Blast Furnace that you spent hundreds of hours grinding in the mind numbing forges, or your Not Forgotten in competitive, because their days are numbered, and Bungie are too lazy and incompetent to balance their own game.

The biggest downside to this update is a waste of time. If you look at all the content you have seen this time, the content is poor compared to the previous season. Just because you give rewards doesn't make a quest a good quest. In particular, the puzzle to get the bastion before is a good example of this, and the puzzle here takes 3 days to solve and about 2 hours to solve while playing. This is too absurd and it gave me a lot of stress. And there are so many bugs in this game. The final content of this game is Raid. In this raid, the "crown of sadness" game has 13 fatal bugs that prevent it from progressing. If you add all the minor bugs, there are more than 20. However, no improvement has occurred for more than a year. Also, in the PVP, severe balance collapse of weapons, bugs, and hacks were overflowing. If you say that you play the third game, you met those people twice. The method of resolving the balance of the weapon is very tangible, but it made it difficult to obtain a stronger weapon than the previous weapon, so it ruined the balance more, and as a result, the weapon was resolved by setting an expiration date, but this ignores all the efforts and time that the users have done before. It is an act of doing. I have lost all trust in Bungie based on this game. Probably, no matter how good the next update is, I have no intention of playing Bungie's game again. It is not an exaggeration to say that all the narratives and fame it has built up before have been lost at once. It's really the worst update, and I don't recommend this game to anyone.

GREAT new dungeon, good raid, good "new" destination, mediocre story, good new PVP maps, pretty good new loot, great armor changes with being just close to awesome and nightmare hunts are ok.

I would recommend this solely for the raid and the dungeon, with everything else as a nice extra.

A slightly smaller but still great addition with wonderful atmosphere and a collection of new activities. A must-play for Destiny players and a good reason for everyone else to jump onto the “Destiny Train”. In the case of PC version, it is also on Steam. [Issue#299]

Shadowkeep delivers on our expectations, giving us more of the things about Destiny we like, while reminding us that nostalgia ain't what it used to be. [Issue#139, p.106]

It's a pity that all these great changes are overshadowing the core content of the Shadowkeep expansion, but I can't say I'm surprised. For newcomers to the universe, Destiny 2 will be quite overwhelming, while veterans of the series might not find enough reasons to buy the new Shadowkeep expansion unless they really want to check out the new raid and all the gear it drops. But I'm leaning towards “wait for sale.”
