Absolutely incredible remake. I have been craving this game since I played through it several times back in 2008, and several hours in, I am really impressed. The voice characterization of Isaac works great, and truly fleshes out his character. Side missions aren't much so far but add to the great story. Excellent gameplay on an XBox Elite controller with zero issues playing. It seems to be optimized superbly for PC, so those without beefy gaming rigs should still get a rich, smooth, immersive experience. The AI director keeps things interesting---nothing wrong with some good ol'-fashioned jump scares in surround sound, right? Well done and so damn fun!
Playing on my ultimate dream rig in 4k HDR10 on a 32in ROG Swift monitor @144fps with Nvidia G-Sync Ultimate, Liquid-Cooled 12th-Gen Intel Core i9 12900k, 128GB GDDR5 RAM @4800mHz, MSI Z690 Godlike Motherboard, 8TB of storage--2TB NVME x2 & 1 4TB SSD, ROG Strix 1000W Power Supply, and an RTX 4090 Founder's Edition graphics Card, all snug inside of a green and black Mantis case.
Update: I completed it twice and really enjoyed the Game+ mode on the second playthrough. The weapons at full strength are a true joy to slaughter necros with. Increasing my original score of 9 to 10.

I am obviously in the initial stages of the game, but first impressions are very positive. Combat feels fluid, music and audio sounds are great,( Isaac Clarke finally has voice!) and as I mentioned already graphics are huge step up over 2008 game. Performance wise the game runs well on my PC (1440p,5800x,3070Ti,32GB,M.2 Drive). Nothing like issues in The Callisto Protocol with low frame rates and stutters when that game was released.I would love to see this game do well so EA let the talented studio from Montreal to remake DS2,3 and possibly work on Dead Space 4. Overall awesome addition to my Epic Games Store library of games. I highly recommend this game for new comers and DS veterans alike and don't forget to play this game with headphones for ultimate immersion. Expand

Sound and graphics are where this game excels as I was running everything on ULTRA settings @1440p and getting 90+frames. You have to play the game with a nice headset that has 7.1 surround sound as it really draws you into the atmosphere. Game still holds up well today gameplay wise and I look forward to a DS 2 remake. Thank you EA for actually making a well made product. Now go re make BF: Bad Company 2 please!

This is how a remake is done. It's nice to see EA doing something right by gamers after all their recent blunders. Motive did an outstanding job recreating this game, and it felt like I was playing it for the first time all over again. I hope they keep this momentum up and remake Dead Space 2/3.

    - Unexpected and random spawn of enemies.
    - Backtracking and exploration.
    - Adequate limit of ammo for surviving.
    - Awesome and fantastic audio of the ambient world of the dead ship.
    - Scary atmosphere.

As someone who never played DS before this is amazing. No complaints for me. The game can stutter here and there but they are very minor and dont happen during combat. Also they game kind of looks fuzzy looking at npcs and monsters from a distance even with maxed out settings but it didnt distract me at all. This game is amazing to play and experience

Initial stutters and 40-60 FPS gets fixed as soon as you get the past first few minutes of the landing deck. After that it works good with occasional stutters (shader reset through driver worked for me to fix the stutters). In terms of settings Ultra + RT on no FSR

The choices dev made for the (expected by me) scripted scares worked flawlessly, there have been a lot of changes of necromorph spawns, twitchers as an example literally are unpredictable and generally speaking I genuinely jumped a lot of times, in terms of gameplay... you need to be more smart with dismemberment; as an example they added a version of the necromorph with full armour that is harder to kill. I had much more fun that I did in both DS original version and DS2.

Story - without going into spoilers, they succsessfully fixed some of the questionable arcs within the first game. New paths, new way of exploring, at first I was confussed about the backtracking but then I realised that I need to progress the story a little bit more linear than a typical half-open world games which initially I thought was going to be the case for the remake

I give it a solid 10/10 I really hope EA will not screw potential sequel remakes and motive studio have delivered.

They also removed the turret section which is also a huge bonus.
This will tie us over until System Shock Remake comes out which hopefully the devs won't botch. But for now the crown belongs to Dead Space.

A NEW JOURNEY INTO THE DEAD SPACE

    BEFORE WE START:
Dead Space Remake was developed by Motive Studio and published by Electronic Arts. This title is a true reproduction of the original 2008 game, produced by the now-defunct Visceral Games. This product sets itself apart from the various remakes in today's market by offering new mechanics and paths compared to the original. The game has been 100% completed on Xbox Series X.

    THE NIGHTMARE BEGINS, AGAIN:
Dead Space Remake begins with an introductory scene to the game's story, showcasing the various members of the expedition, including the legendary engineer Isaac Clarke, the protagonist of the entire trilogy. Unlike the original, he now has an uncovered face and sets the stage for the continuous feast of visual and auditory delights that this remake offers to players of all categories. In fact, this cutscene fully showcases the graphical muscle it brings, with extreme attention to detail and visual effects, coupled with technically impressive audio. After this sequence, the player finds themselves guiding the engineer through the doors of the USG Ishimura, a massive galactic spacecraft dedicated to mining giant stars.

    LOST IN SPACE-SHIP:
By now, the gaming industry has accustomed us to seeing great remakes adding a couple, or even no new mechanics compared to the originals. Fortunately, Dead Space doesn't disappoint in this regard either. Several sections have been updated and modified to provide a different experience even for those who have played the original. One significant mechanic that has significantly changed the approach to certain areas is the energy convoy system. This allows the player to redirect energy to specific structures such as elevators or doors at the expense of life support systems or, even worse, lights. This obviously adds more variety compared to Dead Space's typical linearity and gives the player more decision-making power. Finally, the last two major changes are the addition of more interactive objects on the map for defensive use, such as carts or pipes that can be used as spears, and the ability to explore a fully interconnected Ishimura, blocked only by security doors accessible during the story.

    THE VISIONS IMPROVED THE GRAPHIC:
It's challenging not to fall into banality when talking about a remake that has improved every single aspect of the game. The lighting has been extensively enhanced and structured to evoke different sensations such as anxiety and anguish, or tranquility and solitude. The colors, faithful in every situation, perfectly convey the feeling of being immersed in deep space. The attention to detail, whether it's the decorative posters, billboards, wall writings, or various objects found throughout the game, builds a silent narrative necessary for such a dark title. Of course, there are some minor flaws, such as the animations, which are still below par compared to the rest, and some final cutscenes that feel hastily thought out and concluded.

    SOMETHING IS COMING:
The audio department, even more than the graphics, showcases a remarkable technical level. For this title, a new 3D audio technology was used, which utilizes extremely realistic sound waves that bounce off surfaces just like in the real world. It's worth noting that you need headphones with 3D audio to fully exploit this feature, but the regular audio, which is meticulously crafted, is still impressive in its own right. Focusing on the 3D audio, it's one of the best, if not the best, on the market, and it's especially utilized to its full potential in a game like this. By using this feature, you can hear enemies climbing walls or rooftops, allowing you to predict their direction. You can hear entities approaching from walls several meters away. Not only does this make the experience smoother, but it also makes it extremely more horrifying and scary due to the unpredictability of certain sounds.

    WHY A 10? (9.5)

    PROS:
Dead Space Remake, a reproduction of an already established masterpiece, improves upon 95% of the original, offering a multitude of new mechanics and approaches, a backtracking system, and terrifying audio and visual aspects. These aspects make it feel like a new game even for those like me who have completed the first Dead Space multiple times. Additionally, it provides access to the Impossible difficulty right from the first playthrough, a brilliant choice that allows veterans to enjoy a completely balanced challenge from the start.

    CONS:
The negative aspects of this masterpiece are limited to the simple question, "Was it necessary?" This is because the original Dead Space from 2008 didn't need a remake. I believe that every fan of the saga would have appreciated a sequel or spin-off of the trilogy much more than this reproduction.

    RATINGS:
    Gameplay: 10
    Music: 10
    Story: 9.5

It will be an interesting exercise to compare this to the Resident Evil 4 remake and Metroid Prime Remastered, such stylistically or thematically similar titles released within the same quarter, as this being the first out the gate has set a high watermark early on into the year. It wins on its top tier presentation alone, and although it can sometimes feel like that's the main contributor that's modernising the experience, there's a great novelty and appeal to some of its, should we say, relics to game design of the past. Chiefly, relics that are of a focused, directed single-player experience that don't overstay their welcome and don't manipulate the player beyond the experience itself. Let's see how long that one lasts when we're drowning in remakes, shall we?
