It unfortunately delivers on it's premise to revive the late 90's horror games in all the wrong ways: The control scheme is absurd, the animations are stiff, the environments are riddled with artificial borders with terrible collision detection on top, and of course a borderline useless camera.

You are supposed to move swiftly and precisely like a gazelle, but control like a pregnant rhino with the added inability to focus your view on what's right in front of you. That clunkyness extends to the self proclaimed puzzles, a constant game of "guess what the developer was thinking and don't forget that he wouldn't spell it the way you think".

I'm normally not a grammar nazi, but it's not just typos, and the formatting of the text is also broken, which damages all the parts of the game where the fun is not already heavily sabotaged by the controls. If you want a taste, give the 9's and 10's here a read, they have the exact same spelling errors in them(...).

The overall presentation is halfway decent, but just like the story and gameplay far too forgetable to iron out the flaws. So if you read about how this is an indie game with limited budget and limited personal: Yes, I can see that, you didn't have to tell me. There are however fantastic indie devopers out there who overcame their limits by knowing them, and still coming up with well-coded AI, original storytelling, working controls and well-designed ideas, so that is not an excuse, it's an insult on top of this lukewarm mess that does not have any of those qualities.

It's a terrible copy of Resident Evil 2. Facial animations are terrible, the gameplay is repetitive, level design is dull. This game is bad in every aspect and I really mean it.

The only thing that reminds me about Resident Evil 2 in this is my final score: 2. Bad in every regard, from graphics, to animations, passing through boring storytelling and crappy mechanics. Those throwbacks to the 90s that they polluted the game with are mostly annoying and really lazy texture jobs.
If you are a fan of Survival Horror games from that era, Daymare is not what you're

If you are a fan of Survival Horror games from that era, Daymare is not what you're looking for. It's probably not what you're looking for in any case, since it's so amateurish, poorly designed, and unpolished that you'd want to stay away from it in either case.
Also all 10 reviews are clearly fake, should probably be removed or buried down the actual score that this game deserves.

(I'm going to ignore the fact that the developers have clearly made accounts to put up the review score of the game and just focus on the game)
This game falls flat on a few issues and it is clearly shown after an hour of game play.
Pros: Gun-play feels good (mostly, we'll get back to that) and works pretty well. Sound Design is pretty good in terms of shooting and zombies. Well

    Pros:
Gun-play feels good (mostly, we'll get back to that) and works pretty well.
Sound Design is pretty good in terms of shooting and zombies. Well done.
Music fits theme of the game in the dark environment it is meant to fit
Surprisingly has a decent story which is sadly ruined by something else.
Some of the notes you can find have decent righting.

    Cons:
Controls are pretty clunky and the guns don't really provide much satisfactions when firing in terms of the controls.
Voice acting is pretty bad in terms grammar and sound. It really ruins the story
Dialogue made by the characters is Japanese translated to English by a bad translator kind of bad. The delivery of line is just plain awful.
Levels are linear. Forever expanding hallways that don't really change at all throughout the story.
Directional sound for headsets is quite bad. It's mostly centred, which makes finding what caused the sound pretty difficult.
Writing for some parts of the game is quite...questionable.
Doesn't have a "unique" style and the human faces look like wrinkly messes. They are not pleasing to look at.

To conclude - The story and the gun-play is a big plus for the game. The music design really does well in terms of setting the scene, however everything else falls flat and ruins the rest of it. There is just too much bad compared to the good.
The bad voice acting, the clunky controls, linear level design etc.. just ruins the rest of the game. I honestly couldn't finish the game because it was feeling like a "job" to play it. It's not horrible, I see some good in the game, but sadly it seems like it needed more time in the oven.

This game is just not worth it. You can play the real thing instead of this supposedly RE clone. Your character run kind of slow and runs out of stamina easily and there is no evade button like in RE2 Remake.

Also in some sections you have like two or three strong zombies altogether. You have to beat them in order to access the puzzle and then and only then you can go forward. So you can't run too fast and you have to fill the bullet sponges with ammos that are scarce already and your melee does almost no damage to them. And you don't have other weapons you can use like grenades, etc that are available in RE2. So it's a crap fest filled with re-loads, re-tries but you inevitably ends up with not enough bullets to kill your enemies and gets frustrated.

Terrible controls. The walk is unnecessary and slow. Those who made this game are clearly no players themselves. After 1 hour, I gave up.

    The 10 / 10, 9 / 10 reviews are clearly paid and I really mean it.

By far the worst game I've ever played in my life. A full of bugs and glitches piece of **** game, which are not only visual but in many cases game breaking, for example, once I got stuck in a computer and I had to reload my latest save making me go back like 15 minutes ago. That is the main problem whenever there is a game breaking bug, of which, there are dozens, you have to go back to your latest save which was probably a long time ago making it really tedious to play the game (You can save game in some computers on the game like in Resident Evil but for some retarded reason you can NEVER use those saves, the developers of this game are some lazy pieces of **** luckily I didn't pay them for it). Aside from bugs and glitches, the character models sucks together with the lypsinc, whenever there was a cinematic I felt like I was playing the last Mass Effect of how poorly animated and synced it was. Not only this, the story is boring as hell too, a **** cliche, all the characters are boring flat ass character that don't develop at all. The movement is no good either, in a game where you are supposed to move like a gazelle this game's poor development forces you to move like a **** rhino. Finally this game confuses difficulty with enemies that are bullet sponges *cough* The Division *cough* and retarded puzzles which 80% of the time don't make sense and force you to look them up online. There's one where you need to write a code by using a Greek alphabet keyboard and comparing it to yours and because my keyboard key layout is different I had to look it up online. Or another one where red mean that something is turned on? wtf. Expand

Daymare 1998 successfully emulates everything the Resident Evil formula does. In fact, playing it right after Resident Evil 3 Remake I have had a very similar sensation in the playable. If you are a genre lover it is a required title, a Resident Evil can call it. Daymare 1998 is worth playing for its history, its puzzles, and the design of its levels. However, despite trying, we did not manage to bring anything new to the genre and we faced economic limitations in its development. It would be desirable to see a sequel with a bigger budget that allows the people of Invader Studio to unleash their talent.

Daymare 1998 looks like a vintage game. Its atmosphere reminds of some great Resident Evil vibes, but we would have more risk taking, because the general proposition deeply lacks identity to pay homage to the series created by Shinji Mikami. Gameplay perhaps a little less rigid and more original ideas would have played in its favor. Nevertheless, the 90’s lovers will feel some old, dusty, but charming memories.

Daymare 1998 is at once a breath of fresh air and a spiritually genuine revisitation of survival horror's heyday, so it's no stretch to say that players new and old will find something to enjoy here.
