Sep 17, 2019Daymare: 1998 is an interesting homage to the Resident Evil franchise, complete with 90s graphics, cheesy characters, and a tough difficulty. Inventory management forces you to think carefully, while boss fights can be tedious and unfair.
-
Sep 17, 2019Daymare: 1998 is a great take on the Resident Evil formula. If you’re looking for RE8, you will end up being disappointed, but if you expect an indie horror adventure, you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
-
Sep 30, 2019Daymare: 1998 is an unapologetic love letter to horror games of the 90's and especially the Resident Evil series. It may be janky and tough at times, which is likely to put off newcomers, but it will have a certain appeal to the fans of the genre.
-
Sep 17, 2019Daymare: 1998 is the Resident Evil no one has asked, but that every survival horror fan will love to play.
-
Oct 2, 2019Daymare: 1998 is a hardcore survival horror purposely created by fans, for fans. Despite some technical flaws and hiccups, typical of independent productions, it recreates the atmosphere of the old school gems.

Apr 30, 2020Daymare 1998 successfully emulates everything the Resident Evil formula does. In fact, playing it right after Resident Evil 3 Remake I have had a very similar sensation in the playable. If you are a genre lover it is a required title, a Resident Evil can call it. Daymare 1998 is worth playing for its history, its puzzles, and the design of its levels. However, despite trying, we did not manage to bring anything new to the genre and we faced economic limitations in its development. It would be desirable to see a sequel with a bigger budget that allows the people of Invader Studio to unleash their talent.
-
Sep 17, 2019Considering the limited budget and labor force, Daymare 1998 is beyond doubt an incredible job carried out by an Italian team as passionate as it is talented. One wonders, though, if a similar project could shine its own light or is destined to remain a satellite of Capcom's famous horror saga, given how the very heavy all-round inspiration is often accompanied by a mediocre polishing and balancing of the gameplay.
-
Sep 17, 2019If you are passionate about this kind of "old school" experience, we can however assure you that, despite everything, Keen Sight will be able to offer you some pleasant thrills with a nostalgic aftertaste.
-
Sep 17, 2019Daymare: 1998 could have been a good survival horror but the flaws surpass the merits. Nonetheless, the team has put some nice efforts into it.
-
Jan 29, 2020Daymare 1998 looks like a vintage game. Its atmosphere reminds of some great Resident Evil vibes, but we would have more risk taking, because the general proposition deeply lacks identity to pay homage to the series created by Shinji Mikami. Gameplay perhaps a little less rigid and more original ideas would have played in its favor. Nevertheless, the 90’s lovers will feel some old, dusty, but charming memories.
-
Sep 17, 2019Daymare: 1998 is Invader Studios' labor of love. It's not perfect by any means, but it can be a nice experience for every true fan of the genre that can stand its little missteps.
-
Oct 14, 2019Daymare 1998 is at once a breath of fresh air and a spiritually genuine revisitation of survival horror's heyday, so it's no stretch to say that players new and old will find something to enjoy here.
-
Sep 26, 2019I would certainly recommend this game to fans of the early Resident Evil games but if you aren’t a fan of those games I could see it getting old fast, as most of the “nostalgia” of the game consists of dated mechanics in combat and puzzle solving.
-
Sep 18, 2019Daymare: 1998 feels like going back to visit a friend from school who still lives a youthful life free of responsibility. It's fun for a while, but you eventually realise that there is a reason you left that lifestyle behind. Were this released before Capcom's own Resident Evil 2 remake, its issues might not have been so apparent. Oddly stranded in time, this now feels too clunky for newcomers and is one for genre aficionados interested in the evolution of survival horror.
-
Sep 17, 2019Daymare 1998 feels like Resident Evil 2’s demo having a sequel. Invader Studios is reciting its lesson but the team hasn’t added anything new to what we already knew.
-
Sep 17, 2019I’d still recommend this game if good world-building, easter-egg hunting and puzzles are what you are looking for in survival horror titles because those elements are fantastic. But beware, as clunky mechanics and repetitive design definitely drag things down, Still, Daymare 1998 is an ambitious first game from the young Invader Studios that showcases their immense potential, and I wish them nothing but the best for what’s to come.
-
Sep 17, 2019Daymare 1998 is a mediocre experience in most areas. however, someone who likes old survival horrors from the 90s may enjoy it. at least, I enjoyed the puzzles solving in the game.
-
Sep 19, 2019Accompanying the hideous inventory and tedious combat systems is the unforgiveable control scheme, which can’t be remapped at all. Overall, it feels like each of these are intentional choices to help solidify the ‘90s horror vibe it goes for, but just because something is purposely bad doesn’t actually make it good. Game design has progressed a lot in two decades, and Daymare is at odds with what it wants to achieve.
-
Sep 17, 2019Daymare 1998 is a competent survival horror game that borrows too heavily from its influences to do anything interesting or unique and thus suffers from poor writing and uninspired gameplay.
-
Sep 17, 2019Daymare: 1998 succeeds at recreating the classic feel of late 90's survival horror, but in more ways than it should. The game is cumbersome and frustrating at times when more modern takes have smoothed over those particular rough edges.
-
Sep 26, 2019By taking elements of iconic 90’s horror staples, Invader Studios have resurrected a Frankensteined horror experience that is far less than it’s borrowed parts. From the glacial pacing to the ponderous in-game action Daymare 1998 rather than invoking terror instead delivers tedium.
-
Sep 18, 2019Daymare 1998 is meant to be a blast from the past but all it really does is destroy your old memories of those 90s horror games you played so long ago.
