    Easily a 10/10. I went in thinking that it would be horrible like Half-Life: Source. I played the original game first and I loved it. When I tried this version, I knew it was better than the original. The bad things in the original were the UI and jumping taking up most of your stamina. This fixed those and had better graphics. Best WWII multiplayer game.

    I am angry to myself why i find this game to late. Its great game. dod_strand, dod_donner are graet maps of this game.

    Do you want a historically accurate FPS with a fan base? Try this gem out. The game is fast and precise, but feels like a husk of a game. No campaign, only 2 sides, and a couple maps. But for 10 bucks, i would recommend. Absolute steal on sale.

    It's great semi-realistic online multi-player. The graphics are good considering it's age. The game-play is great and the maps are awesome. The game does lack activity, but there are enough servers to keep it going. The game is pretty hard to get into because the players who are left are more or less pros, so you can expect a rough start if you are not used to fps games

The smoothness of the gameplay, the lack of stupid unlocks and P2W purchasables is really rare these days. The fact that Source engine still looks great after 10+ years is giving the game nice graphical output. MultiplayerAlmost a perfect multiplayer game.     Many server mods are terrible, just like any games on the source engine. A bunch of screaming 12-years old bossing around. But that doesn't take much away from game-play. After seven years, it's still an amazing game, featuring many game modes and variety, balanced classes, fantastic graphics. Anyone can mod the game, which is another terrific feature.

    Highly recommended, if you're into    Many server mods are terrible, just like any games on the source engine. A bunch of screaming 12-years old bossing around. Every weapon in this game(For the special classes like bazooka, MG, Sniper) is terribly overpowered in the range department, so if one team gets the classes in a vantage point, you basically have the game. The other team has fun trying desperately to move from cover to cover while the mg rips through their team, killing a person every second. The snipers and killing no matter where they hit, and the bazooka is blowing up clumps of guys hanging back because it's accurate to like 125m. The other classes are basically the same with 2 minor stat changes. There's not "teamwork" here. It's one team slaughtering the other team, but nobody helps each other out. The MG's set up camp and just rip through the entire enemy army, the snipers dodging and weaving the desperate shots of the people stuck playing normal class as they get destroyed by the snipers, the bazooka smoking out groups of 3 guys then pulling out his secondary which does way too much damage and blasts them away from the safety of his building.
    This game never ends fair. Within 3 mins one team is always on top, and it stays like that the whole game, mainly because of how utterly godlike your team becomes after you get the vantage point.    … Expand

    Perfect Game teamplay & ambiance, lovely community, great shooter! There are beautiful communitymaps out there, skins and mods like in CSS. You need to play it more than 2h to get a real impression of the game.

    Still fun to this day. As opposed to a lot of the "Play to unlock" or even "Pay to win" titles, this is a pure, balanced world war 2 shooter with no messing about,.

    There is only one server in my region with a decent ping that plays some, but not all official maps. Tense and exciting moments are rare, with very little happening to create interesting engagements between the teams. Even with the mildly realistic gun physics, the kills are seldom satisfying.

    I like the fast gameplay and the unique weapon rebound in this game! Compared to other ww2 games (like cod) dods requires a bit more skill to aim right.

    Hope that Valve bring out a new DOD when they release HL3.

    Hearing bullets wiz past your head as you hear the crackle of machine gun fire in the background is something that I have yet to experience in any game.

    I don't really like Source, weapons feel different, no wall shooting, too much interactive maps, no stopsound, and a terrible audio engine, you can never understand where enemy is. They took all the most challenging and cool things of 1.3 and downed them. Not a good successor.

    One of my least favorite valve games. The classes are my main issue, the bazooka is actually designed for anti-infantry use and its way to overpowered, just get a few mediocre snipers, a bazooka and a MG in the vantage point and you have the game. The textures are low-res, the maps are medium at best, the two classed you actually get to play are almost the same, one with more power and oneOne of my least favorite valve games.     This game is ultra-realistic, the soldier's chats are incredible and the weapons are really good, with the real characteristics. I'ts nice, I strongly recommend this game to the WWII fans. But theres one thing I hate... the teamwork. If you're lucky and find good players, you'll enjoy a lot, but if you find rushers... mmm. Rated 10/10 for a real-nice game!

    Halfway between CS:S & TF2 in terms of gameplay, this was a stepping stone for me into the latter. It had it's time and place but the devs stopped updating it for a long time and then added achievements for whatever reason. Better WWII and team-based games have been released since so look elsewhere for your FPS needs.

The skill curve is high and newbies will find it frustrating dying from experienced players who can anticipate player movement through a map and kill with indirect shots via bullet penetration through walls or well timed grenades.     Much like CS:S this is a faithful recreation of a HL1 mod, redesigned with the care and attention to detail it deserved. Valve didn't keep the British army in, but the core gameplay is the same. It's tense, although not very exciting. You get killed easily, respawn quickly, and never give up attacking.

    A good world war 2 first person shooter built round the source engine.Perfectly captures that ww2 feel,the weapons,the clothing,the maps.Really enjoyed this one and will do so for many years.

    I never really liked Day of Defeat because there were a whole lot of WWII games that were released around the same time that did things so much better. The Source version doesn't feel like a vast improvement over the original game, but surprisingly you can still find an occasional populated server. I suppose if you need some basic old school WWII combat, this can fit the bill.

    Right next to counter strike for source mod goodness. Though feeling somewhat dated, the game still has its moments. The community is still very active as well. Custom map support, blahblah, everything you get for being a source game released by valve!

    The best WW2 multiplayer game. I dont see why people dont like this. It has what do you espect in a game like this: realistic gameplay, great environments, great gameplay, doesnt take to much time to load, doesnt wait until the round finishes like CSS, good graphics for its time and the community is great and friendly. I dont see any failure, a perfect 10.

There's classes and it requires team work but unlike TF2 there is skill in aiming and shooting and there's lots of recoil. The gameplay can be addicting, but it's nothing special, though.     I am addicted to this game! Spend great hours and nights playing this great WWII game. Felt like playing with a family in a well balanced game with awesome maps and great weapons.

    There isn't much to say about this game really. Fast paced FPS at it's most simple level. Feels like one of the older MoH games but with a tad nicer graphics. Not alot of maps or other content but for the cheap price at which it can be bought, it shouldn't come as a big surprise.

Outstanding graphics for 2005 - still good enough in 2011 that their antiquity isn't noticeable unless someone's exploiting a glitch. Great gaming community with helpful veterans.     Day of Defeat is a brilliant game and deserves all the praise it can get. Having played this game for a few years with my friends and having only recently bought it I would say job well done! I prefer this to CounterStrike as you have intense battles which could go on for 30 minutes unlike sitting waiting for your team to win. This game provides action from the start. All people do in this game is camp in corners, so it is the exact same thing as CoD2.     i think for a game that was made quite a while ago, it is pretty good. if there was one thing i would have to look down upon, it would be the fact that you cant customize you own weapons. other than that, two thumbs up! ;)

Then I tried CS:S for a while, only to conclude that it is simply a broken game: Barely any strategy going on, dominated by aim grunts and rather backward balancing (better players get more weapons and armor?!).     The best game I ever played. Ultra realistic and very nice looking. I play for 3 years now and I can't get bored. I recommend this game to every WW2 games fan.

    People that compare this to newer WWII games are doing it wrong. If a new WWII game isn't better than I wouldn't rate it [the new one] very high at all. For its time DoD is very good. Like Counter-Strike there is a small learning curve and there seems to be a bit of a botting problem but not too serious. But its the multiplayer that sets it aside from games like killzone and even its predecessor. It has a plethora of game modes, guns, equipment and perks.     This game is the worst WWII game ever! Its not realistic at all. Some of the people who rated this 5 or up should try Red Orchestra! Red Orchestra is basically a simulation game. Its graphics are great and it has good, realistic gameplay. The only problem is the NPCs are kind-of messed up. But I do not recommend DoD:S at all. Crappy graphics AND gameplay.

    I have play this game before Simon. And I say that this is a solid and awesome game. The poor collision? The game is very well done and you should be ashmed. Anyway the graphicis a great the glare is more realistic and it only took like what about an hour to download on my type of computer.     It's a very good game with good graphics. The best thing about the game is the accuracy of the weopons unlike any other shooter game u cant just take your handgun and shoot someone 5 miles away in the head the accuracy is much more realistic than other games.

    This game is one of the best WWII shooter games I've ever played. The multiplayer is amazing and smooth, the weapons are great and you will actually want to be on the german Wehrmacht team.

The killing is very addictive, and hearing and seeking an enemies helmet pop off is great. But the only disappointment was that there is too few content in it, with only 6 maps, and fewer classes then the Original Day of Defeat. A Well, the game itself is good, great graphics, sound and the germans actual Speak GERMAN, not like those crappy german accents some games put, how cool is that! The killing is very addictive, and hearing and seeking an enemies helmet pop off is great. But the only disappointment was that there is too few content in it, with only 6 maps, and fewer classes then the Original Day of Defeat. A lot less variety and chose, I wish Valve could of atleast added all the original content from the old Day of Defeat, (all the guns, maps, and classes) and I even expected new content since most new games offer more then the original. It kinda even feels like a downgrade, less maps, less guns, and the Classes have been screwed up. The game feels as if Valve just enhanced the graphics and Source added to DoD and make money off of it cheaply. But other then decreased amount of guns, content, and maps, this game is fun. The items and stuff laying on the map can sometimes be troublesome, and not cool with physics, because sometimes they do get in your way. Rating Total 8.3 Visuals: 9.2 out of 10. DOD is certainly different from many Valve's online shooters in that you have to physically move your mouse down to suppress the recoil.     Random and sudden spawning enemies, weak weapons, poor collision, failed game mechanics (no value to actually jumping in) and misguided intent. this is a poor ww2 game even compared to cheap mill shooters i have actually played through. aside from good graphics and nice sounds, this is a waste of time and money. not all that glitters is gold, and this cheap game proves that.

    While most people are sick of, and/or gettting sick of World War II games, I cannot get enough of them. If I were to have to choose between Counter-Strike: Source and this, I would pick this. If I were to pick between the singleplayer portions of Call of Duty 4 or Call of Duty: World at War, I would pick World at War. Same goes for Call of Duty's 2 and 3 (4 wins for multiplayer).     this is one of the best fps online and the community is freandly..... but the only reason i gave it 9/10 is because valve keeps on cangeing things but if thay did one big update to give us more wepons and skins and then it would get 10/10 from me

    This game takes every I liked about the original and rips it all out. Instead of a tense, methodical WW2 game with balanced weapons, it's just a run and gun shooter where players move inhumanly fast and shoot bazookas like the rocket launchers in quake. Worth some fun, but it gets a zero in my book for ruining such a fun, unique game.

Yes, it looks better and has a physics engine, but there is actually less variety in classes (wow, atleast keep it the same) and the whole game feels kind of bloated and jumpy. Movement is unrealistic and the ironsights feature on the rifles is just not what DOD was about. If you want ironsights, play COD (which II really enjoyed the original, but this game feels like it falls short.     The game is very addicting. I think it was heavily influenced by the movie "Saving Private Ryan" in the way it sounds and feels. The physics of the game, the distant gunshot sounds, the shellshock that you get after a grenade goes off near you, the historical accuracy of the weapons (you can't get a headshot with a handgun standing 100 ft away like you can in other WWII shooters), The game is very addicting.     I think this game is way too hard.I join a server,pick my class and i would be running for about 10 seconds and i get shot.Theres no teamwork involved.The way i saw this was that everyone was just running around shooting eachother.Only buy this if you are amazing at first person shooters because i think you will be fighting alot of nerds.

    Well I loved the original, more that any other game I played. While this version looks better, I`m afraid it doesn`t do it for me. It`s all run and gun, no strategy like the original. Plays more like unreal tornament than a WW II game in my opinion.

This game is more dynamic than CS. It has classes, quality voice commands, amazing sound effects, prone and other stuff. Unlike CS, this game actually involves team work to progress and the weapons recoil is much more realistic which you have to learn to control. If anything CS is less dynamic out of the two. Don't get me wrong, CS:Source is equally an awesome game (both are addictive and good value for money) but CS is definitely the 'simpler' one out of the two as both T & CT are practically identical with the exception of a few weapons and both use the same voice commands. That's not much variety. Either way if you don't like this game then maybe you just don't like the WW2 theme. You shouldn't really compare the two because they're different games so overall while I said all that stuff above, they're both great games and since this review is for DoD I'll say that it's one the best games to buy. Oh and Anga how can you possibly refund the game since the game is bought on Steam. You can't...so maybe you're pretending you played it.… Expand

    Had the game for the last 3 days, take a arm and a leg to download, and realize that game is over rated. If you think this Day of Defeat is as good as CS, let me tell you it effectively isn't.     Love the Source phyics and the fast-paced gameplay. But I need iron sights for all weapons as well as other gametypes (eg TDM, DM, CTF).

    Great game, but I'd love to see the British team again, maybe you could add a sovjet team as well and add some new maps, would be great for the game to get 2 new teams to choose.

    I gave dod 10 in rating bot only 6 to dods why..? because of the weapons, i would like if u made it more lige the old where there are many more weapons to chose between.

    This is the best game ever made, although I am not so sure about the update. It has great graphics, and a great gameplay. I hope you all enjoy this game as much as I do!

    This game rocks! I am a World War fan, and I am quite happy with this game... some weapons may be a bit inacurite but who am I to be picky? For some reson, I find this game to be easy for me.....maby it's because this game has gamemodes that I know.....like capture the flag or team deathmatch, but I do miss the old css surfing maps =~D (I wish some serverds would use them in DoD:S)

    It actually feels like they took a step back from the original DoD with this one. Apart from the updated graphics and physics engine, there really isn't anything that is done better than the original which is kind of disappointing. Unlike CS:S where the graphics and gameplay was made better, DoD:S doesn't feel all that great. The gun models are also a step backward and they actually look really bland with almost no textures. The weapons in CS:S look much better than the original but with DoD:S, they look worse. There's less guns than the original as well. I really don't know why they changed it so much (in a bad way). They really haven't added to this game gameplay wise....they've only taken stuff away which has me scratching my head.… Expand

    Graphics were good but game-play is less then stellar. I don't understand why you only get iron sights for only one class per team.... Either give every weapon iron sights or none of them. The original is far better despite its outdated visuals.

Not a problem, though, if you play on an "Orange Map" server. All custom. On the other hand, the guns are realistically inaccurate, which means you can't snipe someone with the Thompson that is more than 3 meters away. At least This is a great game, all around.     Good graphics, and amazing fun. Find the right server, and you can have loads of fun on user created content. Balanced classes and limitations keep the game fun and flowing. Does suffer a bit from repetitiveness and overpowered weapons. Could definitely use some updates to balance those, but still great fun.

    Best FPS game out there, easy to learn and very enjoyable to play. Lots of servers to play in. No monthly fees, very cheap. May not be accurate as other newer FPS simulation wise but hey it is a GAME!

    This is one of the best FPSs i have ever played i love the hearing the sound of bullets wizz past you while your sprinting to try and take a flag and not die.

    I expect to be playing DoD a lot more than "Couterstrike: Source"... I recommend DoD:S to the multiplayer action crowd, but don't come crying to me when things start getting stale.

    While the game still needs some patching, and is unfortunately not DoD as we know it, this is still an absolutely fantastic package; those after a new multiplayer shooter can’t really go wrong with this one. Oh, and expect this score to go up over time as Valve patches out various problems.
