This is terrible. Best Buy made a mistake and I went through Hell to get this game. Only to get a broken game. They KNEW they had a bad, broken game, but decided embargo and only allow high end PC footage to be released. This makes Bethesda seem like a solid game company. CDPR have most all of my trust which was a lot. This is a cash grab, plain and simple. Getting a refund. Don’t buy unless you have next gen (but still don’t mind bugs) or a very good PC. Expand

Also on computer this game is rubbish. Ignore the blinded fanatics. the gameplay is atrocious, artificial intelligence is inexistent, driving a car is a most boring task and the icing on the cake is the infinite number of bugs and glitch. not even the most powerful computer in NASA fixes the number of errors it has.

Had to reload scene in the club because i chose wrong person. Interactions cross each other sometimes. One button can mean 2 or even 3 things at the same time for example skip scene and answer a question somehow. Same for C button when you want to skip dialogue but it makes you crouch. Neone style doesn't make it feel cyberpunk at all. It just feels like fat lady sexual fantasy to be honest. FPS drops down a lot. Raytracing? In your 2060 rtx dreams. Feels more like borderlands 3 + Far cry new dawn or sleeping dogs legion. If it was 3rd person i'd not even notice a difference. After 3 hours of play time i felt extremely dizzy. I still feel like i'm about to puke and it lasted for 2 hours already. I don't know how graphics of videogame could cause it, the last time that only happened when i was playing Oculus DK2 VR. There's something deeply disturbing about this game. I do not recommend to anyone. Expand

Pretty average game tbh, but ultimately ruined by some of the most obvious, in your face bugs I've ever seen and graphics that don't justify its horrendous performance. I can't believe reviewer's give it 100 when they say bugs will be "fixable". You can't assume it's gonna get fixed at all, how rediculous.

I finished all the Witchers, I played Gwent and Thronebreaker. Cyberpunk 2077 is the biggest failure of "professional critics" that ever happened in the VG industry. This game is simply not finished (to be kind). The city looks completely dead with one of the worst AI of the decade (or maybe of the last two decades). Hordes of lifeless mannqueins are invading the streets crashing into you with no facial expressions and with a very few BAD movesets. The traffic is embarassing, not only because of the, again, emabrassing AI, but because it's completely inaccurate for a big metropolis like Nigh City: the most of the times you can find 2 or 3 cars on the streets. Once I saw a video of a lifeless very big city built by the chinese gov in Africa, that's the closest thing that Night City reminds me. If accidentally you leave your car somewhere near the road you'll cause the block of the entire road like in GTA Vice City. The game is also repetitive, the feedback of the shooting is ok while the melee one is very bad, like the Skyrim one 10 years ago. The driving experience is one of the worst ever regarding free roaming games. The interactions you can have in the city are very few ad again, no car, no interactions and very bad AI give you the impression of living in something that is not finished, something fake. Just a banal thing, but let you understand the level of immersion: there is no way to edit your hair or makeup in game after you created the character, not even a shop in the entire city. The creation itself is made with a standard editor which is not revolutionary at all, I'm not negative or positive regarding this last one. The problem is not that is just a bad (or unfinished) game, but that is also FULL of bugs that are heavily undermining the game experience and the immersion (...). One funny thing about this one: A friend of mine the day of the launch is telling me I could encounter a bug of my character with his p***s outside of his pants in the menu because of a glitch. And yes, of course I wait 8 years for a game, I buy it and I experience this bug, I have my p***s outside of my pants, but I thought "ok, who cares, they're gonna fix this". The list of bugs I encountered is long and luckily I didn't encounter all the bugs I saw online. A few bugs I encountered: NPCs getting stuck, character is naked in some scenes while he shouldn't, interface errors, Characters around me are disappearing and appearing again, sound is suddenly going off, errors in car visual.

I didn't have much time, so this review will be probable full of mistakes, but I wanted you to warn you. Don't believe the hype. I asked for a refund to CDProjekt and I hope and think they'll gonna listen to us. Bye!

Gunplay is seriously garbage, you can shoot people in the face repeatedly and their health bar barely moves. So gunfights end up with some enemies just being bullet sponges for you to be 2 hit killed.

Driving is a chore with the poor physics and poor AI drivers. It's so bad you end up just running or walking everywhere.

Key binds that cannt be edited leaving left handers scrambling to press F to interact etc or unable to rebind to the enter key on the keypad.

A storyline that has you being a **** why do all these games like GTA, RDR2 etc think everyone wants to be a ****?

A largle lifeless city with crap AI and poor quests. I mean you get random quests that put you into positions where you end up rage quitting at the poor gunplay balance. Or you play the main questline where practically every decision you make ends up on rails. For example know you are walking into an ambush, but you have to do it or the quest will not progress. Trigger cut scene where suddenly one shot kills everyone, yet the same gun barely caused a paper cut in the recent gunfight you just had to run away from.

The inventory is unintuitive and just a chore to work through and it's the same for the buggy Journal/quest system where you track all over the city to reahc your destination to find there was a preqrequsite they didn't tell you about in the quest description.

Then there are the random bugs that should not be making it inot final release. Like cars and other items that just float.

    Very overhyped peice of ****

Grahpically decent but certainly not close to next gen in any way.
    Gameplay is poor
    Quest/storyline is poor (subjective)
Controls and keybinding setup is poor

I simply couldn'ta take any more after maybe 7 hours of playing. I can't give this a zero but any more than 2 or 3 is generous.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is **not** an rpg. I might get called "sweaty" for this, but I'm playing through cyberpunk 2077 and it doesn't feel much like an rpg to me. It feels like it has rpg elements, but it seems to differ greatly from its tabletop namesake. Granted I'm only in the first act. Act 1 Spoilers ahead: I don't understand why there aren't any major choices that switch things up, so far. I've played through Act 1 a number of times, a number of different ways, but the results are always the same. I understand there's a bit of a linear plot they're leading up to by having Keanu Reeves nest in my brain matter. I get that. I know it is key that Keanu haunts my brain and tries to take over my psyche. But they can still give players fun choices within that narrow-as-hell railroad track and watch different scenes unfold that still lead to the same turning point. Dexter DeShawn is my example here. I've played a few different ways with Dex. I've been nice and loyal to him. I've lied to him. I've been apathetic toward him. I've outright yelled at him. Nothing changes. He still reacts to me the same. He still shoots me in the head. He still leads that Arasaka guy to my body in the landfill and gets himself shot. Why? This could have played out in so many ways. When I go to Dex's place after Jackie dies, I should, say, have the option to just kill Dex. Right? Say, we get in a fight, I shoot him, then I go into the bathroom, wash my face/punch the mirror/whatever, and as I exit, Dex's goon knocks me out (as he does anyway). Then say the goon (not Dex) shoots me and dumps me in the landfill, only to be led back there by the Arasaka guy and shot on the spot. It's the same story, but I was given more agency. So far, Cyberpunk makes me feel like I am strapped into a rollercoaster car on a one way track, rather than getting behind the wheel of a fun off-roader. I really don't understand how this game is a full fledged rpg. Or how it can railroad a player so hard through a 45 minute cut scene from the moment I'm shot in the head to the moment I wake up in Viktor's ripperdoc parlor. I do enjoy the game, but it doesn't hit me like an rpg quite does. I miss the video games where choices caused different outcomes and the player feels like they have some agency in the world. Expand

For anyone who can't be bothered to wade through all this, here's the TL;DR version: Witcher 3 must have been a fluke -- this game is a boring, half-baked, ill-conceived, technically deficient mess.

    Long version:

OK, let's start on a high note. From a technical perspective the visuals in this game are fantastic. Whether you're running it with or without raytracing the world and the characters that populate it are beautifully rendered. You'll need a decent machine to get the best out of it (even a 3080 has to fall back on VFR and dynamic resolution if you want to crank it up), but even at low settings it can produce some impressive results.

From there, though, it rapidly goes downhill...

Sticking with the visuals, while they're *technically* impressive, from an aesthetic point of view they're hard to look at. I'm not entirely sure how to describe it other than it reminds me of visiting Miami's South Beach in the 80s! It's not gritty, it's not sleek, it's just a load of visual noise assaulting the eyes, and the only thing that suggests this is "the future" is that everything has a touch panel on it.

Apart from a brief montage towards the start of the game the entire thing is presented in a first person view -- there are no cutscenes, so most of the story beats are awkwardly presented through exposition by either forcing you to sit down (resulting in something very much akin to how character interactions work in Skyrim), or by having the character that you're talking too awkwardly turn to face you as you move around. As a result the dramatic moments lack any of the impact that comes from careful pacing and direction, and as there's *soooooo* much dialogue I started skipping through it as fast as I could read the subtitles -- I could watch that scene where Geralt meets the Bloody Baron over and over again, but sitting and awkwardly staring at another character for any longer than 30 seconds starts to get tiresome after the 10th conversation, and as some of these actually drag on for several minutes I came close to switching it to "skip conversation" instead of "skip to next line".

Now on to gameplay. It's dull, dull dull dull, dull, and dull. (Also a bit dull.) In part that's because it's yet another game with a gameplay loop of "go to the place, kill the bad guys" which is getting a bit stale now, but even all the bits that *aren't* that just create new ways of being dull. For example there's a mechanic that's kind of like the souped up Detective Vision from whichever Arkham game it was that added the "investigating an area in time as well as space" thing, but it's overcomplicated and takes *forever* as you're forced to scrub backwards and forwards repeatedly, listen to long protracted bits of dialog in the reconstruction followed by interminable dialog between your character and some NPCs. Even the tutorial that introduced the mechanic was too long, and that was brief in comparison to the times you'll be doing it in-game. (On the other hand there's a hacking minigame that wasn't really explained at all, and I'm just "solving" them by trial and error.)

Combat is... fine, I guess. Not sure how it feels on console, but using a controller on PC is unpleasant experience; when you're looking down your weapon's sight there's a sort of "acceleration" to aiming that I could never get the hang of -- adjusting some of the sensitivity sliders helped a bit, but in the end I had to go keyboard and mouse. Fine at a desk, less useful if I'm sitting on the sofa playing on the TV.

There's also stealth and a "hack the devices" business so you can avoid a lot of combat, but it somehow manages to be overly simplistic as well as needlessly complicated. There's not a lot of hacking options available but pulling them off is fiddly, and attempting to make it easier by stacking your skill points into the appropriate area of the skill tree is a bad idea as some combat is unavoidable, and it's usually against a "boss" that you'll struggle with if you've not invested in your combat skills.

Now bugs. Lots of bugs. Some are minor -- random NPCs with weird pathing or that just spawn a few feet in front of you is distracting enough, but I've had to replay several missions multiple times because of glitches; my character has T-posed and teleported hundreds of meters outside the mission area with no way of getting back in, progression-essential NPCs have got stuck on world geometry, objectives have just failed to update, and I've had more than one crash. (And *every* time I close the game it crashes.)

I've stopped playing for the day, and I'll be honest: I don't know if I'm going to bother playing any more. It's got all the bugs and awkward "cinematics" of Skyrim, the hacking and stealth feels like a poor knockoff of Watchdogs, it burns my retinas with the gold lamé and dayglo aesthetic, it's buggy and needs a lot of polish, and most importantly it's just not fun to play.

I will start with what they did right here: The story is great, truly CD Projekt Red material, the map looks really like a large and vertical city, you can look up and see those holographic billboards and megastructures and yes it looks fantastic, since I'm reviewing the PC copy, performance looks allright, not great not terrible (medium settings, 1440p, and 30fps on a 1070). now before II will start with what they did right here: The story is great, truly CD Projekt Red material, the map looks really like a large and vertical city, you can look up and see those holographic billboards and megastructures and yes it looks fantastic, since I'm reviewing the PC copy, performance looks allright, not great not terrible (medium settings, 1440p, and 30fps on a 1070). now before I start with what happened wrong with cyberpunk 2077: yeah it's full of bugs, Bethesda level of full of bugs but this happens, it is annoying, but this can solved, a few months and a couple patches and it's good as new.

So here's the part that no simple bugfix will do and need serious overhauls:
What I can not forgive about an AAA open world title in 2020, is bad AI, and Cyberpunk 2077 one is so bad it feels completely nonexistent, people won't react to anything you do, and when they do they only crouch scared, not even trying to run, traffic is even more painful to watch: the cars only drive on rails in a painfully obvious way, you stop a car in the middle of the road, and NPCs start a line blocked by your car, no honks, no one trying to turn around, if you blow up something people will just exit their cars and crouch instead of, you know, running away using the car they are already inside. This lack of driving extends to the police, there's no police car chases, and cop NPCs will instead just spawn behind you, even GTA San Andreas was way better than this.
Also, for a RPG full of cybernetics and body modifications, the lack of character customization after creation is ironic, to say the least, you can't even change the haircut, and Witcher 3 (a game from the same studio, on same engine) had realistic growing beard and hair as well as barber shops. but thanks for letting customize genitalia and then never using it in game besides a glitch where it pops out of your pants I guess.

In summary, good story and campaign, nice aesthetic, bugs will get fixed soon, and the open world is so broken it will need a No Man's Sky level of rework to be good

The best metaphor for Cyberpunk 2077 is Johnny Silverhand himself. A messiah, a mix of Kurt Cobain and Che Guevara, a talented singer who loves to shape his own legend and has a charming personality but loses the struggle with his own demons. The same goes for the game. It tells a great story and forced me to ask myself difficult questions, but many of its gameplay mechanics do not evolve and its technical state upon release was abysmal. Cyberpunk’s true hero is not a person, but Night City – a vibrant, living creature of great diversity. The beauty of the metropolis is striking. [01/2021, p.22]

Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the most disturbing and mind-blowing RPGs in history, where every decision has a deep impact on our trail. CD Projekt RED tosses us to the center of a city filled with disgusting delights where every character deserves our attention in an immersive experience and overall, very rewarding. From the sarcastic and shadowy tone imposed by the countless scenes in the game, to the flexibility we have on the choices to face every situation that is presented, Night City is truly memorable. It’s a shame that the countless bugs spoil or diminish the impact of some resounding moments, but we are without a question, in the presence of one of the best games in 2020.

Measured against the extreme expectations, Cyberpunk 2077 can't fulfill any of them. But all in all, despite the countless small weaknesses and inconsistences, with interesting characters, great story and dialogues or the freedom concerning gameplay, CD Projekt delivers a unique and great RPG that every fan of the genre needs to play.
