Probably the buggiest production game I've ever played. It's still fun, but its remarkable that its this much of a mess, literally every 5 minutes theres npc or cars clipping through walls, missing textures, graphical artifacts, npcs forget what they were doing or stop, etc, its pretty rough.

There's just way too much going on with the game's systems, the world is super flat and looks nice, but npcs might as well just be pictures moving along. 90% of the dialog options don't change much if anything with the story. Dialog itself is super cringey teen boy material and every girl is big buxom models walking around with no clothes on.

It's still fun, but damn, they could have just made witcher 3 sci fi edition and it would have been an easy 10/10. Why change what isn't broken?

This game is a buggy and unfinished mess that frequently crashes or fails to load. Night City looks pretty from a distance, if you follow exactly the intended path, but up close and deviating from said path leaves you with a glimpse into a hollow, dead, boring world. The AI is unrealistic in the extreme, when it does exist, as it turns out there is no AI system for driving whatsoever. Every car in Night City moves on a pre-set path, and can't deviate from it for any reason. A blockage in front simply stops the car (and all cars behind it) until the blockage is cleared, and shooting at cars doesn't make people drive away, or even bring about any sort of response at all usually. The hype around this game was impossible to live up to, I acknowledge that, however, this is so far below the standards of what a modern-day open-world experience should be that it would be considered terrible if it hadn't been built up for years in advance and instead released out of the blue one day. I have played steam junkware asset flips that were more coherently constructed than this. I award it no points, and may CDPR have mercy on the devs. Expand

RPG elements are very scarce. Most of the dialogue trees are 1: go forward 2: ask one additional question. Choosing a time WHEN to say a line you have to say anyways is not playing a role. It's pushing forward a dialogue, like it's on a gameboy...

Life paths take 10 minutes to finish. Nomad path contains no nomads. Just a 5min talk to a mechanic. Then you meet up with Jackie and drive to NC.

Overall over-hyped game that tricked countless people into losing money. Horrible, horrible mess.

Other reviews keep talking about the technical issues and bugs that the game is experiencing currently. Those issues are not what concerns me, issues like these will be surely fixed by CDPR. What concerns me the most is how disappointing the game actually is. To be 100% clear, I was very sceptical about CB, what I saw from the gameplay was nothing I have never seen before, I personally did not see any innovation in the RPG genre. So I thought that there was no way I would be disappointed with the game, yet here I am writing my first ever review. After playing through the game, I can see the potential of it, I can see the potential of the story, and the overall craftmanship. What I cannot see, is the RP in RPG. If this was just a FPS then fine, but this is not just an FPS, this is an RPG. And I feel disappointed by how shallow the RP is.
As I already stated, I did not have high expectations, but I at least expected an above average RPG, but I do not consider CB to be above average when it comes to the RPG aspects. Skill tree is disappointing, there is very little actual "Skill" in it, just stat boosters.
NPCs are straight up terrible, terrible AI which is even NONEXISTENT at times, like drivers for example. None of the NPCs feel alive, none of them feel like actual people, which is the main purpose of NPCs. The actual characters that you get to meat are great, no complaint there, but the average Joe walking around Night City is just a lifeless corpse. There is absolutely no comparison between the NPCs here, and NPCs in GTA V or even Witcher 3.
Romance is another big part of RPGs for some people, and it is disappointing in CB. Romance options are locked to your gender and sexual orientation. Romance dialogue feels way more forced and artificial than in the Wither 3 for example.
As I already stated multiple times, I did not expect CB to be a masterpiece, I even expected it to be "only" above average. But there is nothing that CB excels at other than the art, the world and maybe the story. Everything else is average at best.
Add to that all the issues with marketing, bugs, performance and you get a below average RPG. I would love to have a decent RPG in the world of Cyber Punk, but if even CDPR did no manage to do it, then I do not who will sadly. Bugs and performance will probably get fixed, but CB has issues deep down that are probably always going to be disappointing, at least to me.

Really disappointing; Extremely buggy. Deceitful marketing.
Even if the game gets fixed, the gameplay and world have been done better before in other games. At best, it's shallow with just a few redeeming qualities if the story or writing clicks with you, which it didn't for me. Without bugs and the outright lies in the marketing, it could be a 5/10 or 6/10 for me, but that's not the game

The gunplay is questionable but not very bad. It's definitely not a chore but if you're looking for an amazing time shooting guns, don't think you'll find that here. The AI, on the other hand is kinda abysmal. Half the time they know your place by heart and the other half the time they're frozen in time, looking at a wall trying to figure out whether they've turned off the stove in the morning or not for about 15 seconds.

The performance is quite bad and the visuals have nothing to justify for it. I know it's a next gen game but the textures etc are not as clean as some older games out there. The effects, the same.

I was expecting performance problems and bugs so when I paid the amount I did, I did it while expecting these. As long as I didn't have many crashes, a decent story with good characters, great world building and good combat, I'd be down with anything. Aside from combat and the AI, I think I got what I expected.

TL&DR: Game got problems, certainly not as bad as other people make it out to be. If you're gaming for more than 10 years and you're still extremely hyped up about games without expecting any trouble on launch, then you will always feel disappointed.

Some minor bugs like floating objects (for example if a character is speaking with a mobile phone, the phone get floating the air).

Game is awesome and is being punished by the hype and unrealistic expectations. People choose to fool themselves and blame the devs.

I trust CD Projekt to fix the game-breaking bugs in time. I realise that the marketing got a little carried away with the hype train, but as far as I've seen they didn't lie. That said, they should really have toned down it down. People seem to have been expecting a huge generation leap instead of a solid, if somewhat buggy, game.

The story is brilliant. As is the acting and dialogue. Though the first few hours might have some disagreeing. The game really picks up once you reach 'The Heist' mission. And it's one hell of a journey.

I hope to see some form of outfit customisation and a barber in future patches.

Most of the bugs I experienced were in the first hour and a half of the game. Other then that the game has been preforming pretty well and this is before the first patch that just came out today on the 11th. I find the story very enjoyable and I would say it's very compelling, I care about the characters in this game and really feel the struggle of the main protagonist V as they make their way through the main story. The world feels very immersive and I find myself just living in this world and taking everything in. Visually the game looks incredible but there are definitely some optimization issues that need fixed, the hardware requirements for this game seem to be insane but with my gtx 1080 I can run the game on the high preset with textures on medium at 1440p with no performance issues and the game looks very good. With all the bright lights I definitely get some eye strain after a few hours of playing, though I'm wondering if some of the filters might help with this. the shooting in the game is better then I was expecting based on what everyone who reviewed it said, I would say it's better then fallout 4 in a lot of ways but in no way is this game a first person shooter. It is an open world rpg so don't expect anything else. The driving didn't bother me personally I think it takes a little getting use to but after a while I really didn't have any trouble at all.
My biggest issue with the game is the way all the side missions just constantly flood in you will be getting phone calls consistently for like a good 15 or 20 mins after the intro play randomly as you play the game. I feel like there is a better way to filter them in. There is still a ton for me to explore in this game and I can't wait. I'm 11 hours in so far and I can't wait to get back to playing it. With the bugs in place it's still worth the $60 in my opinion I'm having a ton of fun playing it.

What an unfortunate turn of events, CDPR really dropped the ball here and should have persuaded their overheads and shareholders that a release this year with this game in its current state would tarnish their reputation and leave a bad taste in the mouths of their consumer's. The game wasn't ready. Save your money and wait until the game is fully polished.

    • The graphics are just OK. It doesn't come close to a game such as RDR2. Heck, at times I even think Witcher 3 looks better.
    • NPC's don't feel alive.. they're like puppets. You can literally jump on top of their heads or run into them full speed in the middle of a night club and they will act like you're not even there.
    • There are so many things to loot, so you quickly stop noticing what you're picking up. It's becomes a chore.
    • Driving doesn't feel very "impactful" and crashing your car feels somehow "soft".
    • Combat is so far pretty average and the enemy AI leaves a lot left to be desired.
    • It feels like there's not much point to exploration outside of the missions. I've tried to roam around without a purpose and it was honestly quite hard to find something to do besides looking at the scenery.
    • Too many passive skills in the skill tree. I'm missing skills that changes how you approach combat in a meaningful way.

I'll keep working on this list as I continue with the game. Hopefully there will be more positives to report.

For anyone who can't be bothered to wade through all this, here's the TL;DR version: Witcher 3 must have been a fluke -- this game is a boring, half-baked, ill-conceived, technically deficient mess.

    Long version:

OK, let's start on a high note. From a technical perspective the visuals in this game are fantastic. Whether you're running it with or without raytracing the world and the characters that populate it are beautifully rendered. You'll need a decent machine to get the best out of it (even a 3080 has to fall back on VFR and dynamic resolution if you want to crank it up), but even at low settings it can produce some impressive results.

From there, though, it rapidly goes downhill...

Sticking with the visuals, while they're *technically* impressive, from an aesthetic point of view they're hard to look at. I'm not entirely sure how to describe it other than it reminds me of visiting Miami's South Beach in the 80s! It's not gritty, it's not sleek, it's just a load of visual noise assaulting the eyes, and the only thing that suggests this is "the future" is that everything has a touch panel on it.

Apart from a brief montage towards the start of the game the entire thing is presented in a first person view -- there are no cutscenes, so most of the story beats are awkwardly presented through exposition by either forcing you to sit down (resulting in something very much akin to how character interactions work in Skyrim), or by having the character that you're talking too awkwardly turn to face you as you move around. As a result the dramatic moments lack any of the impact that comes from careful pacing and direction, and as there's *soooooo* much dialogue I started skipping through it as fast as I could read the subtitles -- I could watch that scene where Geralt meets the Bloody Baron over and over again, but sitting and awkwardly staring at another character for any longer than 30 seconds starts to get tiresome after the 10th conversation, and as some of these actually drag on for several minutes I came close to switching it to "skip conversation" instead of "skip to next line".

Now on to gameplay. It's dull, dull dull dull, dull, and dull. (Also a bit dull.) In part that's because it's yet another game with a gameplay loop of "go to the place, kill the bad guys" which is getting a bit stale now, but even all the bits that *aren't* that just create new ways of being dull. For example there's a mechanic that's kind of like the souped up Detective Vision from whichever Arkham game it was that added the "investigating an area in time as well as space" thing, but it's overcomplicated and takes *forever* as you're forced to scrub backwards and forwards repeatedly, listen to long protracted bits of dialog in the reconstruction followed by interminable dialog between your character and some NPCs. Even the tutorial that introduced the mechanic was too long, and that was brief in comparison to the times you'll be doing it in-game. (On the other hand there's a hacking minigame that wasn't really explained at all, and I'm just "solving" them by trial and error.)

Combat is... fine, I guess. Not sure how it feels on console, but using a controller on PC is unpleasant experience; when you're looking down your weapon's sight there's a sort of "acceleration" to aiming that I could never get the hang of -- adjusting some of the sensitivity sliders helped a bit, but in the end I had to go keyboard and mouse. Fine at a desk, less useful if I'm sitting on the sofa playing on the TV.

There's also stealth and a "hack the devices" business so you can avoid a lot of combat, but it somehow manages to be overly simplistic as well as needlessly complicated. There's not a lot of hacking options available but pulling them off is fiddly, and attempting to make it easier by stacking your skill points into the appropriate area of the skill tree is a bad idea as some combat is unavoidable, and it's usually against a "boss" that you'll struggle with if you've not invested in your combat skills.

Now bugs. Lots of bugs. Some are minor -- random NPCs with weird pathing or that just spawn a few feet in front of you is distracting enough, but I've had to replay several missions multiple times because of glitches; my character has T-posed and teleported hundreds of meters outside the mission area with no way of getting back in, progression-essential NPCs have got stuck on world geometry, objectives have just failed to update, and I've had more than one crash. (And *every* time I close the game it crashes.)

I've stopped playing for the day, and I'll be honest: I don't know if I'm going to bother playing any more. It's got all the bugs and awkward "cinematics" of Skyrim, the hacking and stealth feels like a poor knockoff of Watchdogs, it burns my retinas with the gold lamé and dayglo aesthetic, it's buggy and needs a lot of polish, and most importantly it's just not fun to play.

This gem is beyond any expectation. The immersion is insane. Same goes for the OST and the story. The graphic is setting a new standard on PC gaming. I have lot of words for this masterpiece to write in here but no time for it. Gotta play more. The greatest game since TW3 just got released.

The best metaphor for Cyberpunk 2077 is Johnny Silverhand himself. A messiah, a mix of Kurt Cobain and Che Guevara, a talented singer who loves to shape his own legend and has a charming personality but loses the struggle with his own demons. The same goes for the game. It tells a great story and forced me to ask myself difficult questions, but many of its gameplay mechanics do not evolve and its technical state upon release was abysmal. Cyberpunk’s true hero is not a person, but Night City – a vibrant, living creature of great diversity. The beauty of the metropolis is striking. [01/2021, p.22]

Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the most disturbing and mind-blowing RPGs in history, where every decision has a deep impact on our trail. CD Projekt RED tosses us to the center of a city filled with disgusting delights where every character deserves our attention in an immersive experience and overall, very rewarding. From the sarcastic and shadowy tone imposed by the countless scenes in the game, to the flexibility we have on the choices to face every situation that is presented, Night City is truly memorable. It’s a shame that the countless bugs spoil or diminish the impact of some resounding moments, but we are without a question, in the presence of one of the best games in 2020.

Measured against the extreme expectations, Cyberpunk 2077 can't fulfill any of them. But all in all, despite the countless small weaknesses and inconsistences, with interesting characters, great story and dialogues or the freedom concerning gameplay, CD Projekt delivers a unique and great RPG that every fan of the genre needs to play.
